Oh Atomic, I wanted so much to add you to my list of favorite cafés. Unfortunately, you didn't make the cut. I wanted to try out for quite a bit of time, because well, the name was cool! But the products while good, aren't quite as awesome as the name.
I ordered a macchiato, which is a shot of espresso with a little bit of foam (and not a very large sweet drink) and a Joppa Flat breakfast sandwich.
The macchiato was good, it had a good bitterness and a little acidity. It was a little too acidic for my taste, but not by much. I do wish however that these came in sizes larger than one shot of espresso.
The breakfast sandwich, however, was pretty disappointing. It was a flatbread in which was egg cheese bacon and tomato. Unfortunately, despite the tomato's presence, it was still very dry and underseasoned. I went looking for a pepper shaker, and I found one for the entire café. The ingredients were balanced, but because of the dryness, the flavors just didn't work together very well. I could taste them individually, but they didn't come together.
Three small changes would make this sandwich much more awesome! First the very small amount of ketchup on the inside of the flatbread. Second, a very slightly runny egg. Third, having to cheese be melty and gooey.
I also ordered a nitro cold brew coffee, and a glazed donut. The nitro cold brew coffee, unfortunately, did not live up to expectations. I found while it had that pleasant bitterness, it had an extremely high level of acidity that took away from the otherwise pleasant taste. I do however give them points for not putting any ice in there, it is nice to pay for 12 ounces of coffee and get 12 ounces of coffee, instead of having half weight taken up with water ice.
The most pleasant thing I have had here though is the donut! It was very nice the glaze gave it just the right amount of sugary crisp, not nearly as much as Krispy Kreme, but still very pleasant. In fact, if you have to compare these to Krispy Kreme I like these ones better! In addition to the sugar, The dough itself was quite pleasant, it was light, airy, not buttery or oily, and not sweet (glaze added all the sweetness the donut needed).
