"Go up the splendid granite staircase, dripping with flowers and plants, to the entrance of this establishment with atmosphere by the bucketload. The pared-down, alpine interior sports a friendly, casual vibe. Should you be given the choice, ask for a table in the conservatory, which commands a knock-out view of the Arve River and the peaks of Chamonix in the distance! Recipes as Gallic as La Marseillaise, regional specialities and game in season take pride of place on the menu. Splendid wine list." - Michelin Inspector

We came here for dinner at short notice and we were not disappointed. The restaurant had a lovely view out the back of it as it is on the side of the river (try and get one of these tables if you can!). The food was delicious and served very promptly. Most of all, we give high compliments to our waiter who was very helpful and attentive. Would definitely recommend.

Atmosphere is perfect and right next to a flowing river. Service is impeccable and courteous staff members. Food is nice, not overly impressed probably due to set menu we chose during a tour group.

They were able to fit us in at the last minute. Service was great. Pate was excellent. Requests for slightly off the menu items were easily handled.

We visited Atmosphère for lunch and were pleased with it. We got to know of this restaurant both on the Michelin guide and from Rick Steves' France guidebook. Rarely do you find any establishment with recommendations from both. We got their lunch menu and were pleased with their starters and dessert. Unfortunately, we chose the wrong mains and ordered their Hot Stone Grill. It just wasn't what we had expected (we had to cook the meat ourselves on a Hot Stone Grill) and it's entirely our fault therefore I decided to still go with the five stars.

Excellent food, perfect atmosphere! The food here was best in Chamonix. The service was also excellent, everybody spoke good english. The food and the wine was also super. They had also half-bottles of wine that was nice. Perfect restaurant for a romantic date!

Very nice atmosphere, kind & friendly staff. I think my expectations on taste was a bit higher. Plates were very small. Gnocchi truffle was a bit salty (they changed immediately with sole, It was ok). Beef file was good.

Yelp
Make reservation in person the day before. The hostess is very professional and accommodating. She introduced herself, chit chatting with us and showed that we can make reservation online via scanning the barcode. Good first impression. Showed up on time and were met by this time a male host. Definitely a 100 time less fortunate and beautiful . Got seated right away in the reserved table in the veranda section by the river. The server offered to put away our coats instead of hanging over the chairs. He didn't introduce himself but give us time to read menu and offer to bring waters first. I ordered the Atmosphere Menu, but like to swap the menu Savoyard (less expensive) escargot Poêlée d'escargots de Magland, émulsion à l'ail et persil with the menu Atmosphere salmon ( more expensive) and he said it's possible The snail came out naked and surprised me since I expected the French escargots are always fully armed and you will need the special tool to enjoy that. Kidding aside, the Madland snails probably so mad that the chef has to overcook them but the garlic and parsley sauce even on the saltier side still doesn't bring the flavor out perfectly. My friend ordered the rack of lamb medium rare and it came out very good. The meat is super soft, texture is fine, sauce is complimented the meat flavor. The best thing worth mentioned is that the usual lamb gamey smell is kept to the minimal. Kudos to the chef for treating that well. My duck fillet also came out perfectly cooked to the pink. Wish the skin can be crispier. I'm not into the Orange sweet sauce, the carottes confites is fine and the quinoa is excellent (or in my world edible, since I never want to chew on that healthy stuff). Forgot to mention the recommended Syrah from North Rhône is very smooth and complimented the food. Dessert moment came. This icing on the cake. We both ordered from the Les Suggestion menu. This is not on the regular menu. My friend ordered the Crêpes Suzette and the texture is not up to the standard of culminating French cuisine let alone the every corner normal street fare. I ordered the flowing heart with chocolate fondant, vanilla custard and raspberry sorbet. It came out beautifully decorated, rich chocolate and sweet and flavor sorbet and the fully living organic fresh blueberries and raspberries. To the best or worst of my delight, I have an uninvited special guest crawling out the raspberry and enjoying the dessert with me. I almost fell out of my chair. Upon calling the server and pointing him to the dish, he just kept talking about the berry until the guest wiggling on the plate. What came next are a lot of apology from the server and the host and a new dessert came out to replace. At least I know they are using living ingredients and probably explain the issue with some reviewers that had to miss a next skiing day or hugging the toilet all night that the manager keep responding with unsupported facts or playing the pointing game. To be fare, I still recommend this place and the effort of the managing team and chef to bring variety to fine dining. Location is perfect, ambient is ok, service is attentive food poisoning is your luck. At least you know you are eating real organic living things.

Yelp
I was looking forward to this restaurant based on reviews, but I found the food to be fairly average. Portions were huge for French standards, which I think made everything taste too salty. At one point they played YMCA for someone's birthday. While I am all for festivity, the song choice kind of tainted the otherwise elegant vibe of the restaurant. It felt like I was in a French Applebee's. However, the wait staff was friendly. And veranda seating by the river was nice too. I don't know, maybe I came on an off day, or just had different expectations!

Yelp
May need a reservation for dinner. Their menu was very interesting. They offer 2 different fixed menus. I ordered the regular menu. Snails with parsley emulsion, duck breast with cherry sauce and vegetables, rum baba with mango and coconut. Pretty good but i expect more from michelin rated restaurant.

Yelp
Excellent good, great service, highly recommend. Best meal during our 2 weeks in Eastern France.

Yelp
About as good as you can get in Chamonix (still overpriced, but decent quality food and definitely get the veranda seating).

Chris G.

Yelp
Fantastic meal, my wife and I both enjoyed immensely. The wait staff was very inviting and attentive. River view was impressive. Food was outstanding, best meal I have had in a long while. Michelin star appears well deserved. Would definitely visit again.

Yelp
Took our last minute reservation. Hosts and waiter was very friendly. Spoke English well. They just started a new menu. I ordered the Spelt Risotto as a warm starter. This was followed by Tourneau Rossellini. Ended the meal with a Walnut Creme Brûlée. Not a bad way to cap off the night after a long bicycle ride from La Clusaz to Chamonix.

Meg O.

Yelp
The epitome of the French dining experience. Everything was artfully crafted, from the delicious cold tomato soup to the potatoes au gratin to the baba rum dessert. The fish was local from Lake Geneva, excellent and crispy. Expect this meal to take several hours- time well spent!

Yelp
The entrance is a bit small, so you could walk past it without even knowing, but the restaurant itself is spacious and very nice on the inside. The place was crowded the day I went, but it didn't feel uncomfortable or crowdy. I went with my family so there were lots of dishes and the food was great. For starters we had a tuna tartar, a winter salad, smoked salmoned trout and a foie gras. The tuna tartar comes raw and in cubes with vegetables and an acid sauce. The winter salad had different kinds of lettuces with avocado, feta cheese, grapefruit and a beet remoulade. The smoked salmoned trout and the foie gras are clearly more simple, but still very good. The smoked trout comes raw with a few vegetables on the side and small pieces of shrimp with cream and the foie gras is just a big piece of duck livers foie gras with bread on the side. Afterwards we all ordered joue de bœuf or steak tartar and both were really good. The joue de bœuf is the beefs cheek and comes with a wine-based sauce that gives it a really nice flavor. The beef tartar is a french classic so it's a bit self explanatory how good it was. The desert were profiteroles and were pretty good too. I recommend this restaurant to everyone in chamonix and I hope to go back soon. The price is a bit high though

Yelp
Atmosphere was amazing for lunch. The view beside the river and the friendly waitress/server set the lovely tone. My guinea fowl was to die for, served with a delicious cabbage bacon medley. My spouse had an amazing prawn mushroom ravioli served with a shell sauce. The pouched pear was in a terrific caramel sauce. What a great first meal of our vacation.

Yelp
Bravo...perfect meal, atmosphere and service....dont be fooled by the front entry, its down the stairs and in through a narrow entry, but inside its cozy with some river views as well. My servers were tip top top notch...casual yet elegant place, perfect service really, right down to the several changes of silverware, crumbing of my table and service with a smile...the food was fantastic...I started with a jerusalem artichoke cream soup, filet of sea bream (also called John Dory) served over mashed potato with carrots and snow peas, dessert was creme brulee and even my espresso was served with a little diving bomb of chocolate. They have prix fix menus and tons of other options for all palates. I highly recommend this place when in Chamonix!!

Yelp
Incredible service. Treat you like a vip every time I have been in here. Friendly and warm service. Worth the price as everything is superb. I recommend booking a table in advance. Several different options allows for variety. Great location in center of town.

Yelp
My family had cheese fondue, salad with apricots and blue cheese, and steak with pepper sauce. This place blew my mind. The cheese fondue was by far my favorite. The cheese had a complex deep flavor that really stood out. It was heavenly. I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
This was hands down the best dining experience on our Verbier/Chamonix ski trip. The staff was so friendly, and the service and presentation were amazing! Our waiter was great helping with sorting through an extensive wine menu, and recommended a great wine from burgundy which is our favorite. The food was fantastic - smoked salmon, tornadoes du boef, and profiteroles - can't not wait to go back!!!

Yelp
Everyday is a fair with the fresh clean air of the atmospheric Atmosphère. Don't be deceived by the basement entrance from the Place Balmat; the restaurant actually has a charming dining room by the riverside. Food is very good, well deserving of a Bib Gourmand since 2003. Order à la carte to experience the chef's talent. Nothing creative, just extremely well executed classic dishes. We highly enjoyed the foie gras poêlé, aubergine tart (delicious), lobster ravioli, sea bass, steak tartare, and the côte de bœuf with gratin savoyard. Friendly and proactive staff.

Yelp
Great ambiance and good food. We had the Carpaccio of tomatos with mozzarella for an appetizer, Sea Bream and the Lore for entrees & red fruits with sorbet and raspberry sauce & a 30 year port for dessert. Very pleased with the overall experience.

Yelp
We spent our Valentine's Day at Atmosphere. It has a great ambience and we were seated by the window next to a little creek. The food was great with a very reasonable price; after all, after a trip to Switzerland, you find the amazing food that only costs you half of the $.

Igor S.

Yelp
This place is excellent. Food, service and ambiance all were great. Great wine list also. Try to get a table w a view of the river. If you are on vacation in Chamonix it is a must visit type of a place.

Yelp
We were at L'Atmosphere twice in 2012 and the food was truly outstanding. So good you would want to come back to Chamonix just for another dinner there. Now coming back in August 2014 we were somewhat disappointed. Food was still good, but had lost its special touch. Nothing spectacular and absolutely missing the "wow" if had two years back. We both had the menu. My girlfriend had a Tartiflette which was somewhat overcooked. I had an entrecote - nothing wrong with it but only average. Service was good but not super attentive. Somebody wrote in another post (different website) that the chef de cuisine left and opened his own place. That might explain it. And have to find out which place this is!

Yelp
We went to Atmosphere at the recommendation of my husband's uncle who is a chef in Lyon. The food was fabulous and quite a find in a ski town. We absolutely loved the lamb, wine recommendations and dessert. It's a bit off the main drag which reduces the tourists.

Brian M.

Yelp
We've been to Atmosphere a few times. Always delicious, great ambiance. Ask to sit on the terrace overlooking the river.

Tracey W.

Yelp
An excellent choice for those seeking the best in cuisine in a beautiful setting seated next to the torrent of the River as though you are moving on a journey to the lake. i had the veal which was cooked to perfection, and although I didn't eat dessert i watched others indulge themselves in some delicious options. while its not cheap it is a place for celebrations or romantic meals for two, but perhaps not for the solo diner.

Marina K.

Yelp
Amazing place and the location is absolutely gorgeous! I wouldn't get the fondue but overall The food is outstanding! We were fairly large group with kids too, but not one order was messed up and we were conveniently seated. The staff was very cheerful and attentive. The recommendations were perfect, along with wine pairing and let's not forget the desert. Great place to have dinner and relax after a long day of skiing.

Yelp
This is a classic Chamonix staple. Beautiful view over the river and a quiet romantic setting. The raw scallops with black truffle is a world class (and fabulous!) appetizer. I strongly recommend it when available. Dominic and Sou are affable host and hostess and are welcoming to all. Dom is a world class sommelier; but, unlike so many of his brethren, he is unpretentious and very helpful, while always suggesting based on quality and your preference, not on price! I remember many years ago when he was the sommelier at Two star Albert 1er, here in Chamonix, I told him we were celebrating a special occasion and would he choose the wines for us. When I saw the prices of what he recommended, I told him he needn't be overly concerned for the price. His reply was, " do you want something expensive or something very good?" He has always continued in that tradition and it is with great pleasure I always allow him to choose for us. I know it will be something very interesting and not break the bank! This is a wonderful Chamoniard experiece. Happily recommend this restaurant!

Yelp
We found this wonderful place searching for another and it was a blessing in disguise. We had the most wonderful waitress from Brittany treat us like gold! A shared entree of oysters, very fresh then two mains of lamb and veal were just delicious. In was so good we were back the next night for the degustation menu which was a great way to sample other scrumptious items. Definitely visit atmosphere when your in Chamonix and book in advance...

Yelp
Great food and nice atmosphere. Not the best in town, but close to it and worth a visit.
