Incredible place to have some beers and good food. Parking on Kercheval is paid, but don’t put coins in the meter, you have to use a website/app to pay for parking. If you park on a side street it’s free. The building is large and tons of space for big groups either outdoor or indoor. TV’s to watch sports. Haven’t had a bad beer here yet. One of the best parts we stumbled on was the Happy Hour from 3:13-6:16 M-F which gets you $3.13 beer and $6.16 food. You would think it is a small portion since it’s on happy hour but you would be wrong. This will be a place we return to often.

Google
Atwater in the Park is an incredibly unique venue with excellent service and the beer is undoubtedly the main draw. It sells itself. I feel like this location, in the Winter, could do more to draw a crowd or promote the product - either through more social media presence, more television events centered around Detroit sports, live music events, or other ideas toward gathering and gaining business. The food is decent but could be improved as is the food alone wouldn’t lure people in without the established product - the beer. We love Atwater in the Park and wish it to flourish and be around for years to come. Cheers.

Ordered the “house made pretzel” and a stale pretzel came out cold in the middle. Terrible. Do not recommend. It’s NOT hard. 😂

Google
This was a perfect spot to sit outside and enjoy some delicious food and drinks on a gorgeous fall day. The biergarten was beautiful and we were really impressed with the quality of food. The GM took great care of us and showed the kids the brand new game room inside full of tons of board games and video games. Highly recommend checking this spot out- we will definitely be back!!

Google
Had a wonderful lunch today at Atwater in the Park! Food was amazing but the service was above and beyond amazing! Thank you Juanita for your wonderful service today and kindness towards my Mom. We had a great lunch today, and your gentle soul and kindness made it that much better! We shall be back!

The SE MI Brewery Discovery Tour continues. (I'm done counting, it takes too much effort) The building used to be a church. I personally love that repurposing. (Once saw a church knocked down to put in a Walmart! ) The layout works great: big U-shaped bar surrounded by 4-seat high-top tables. The all-important stainless steel vessels taking the place of the pulpit & choir. 6 big screens are spread around for the sports oriented. There is a room of the back of the main one with big leather-clad easy chairs & an actual fireplace. So cozy. The free parking is in the back but you have to enter from the Biergarten which is entered from the corner. So, if you or a compadre are using a wheelchair, get dropped off at the corner. The beer list is pretty broad, 2 pages, the food menu is of decent size. Got a Lip Lock Cherry stout followed by a Peach Blonde. The stout was less sweet than expected (based on nothing) but nicely balanced. The peach version of the Dirty Blonde was tasty and refreshing. Ate an Atwater Brat in-between. The brat was OK. The pretzel bun was good, the toppings (cheese, jalapeños, bacon bits) were good, too. The brat itself was the weak spot, tasted too much like a big hotdog.

Google
cross contaminated food Three of us came to have lunch. We ordered drinks and looked at the menu. My girlfriend informed the staff that she had celiac disease and ordered a burger with a gluten free bun, no pub sauce (contains gluten) with mayo. Requested no fries (shared fryer contains gluten). They offered to substitute with chips, but those also contain gluten so we Declined. The meal we came out and there were fries on the side, touching the burger. We asked to have a new burger because the fries have gluten. They said they could take the fries off the plate, but they have already touched the burger at this point and her gluten allergy could be triggered. Someone came back from the kitchen and apologized, offered to remake the order and gave her a free drink. Everything seemed good, but the new burger came out and had no mayo. It’s not really pleasant to eat a dry burger so we all waited another 10 min to get the staffs attention and ask for the mayo that was supposed to be on the burger. They said they would grab some for us. 15 min later, we still haven’t gotten a mayo, her burger is cold and me and our friend have only eaten half our meal because we are trying to be polite so we can enjoy our lunch together. We decide we can’t finish our meal and will find somewhere else to eat. I ask for the bill so we can get going and find food. Another 10 minutes goes by and I walk up to the bar and ask for the bill. We get the bill and the staff removed her burger from the bill and took another 10% off. In reality we didn’t even get to eat our food as we were waiting for the rest of the meal to be served. We drank our drinks and left 3 uneaten meals at the table. We paid $69.65 + the $14 tip as we don’t want to be rude. We paid $73.65 for a few drinks and half 2 eaten meals This was a horrible experience. I feel ripped off at this point. We come to this restaurant 2-3 times a month and have never had a bad experience, but after this time I’m not sure we want to return.

Google
One my absolute go to breweries when I visit Detroit. Garett was an absolute gem, sassy, but one of my absolute favorite bartenders in a long time. Beers were absolutely fantastic. Garett was able to recommend beers that we absolutely loved. Will keep coming back. Just don’t touch the fireplace glass like a dangus.

Yelp
Echoing Joni D's review from a month ago and wishing I had read it before visiting today; might have prevented the disappointment. I will start by saying that we visited on New Year's Eve afternoon so it's a holiday week and I didn't expect it to be stellar. However it was so disappointing I won't be back. Met a dude here in 2018 for our first date and it was always a special place to us. Comfy, good menu, great atmosphere; we came here a lot. Today he suggested we stop in for lunch and I was excited. Sadly, the menu is half of what it used to be and nearly everything was sold out. We both ended up with our third or fourth choice from an already small menu. I got the nachos. They arrived cold, with visible oil all over the chips, ingredients missing, and the chicken tasted off. Didn't eat. Hubby's meal was better. He said it was good but it wasn't what he wanted. Finally, the furniture layout and chairs have changed. They are lovely but not comfortable nor accessible for fat folks and people w disabilities. And most of the TVs were displaying xfinity error messages. The whole atmosphere and vibe were way off

Yelp
When we first arrived, I was pretty impressed by how gorgeous this restaurant is. Repurposed from an old church, Atwater has kept many of the historical features of the building including beautiful stained glass windows throughout. As for the service, I found my waiter to be very attentive and quick, however they warned us that they only had one person in the kitchen. So yes, food did take a while, but at a bar like this it was good time to drink our beers and play games! They have a small arcade in the back near the bathrooms & a machine to make change for the arcade. Now to the food, myself and my partner got the spicy chicken sandwich and while it was delicious- it did not have any spicy flavor or sauce to it- we wondered if they missed our sandwiches in putting some kind of sauce on it? Not sure- but despite this the sandwich was good! - especially the sweet pretzel bun. I see on the menu they have a pretzel appetizer..... if that's anything like this pretzel bun I imagine most customers would really like it! This is also a brewery- so make sure to try their beer! You're probably familiar with their Dirty Blonde, but here they have several atwater brand beers that I've never seen in store. (They also sell their beer to go at a cheaper price than I've seen a liquor stores.) I tried the Fruit Guru and thought it was really good- definitely a must have for those who like a fruity, sweeter beer. Overall- I would recommend this restaurant as a fun and cute place to come. Note that on Tuesdays they have trivia nights, and during warm weather there is a very cute outdoor seating area. This establishment has parking across the street. Expect to pay ~$20-$30 per person.

Yelp
We went on Friday, Jan 3rd. we had just visited the children's bookstore nearby and wanted a quick bite. Intrigued by the converted church, we came here. Super cool inside, have a drink by the fire and bring your kids! They have books, board games and Nintendos! Our son was thrilled to see an original NES. The service was great, super kind waitstaff, very patient with our kids and fun to talk to! My husband can be a burger snob, but he LOVED his burger. Our son had the pierogis and gobbled them all up. Our daughter had the mac and cheese, which we all tried. The beer cheese is just the right touch! I ordered the avocado wrap with fried chicken and kettle chips. No complaints! Bring your friends and fam! You won't be disappointed. They even used some of the church pews for seating!

Yelp
A: Brewery in an old church. Yes, please. B: When we walked in to Atwater, the bartender Juanita was so kind and recommended some great beers (Lip Lock Cherry Stout) and some much needed food. She was just as much a great component to our time at Atwater. C: the beers were equally of note.

C M.

Yelp
The beer was good, the food not. We tried to call in an order for takeout on Saturday, February 1, 2025. No one ever answered the phone. So we went there and ordered and had a beer waiting for the takeout food. The beer was excellent. One of the dinners we ordered was missing when we got home. The fish and chips was really poor: way too much better and almost no texture of fish-- for the consideration of management the fillet of fish at McDonald's is much better. The french fries are good. The staff is friendly, but not the top of the chart. Altogether, I was impressed by the beer and disappointed by everything else. I want to come again, but have a manager in the kitchen who knows what they're doing and a fish and chips that tastes a whole lot better.

Yelp
Loved this place! I have always enjoyed Atwater beer when I visit Detroit and it was great fun to visit their satellite location in an old church. Beautiful building with tasteful decor that preserved the building's character. The beee is excellent and the menu had a number of vegetarian and vegan items, including a satisfying chili. My sister and I split a salad- not sure how one person could have eaten that. Friendly service. My only complaint would be the tables were a bit small for the food.
google avatar

Rachel E.

Yelp
Food is always good here no matter what you get. If you're with a group, then you need to get the giant pretzel! So so yummy! Great that there is indoor and outdoor seating. Only thing that isn't the greatest is the service. Still will come back since we like their food and drinks but never get your hopes up for prompt or friendly service.

Yelp
I've been to Atwater in Grosse Pointe Park for trivia nights with people from my high school. It's a nice place to hang out with a nice big outdoor seating and bar area. The building is a former church, and it's beautiful. It would fit right into the world of Harry Potter. Several heaters are available, but they didn't work well when a friend and I tried to sit outside last month. The fun atmosphere and trivia nights make up for some of the mediocre food. The bottom crust of the pizza we ordered was too thin and burned. The Big Ol' Pretzel is better than the pizza. The photo doesn't do it justice. It is humongous, and two orders of the pretzel were enough to split among a dozen people. It comes with beer cheese and dirty blonde mustard. The beer cheese was delicious with the pretzel. I would recommend ordering it as a shared appetizer. Another time I came here with a high school friend, we were never given menus or asked if we wanted to order anything. The waitress was well-meaning and said she didn't want to interrupt our conversation, but after an hour without being asked if we wanted to order anything, we left and went to Cellar 313 for food. Overall, Atwater can be a hit or miss, but it's a good place to gather with friends to have a drink, load up on carbs, and stop by on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. for trivia night.

Yelp
Got free beer and good food, helllll yeah bartender was a smoke show great service. 10/10 will come again

Yelp
Atwater was AMAZING!! I booked a table for 8 for Mother's Day. It was a gorgeous, sunny day & the light came through the stained glass & was so beautiful. The food was SO good & not expensive. The courtyard on site was very cute with a large patio. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! Ty Atwater for a great Mother's Day!! Brandon

Yelp
Awesome place. Great food and beer. Service was excellent. The building is very cool as well. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
Nice Biergarten. The location used to be an old church, which was remodeled into a bar/Biergarten. I like how the old church is incorporated into the new design of the restaurant/bar. There's a nice outdoor patio with another bar. We had the spicy chicken sandwich, which was recommended by the young bartender inside the restaurant. I must say it was a winner. It was not too spicy, just enough and it was served with kettle chips, which were delicious and homemade. I will definitely recommend. We also tried the dirty, blonde wheat Ale-apparently this is the most popular beer at the beer garden (it was refreshing and light)!!

Yelp
Great ambience opposite to their downtown brewery, church changed to a great place to hangout. Definitely great place for summer outdoor events.

Pointes M.

Yelp
This is a good place. I enjoy the food, and it's kind of neat to have a beer in an old church building. I just with they had a wider selection on their menu. I've always had decent service. It can be a little slow if they're super busy, but the staff is always friendly.

Yelp
Back at my favorite Atwater location. Anne and crew are so welcoming and on their game. Love the ambiance of this location. The stained glass glistens in the sun. Patio tables outside are ample and setup for both human and furry friends. Haven't been here in a minute and they have doubled if not tripled their vegan offerings. Yeah! From Beyond brats, chorizo, pizza, to buffalo wings- every appetite is satisfied. So happy to have a local brewery accommodate all diets/lifestyles. Thank you Atwater in the Park. We love you!

Alexander W.

Yelp
We visited on 2/19/2024 and it one of the best experiences we have ever had. I must say, the most memorable things about this brewery was the server. We were the only people in there and she treated us so well. In addition to offering us samples of every beer we were interested or questioning, we noticed that she always kept herself busy while attentive. The beers/ciders were also quite tasty. One last thing is it also made a special memory for us as I won a stuffed animal from the claw machine and we were celebrating our anniversary.

Michele A.

Yelp
Excellent!! The bartender, quantita was amazing!! Friendly, welcoming and professional. Will come back especially because of her and the beer!!

Yelp
The food was decent, above average overall. We didn't mind the slightly higher prices as the venue is super cool and the town is on the high end. Service left a lot to be desired. We waited over 10 minutes to be greeted after we sat. We waited for over an hour for the waitress to order dinner before I went to the bar and asked her to place the order. I was told 20 minutes or so for the food, which took over 30 minutes, this was after the entre rest of the restaurant had ordered and been served. The appetizer came out with the dinner, which to me is annoying. The only refils we got were when my wife went to the bar and asked for them. When she brought refills for our boys she took the rest of my drink, which i was rationing as we coudn't get any timely service. The server was super nice. But her and a waiter continued to walk past us and never checked to see if we wanted to order, even though we had menus. The place was busy upon arrival, but not nearly full. Honestly, felt like we were from out of town and not appreciated.

Yelp
I'm rather surprised I have never reviewed this Atwater. I was in need of this tagabrew tag and for some reason couldn't manage to get up here to do it. The hours are just not conducive to making plans. But because it's the week of Christmas they extended their hours and I was able to come after seeing a patient in the area. Worked out well! Atwater is huge! It's a really cool atmosphere. It's located in an old church and they kept the characteristics of the church in tact. There is a large private room that you can use if you have a party. There is an outdoor area that is fun in the summer. They often have live music playing. It is a great spot to check out!
google avatar

Lindsey B.

Yelp
Juanita was a gem! She was kind and helpful. Very personable. The food was great too! Juanita was the star of the show however!

Beth H.

Yelp
Our server was great, but I didn't get her name. It started to get busy after we walked in, but we never felt neglected. The brewery being in an old church is a fun touch! It's a chill atmosphere, perfect for after-work food and drinks. We chose to sit inside, at the bar, but there's a ton of outdoor seating as well. The chicken tender platter was good, and my husband's Atwater brat looked incredible. It was served on a pretzel bun with chips on the side, and the chips were so tasty. I need whatever seasoning they put on those chips. For drinks, we had the Motown Cosmo and the Peach beer. Recommend both!

Joe S.

Yelp
go see Charlie he's dope. Food was on point and the beers are delish. service was great and the ambiance is fun. having luch in an old church

Yelp
Had a tasty lunch there. It is such a fun vibe and the staff is friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back.

Britney S.

Yelp
As always the food and beverages are amazing. We enjoy the Atwater brat or vegan brat options. Service is impeccable. They also recently renovated and we love the updates. Family friendly and great for watching a local football game.

Jennifer T.

Yelp
Such a great evening for a private party. Food and drink were great. Mallory and Juanita went above and beyond!

Joni D.

Yelp
Eh, it has fallen off. We have gone to this establishment several times in the past. Six years ago, it was an outstanding experience. However, within the past three months, we have dined here twice. Both times have been lackluster. The beer has always been middle of the road, better than most but not as good as some. The food, once enjoyable, served hot and delivered to the table by a friendly knowledgeable staff, has changed drastically. Two of us dined in. We ordered the pretzel bites as opposed to the large Bavarian pretzel. The large Bavarian pretzel is always delightful. The pretzel bites were trash, resembling something that was microwaved. One of us ordered the fish and chips the other the pierogies. The fish and chips arrived two minutes after the pretzel bites and 20 minutes before the pierogies. When the pierogies finally arrived, the fish was cold. Once I started to eat the fish, I realized the fryer oil was expired and should have been changed long ago. I should've known better, a gentleman at the bar threw his napkin on his full plate of fish and chips and left after talking to the waiter. That was my sign to do the same, yet we pushed on. I have to accept accountability, I now see that this terrible experience was my own fault. Rather than complaining or shorting our waitress a tip we finished what we could and paid for the meal and tipped 20%. We now know that this establishment is no longer an option for us, we are locals and dine out regularly. The pierogis were a strange dish with competing flavors. Nothing was particularly good about this meal. The wait staff were happy and somewhat kind, they all seem disengaged with reality. Looking back on that fact, maybe they know they are riding a sinking ship. The one good thing is that we now know never to go back. One could speculate that this has much to do with the 2020 buyout by Molson.

Yelp
In this day and age finding a brewery that stands out is a difficult thing. We all like to consider ourselves connoisseurs of craft beer so what makes a brewery stand out? Passion of employees, plain and simple. Atwater consistently brings myself, my husband, and our friends back because the bartenders are knowledgeable, kind, and funny. Our most recent Val (didn't catch a last name) was so incredibly genuine, the kind of person you could sit and chat with for hours on a variety of subjects while she walks you through Atwater's newest brews. 10/10 would recommend.

Deborah B.

Yelp
My husband and I visited Atwater in the in the Park while in town visiting for a family event. The two of us decided to stop at this really cool place. It's a converted church turned brewery. What a beautiful building. We bellied up to the bar for an appetizer and a few beers. The wings were fantastic. The beer was good too... however, the staff working behind the bar was outstanding. (I think her name was Valerie.) She was so friendly and welcoming. I wished we could have stayed the entire day; however, we will be back. Thank you for a wonderful first experience.
google avatar

Stacia G.

Yelp
Went here on a Sunday afternoon for a bite to eat and some beer. The beer was great and the selection changes frequently. The ladies at the bar are kind enough to give you a taste of anything - bonus! We had poutine and the vegan wings (aka cauliflower). Both delicious! Best use of church space ever and a lovely patio for the summer.

Jaclyn V.

Yelp
They unfortunately had a very limited menu and it said they had pizza online when they did not. We ended up having to leave and try to find somewhere else last minute.
google avatar

Kourtney A.

Yelp
I have always loved Atwater in the park. It was where I first found out about all the great beers they make. They did a sour patch rendition and it was so good I wish they had it 24/7. It's pretty cool that it's inside an old church. The food, well it's hit or miss I think it depends on who is cooking that day. It's the same for the service, sometimes it can be amazing and sometimes not so much. But when you go on a good night. It's definitely 10/10
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
I really like the venue but the times that I went the beers were mediocre compared to the other metro Detroit breweries.

Ruthanne B.

Yelp
our server was phenomenal to start with. we were a table of 13 and she was very courteous and we didn't have to wait for our drinks and food. The drinks were very tasty and our food was delicious and the portions were great. it was my first time there but we will be going again.

R. G.

Yelp
We somehow timed our visit when it was almost completely empty. The giant pretzel was delicious and larger than expected. The bartender was friendly and recommended some great seasonals to try. We will definitely be back.

M S.

Yelp
Juanita's exceptional service at this brewery is genuinely remarkable. Her genuine care for customers, combined with her friendly and polite demeanor, creates an unforgettable experience that I highly recommend to anyone visiting the area!
google avatar

Chris K.

Yelp
We stopped in here recently with 4 people and had a pretty disappointing experience. I've been here a half dozen times and it's consistently good. This trip, not so much. They poured flights for us and told us the order, yet they had mixed them up badly and it took us a while to even figure out what we were tasting - complicating ordering of a pint afterwards. We got the burgers, which have been consistently good on previous visits. They were really not good. Small, not as flavorful, fries not very well seasoned. Another person got the pizza, which almost felt undercooked - the bottom was doughy. Seemed like not much care going on with this recent week-night visit.

Luis G.

Yelp
came in today and it was super busy but amazing service. everything came out quick and the vibe was dope!

Jeff C.

Yelp
If you are a fan of Atwater beers, you have to visit their location in Grosse Pointe Park. The establishment occupies the space of a former Church of Christ. This seems to be a bit of a trend for a number of breweries I have visited. The layout and space of the interior is well done. The ambiance reminds me of places in Bavaria I had visited in past years. The beer selection is very good with excellent seasonal selections. Atwater is not one of my favorite brewers, but the do make some excellent brews. The staff and service was amazing, very helpful, and attentive throughout our visit. Perhaps the biggest difference for us in this location versus the Detroit one is the menu. The menu at Atwater in the Park was much more diverse in selections. There were also a number of vegetarian/vegan options for two people in our party that made them much happier in our visit. A great place to visit with friends to talk, eat, and imbibe. Parking is a bit sketchy with limited street parking.

Dora H.

Yelp
The service was bad. Not just once, twice in one month. Not enough wait staff. It seems the brewery can get busy suddenly. Hopefully management can find a way to get more help during crunch time.

Juanita T.

Yelp
Great food amazing beer. I tried each one. The patio is amazing I'll be back. The service was hands down amazing
google avatar

Danielle T.

Yelp
A beautiful old church right downtown that they converted into a brewery! Awesome set up inside with beautiful views no matter where you sit. And they offer outside seating with a outside bar in the summer! Service and beer were great!

Meghan D.

Yelp
Our server, Juanita, was great. Super helpful and patient with all my beer sample requests. Nice and warm atmosphere in Grosse Pointe Park. Highly recommend the city juice, citrus IPA. Get the fries chicken sandwich
google avatar

Sierra C.

Yelp
I mean...look at this pretzel. It's the size of my torso. Kidding. It's pizza size. I love bread.
google avatar

Meridena K.

Yelp
The food was really good, there's lots of choices for various diet reqts etc. this visit tried the fish & chips, and pizza. Really really good! 3 pieces of battered fish, tons of gigantic fries. Pizza was also delish, the crust was very good and arguably the most important, but also the ratio of toppings was good. Weird they put whole olives instead of sliced but not a prob, just had to cut myself to spread it out evenly. ***Warning to families! I had to laugh at this, how can you not, but the music was super loud on the patio and I'm not sure if they were screening it, we got the pleasure of listening to "You Gotta Lick it Before You Stick it" while we were eating if you don't know it, look it up! it was a little weird bc I was with my family, and the guy nearby was rolling his eyes bc he was with his two kids. Maybe not the best choice for early evening... just sayin...

Jackie C.

Yelp
Had such a great date night with the hubby here! Atmosphere is wonderful and service is awesome!! Big fans of Valerie and Charlie and can't wait to come back again!! 10/10!
google avatar

Natasha A.

Yelp
The beer was good, they have a nice selection. I did not prefer the outdoor seating, it's both tight and uncomfortable. The benches aren't bolted down so if you toggle to one side too quickly your basically on a one sided seesaw, very awkward. The pretzel was dope, def recommend that to anyone. It is very large so be sure you're sharing it because alone it is daunting.
google avatar

Anthony F.

Yelp
Great venue in the site of an old church provides unique venue with Indoor and outdoor seating. Never can go wrong with Dirty Blonde Ale for a tasty beverage fromAtwater. Food was much better than most I Read on this site. Had giant pretzel for appetizer with beer cheese and stone ground mustard which I highly recommend. Pretzel with the beer cheese and a little salt Was delicious. It is perfect size for 4 people to share. Whether a vegetarian or not would also highly recommend the Buffalo cauliflower wings with bleu cheese and vegan ranch. Nice amount of spice on the cauliflower paired with the bleu cheese was very tasty. For entrees had the Michigan Salad and vegan chorizo tacos. Both were extremely good and would highly recommend. Only negative is The French fries. They are mediocre at best and would recommend ordering something else if available.

Kym S.

Yelp
My husband, 4yo daughter and I went here at 7:30 on Saturday 1/27/24. We were greeted and a table was cleared for us to sit at. It wasn't very busy. We sat there for 25 minutes without anyone else acknowledging our presence. We left after not even being able to get a drink order in.

Sherri L.

Yelp
They were out of many food and cocktail menu items. I paid the $5 add on for grilled chicken and it was unseasoned canned mushy chicken on a definitely NOT shareable portion of nachos. Spicy chicken sandwich was not spicy and so over-fried it was almost burnt. There are too many other great places with way better food to bother wasting my money there again.
