On the Grid : Atlantic Works

"The center of the East Boston artist community, the Atlantic Works building houses artist studios, and on the top floor, the Atlantic Works gallery. The gallery is artist run and maintained with new exhibitions every month showcasing new work. Though opening receptions vary by store, the third Thursday of every month is a reception, often featuring artist talks from the displaying artists. Atlantic Works gallery also hosts performances, poetry readings, and other visiting artist groups. The building hosts the annual East Boston open studios and is home to the globally active Biennial Project. The gallery also has satellite sites in South Boston and the Future Lab facility asking the McClellan Highways. Individual studios in the building sometimes host their own events like life drawing sessions." - Nick DiStefano

This is such a great idea and it also looks great buy the photos alone You can tell it's amazing. But the best part is you could make it better if you want. Great idea.

Waiting outside in 5 degree weather hoping to do some gallery hoping... doors are locked. No one answering door or phones. Not in the area often. Very disappointing. Will not be back here

Yelp
One of the best independent artist galleries / workspaces in the entire city. Cool, fun, unpretentious and housed in a 4 story labyrinth of a brick building. Artists are all friendly and engaging and will usually stop whatever they are working on to talk in an approachable fashion. Prices are very reasonable, although many of the pieces are quite large and would be difficult to own in the spaces most of us have in the city. There is an onsite framer named Chris who will custom frame any of the inexpensive prints you want. Plenty of off street parking too, a rarity for Boston. Kid and pet friendly.
