This place is awful, and it’s also a scam. They don’t put the prices on the menu display and the prices are truly outrageous. So you go to pay after ordering and you get blindsided by a huge total (you also don’t get to see the prices while you’re ordering either since it happens in two places, as with most bagel places). I’ve seen customers lose their tempers at the register, and for good reason. The employees know how crazy the prices are, but it’s not up to them obviously.
For example, a bacon, egg, and cheese is $11.30. That’s INSANE. If you told someone upfront that’s what that would cost, they’d probably just leave.
Also, out of the last five times I’ve gone there, they’ve gotten my order wrong three times (unwanted ketchup and/or wrong cheese).
I only go sometimes because it’s very, very close to my apartment and when they DO get my order right, it’s an excellent BEC — the bacon is crispy and I get fried eggs and they don’t overcook them. And they have fresh OJ (also exorbitantly priced). And there’s usually no wait because no one in the neighborhood goes there (duh). But I have to be prepared to pay over $20 for a breakfast sandwich and OJ, and risk getting the wrong order and needing to wait for it to get remade. Sometimes I decide that all of that is worth it, but it really isn’t.
By the way, if you’re looking for a bagel, look elsewhere. The bagels are an embarrassment to the NYC bagel scene. There are three better options nearby. Also don’t get the paninis — somehow they manage to be completely flavorless while costing like $18.
I feel guilty for supporting this terrible business every time I go, and I should really stop. Please don’t be like me. Just go somewhere else.
