"Atuvava in south Minneapolis is the newest gluten-free bakery on the scene. Alex Ellison’s cinnamon rolls, swimming in tins of silky vanilla icing, have been a hit since day one — not to mention her flaky Danishes and craggy muffins with bits of strawberry and peach peeking through. Atuvava serves an impressively airy gluten-free baguette, too, and an assortment of other loaves, buns, and cookies." - Stacy Brooks, Eater Staff

Whether you need to avoid gluten or not, this bakery is AMAZING. But if you are gluten free or celiac and you’re looking for a place where you can finally feel “normal”, this place is your new best friend! The baguettes and bread are absolutely out of this world! They are everything you want from a European style bread! Light and fluffy with a delicious crunchy crust. Toasted or fresh out of the oven, I still have to remind myself that it’s gluten free. We’ve done everything with this bread, from using a baguette to make “pizza bread” to making the most amazing French toast. They have a wide variety of additional treats and desserts too. Food memories are powerfully things. I swear when I first tasted one of their current scones, I almost cried! Their cinnamon rolls will bring you right back to your childhood. And the pastries are amazing, no matter what the flavor of the day is. I’ve been following them since they were a little front porch bakery, and there’s a reason why they have such a following. This is one bakery you don’t want to miss out on!

This bakery is ACTUAL MAGIC. The owner has stumbled upon a GF secret the rest of the world doesn’t have. The lemon curd danish is hands down the best pastry I’ve ever eaten- so flaky, so balanced. I’ve traveled the world and had many years of eating gluten… this beats everything. Bonus: the staff is a bunch of sweethearts. Out-of-Towners, come here to get a true taste of MN! This place represents the best of the food and the people.

Fun first visit here today. About a 15 minute wait with a “take a number” waiting system. The staff was so positive and friendly to everyone who reached the counter. Love that everything here is gluten free and multiple items were also dairy free so my husband could enjoy! I don’t have any diet sensitivities and LOVED the cinnamon roll. Worth a little trip across town for goodies and to support this small business!

These are the best gluten free baked goods I've ever had. I have celiac with severe sensitivity and I can pretty much only eat from dedicated gluten free spaces so this is amazing for me. Their danishes, scones, muffins, cinnamon rolls, and breads are phenomenal. And gluten-eating partner approved!

I recently had to go on a gluten free diet and am so grateful for this gem. My favorite treats are the pumpkin muffins (sooo flavorful and moist!) as well as the lemon curd danishes. You would never know the goodies were gluten free. Absolutely amazing!

Google
Absolutely outstanding gluten free bread and pastries. The bread is so good that it made sandwiches enjoyable again. The cinnamon rolls are gooey and delicious. Oh, and the peanut butter cookies are a PB lover’s dream. If the incredible bakery isn’t enough to get you in the door, the staff and owner are so wonderful.

This place is absolutely amazing. I’ve tried many local bakeries that are dedicated gluten free and nothing compares to this place. The only downfall is their limited hours for their phenomenal food. But honestly I’m grateful for the afternoon availability due to work restrictions and amazing freshness on their part. Photo of a strawberry cheese danish and the rustic loaf. Soooooo good

Google
a god sent!!! their bread is to die for. the first time i brought a load home and put a slice in the toaster(because who would eat gf bread not toasted, the toaster makes it tolerable) the aroma that fill my kitchen nearly brought tear to my eyes. love that it’s fresh too. my only qualm is that there are only a few vegan options. muffins are great, no complaints in the existing vegan options. but everything i leaving wishing “i wish i could have gotten that!”

Yelp
This place is 100% dedicated to gluten-free options! I ordered one of everything to try, and so far, I've tasted the fresh baguette, which came out of the oven warm. It had a crispy crust on the outside and was soft on the inside--so amazing! Alex, the owner, and the entire staff are very friendly. The muffin I tried was warm, fluffy, and a little squishy. I can't wait to eat the other items! I will definitely come back for the cinnamon rolls, as they were still baking when I visited! I look forward to returning to try even more delicious offerings! Note: review posted on behalf of my wife who is gluten free.

Yelp
I've been waiting to try this place for awhile and finally happened by when it was open. Actually that is the only problem I have with the place. Not open regularly enough for me to try all the tasty treats. I should say I eat plenty of gluten and normally am not a fan of gluten free treats but whatever they are doing here might just change my mind. The brownie was terrific. The morning glory muffins as good as any I've had with gluten. And the monster cookie wasn't half bad either. They were out of all their loaves of bread by the time I got there so I'm excited to go back and give those a try.

Yelp
I was recently told I need to go gluten free for my health, so I've been scouting out different businesses in the Twin Cities. This was my first visit to Atuvava and oh boy you bet I'll be back. They are open two days a week (Tues and Sat) from 2pm-6pm. Many reviews mentioned long lines out the door and to be there early. I got there shortly after 2pm on a Saturday and it was mildly busy, but no line out the door. The staff were incredibly fast and so kind. It seems like the fresh cinnamon rolls are the first to go (but they do have some frozen). They have a limit for bread - 2 big loaves and 2 baguettes is the maximum you can buy. They have an assortment of scones, cookies, muffins, biscuits, turnovers, and brownies as well. If, like me, you have anxiety in new places this next part is for you. When you walk in, grab a number. The person at the register will be calling out numbers to place your order. While you're waiting, grab any items from the freezer that you'd like. If you get lucky, some of the products may have just come out of the oven. That was the case for the loaves I purchased and the cheddar biscuits. They're so warm and fluffy you won't be able to resist eating them. And another plus - no corn products are used! They use cornstarch to line their baking pans, but no corn flour or other corn products are in their baked goods. This was a big positive as I was shopping for someone who is GF and cannot eat corn products. Everything was so delicious and I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
This is da bomb! I was just diagnosed as a celiac last month. I cried. I'm a foodie! How will I ever live my life?! I love gluten. Im a baker and I've tried to make gluten free cookies, cakes, breads, etc, with dismal results. So here I am, craving decent pastries. After reading a few reviews I went to Atuvava and bought bread, biscuits, brownies, cookies and scones. I decided I'd try them all and see if maybe I can fall in love with pastries and cookies again. Holy cow!!! I found heaven. I found love. I am at peace with the world again. I had my husband, who is not gluten sensitive, to confirm that these items really are just as good, if not better, than their full gluten sisters. Everything was amazing! He couldn't believe how good everything was. If I could give this bakery more stars, I would! I wish they had more hours, or were open more days, but honestly, it doesn't matter. If you go through heaven and hell to find excellent gluten-free pastries and bread, you will find a way to get to this bakery. Go check it out. You will thank me and them

Yelp
Atuvava was amazing!! They open at 2 on Saturday's and have different items each week from what I understand. I got there 20 minutes before they opened and there was already a line of about 20 individuals ahead of me! They handed out samples as you waited in line. I got the baguette, cinnamon rolls, peanut butter cookie, and chocolate mocha cookies. Everything was amazing for gluten free. I haven't had a baguette that tasted that good since before I was Celiac and that was very exciting for me. When standing in line there were others around me that kept on coming back week to week and I see why! The prices are comparable to other bakeries so I think it's very reasonable. I will definitely be back and I am excited to try new items they have. Parking is in the neighborhood around the store so just plan on looking for a spot for a few minutes.

Yelp
Holy smokes! This place is AWESOME! We are a celiac household and we are constantly trying everything under the sun that is gluten free. This place wins. Hands down. Pretty much everything is delicious and the bread is the closest to gluten containing bread we have ever tried. I went for the first time on February 1st and the staff were wonderful! I said I was looking for a sampling of items and their recommendations did not disappoint! Worth every penny!

Yelp
Wow wow wow! I am beyond impressed! I got there 15 min before opening (hours right now are 2-6pm Thursday and Saturday) and there was already a line of people! Once opened I was given a number and that is what is used for checkout. I was so impressed with the options and the stuff IS BETTER THAN ITS GLUTEN COUNTERPARTS!! Fully gluten free and celiac safe!! Everyone was very friendly and accommodating :) will return!

Yelp
Gluten free breads and baked goods that are delicious to eat (and look at)! The line was out the door & along the full length of the building, well worth the wait!

Yelp
Just stumbled upon Atuvava today and I'm so very disappointed I didn't find it earlier. I'm in bread heaven. Hands down the most delicious bread I've had in a decade.

Yelp
We have been long time customers of Alex and family's Gluten Free cottage bakery, so we were thrilled to hear of the plans to open a storefront. Well the soft opening did not disappoint! We arrived about five minutes to 10:00 (opening) and there was already a nice sized line. A few minutes later Alex herself opened the door and we commenced on deciding which of her delicious treats we were going to take home. Cherry Almond Scones, Ooey gooey cinnamon rolls, coconut cherry oatmeal Cooke and a chocolatey brownie went in our brand new cloth Atuvava shopping bag along with a fresh baguette. We didn't get a current scone or either of the crusty loaves that were offered. They also have packaged granola and oat scones. We couldn't wait and downed the brownie in the car on the drive home! Please go try some of the delicious treats and support a great local family bakery!

Yelp
Best Gluten Free treats I have ever had. Incredibly kind owner and staff. The new shop is wonderful!

Yelp
I order from Alex once a month to restock my freezer with great bread and sometimes scones, or other specialties. Everything is consistent and just wonderful.

Yelp
The best quality and tasty gluten free baked goods I've ever had. Cinnamon buns, all types of breads, cookies, brownies, muffins and special surprises a long the way. Alex, the owner, is a fantastic human being. She goes over and above to serve our the gluten free needs. So happy I found her!

Yelp
Atuvava has the most delicious breads, scones, buns, and more. I just got my first order, an easy contact-free pickup, and I couldn't wait to get home before I dug in. The hamburger buns are soft and has the same texture and smell of homemade bread made with wheat flour. I couldn't wait to cut off the heel of the crusty loaf of bread and it was as satisfying as any homemade loaf. What to try next? Anything on the menu!
