"The teams behind and joined forces to open Atta Girl, a bar and bistro with a vaguely French menu and aspirations to corner Logan Square’s date night market. Everyone here looks about ten times more attractive thanks to the space’s dim lighting, whether they're sitting at the front bar or canoodling in one of the big leather booths. In terms of the food, most of the dishes we've tried so far lean “occasional hometown hook-up” rather than “torrid affair you can’t get enough of.” There are a few nice touches—charcuterie and fish are smoked in-house, and the pink peppercorn shortbread with cranberry curd is an ideal dessert for people who hate dessert. The standout cheeseburger with smoked tomato jam (of Cafe Marie-Jeanne fame) makes an appearance, too. However, portions are relatively small, flavors and seasoning are hit-or-miss, and the cocktails are watery. If you're looking for just one dish, make it the duck frites, another holdover from Cafe Marie-Jeanne. This $55 plate of half a smoked duck with a dollop of pâté sitting on crispy-yet-fluffy fries is worth seeking out whether or not you have a date you're trying to woo with poultry and sexy lighting." - Veda Kilaru
