Atwood Grill

I'm piggybacking off of my husband's review so I can add a picture of our, burnt and overpriced, baked seafood platter. The calamari Naples was drenched in balsamic glaze, which made the calamari soggy. Still, it was better than the main course. The waitress came right over after we were seated to take our drink order. (Here's a tip; it's helpful to at least crack a smile with your customers). We were lucky if we saw her twice after getting our appetizer. I try to take into consideration that the place was busy, (still can't figure out why) but when you have to ask the bus girls and kitchen staff for extra drinks, napkins, and ketchup, your waitress doesn't care. Never had water or bread served either, after being seated. The waitress seemed more concerned with waiting on larger parties. We actually contemplated leaving after we got our app, because service was so poor. I would never go back!! This place is like the Marchettis of Johnston; just full of regulars who have been going here so long, they haven't explored what real, good food tastes like.

Just had an excellent lunch, where we got the stuffed chicken parmigiana and a meatball parmigiana sandwich. The food was excellent, love their plum tomato sauce.

Went in as a family of 4 , 1st time ever being there since I was younger. We ordered 3 chicken franchise and one kid's chicken tender meal and a bottle of wine. Food came out very promptly and was delicious. The only Complaint we had were the chicken tenders were Super greasy but they were very kind and took it off the bill. Cannot believe how inexpensive the chicken was for how delicious it was. I had mine over pasta and cane with two large pieces of chicken. Our bill came to $101 minus the tenders... great meal for a great price!! Will definitely go back:) I will say we went on a Monday and the place was jam-packed tells you how good the food if.

Just ate one of the best chicken cacciatore’s of my life. They have a great menu, and service was excellent.

Came here for dinner, should have read the reviews first. From the time we were seated, to the time we had left, over 2 hours had gone by and we saw the waitress twice. We were served our appetizers at 3 very different times. By the time our main course came out, I was surprised it wasn't cold. I got steak, which was awful. The rest of my party ordered various dishes, ranging from chicken to pasta to prime rib. It was average, at best. Not one worker here cracked a smile the entire time we were seated.

I used to absolutely love this restaurant; I have been going here since I was 12 without any issues. We even held a banquet here for my dad’s 50th. But today was an absolute nightmare. I brought my mom out for a late Mother’s Day lunch. We were promptly seated by the hostess, she was extremely kind but unfortunately that was the only good part about our dining experience. After sitting for almost 15 minutes, our server finally came over to take our drink orders. My mom had a soda water and I had a water. The waitress dropped the waters off at the table and it spilled a good deal of her soda water all over the mat in front of her. I am a waitress myself and accidents do happen but she never apologized and just left immediately without even acknowledging it happening. From there I ordered the bruschetta and it came out burnt in some areas without any balsamic on it like it said in the menu. I asked her for the balsamic and she gave me a regular bottle of balsamic vinegar. Then she came over 10 minutes after appetizers that letting us know that my meal was out of stock. After how the appetizer went I was no longer hungry so I just shared my moms food. All the other tables received bread around us but she never even offered it. It felt like she was discriminating against us from how we were treated. I look young but as a waitress I tip very well when the service is good because I know personally that waitresses live off tips. But I have never received service this poor in my entire life. When the bill came she charged us $8.95 for soda water which had me shocked to say the least. I had to track her down to get it fixed. Once we got the real bill I found out I was charged for endless sodas for her one soda water. It was $3 just for one soda water off a bar soda gun. I work for one of the most expensive restaurants in Rhode Island and our large glass bottles of sparkling water are only $5. I was tired from everything else that happened and we just paid and left. It breaks my heart but I will never go here again after how we were treated.

We are visiting family and friends and stopped here for a bite to eat. They were able to accommodate my husbands food allergies and he was thrilled with the chicken cacciatore dish he had. I had the veal marsala. The portions were large and hearty. So very flavorful. The next time we visit, will happily stop here again.

Horrible experience. Ordered side salad, as described on menu as iceburg lettuce with tomato, etc. i received mixed greens. Waitress shrugged her shoulder and said..we don't have iceber lettuce. Ordered stuffed sirloin over mashed potatoes. Received a soupy mess of overcooked sirloin TOPPED with peppers and artichoke. Nothing was stuffed. Mashed potatoes were mush. Waitress came by and asked"how is everything" and turned and walked away before we could answer. Bar area was very loud and we had difficulty having a conversation without raising our voices to each other. Never again.

I went to Atwood Grill for a retirement party on a Sunday. The restaurant and bar do fill up, but we had a reserved private room for the event. The staff were fantastic, quick, and friendly. The food was also very good. We had salad, pasta, chicken parm, chicken picatta, and roast beef. The drinks from the bar were all great. The salad was excellent, but the pepperoncini tasted very different from what I used to. The roast beef roll ups were also very good because of the sauce they drizzled over it. The red sauce was good and the chicken parm was good (could have used some more melted provolone cheese), chicken picatta was also a hit. There was plenty of food for us to take home at the end.

It was very good. I had a chicken Palm. The sauce was excellent. I recommend this place for everybody.

What an AFFORDABLE lunch! My buddy & I sat at the bar...I got the chicken pot pie special, he got the veal parm & we both were satisfied. The bartender was very welcoming, friendly to all the patrons at the bar or who may have said hello passing by going to a table and was right on top of the whole bar's orders (both food & drink) quickly...very efficient. A nice comfortable setting...it's been a little while since I was last here; but will be coming back more often.

Pleasantly surprised by the quality of the manicotti special and the reasonableness of the price. A bustling afternoon restaurant the nice selection of Italian food. Lots of adult birthday parties, and family events. A good place for a post celebration of life gathering. Would repeat.

We held a funeral luncheon here today. The management and staff went above and beyond. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. Thank you Atwood Grill.

This place is amazing. Fresh, home style authentic Italian dishes at a great price. The service is always outstanding. It's a Johnston RI hidden gem!

We loved this place! Came here for dinner to catch up with friends and we're happy to see such a big and very reasonably priced menu. So many options to choose from! Everything was excellent and our server was friendly and attentive. Will certainly be back soon if in the area again!

I've been eating at Atwood grill since I was a kid. The food is awesome. But closing at 8pm is a huge disappointment. We had just got off a plane and come there and we were turned away. What a missed opportunity and lost revenue. We ended up at Barlino literally right next door. They had a live singer and it was happening. Come on Atwood Grill - you must know there's a competitor right next door! Get it together!

Today I called The Atwood Grill to make a reservation for 8 people for August 20. After being on hold for about 5 minutes, a girl come on the line to take my reservation. She asked me the number of peoples, time of the reservation and then asked if the reservation was for today. I explained that it was for the 20th and she pulled the phone away from her ear and said to someone "I'm dealing with this fucking rude bitch on the phone". Huh? When I questioned her she said she wasn't talking about me but about someone else. Lies! I asked to speak to the manager who apologized for the girl's behavior. NOTE TO OWNER: The 8 of us are now going to Twin Oaks for our meeting. How can you allow such a low life, unqualified person speak with your customers? Needless to say I won't be going back to your restaurant. Maybe you should send this girl for training because she clearly needs help.

I remember eating here awhile back and especially loving the chicken soup. So we decided to go back and try the soup. The soup was good and our waitress was very nice. And that's where the niceties ended. The atmosphere is tired. We tried the pot roast special with mashed potatoes and green beans. While the pot roast did break apart with a fork, it was tasteless, grey and covered in a light brown watery sauce. The mashed potatoes were flavourless too. The worst item on my dish was a mushy plop of canned green beans and a canned piece of artichoke. I tried one bean to confirm. It was repulsive. Another person at the table had mac and cheese with buffalo chicken. It too was mostly inedible. What's with the watery gravy and cheese sauce. Half star is for the chicken soup, the other half, for the nice waitress. My recommendation... keep driving.

Been coming here for years..never had a bad meal..their sole francese is excellent and nobody can beat their prices..their servers are always pleasant and always make sure you have everything you need. Whenever my wufe and I are in the area..ATWOOD GRILL is our go to restaurant.

We are regulars at Atwood Grille . We love it there! Today, as we sat at the end of the bar and we saw it all. Every single person there works their butts off. From the kitchen to the waitstaff and of course the best bartender in RI Gina. And Natalie is an amazing manager! Kudos to the entire staff! We appreciate you all!

No matter what you get at the Atwood Grill the food is always delicious and portions are generous! Service is good and the ambiance if fine. The prices are unbelievably low!

This was the first time I had been here in many years. The food is still phenomenal! I enjoyed a large portion of Chicken Gorgonzola, which was extremely tasty, indeed. Our waitress was absolutely lovely, and the entire experience was fantastic. I can't wait to return!!!!

I have driven past this restaurant and it's always packed! I had a visit with a friend tonight, and it was a great choice for a Monday night dinner. They made an exceptional Manhattan and our food was delicious. I highly recommend this place!

Out with a group of friends and had to endure FOX news on every TV screen in the place. Totally tacky. Never go here again.

To the owner's of Atwood Grill !!!! We are here weekly. Today we sat at the end of the bar and was able to see all these amazing people work there asses off !!!! Everyone has been telling me to try this little hidden gem but Everytime we tried to go, there was a substantial wait. NOW I KNOW WHY. The food was amazing and the portions were ridiculous. I could only finish half my meal of Lasagna and was stuffed. Just the right ratio of meat to Ricotta cheese and tomato gravy to make it extra enjoyable. My wife had the blackened Chicken Alfredo and she wholeheartedly enjoyed it. I would recommend everyone try them at least once but I guarantee you will go back again and again. I know I will.

I see WHY this place is ALWAYS packed! The food is delicious and the lunch menu is reasonably priced. If you haven't dined here, it's a must. I've been a few times over the years and it's always been delicious. Masks are not required. No outside seating. Well staffed (and they are friendly).

The outside doesn't look appealing. I decided to check the area out after my appointment. I always past by this place. Today was the day to see if this place was a place to visit or check out. You see a lot of cars so you tell that it's a local joint. I walked and guess what. It was a local joint where everyone knew each other. A lot of an older crowd. The hostess was very informative and nice. I took a seat at the bar. They do have partition that extends past the bar table. VERY PLEASED. I ordered the "Chef Francaise Special. Swordfish, grilled asparagus over a bed of mashed potatoes with a lemon and caper sauce. It was good. Overall, it was not bad as I expected. I would come back.

A great day for a bite and a beer, I came across the Atwood Grill. The rating is under rated. The Godfather was awesome. Food was quick, drinks are stiff , staff very friendly. Waitress was on the money. You have to least give it a shot! Prices are very reasonable. Definitely be back!

Please read the owners response to my constructive review of the bad meal we had to endure at this establishment. Extremely Unprofessional Meh Another great example of a local legend frequented by an older crowd of locals with taste bud issues. Your told how great a spot is and visit and find out in reality it's a 5 out of 10 for food. You then get mesmerized by a portion that could feed 3 people, but you here from locals what a great deal it is. So you pay 12 bucks for a big plate of mediocre food when you could spend 16 bucks at a better place on a smaller but much better flavored dish of food. Here's the details: Ordered a Blackened Chicken Alfredo dish and my wife ordered a steak sandwich. Her sandwich was a 5 out of 10, but where this really went wrong is my dish. Chicken Alfredo made with what ended up being completely unflavored vodka like sauce. There was nothing Alfredo about it. It was about a 3 out of 10 dish, just no seasoning. I know this place is a bit of an institution in the area and is always packed. I am still trying to figure out why, but I think I already know. Tip: They do have different food and drink deals each day and lunch specials as well. Not sure if we'll be back but if we do we'll definitely try a special and hopefully it turns out well. Thanks

This place was definitely filled with some regulars at the bar. It had a nice atmosphere, the waitress was nice. We got the bruschetta and it was the best I've had. I got chicken parmigiana & it was alright. My boyfriend got the chicken saltimbocca and he enjoyed it. I'd go back for the bruschetta that's for sure.

Had a terrible experience for a late dinner, last Friday, Dec 9. My boyfriend and I had ordered at 8:42pm, he had seafood pasta with the white chowder. I tasted one scallop and said it tasted fishy and didn't want more. He ate about 25% of his dinner and didn't want anymore. His stomach was upset before he left and was deathly ill, all night from food poisoning from the seafood. We immediately called the next morning to complain. Mark the GM, said he will escalate to owner. We called again Dec 12 because we didn't hear from anyone - spoke with Nicole (?) and she was rude, dismissive and wanted documentation that he was sick. I expected a refund 100% plus an apology. Nothing more, nothing less. Terrible food, bad atmosphere, awful customer service, will never return.

You can't go wrong with this place!! Prices are so affordable and the food is great! You can ask to my 5 year old who is super picky but he loves this place. Specials are always good, nice selection of beers on tap super friendly staff. Tuesday's you buy a mega margarita or 24oz beer and you get an small appetizer. We usually go on Tuesdays and it's out the door so if you have a party of six or more make sure you call to reserve a table

Service was good, along with the food. Prices are fair with good specials. Atmosphere was a bit more rambunctious with dishes slamming and loud debates. Overall 3.8/5

I have not been here for a while because last time food was late coming out. This time it took 55 minutes to get our food the wife's food was nice and hot. While My order was cold which made the chicken a chewy consistency , I couldn't eat it.

As soon as you walk into this restaurant you get a whiff of bathroom odors in the waiting area and in the bathroom hallway. It smelled like a mens urinal. Not ok!!!! Tonight the odor was so strong it was unbearable to use the restroom. Definitely has a plumbing issue or an overflow into the restaurant. The food was great!!! Please fix this problem. Been dining here for over 20 years and never had a complaint. This issue is horrendous for all of our 8 guests who joined us that never ate here. I had to apologize repeatedly. I was in for dinner with my elementary school classmates reunion dinner 2 weeks ago and the issue was the same that night, horrible odor at the front entrance, waiting area and bathroom area.

I've been to the Atwood Grill a few times. The first few times the food and service was great. This last time I had the waitress from hell. She is in the wrong line of work. I think her name was Gabby. She acted like she would rather be anywhere but there. Very rude and impatient with my elderly mother. The food is good but not good enough to make me want to go back for lousy service.

Diner feel, Very busy fast paced restaurant.. Delicious Italian comfort food... worth a dinner out but don't expect the warm and fuzzies from the wait staff.

Exellent appetizers! Salads very good! Main course's were average . Very busy restaurant. Service was excellent! We shall return , next time we're in Johnston, RI.

Try taking a Cranston or Johnston cat out for lunch on a Tuesday... let's try sushi - No? Ahhhh....Indian Food - No? Ahhh Mexican - Nope? How about Italian? The answer will be yes 9/10 times. People in this area have lots of Italian roots. This also means lots and lots of great Italian options in the area. Atwood Grill is a great lunch option - their menu is HUGE. It's almost overwhelming, but at least you have many options if you are picky. They have specials, pitchers of Sangria, great beers on tap. No complaints! Last time I had the Blackened Chicken Alfredo. The serving was awesomely large - it has that home cooking kind of feel to it. I was able to get three meals out of one serving. The chicken was juicy, perfectly seasoned and with a tiny bit of a kick. It was SO good. I need to learn how to make it because I can see it be awesome on a salad or on pretty much anything....The sauce was also good. It's pink not white Alfredo sauce. It is not something I would normally expect. The waitress warned me that it is made with white and red sauce and that they also have the white sauce, but recommended the pink. I trusted the suggestion and rolled the dice. I wish the sauce was a bit more seasoned but with a bit of salt, pepper it was fine. At home I did add a bit of garlic to it. Either way, it was good. It has a very "local eatery" feel to it, and attracts the older crowd for the most part. I am willing to come back and try it again for sure. The service was quick, drinks cold and food was good. My only suggestion is that the place needs a bit on a face-lift - just needs to be refreshed. It looks outdated. Definitely new booths, tables and chairs. It's a bit dark and gloomy with plastic covers on tables. It's clean, so no complaints there - just a fresher, more comfortable seating.

Atwood Grill is another place I frequent because they have consistent good food and the portion sizes are amazing. You can't go wrong with the chicken Parmesan here- it's always great. The prices are pretty good too considering the average price you pay. I also say they make great drinks- and this is coming from someone who drinks no more than 10 alcoholic drinks a year- so kudos to the bartender! My only complaint would be the take out situation. I get take out from here quite often and there is literally nowhere to throw myself because this place is always so busy & you have to go to the bar to get it. They should change the setup to the hostess getting it for you or something because half the time I'm getting in the waitress' way and I have to stand and wait for 10-15m- so seriously not a big deal at all.

We ordered take out from here today. Food was delivered hot and my fries were not soggy which is hard to do when getting take out. My husband got the Buffalo Mac and Cheese. The pasta was well cooked the cheese sauce was rich and tasty we will definitely be ordering that again! I got the chicken parm sandwich and fries which was good, juicy and a good sauce bread cheese chicken ratio in my opinion ha ha. My husband loved his wings from here also and stated he'd get those again for sure. We also got the Mozzarella wedges which we weren't fond of. They were cooked fine but didn't taste great. Definitely a place we will continue to order from or even go in person!

Maybe it was what I ordered, but I have to say it was the saddest and most bland steak I had in a while.it was swimming in the "sauce", I could not even taste any flavors. In addition, the side of pasta was also pretty flavorless. The only thing I liked about this place was their cool sign outside. Even the staff gave such an unwelcoming vibe.

Great first time eating here ! Loved the energy & the staff were amazing even at closing time! Didn't feel rushed & the food came out just as good as it would if we were the first ones in!

Was here twice, totally wish I didn't have to be here for the second time, was brought here on the first visit. Slow service, very unprofessional and I hope to never come back. I ordered a cheeseburger medium rare, I was corrected, so I wanted a hamburger with cheese? I wrote this cause Rhodie-speak can be peculiar at times, this one took the cabinet. anyway, we were gathered under not the best terms and had the big room prior to when they opened for lunch, as the staff came in they were VERY LOUD and VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! left a VERY unpleasant taste, but then again, im not planning on ever going back, so really, they dont have to change for me, but if you were planning on a gathering, maybe think twice.

Decent food, good service. Near the bar, it is quite noisy. I would come back. Prices reasonable.

Delicious food, great service always, decent wait time, very clean and family / date atmosphere. Loving the special and the easy to read very descriptive menu. Drink specials are amazing. Always a good experience ! Always something new to try ! & always a return from me !

My family and I go here often. They have good food at very reasonable prices and the portions are big. This is a great family friendly neighborhood style restaurant. Staff is friendly and attentive. My boys love the raviolis and I would recommend the godmother sandwich or any of the pasta entrees. They have great specials too!

I've been coming here for years. Great food! Great prices! Huge portions! They def give you enough to take home. On this visit I had the eggplant rollatini and my hubby had the boom boom burger. First we started out with garden salads, their homemade Blu cheese dressing is delicious! As well as their pink cream sauce. Only complaint, he asked for his burger to be cooked medium and it was cooked medium well. I guess that's what happens when you come to a place that serves Italian food. If you have never been, you should try it at least once!

Saw the busboys walk by us shaking their head and ignoring us. They close at 9, and we got there at 8:53. Finally acknowledged by a waitress or the manager(not sure), who said they were closed. I said we had been at the host stand waiting to be sat for several minutes. She argued with me about how long I had been there. I stated great customer service, and left hungry!

The most "Johnston" restaurant around. You don't expect much from this place just looking at it you can tell, but the menu, at first glance, looks appealing. The food however is tasteless. Literally everything on the menu is as if someone removed your tastebuds and you're just eating to eat. Have they ever heard of seasoning? I got the baked stuffed shrimp, expectations weren't high and they still managed to disappoint. I can say I've been here twice and this will certainly be the last time. Also you forgot our salads which i would be more upset about however it would've probably been terrible anyway.

Horrible experience. Bad service from the server Abby and the manager ( short hair with glasses, didn't get her name) was not helpful at all. Will never go back and will tell everyone not to go there.

Used to be a 5. The food is always consistently good. However on my last visit having a having a pasta dish I asked for some.more parmesan cheese.. My guest who was having chicken pot pie asked for cranberry sauce. What a surprise when on the bill we recharged $1 for parmesan cheese and $1 For cranberry sauce. This is such a surprise for a restaurant that has always been good. For an additional charge like this Guests should be informed up front. It just seemed very low class for the restaurant to charge for shredded parmesan and cranberry sauce.

Imagine having a food allergy it being your birthday and Laura telling you she REFUSED to ask the manager to substitute something that won't kill me if I eat it. PEOPLE WITH FOOD ALLERGIES WANT TO LIVE TOO. I make plenty of meals at home but today was a special day. I have never been to this establishment but figured it is a VERY OLD DINER and wouldn't have an issue. Laura was snark in the wrong line of business and never should work with people. I'll his place is made me so uncomfortable and placed food in front of my husband and let me watch on my birthday because they refused to slightly alter a meal to not be a allergic meal. I am so embarrassed!!!!
