One of the coolest coffee places/shops we’ve been to. The whole vibe is amazing, the book references and everything in between. Coffee and drinks were were SO SO GOOD. The shop has so many great books and gifts to browse and the decor is perfection. Definitely a great place to check out.

I absolutely love this place! I've been there several times and the vibe is always warm, welcoming and inclusive. The food is good and the drinks are amazing. The staff are always super cool and helpful. Sadly, I no longer live in Spokane. However, when I called with questions about the tea there, Brendon was incredibly helpful and friendly. The aesthetic of Atticus is delightful, but it's the people who create the feel of a place. Atticus is truly one of my favorite places. 💚

* Biased review. I was a cafe employee of 2 years ~ '22 to '24 * Atticus Coffee and Gifts is a Spokane staple. Let's talk about why! A Short Atticus History: - In 2009, 222 N Howard St was bought by Boo Radley founders, local kindhearted "Spoka-loons", and self-proclaimed book nerds, Andy and Kris D. - In 2023, after careful consideration, Atticus Coffee and Gifts was sold from Kris and Andy to local Spokanites, Wendy and Beau. - Wendy, with her impressive background in consignment, oversees the bulk of retail. With help from raining heavyweight champion, (retail manager) Kaylee Gaines-McGee, Atticus Coffee & Gifts is made beautiful.Together, with help of retail staff, they cultivate a peaceful boutique atmosphere; displaying books, local art, cups, t-shirts, knick knacks, gifts, and quality coffees & teas for sale. - Beau, with a strong background in warehouse labour, oversees the cafe side of things with long-term Stronghearted cafe manager; (bad***,) Jamie Freedman. - To this day Atticus continues to partner with 4 Seasons. Their famous espresso roast, "Atticus Blend," is bought directly from 4 Seasons roasters. 4 Seasons is local to Eastern Washington. 4 Season's Better Business Bureau (BBB) Rating is an impressive A+! [PERSONAL SIDE-NOTE: I worked personally with Beau for his first year of experience working cafe. I have nothing, if not respect for him. Beau is affable, hardworking, humble, and always learning; always curious. Beau is a personal role model of mine. If I were to ever stumble into becoming a small business owner, I would like to be like Beau. In my eyes, he's got the makings of a warrior hero. He's courageous, and disciplined, yet he remains compassionate and kind. Don't be fooled by his unassuming nature. He has the heart of a lion, and the will of a titan. To Beau, thank you for your presence. May your path be blessed.] Fate had plans in mind, so Atticus and I parted ways in 2024. To this day, this remains my favorite job I ever worked. Whenever I have the chance to visit my hometown, Spokane, I like to stop at Atticus Coffee & Gifts on Howard St. When I order, I know that no matter what I order... - If I'm drinking my go-to cup of espresso, - If I'm sipping on a cuppa tea, - If I'm treating my sweet tooth with a chai latte, (or, if I'm lucky enough to come during the holidays,) - I'm downing a cup of hot local apple cider during the autumn, - Or tasting a famous eggnog latte between 'Turkey and Christmas', I know I'll never disappointed, (And they'd always be happy to remake my drink if I was.) Heck! Maybe I'd buy a treat on my way out! Maybe I'll walk out with a fun book, or a collection of postcards, or a mug inspired by local artist legend Harold Balazs in his artstyle, radically exclaiming "TRANSCEND THE BULLS***!" Or... Maybe... Just maybe... I'll stumble upon a little unexpected something. Maybe I'll find the thing, the thing! The thing I didn't know I was looking for! The thing that will make a 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵 sentimental gift for one of my closest, dearest friends. When I go into Atticus, I know I'm going to be treated with hospitality, respect, and a smile. I love this store, but most importantly; I love the people who work here. I love the people who visit. I love the new faces, the old, and the energy that moves and breathes through this space. To Atticus' Ownership, Management, and Staff; Thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I love y'all! 🫀 Thanks for all the fish! ☕ (Wait! I meant espresso!! 🐟) Godbless, 🙏 - Taya Fin Shango Laughing 🐸 Kelsey

Adorable coffee shop!! Love the vibe in here and my latte was pretty good. I got the white chocolate maple spice which was not my favorite but still good.

Google
TL;DR: This place is surviving off atmosphere alone, because the service is awful, the food/coffee is mid, and there’s no internet on weekends (which they don’t bother to mention). I used to love this coffee shop. I travel often for work, and stopping in Spokane was always a highlight because of this place, but my latest visit was rough. The staff felt noticeably cold and somehow both disengaged and overwhelmed? I had to wait for the cashier to finish a personal conversation before even acknowledging me. I’m all for having fun at work, but if someone’s standing at the counter… maybe just a quick “I’ll be right with you.” Not asking for much. And before you say, "this is just the PNW attitude..." I'm from New York City, so... try again lol. When I finally ordered, I sat down and couldnt connect to the WiFi, so I asked if the Wi-Fi password had changed. Instead of a simple answer, I heard a shout from across the bar, “NOT ON WEEKENDS.” So, I'll be the one to tell you, since it's not posted anywhere: they don’t allow customers to use the internet on weekends. lol. The upside? I wandered over to First Avenue Coffee and had a great experience — friendly staff, plenty of seating, excellent coffee, and yes… all the Wi-Fi I could desire. And it's near a dispensary, so... two birds. I’m hoping this was just an off day, but it was a pretty stark contrast from how warm and welcoming this place used to be.

Google
Really bummed because I used to love this place when I was younger! It used to be the cool place to hang out and write, study, chat, or meet other creative types. It’s mostly just a trinket shop for non-locals now. There are only a couple tables to sit at, and the staff make it clear they don’t like people hanging out for a long time. I miss the days I could order a latte or two and work on a creative project. I think Covid made them change their business model a little.

Google
Went with a friend for coffee and mentioned she needed to get a gift for a family member who really likes cats. As we were walking in, I looked around and said "if you can't find the perfect cat lady gift here, it doesn't exist". I am thrilled to report i was 1000% correct. Great coffee, cute shop (including TONS of non-cat lady type gifts). Worth checking out.

Google
Great coffee and friendly service. They accidentally forgot my wife’s bagel, but caught it right away and made things right without hesitation. Really appreciated how they handled it—definitely a spot we’ll come back to when in Spokane.

Yelp
Cute market/coffee shop. Coffee is in the back of the shop but peruse the fun stuff they have in the market in the front. I got an iced latte which was good. Was looking to get a smoothie as well but no smoothies here. Staff did offer a suggestion for a nearby smoothie which I thought was nice. It was just off the riverwalk so easy to get to by foot. Not a ton or seating but we got it to go. Good stop.

Yelp
After exploring downtown Spokane and walking through the nearby park with our dogs, my husband and I came to Atticus coffee for our morning pick me up. We sat out on the patio with our pups and appreciated the water bowl and pup cups that the staff provided to us. They were all very kind and engaging. I ordered an iced hazelnut oat milk latte while my husband ordered an iced toffee nut latte. We both decided to have a small bite to eat and ordered bagels with cream cheese. His was a jalapeño and cheese bagel, and mine was an everything bagel. The coffee was delicious and the bagels were tasty as well. I loved wandering around the shop and having the opportunity to explore merchandise from local vendors. If you find yourself in the downtown Spokane area, I would highly recommend stopping by Atticus coffee and gifts.

Yelp
Stopped in after a long walk in the park for a midday pick-me-up, and so glad we did. Not sure if the retail side is a separate business or part of the same operation, but the space is shared between a charming, hip coffee shop and a refreshingly un-kitschy gift shop. Both were super LGBTQ+ friendly, fun, and full of personality. I ended up buying a great hat from the shop, and then my wife and I grabbed a couple of iced coffees before hitting the road. The drinks were delicious--and surprisingly affordable, which is rare these days. No complaints. Keep doing what you're doing!

Yelp
This was a super cute coffee spot. I loved the fact that they had a gift/book shop attached to the cafe. The wall decor that included dozens of pages of To Kill A Mockingbird pasted on their walls was awesome to see. The coffee itself was ok. I'm personally not a fan of Monin syrups and would've preferred house made flavors. This was something that I feel I could just make at home
google avatar

Ann V.

Yelp
Loved this coffee shop. Half coffee shop, half local findings. Cute store with a lot of local stuff. The staff was friendly and welcome and helpful. The girl was kind enough to make me her favorite latte. In a great spot too.

Yelp
Hands down the best coffee shop I have ever been to. Came here the first day of my trip and have now been by for breakfast every day since. Staff is friendly and upbeat. Service is on point and has been consistent. Food and drinks are the absolutely the best. I know I'm from California and have not tried the world famous bagels of New York but these are hands down the best bagels that I have ever had. The French Toast bagel has been my favorite and the Iced Vanilla Lattes and Iced Mochas are rich and flavorful. The gift shop has fun things to buy with a lot of local things to grab as gifts or souvenirs, and the decor in here is a lot of fun. Parking looks easy and convenient although we walked here every day from our hotel.

Yelp
Very cozy vibe. Half the coffee shop is a cute store and the other half is the coffee shop. I highly recommend going if you're looking for little trinkets or cute decorations. The menu is vast, with quality options. All the workers were very nice. I got some stickers, coffee grounds, as well as a salted caramel pistachio matcha that the barista recommended and it was so good. I recommend!

Yelp
I always love coming here. You can shop for gift for yourself or friends and family and drink amazing coffee. I met a friend here for coffee to catch up. I had an amazing white chocolate and maple spice latte. It was delicious!!!! Great atmosphere and everyone is so kind. Close to Riverfront Park, shopping, restaurants. Check out Boo Radley's next door! Highly recommend!
google avatar

George B.

Yelp
Store, decor, menu are all excellent to experience. Located in the heart of town and clearly a location for that locals congregate to. Ordered a large latte, inquired about the beans which they believed were a med/dark roast. Latte was hot and made with care. Unfortunately the beans had a bitter bite after each drink which wasn't my favorite. I will be back to try another hot drink, I'm sure my experience was an outlier. Again, the staff was great. Kudos to one of the barristas, they walked onto the area where customers sit/stand to help a vision impaired customer find a seat. Warmed my heart. Will be back next visit to Spokane for another drink.

Hokuloa B.

Yelp
I love Atticus & Boo Radley's!!! They both have an ever changing assortment of kitschy gifts :) I always spend a few hours just looking at things after grabbing myself a cup of coffee. Their baristas are always so sweet and they make great coffee. When ever i need to buy a birthday present or a "just because lo gift, i stop in here :) come check them out!
google avatar

Denise M.

Yelp
I love this place! They have delicious coffee blends and make yummy coffee drinks. Always something interesting and if you don't know what you want have the barista make you a special Surprise. The gifts are fun to browse through and lots of local choices. I especially like the tea blends and love to shop here.
google avatar

Yelp
What an adorable little shop with coffee and a gift store. To be honest, some items in the gift shop were a little overpriced but all in all they had the cutest selection of books, pens, mugs, etc. I enjoyed a vanilla latte with coconut milk and it was delicious. Give this place a go, if for anything the experience.
google avatar

Shane H.

Yelp
Very unique place! Great latte! Added honey and vanilla. Parking is easy and good for gift shopping.

Yelp
The overall experience was amazing. The ambience in this coffee shop/bookstore and gift store is just absolutely relaxing, peaceful and filled with such kind employees. They can pretty much make any type of coffee you want. They also have amazing, delicious pastries, and tons of books to read and explore the shop.

Shay L.

Yelp
Iced Coffee was good! Ambiance was amazing. Cute little book store & shop for adorable gifts. Coffee was well priced. Only down side is they need to have a speciality coffee of the day or month. Adorable location & store.
google avatar

Maggie J.

Yelp
It's shops like this that make me want to open a coffee shop / gift shop in a hip town. In town visiting and this latte was exactly what I needed after a flight from the east coast last night. Highly recommend their coffee, it's smooth, it's bold, it's everything. The lemon poppy seed scone lacked flavor though the texture was good. Could have used some orange zest or a little something more

Patrick Y.

Yelp
Came here while visiting the city because of the reviews. Cute place and especially nice gift shop adjoining. But I was so disappointed by the service ... first, they refused to serve my espresso in a cup, stating just trying to be "kind to employees today." Evidently there was a loss and somehow serving me espresso in a toxic paper cup that's bound for a landfill is "kind." Turns out I'm visiting due to a death in my family and even though I shared that with them and gave them my condolences, still no way I can have an espresso shot in a real cup. So I let it drop and ordered 6 other drinks for my family then went to pay and no, ...the guy now says I can't take your $100 bill and give you all my change. It's 3:45 pm and surely there's plenty of change in there. He didn't even check the drawer.. overall quite rude.

Yelp
Amazing coffee and service in this lovely coffee shop. Weather was nice to sit outside in their courtyard, however the inside was charming and comfortable too!
google avatar

Yelp
Atticus Coffee & Gifts is a cute place to work. I would linger here longer; however, they ask students and creatives to limit their time so others can also enjoy the café. There are some small tables inside and a few on the patio. Wifi is only available Monday - Friday. Many people were getting their coffee to-go during my visit, so there were plenty of tables available, allowing me to work for about an hour. The café also offers pastry, sandwiches, and of course coffee and tea. During my recent visit I got an iced chai late with oat milk and a chocolate croissant. Both were perfect. The gift shop is adorable and had something for everyone. There are plenty of Spokane-themed gifts, along with cards, journals, books, and décor. Additionally, the employees in the gift shop and the café were super friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Total 5 star and worth a cup in the morning. Very smooth tasting coffee and just the perfect amount of syrups to accompany the bean. Was really surprised by that. Not earthy or flowery or burnt. Made me wonder what adding an extra shot would be like but it was good! Nabbed a banana chocolate chip bread as my poring option and it was wonderful. Really hope we can stop by again before we run out of town but you need to stop by first! Great little nick Mack store inside d the staff was really cheerful and happy we can by to kick start our morning. The other food items in the cooler looked pretty edible and almost decided on a lunch item for breakfast but I saw a fab and had to have it!
google avatar

Yelp
Dare I say it? Atticus Coffee might just be the best coffee shop around. Every visit I've had here has been nothing short of amazing. The coffee is always spot-on--smooth, rich, and full of flavor. Whether I'm grabbing my usual latte or trying something new, it never disappoints. But it's not just the coffee that makes this place special. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, with just the right mix of charm and personality. It's the kind of spot where you can sit and lose track of time, whether you're catching up with a friend or diving into a good book. The staff? Always friendly and welcoming. I've consistently had great service here, which only adds to the experience.

Yelp
Amazing coffee. Incredible service. Awesome store. Tasty baked goods. We don't visit spokompton without multiple stops here. It's an every morning ritual.
google avatar

Melissa M.

Yelp
Adorable coffee and gift shop. Fantastic coffee, pastries, and sandwiches. This was a great place to waste a few hours.
google avatar

Lorri D.

Yelp
Love love, love the spot... My husband and I went here every morning for coffee and breakfast while we were in Spokane. Not only are the coffee and bites delicious, but they also have a super cute gift area as well and a nice little patio.

Natasha S.

Yelp
$9 nasty matcha. The barista cross contaminated the match of different milks. I got oat milk and my sister got whole milk and they moved ice cubes into mine that was from her whole milk.
google avatar

Gabe A.

Yelp
Service was friendly and fast. Food was amazing. Coffee was even better. Really hit the local people who care about coffee spot for me. Plus it's named after one of the most incredible fictional characters ever!
google avatar

Jm P.

Yelp
Love this shop, they have some really cool and witty merch, I bought 2 posters, snacks and 2 coffees. Great spot downtown, I come here every time I'm by the river walk area.
google avatar

YangHwa P.

Yelp
This is a really nice cafe and great selections of gifts item ranging from candles, incense, t-shirts, mugs, tea, and coffee. Service is good, and their cafe seatings are ample. We ordered regular coffee, latte, and Kouign-amann. We were planning on eating in, but the barista thought it was a take out so she had to pour back the latte from take out cup into the mug, thus no latte art However, I enjoyed my latte, and Kouign-amann was buttery, flaky, and delicious.
google avatar

Denise B.

Yelp
Friendly and fast service. They did a great job making this drink to my specific specifications. The gift store is full of amazing and unique gifts.

Jade G.

Yelp
Love this place! Gifts are a little pricey but coffee and treats are great! Definitely coming back and I brought my mom from out of town
google avatar

Savanah H.

Yelp
I have never been disappointed by anything I've gotten here! Coffee is phenomenal, pastries are excellent too! I love looking around at all the fun things they sell here! it's also a great place to come and sit and relax. love this place!
google avatar

Gillian F.

Yelp
Cute spot with nice coffee and large pastries! I got a latte and a blackberry-lemon scone. The coffee here was really good and HOT! I enjoyed my latte. I got one of their amazingly large blackberry lemon scones, and liked it but thought the baking powder/soda taste was pretty forward in the parts that didn't have icing on it. Still very good and I ate the whole thing, which kept me full past lunch. The atmosphere is fun, great place for a gift for anyone. Shirts, stickers, mugs, posters, maps, games, and knick-knacks of all sort abound. Location is great and close to the waterfront. Parking can be hard to find on-street but there are plenty of lots around if you need a place.
google avatar

Linda T.

Yelp
Ambiance was cool. Pastries were tasty. Chai tea was not too sweet. My toddler and I enjoyed coming here. Would come back. It was a little dark inside though and a bit quiet. Loved the flowers in the patio seating
google avatar

Sravani D.

Yelp
This is a coffee shop tucked in a quaint little gift shop full of pretty things and books!! I have been pleasantly refreshed with not just the coffee and service but the gift shop too, which has been full of all things cute I couldn't get enough of the gift shop with various little plants, planters, mugs and books and soveneirs! The place was a visual delight Go check this place and you won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Paul R.

Yelp
Stopped in for a cortado while in Spokane for a short visit. Cool bookshop with some ancient books (like from the 17th century!) and interesting selection of gift-shop type of things. The cortado (on their menu as a gibraltar) was served too hot, but the ingredients were reasonably calibrated and as it cooled down it was a decent drink - I would say very satisfactory relative to my expectations. I would come back and try another and let them know to keep the milk on the warm side.
google avatar

Heather K.

Yelp
Great coffee. Fast workers. It was fun to get my coffee and explore the gift shop. Lots of cool gifts and books.
google avatar

Doug R.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, yummy pastries, one of the better lattes I've had and friendly service
google avatar

Max G.

Yelp
LOVE LOVE LOVE. Inside and outside seating. Coffee and tea place with alternative milk options. Ambiance is nice and low lit. Not a loud place at all. You can park in the parking lot where you pay at the machine or you can do paid street parking. They have a jar of dog treats. Free water. Within the coffee shop is also an amazing shop with things by local artists, from fair trade, etc. they've got everything! Books, puzzles, cookware, plants, candy, mugs, etc.! But it is a bit pricey.
google avatar

Travis S.

Yelp
Excellent coffee spot and cool gift shop. I recommend getting the Cappuccino or the Latte. When I was there they didn't have any glassware for dining in so everything was made to go.
google avatar

Elissa T.

Yelp
The gift store is IMPRESSIVE and full of whimsy, and their coffee is delicious! They have an interesting selection of gifts that focuses on curious, functional, beautiful and local items. I docked a star for the abysmal styrofoam-like bagel I couldn't finish. Come for coffee and gifts, eat elsewhere (or at least avoid the bagels)!

The W.

Yelp
Coffee and pastries were excellent! Cute little gift shop attached as well. We came back later and got some really cute home decor items. Definitely a must stop if in the area.
google avatar

Heather P.

Yelp
The coffee is good just took an awhile to get it and the store is so crowded with stuff. Don't get me wrong there is a lot of tourists stuff there if you're Faust passing thru.
google avatar

Lucinda B.

Yelp
I am truly a coffee snob. I owned my own Espresso Shop for 12 years. This place has it Spot On! We ordered a Chai Tea, Oat Milk Latte and a Blacksmith Drip. All were perfect! Also tried 2 different types of cookies and they were Amazing! Great place to shop, unique fun gifts! Nice seating area. We loved the vibe! Free parking too! Will be back!!!
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
Great coffee in a cool shop. Pastries were just ok though, I've definitely had better. The shop is very cute with great unique gifts. Definitely worth a visit!
google avatar

Tia D.

Yelp
Not only do you receive quality service.. the coffee and pastries are ahhhmazing. They have tables and chairs for dine in option! I got a vanilla latte and my kido got hot chocolate both were made to perfection.. We tried a few pastries because there were 4 of us and none of them disappointed! To top it all off there is a very adorable store inside the coffee shop! Which has tons of unique souvenirs and little things! We loved our visit, 10/10
google avatar

Morgan N.

Yelp
Atticus is a "must stop" every time we visit Spokane. The decor is amazing with a mix of whimsy and cottage core. A little goth as well. Nice staff and they are constantly busy in the café area making coffees. I wish I could spend $1000 in the store I every time I visit, but I can usually only afford one item. Definitely one of my favorite stores ever.
google avatar

Richard A.

Yelp
On our last day in Spokane we finally got ourselves over to Atticus Coffee & Gifts, in walking distance from our hotel. This was an interesting little coffee shop that is more than just coffee. When you first walk in you walk into the gifts section of the shop. Lots of interesting little gifts like mugs, candles, card games, etc. Nice little souvenirs to take home. On the other side of the store is the actual coffee shop which has its own separate entrance from the outside. I loved the little nooks to have your coffee, great for a coffee date. I ordered an Iced Caramel Macchiato and a sandwich. Both were great and the service from the staff was excellent. We ate in their outdoor seating section which was pretty nice. It was outdoor seating but still felt like we were enclosed in a private section away from pedestrians in the street. This is a great little coffee shop, glad we finally got a chance to visit before we left!
google avatar

Lucy M.

Yelp
I was walking around the area and decided to stop by for some coffee. Very cute place and ambiance! Staff were friendly and service was quick. I got an iced mocha and I didn't even have to add any more sugars or cream because it was so good by itself.

Amara N.

Yelp
Favorite place to have coffee and a pastry and bonus you can shop the cute shop!! It's my go to spot for coffee
