Atomic Garden

This place always reminds me of the charming shops I visited in Japan. Everything here feels natural, thoughtful, and beautifully handcrafted. It’s my go-to spot for finding unique gifts. I especially love their signature scented candles — the store itself has such a wonderful fragrance, and they’ve perfectly captured it in candle form. I use them all the time at home!

My favorite local shop when I’m searching for gifts or something special to treat myself. I always know what I find inside will be beautiful and thoughtfully curated. Everyone who works here is also super kind and wonderful to chat with, too!

Hands down — this is one of the most thoughtfully curated and wonderfully inviting boutiques I’ve had the pleasure of stumbling upon. I’m very much looking forward to a return trip(s) in the near future.

Atomic Garden is a cute little gift shop with beautiful knitted items and children's toys. They carry bedding, bath, and clothing items and give off a low-waste plastic-free organic air. That being said, I found the store to be a bit overflowing (almost hodgepodge) and at the end of the day think I prefer fair trade stores laid out a bit more cleanly like Makers Market or Harmony House.

I never need to directly go here myself, but my husband loves it so I go with him sometimes. He likes to get the rugs there. This time we were looking for some rugs, but we ended up with socks, knives, and incense instead. Spacious boutique shop with unique items from household to kids to beauty to kitchen products. Dog friendly. The cashiers greet you, but usually keep to themselves until you're ready to check out. Great local spot to go to support your local businesses whether you're buying gifts or things for yourself. Easy walk from Rockridge BART or there is paid street parking, and free residential parking. Or bike or bus! Luckily for me, I can walk down here.

Absolutely the most awesome shop! Everything in it and the girls that work there are the best...Heather, Suly, and Ana. The owner is lovely too.

This store is just lovely. I've bought some things here that I just love. Their staff prevents me from coming in more often. Really bad attitudes! Hoping for staff turnover or better staff training.

LOVE this shop..so thoughtfully curated, makes you want to live inside. Gorgeous houseware and jewelry. I bought an amazing opal ring here and awesome kitchen towels. There are also amazing baskets that I can't justify buying, but I think about them. Sweet apothecary and nice staff

This is the place where I buy all my bougie kitchen brushes and eco-friendly cloths. I love the utility items and the ceramics they offer. Coming here is a pick me up because everything is pretty and there is a wide array to browse. The apothecary items are also nicely selected.

Atomic Garden is a neat little gift shop and fashion boutique on College that is nicely organized, well appointed, and fun to look around even when most of the merchandise isn't either my style or consistent with my gender preferences. One notable exception are some cool recycled wood frames and artsy wall pieces. Another highlight of coming here is the big friendly Yellow Lab that really makes you feel welcome.

This is an adorable shop with loads of cute things - strong focus on repurposed, reworked, recycled - but with all the local labor, apparently that drives up the prices and many of their items are quite out of my budget. Last November I found a wonderful little grey cotton blouse on the clearance rack and have decided to target the clearance rack only every time I walk by. I wish that this store had more options of cute things, locally/sustainably made that were less expensive!

I LOVE this store. Have been going for years. Today, however, I was very put-off by the sales person's resistance to wrap the gift I purchased. The store had only one other customer, who was shopping across the room, so they weren't slammed with holiday shoppers. When I asked she said, "giftwrap?" As though she didn't know what I was talking about. I had to ask three times, and finally she said she would but with her lips and nose turned down at me. I wanted to leave, but the gift I purchased was very nice and I was willing to put up with it. Its insulting to be treated like crap when doing business at this local store. I've been very loyal to them, but now I will think twice. The owner should really consider training their sales people to treat others with respect and kindness.

I just adore this shop!! I can find any gift for any occasion. The two women who own it are absolutely amazing. My favorite part is their staff are always happy and courteous. Being a small business owner myself, I know how important this is. The owners show a variety of phenomenal artists at their shop. From cards to clothing. If you have never visited the shop, you have to just for that absolutely addictive smell. No really, you will totally understand once you visit. Stop in for a real piece of Oakland while supporting fantastic artists.

Cute, overpriced store with poor customer service. I purchased several items 2 weeks ago without trying them on. To my surprise, when I tried to exchange an unworn shirt for a different size, I was rudely insulted and denied. Store clerk accused me of deodorant stains on the shirt even after I informed her I don't wear deodorant. In addition, she smelled the shirt in front of me and stated that it stinks, probably like my home. Moral of the story: try your items on in store, inspect it before purchase, and expect that you can't return it if you bring it back to your smelly home.

Atomic Garden is an oasis of calm, particularly in these frazzling times. While their color palette is a bit neutral for my taste, the store radiates a sense of timeless, peaceful, and gracious energy. I also very much approve of their careful covid guidelines and practices. I bought my very favorite small scaled broom that feels more like an art object than a mere tool - lovely to use and look at - in addition to a very cool Japanese dustpan with a red handle. Two special things I could not find anywhere else. Shopping here is an eclectic, surprising adventure. My experience in the store is enhanced by the calm, efficient, friendly sales people who are consistently informative, helpful, and yet respectful of covid distances.

Lovely (expensive) items but some of the worst customer service I've experienced. I popped in to buy some baby gifts for my nephew and the woman working there just could not be bothered to be helpful. She told me wrong information about sizes and then seemed completely put out when I asked about a box for the items I had selected. She muttered something about maybe being able to find a recycled box but by then I was like NO WAY am I dropping close to $200 in this store to be treated like crap so I left the items on the counter and walked out. I felt like if I had gone through with the purchase I'd be saying it's okay to treat people like crap. It was like the worst parody skit of a bougie store clerk treating the customers like garbage. Nope. So I dropped $60 at LL bean, $100 at Amazon and $200 at Pottery Barn Kids for Baby gifts that I would have HAPPILY spent at Atomic Garden. Until some friendly, less attitude filled people work there, no thanks.

Call me crazy, but I really don't think it's that expensive -- and I'm speaking as an underemployed freelance writer who drives a beat-up, 20-year-old Volvo and lives on a pretty darn tight budget. Granted, some of the clothes here are out of my price range (and, truth be told, they're out of my size range, so I don't really focus on that part of the store). But I think that a lot of the housewares are relatively affordable. I stopped in this weekend, for instance, and there were gorgeous, organic cotton queen-sized blankets for $56, beautiful raw linen tea towels for under $20, pretty tote bags for under $40, etc. I often come here for birthday and housewarming gifts for friends and relatives, and can usually find something really lovely for less than $25. Unless you're shopping at Wal-Mart, IKEA, or Cost Plus, these prices seem very much in line with what you'll pay for similar items elsewhere. Plus, even though I watch my spending very carefully, I am willing to pay a little bit more for beautiful things that are handmade by skilled artisans and that use natural materials. Of course, there are pricier offerings as well. But for the most part they strike me as being worth saving up for -- really lovely, finely crafted items that you'll hold onto for a long time. And at the end of the day, I'd rather have fewer things -- but things that I feel good about owning -- than a bunch of made-in-China junk.

Probably the best thing they carry is LuLu Organics Hair Powder- "For hair on days of unwash". For a white girl like me with thin hair that quickly gets oily at the roots, this stuff is great product, it's good for your follicles to get a rest now and then, ya know? It's the darling of beauty editors across the nation and I keep reading about it, so I was stoked to find a store that carried the sample size at $11 so I could try it before splurging on a $40 container! I also spied some cute glassware I could use to bring some class to my desk at work. Otherwise, I won't really be too into shopping their clothing racks, but I get what they are after, and I support it in concept and spirit, if not financially!

I love this store and I wander in quite often - regardless of whether or not I have any extra cash dollars to spend. The store always smells wonderful, the sales people are very friendly and pleasant, and they don't mind if you wander around touching and smelling things and leave 20 minutes later without buying anything. That said, when I have bought clothes or housewares here (they often have pretty good sales), I'm always really happy with the purchase and feel like my dollars have gone towards something of high quality that was made with care and that more than the usual amount of those dollars have gone directly to the person or people who created the thing itself. And they like my little dog and always give her pets.

Beautifully curated unique home, beauty, kids and gift items. I stopped in for one item and got special, unexpected Christmas gifts for several family members and friends too. Had an excellent customer service experience and can't wait to come back.

I always stop by Atomic Garden when I am in Oakland. It is a great place for gifts and items for your home. Their selection is varied and well priced. I wish they had a store in LA!

When I used to live in the 'hood, I'd hit this block & tell myself that I was crossing the street only to ogle the beautiful window display. Then I'd arrive at the storefront. A whiff of the intoxicating floral & earthy aroma emanating from this unique & visually stunning shop would beckon me in & would always be my undoing. Several of my favorite useful objects come from this delightful establishment & they happen to be items I continuously get compliments on. My only complaint (hence the minus of one star) is that I can't afford to buy more when I'm there & that there isn't one in Santa Fe, NM. In my experience, the staff are as delightful as the merchandise. When I grow up I want to own a boutique just like this one!

Beautifully curated store with a nice range of products that fulfill my essential needs (cosmetics, kitchen ware, clothes, etc). Some items are very affordable, while others are priced quite high. I'm sure that it's not cheap to run a store in Rockridge, so that is understandable. My fave store in this neighborhood.

Every time I stumble over to Rockridge for some shopping, I have to pop into this adorable, earthy-feels shop, regardless of how much cash is in my bank account. Yes, the prices are "high", but have you set foot in a store with the same quality items for any cheaper? Go back to Ross where you belong for all your home goods needs. I'm always greeted very friendly, and helped with anything I need, wether it be to see/try on jewelry or just questions about the products. This shop definitely has a classy, yet homey vibe with all the wooden kitchen items, ceramics, glass and amazing scents. Each time I stop by, I end up leaving with a new little gem. My kitchen is slowly starting to look like their display wrack. Now it's time to tackle the rest of my house! Can't wait for new fall items!

The prices at this store are insulting. Who pays $150 for a short, commonly available cotton scarf worth about $18? Some things on sale were 50% off, and still outrageously expensive. They have some beautiful leather handbags, not locally sourced, for $780. You can get that quality or better for half that price at Nordstrom. As I wandered around the shop, hoping to find something I wanted and could afford, each new price hit me like a sick joke. The clerks ignore you. This place sits among similar little Rockridge shops whose prices are on the high side. Atomic Garden makes the others look like the goodwill, price wise. The quality of the items is questionable, too.

I love how different this store is! I bought a beautiful necklace for my daughter as a Christmas gift this year, and I was happy that the necklace was made by a local artist. True the clothes are price, but you get what you pay for, and what you pay for is quality, and the fact that it isn't made in China. I'll be back for more goodies :)

This is the store that I have been waiting for on College. Elegant yet has a post- post- grunge style, ethereal objects of desire, yet it is eco-conscious, with a very friendly service. Clothes sitting on vintage ironing boards, and hanging from grandma's old wooden hangers. The feel of the place is spacious with lots of room to touch, feel and breathe in this old world of eclecticism and craftsmanship. of the genre as Evan B Harris paintings. Prices is not what you go to this store for. The prices will remind you to buy only what you really love and be inspired by.

I literally walked out of this store two minutes ago. Did I miss something? Is there a new bespoke culture around silent customer service? A shift from talking towards energy reading? After walking around, picking things up, paroozing if you will while being the ONLY OERSON IN THE STORE I was strategically walked around by one person hanging clothes with eyes averted. The other person at the register didn't acknowledge me until I stood and smiled right in front of her. The response: she lifted her right hand in silence. Shit you not. This could be an SNL skit guys. Swear to you this was their best foot forward. I came in here looking for a gift for my mom. Beautiful albeit pricey stuff. But these two drab personalities in here took the joy out of my wallet. I always say if you can't relax and be nice on your retail job take that stick out of your butt and do something else. Wow. This was not fun but definitely comical.

I went into the store today and totally got profiled. I asked to purchase something that was out and as it didn't have a price I was told I couldn't purchase it...maybe my timing was off? Despite that I returned to the shop after my walk to buy some incense and asked to try on a pretty pair of earrings I had seen earlier. I asked to try them on and they said they don't do that. They were $700 dollar earrings that they wouldn't let me even try on! FYI - the store owner was upstairs as the attendant asked questions for another customer earlier but none of my questions were escalated. But I guess I'm not their typical customer? Are there really people out there who buy $700 earrings without trying them on? Otherwise I love the store just didn't have a great experience this time around. Disappointed but hope this review helps anyone thinking about trying on earrings or planning on making a larger purchase.

Atomic Garden is perfect for finding unique gifts and decorations for the house but can be pricey. I stopped by last week and bought some candles, an essential oils spray and a necklace. Will need to stop by again to check out their clothing! Beautiful things but a little bit $$$.

A lovely collection of sustainable items and beautiful knick-knacks. The prices are HIGH, but that's what one pays when shopping for real quality. I especially love the knits that they carry, although I can't afford them. Great place for unique gifts and kitchen items. I bought some of their french linen kitchen towels and have never regretted it as they work like magic when drying dishes. It is clear that whoever owns/buys for this place truly appreciates the items they carry and making them work in harmony with one another within the space.

This store is a work of art besides having great stuff. Someone's review mentioned that it is like entering a Yoga Studio. So true! They have done an excellent job with their displays and the general lay out of the store...oh and the staff is nice and helpful as well! My favorite accent is the succulent garden that's in the coolest old fence wood planter box...this place is so great! Be forewarned however: This shop is not for those on any type of budget (unless it's a spendthrif one!) so do not complain if you see sweaters for almost $300. I bought a pair of "sustainable" Del Fortes jeans that I wear all the time and I rarely bring myself to spending over 100$ on jeans. But they fit like a glove! I was just in over the weekend and slurged on the perfect long sweatshirt /jacket. They also offer a great selection of unique DIY type stuff - plates, notebooks. Definitely worth poking your head in here on your weekend strolls down College.

My favorite store in the country for my zero waste lifestyle and home goods. Also has delightful oil concoctions. When I get to the Bay Area, I try to hit this store.

About a year ago I took my brother and his gf who were visiting to atomic garden to show them my favorite store in the area. When my bday came around they sent me a gift card to atomic garden and I was so excited to use it! I have gone 3 times to use it, and each time the staff has refused to even acknowledge my presence. This last time 2 associates were trying to determine if another customer stole a tester as they brushed by me. I was in the store for 20 mins at that point. I've worked in retail for 10 years and just don't understand how this happened 3 times! Unless your business model is to be rude and make people feel like they are undeserving of your goods. Anyway, if anyone is interested in purchasing a gift card from me let me know. I won't be using it.

Very cool stuff in the hearth of Rockridge , very selective items , when you walk in scents of oils and soaps relaxes your senses , staff is super nice. Great place for a special Holiday gift.

Thank goodness this shop continues to thrive and provide a place where I am guaranteed to find a gift for myself or someone else (although I rarely leave without something for myself even if I have gone in to buy for family or friends). It isn't easy to run an independent business, let alone one that adds interest and variety to the neighborhood it's in, but Atomic Garden does it year after year. I also like that they try to carry as much from local makers as they can. The owners have a great eye and seem very hands on,

There are a lot of nice things in this store, but the prices are insane. For example, they had some "recycled" cashmere scarves. These were basically pieces of black cashmere (from used sweaters or something) sewn together to make a scarf. I've made a few scarves like this myself, and even though I can barely sew, it only took me about 20 minutes to put one together. And the materials come from Goodwill or similar. So when I flipped over the price tag, I was stunned to see that they were asking $258 for one of these scarves. $258! Who buys this stuff?

Earthy and sweet, with a not-too-huge stock of lovelies and cozies and amusing and delightful objets and trinkets. Nothing you really need to have, but lots of stuff you might want--soft organic cotton items, handmade knits, pretty little baubles, PVC-free toys, and yummy bath and beauty products.

Nifty store but: Customer Service, people! Don't run in the back and stare at me as I check my pockets for a kleenex, then run back to the register and studiously ignore me! Ask if folks are looking for gifts, who for, etc...Also, turn on some lights and you'll get more foot traffic. There are some very good LED low-energy display lights now.

I actually think there are quite a few affordable organic cotton items in here. The clothes are outrageously priced, along the lines of any designer/boutiquey store like Viva Diva etc. I did happen upon some lovely lunch bags and grain/produce bags that were only like $12 each and made from fair trade organic cotton. They even had the adorable screen printed birdie logo on them. If you're into the handcrafted Etsy kind of style, you'll love this place.

I love this store. Everything is achingly beautiful and just screams to be touched and fondled. They have everything from stationery to home goods to clothing to baby items and it's all absolutely exquisite. And you can feel good shopping here because it's all recycled and/or sustainable and/or organic or something virtuous. AND everyone who works here is super nice and helpful. Did I already say how much I love this store?

I like browsing this store. I dig the aesthetic and I think it adds value to College Avenue. If my money grew on a tree, I might spend more here, but I did just get a cross-section of a tree cutting board (not so sustainable?) for less than $30. It made a great gift.

The store has a wonderful selection of organic and natural textiles and clothes. As previously mentioned they can be pricey (compared to big box stores), but Americans are too detached from the producers of the goods they consume. It is better for everyone when we take a moment to consider the true cost of the materials, labor, shipping and sales. Perhaps if we all cut out the excess, bought less, and spent our money when we needed to, or on products that shared the ideals we want to uphold, the world would be a better place. Anyway, the store is lovely and always has great gift ideas.

I just discovered this store. It is awesome. I am planning on doing all my holiday shopping here. And I can't go wrong. They have beautiful unique plates and mugs, super soft organic cotton t-shirts that are a great staple (plus they don't have any stupid ironic message emblazoned across the chest). Also I don't recall ever going to a store that had recycled shoes that were fucken gorgeous like the ones at Atomic Garden. It smells beautiful inside and it has service to match. Maybe that was the soya candles that I smelled that had everyone in the room in a good mood. Thanks AG for doing something that is eco sound, and functional. It is what I would like to see more of. Come on people, do your part, bring your own bag and do your shopping here. Fuck corporate shit and unsustaniable consumerism.

I LOVE this store. I just bought my sister the sample pack of the Nieves skin care line that they carry and I'm excited to give it to her because it's all organic, completely natural ingredients and that's what she's into. I love every single one of the perfumes they have just to the right of the register, which is unusual - usually there's at least one or two in a group of perfumes that I'm not going to like, but I could wear every single one of them. I've coveted their drinking glasses for a long time but still have not bought any. My problem is that I come here for gifts because I feel like it's too extravagant to shop here for myself, but I want pretty much everything in the store. I keep telling myself someday... I got one of their wooden teething toys for a friend's new baby and she said she liked it. I checked out their clearance rack but I can't even afford that. I could buy something in the front part of the store, with the housewares and body care stuff, but the clothes are completely beyond my reach - like $300 dresses. Again, maybe someday...from the clearance rack...:) It all feels wonderful, soft beautiful fabrics. They have the randomest stuff here that is actually useful too, like drawer handles and matchstick jars and twine and...I don't even remember what else. The staff is nice too, not snobby.

Love this place. I stop in every time I am in the East Bay. It is as welcoming as it is appealing. However, the pricing on some items, as noted in other reviews, seems over the top. That is the only reason for my four stars instead of five.

This shop is beautifully stocked with airy linens, skillfully carved wood, masterfully designed wrought iron, and sweet-smelling organic skin care. This is the place to go in Oakland for high quality, handmade goods.

Atomic Garden curates a fine selection of eco-friendly and local products for those who appreciate the value of high quality hand-produced goods. Their understated aesthetic draws inspiration from simple natural materials like wool, linen, and cotton and hearkens back to a simpler life when milk was kept in thick glass bottles and furniture was solidly constructed from hand-hewn wood. Yes, the prices here are not for the faint of heart, but they are commensurate with the high cost of quality materials and craftsmanship.

Beautiful space & decor! Atomic Garden is one of the most visually appealing spots I've ever walked into. Most items are way out of my price range, but I understand the prices behind them and respect the owners' and manager's choice to stock eco-conscious (to use T H.'s word), organic, well-made items. My friend and I talked for a bit with the manager, Trac(e)y, who told us all about the store, its vision, the look, etc. We had a great chat and, though I didn't have cash on me, I promised myself I'd go right home and do my best to help this locally-owned business by writing a positive review. Man, I want to touch those ultra-soft cotton scarves again!

This is a cute place in an area of Rockridge which has priced itself out of the ordinary person's paycheck. With that said, the shop has cute things, lots of organic, "green" stuff (whatever that means any more...aren't we supposed to NOT be so consumed with buying MORE?)...anyway, the shop has an open feel, lots of lovely items and it is possible to pick up a little something without breaking the bank. They also carry a line of denim I think is great (and local! and organic! and the designer is a single mom!), Del Forte jeans. This is a spot that's worth checking out! As an addendum: I found myself lured back into the shop today and succumbed to its' charms...they have a lovely selection of knitted, sustainable items, beautiful pillows, and here's the thing that sucker-punched me: the drawings on the wall (at least some of them) are done by the owners' daughter who is small, and young, and draws amazingly well! It's a find and a true addition to an already pretty saturated shopping neighborhood, but I would make a special effort to cross town to browse here (I already did!).
