Atticus Coffee and Gifts is a Spokane staple. Let's talk about why!
A Short Atticus History:
- In 2009, 222 N Howard St was bought by Boo Radley founders, local kindhearted "Spoka-loons", and self-proclaimed book nerds, Andy and Kris D.
- In 2023, after careful consideration, Atticus Coffee and Gifts was sold from Kris and Andy to local Spokanites, Wendy and Beau.
- Wendy, with her impressive background in consignment, oversees the bulk of retail. With help from raining heavyweight champion, (retail manager) Kaylee Gaines-McGee, Atticus Coffee & Gifts is made beautiful.Together, with help of retail staff, they cultivate a peaceful boutique atmosphere; displaying books, local art, cups, t-shirts, knick knacks, gifts, and quality coffees & teas for sale.
- Beau, with a strong background in warehouse labour, oversees the cafe side of things with long-term Stronghearted cafe manager; (bad***,) Jamie Freedman.
- To this day Atticus continues to partner with 4 Seasons. Their famous espresso roast, "Atticus Blend," is bought directly from 4 Seasons roasters. 4 Seasons is local to Eastern Washington. 4 Season's Better Business Bureau (BBB) Rating is an impressive A+!
[PERSONAL SIDE-NOTE: I worked personally with Beau for his first year of experience working cafe. I have nothing, if not respect for him. Beau is affable, hardworking, humble, and always learning; always curious. Beau is a personal role model of mine.
If I were to ever stumble into becoming a small business owner, I would like to be like Beau. In my eyes, he's got the makings of a warrior hero. He's courageous, and disciplined, yet he remains compassionate and kind. Don't be fooled by his unassuming nature. He has the heart of a lion, and the will of a titan. To Beau, thank you for your presence. May your path be blessed.]
Fate had plans in mind, so Atticus and I parted ways in 2024.
To this day, this remains my favorite job I ever worked.
Whenever I have the chance to visit my hometown, Spokane, I like to stop at Atticus Coffee & Gifts on Howard St.
When I order, I know that no matter what I order...
- If I'm drinking my go-to cup of espresso,
- If I'm sipping on a cuppa tea,
- If I'm treating my sweet tooth with a chai latte,
(or, if I'm lucky enough to come during the holidays,)
- I'm downing a cup of hot local apple cider during the autumn,
- Or tasting a famous eggnog latte between 'Turkey and Christmas',
I know I'll never disappointed,
(And they'd always be happy to remake my drink if I was.)
Heck! Maybe I'd buy a treat on my way out! Maybe I'll walk out with a fun book, or a collection of postcards, or a mug inspired by local artist legend Harold Balazs in his artstyle, radically exclaiming "TRANSCEND THE BULLS***!"
Or... Maybe... Just maybe... I'll stumble upon a little unexpected something. Maybe I'll find the thing, the thing! The thing I didn't know I was looking for! The thing that will make a 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵 sentimental gift for one of my closest, dearest friends.
When I go into Atticus, I know I'm going to be treated with hospitality, respect, and a smile. I love this store, but most importantly; I love the people who work here.
I love the people who visit. I love the new faces, the old, and the energy that moves and breathes through this space.
To Atticus' Ownership, Management, and Staff;
Thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I love y'all! 🫀
Thanks for all the fish! ☕ (Wait! I meant espresso!! 🐟)
Godbless, 🙏
