Where to Stay and What to Do in Nine Rome Neighborhoods | Eater

"A hotel whose rooftop garden and terrace views—especially of St. Peter’s Basilica—are the main attractions; the interior mixes classic, somewhat dated tapestries with some modern suites, while the location between the Vatican Museums and Castel Sant’Angelo is prime." - Natalie Kennedy

Google
My wife and I chose this hotel for its amazing location, literally a five-minute walk from the Vatican. However, what really impressed us most, was the exceptional service. We cannot thank enough the highly professional gentleman who was on duty when we arrived on the 10th of December at 2:45 pm. Unfortunately, we didn’t catch his name, but he was incredibly kind, offering us a welcome drink and setting the tone for a truly memorable stay. We also visited the bar on the terrace, where the waiters were extremely kind and always happy to help, even offering to take photos for us, really great level of service. We arrived around 4:30pm when the sunset was setting and the views were spectacular. Breakfast was served at the restaurant, absolutely delicious, we had a table with an impressive view of St. Peter’s Basilica Our room was exceptional, featuring a balcony with breathtaking views of the Vatican and Castel Sant’Angelo. Honestly, we had an incredible experience from start to finish. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone, especially if it’s your first time in Rome. You are close to everything and there are many shoots and restaurants around. The location is simply perfect, but what makes it even better is the outstanding service and warm hospitality. The rooms were exceptionally clean and the bed really comfortable A huge congratulations to the entire Atlante Star team, thank you for looking after us! from the Front Desk to Housekeeping, Restaurant staff, and Terrace staff. You all made our stay one we will remember for a lifetime. Thank you so much! We highly recommend to stay here!

Google
Hotel was very nice but the rooms are a bit dated. Clean and comfortable beds. Breakfast very good and all staff were very helpful. The roof terrace was best. The views were just fantastic 360 degrees just fabulous. The hotel will organise a shuttle bus back to airport at whatever time suits for a set fee. Great sevice.,Great staff, Great breakfast,, Great views, clean and comfortable. Great location.

Google
The rooftop views were fantastic. I loved the intricate layout of the hotel and the older feel to it. The staff was wonderful, helpful and capable. I loved that our room had an open air balcony. Our toilet seat needed a bit of tightening and my wife thought the smell of the room freshener was too much. We're not used to the hustle and bustle of an urban setting at night. My wife didn't like the noise.

Well located, smartly operated boutique hotel. Wonderful breakfast buffet. Dinner service was high-class & attentive with excellent food. Views of St. Peter's Basilica from the restaurant (6th floor) and roof terrace are spectacular!

Google
We had a wonderful time when we stayed at Atlante Star. The best part was the rooftop view overlooking St. Peter's Basilica. The hotel was close to everything; close to metro, less than 10 minutes walk, close to a convenience store and especially gelato place. The room was fair.

Rooms were well appointed and staff was superb. they were friendly and helpful at all times. We would definitely choose to stay with you again. Our travel agent, Jean Gagnon, of Plaza Travel in Latham, NY recommended your hotel, and we are most grateful to her also.

Google
Very accommodating with our early check in. They called us a taxi whenever we needed one. Super convenient location very close to the Vatican. Rooftop terrace was amazing and such a great view of the entire city. They also had an early morning shuttle to the airport on the day we left. Would highly recommend and hope to return soon.

Yelp
From 5 to 1 -- valet damage + denial This should have been a 5-star review: great room, service, food, and location. Unfortunately, a valet incident -- and management's response -- makes it 1 star. I handed over the car with the handbrake engaged; a car cannot be moved without releasing it. The car was later parked on the public street and returned with the handbrake tab broken (it would sit in odd positions and no longer lock properly). Management told me their staff "did not touch" the handbrake -- a claim that isn't credible, especially since they only asked the valet team over a month later. The car could not have been moved in the first place without releasing the brake, and parking it on the street required operating it again. Italian regulations (Art. 353(2)) also require parked vehicles to have the parking brake engaged (and, as a rule, the lowest gear). If the brake wasn't used when they parked it on the street, that violates Art. 353(2). When a hotel handles guests' cars, safety and accountability are non-negotiable. A real shame, because everything else was excellent. Until the hotel accepts responsibility and fixes its valet procedures, I can't recommend it.

Yelp
Our travel group stayed here for c. 5 days while visiting various areas of Rome. Here, very close to St. Peter's Basilica, was a good central location. The staff is very accommodating and helpful. The restaurant at the top offers an adequate breakfast, and other meals on the higher floor, a beautiful panoramic view of the city. Service in the evenings, however, can be "hit and miss". Rooms are clean, but a bit dated. They are all very different shapes and sizes (even for the same price), so please check out your room to assure you have something that you were expecting.

Yelp
This place is nowhere near 4 stars. ZERO STARS! The most disgusting hotel we've stayed at...and even worse, then refuse to refund us even though we didn't spend a single night in their mold infested room. Their bathroom was covered in black mold in their ceiling, and they said they couldn't offer us another room nor a solution. So we immediately left and were left scrambling for a hotel late at night in a foreign country. The front desk person did not care about us at all. And now they refuse to issue us a full refund despite not spending any nights there, and despite providing us with a disgusting black mold room. DO NOT STAY HERE!!

Yelp
The Atlante Star sits close to the Vatican and is on the outskirts of Rome center. The hotel staff was friendly and greeted us when we arrived, we were concerned our room wouldn't be ready because of our early arrival time into Rome but to our surprise the room was ready and it was no prob to check in. We got a suite and my bad for not getting a pic of the second room but it was spacious and plenty of room for 4 people. The room was a bit dated but it was clean and comfy and perfect for the 2 nights we stayed in Rome. The roof top bar had an amazing view of the Vatican and it made for a great sunrise and sunset experience. We were able to walk from the hotel to the Trevi fountain and Spanish steps no problem. From there we hoped on the red bus and made our way around. We would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
Note is I did not stay at the hotel but thoroughly enjoyed their rooftop garden which I'll review here... Easily one of the top choices for a rooftop experience while in Rome... this place is classy and comfortable with just the right amount of swag. They have two levels with the top offering uninstructed 360 degree views of the city along with a DJ playing some groovy house music into the late-night hours. It's tough to beat for a sunset aperitivo as you watch the sunset behind the Vatican.

Yelp
Had drinks at the wonderful rooftop bar. The drinks are a bit on the expensive side but the view is priceless.

Yelp
I have read positive reviews and decided to visit this place. I ordered fish and chips and soda which costed around 20 Euro. The view at the roof is amazing, especially during the sun set. They even built a special site for taking photos. Great place, polite waitress and music is also cool.

Yelp
I booked the Atlante Garden Hotel on Venere . I paid in advance for a lower rate. Hotel is lovely enough, two blocks to the Vatican. We arrived after an all night flight. The hotel has a free airport pick up!!! Bonus! They were prompt on arrival! Nice driver! Hotel room acknowledged upon arrival! I thought everything was going great! Another bonus is free breakfast ! Views are amazing! Good food, really nice breakfast! After taking a night tour, the tour dropped us at the confirmed Venere hotel, which was Atlante Garden Hotel. Three of us looked stupid saying this is not were our stuff is. We walked around. Luckily, I had taken a card with the hotel properties list. They realiZed the hotel switched us. To the sister site which iss the Atlante garden star hotel without explaining the switch. I said something upon return. Hotel brushed off my complaint. Not happy about the fast switch to sleepy travelers without notifying they down graded to lesser hiotel. That was shady! Maid service great!

Rose B.

Yelp
This hotel is very disorganized. They put me in a room that was disgusting. I will post pics. I paid for one night, breakfast and transfer to the airport were included. When I checked out they told me I had to pay for the airport transfer and on top of that they charged me 12 euros for breakfast. I emailed them and told them they need to reimburse me for the 12 euros and I never heard back from there. It's not the money, it's the lack of professionalism. When the maids clean the rooms, they leave dirty towels/bedsheets in the hallway. You have to walk by heaps of dirty laundry as you make your way to your room. Really gross. Another friend of mine paid for a superior room $250 a night, they tried to stick her in a small room with double beds. She complained, so they put her in the room she actually paid for. Hotel is close to the Vatican and has a great rooftop terrace. Overall, disappointed and would never stay here again.

Yelp
Do not stay here. We were sent here because we were bumped out of the Atlante Garden where we had a reservation. The first room here was like a coffin decorated with wide very dark stripes. It made both of us dizzy. They gave us a second room that smelled like there had been a sewage leak and they papered over it. The worst was the toilet was behind the sink counter and the only way to use it was to sit sideways. I'm not fat so that wasn't the problem. I ordered a 4 star from booking.com and ended up here.

Yelp
Location, location, location. I did not stay at Hotel Atlante star, but I did go here a couple times with some friends to enjoy the beautiful rooftop garden that over looks the city and Vatican. I had an absolutely amazing experience. We ordered some wine and appetizers were brought out, on the house. One night I went it was on the colder side and the waitress came out and offered us blankets. If you are looking for a nice place to enjoy some wine with friends or to have a romantic night out this is the place to go!

Yelp
If you would like a mediocre experience at a "4 start" hotel, this is the place for you! I stayed here twice, as part of a group tour package. I'll first describe unique experiences from each time, and then give items in common from both stays. The first time, my wife and I were given a suite with 2 rooms. Each room was super cramped. We were not told that we were getting this room. When I went downstairs to ask them about it, they claimed it was an "upgrade", and it was said with a very "screw you" type of tone. The second time, we got a regular room. However, in the bathroom, the toilet was situated so that you actually couldn't sit straight on it, and had to go side saddle (probably TMI, but still). It's not like there was limited room in front of it, but that there wasn't even room for someone's knees to go. Ok, so common issues with both times. The toilets there don't flush properly. It sometimes takes multiple attempts for anything to happen. Also, the showers are super narrow and it takes some work in order to not spray water around the bathroom. The main good thing about this place is the location. From the hotel, it's a fairly short walk over to Vatican City, and about 45 minutes for the other big attractions in Rome.

Yelp
This hotel was a big disappointment. For $250 a night, we stayed 3 nights. Yes, they picked us up at the airport for free. Yes, it is close to the Vatican (10 min walking distance). Yes, the buffet breakfast was quite good and with lots of choices. But, the room was small, the bed on the floor, the staff did not go out of their way to make you feel at home, the morning breakfast staff did not speak to you at all, the elevator holds two people with one suitcase each, and after I lost my glasses there, no one would respond to my inquiries by phone or by email. So two stars for location and breakfast. Won't stay there again.
