The Best Vietnamese Restaurants for Pho in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Au 14 might be the only Vietnamese restaurant in the city serving duck pho, featuring a meaty, sweet-and-savoury broth kicked up a level with star anise. Those looking for something more nutritionally balances can add seasonal veggies to the soup for $1.50."

Very tasty food in a family style restaurant. Don't miss it behind all the plants in the window. Generous portions for good prices.

You can’t go wrong at Au 14. It’s casual, friendly and the quality of the food for the price cannot be beat! Obviously the pho is the way to go! But give me a bowl of vermicelli and grilled pork any day! And get the spring rolls, regular or vegetarian are great. They don’t fall apart! And that being said, it’s the perfect spot for groups and lots of vegetarian options.

I haven't tried every restaurant within walking distance from work, but I can safely say that Au 14 is going to be hard to beat. I'm no expert in Thai food, but I know delicious, and they serve it here. I tried the rice noodle salad with broth on the side, it looked exactly like the online menu pic, and tasted as good as I imagined it would. I ordered in advance so pick up was fast and easy. Came to about 17$ with tax and tip, and they threw in a little dessert and a fortune cookie. I've been to cheaper Thai places, but they weren't as good. Perfect comfort food for a dreary day.

Good spring roll and papaya salad, though the pho is disappointing. It's not a traditional pho - no option for beef brisket, tripe, etc., and the beef arrived already cooked and not rare. Am curious to try their non-pho dishes. Service was nice and attentive.

Food here literally brought me back to the north of Vietnam. The family here have recreated something I haven’t been able to find in Vancouver where I live.

We started going there in 1992, it was amazing food, friendly service, went an avarage three times a week as I lived practically next it. We got to know the family, used to have great talks after closing. As they say nothing last for ever. I went few times since the family is not running it, what can I say, huge disappointment, run by young arrarrogant not the least friendly, not even Vietnamese girls. Too bad, we used to love this place. By the way the food is still good as the kitchen is run by the same family members. The atmosphere is not good. Usually almost empty, few tables have customers, well there is reason for that. They better figure it out before it is too late.

The ladies were amazing, they were family oriented which gave an instant feeling of being home. I was recommended the bun bo hue as their most popular item. I thought it was extremely flavourful and not as heavy which is great if you’re wanting a cleaner version of generally an oilier broth that would put you in a food coma after. The fortune cookie at the end was also a treat!

Google
Amazing comfort Vietnamese food with many options from soup to spring bowl and rice plates. Absolutely in love with their recent additions to the menu, especially the “hu tiu kho” - super nice if you cannot decide between a soup or a mixed vermicelle bowl (it is BOTH!!!). Friendly and efficient staffs!

Yelp
The food was delicious. The waiters and waitresses are very nice and speak multiple languages. The design of the restaurant was very nice and traditional. It has a homey feel to it and a nice family owned kitchen. Over all, it was a very nice restaurant!

Yelp
I've been walking past this spot for years but never noticed the restaurant. Finally came by and tried some Vietnamese food! The restaurant is large and seating is very spacious. It was a little busy on a weeknight with only one server but she was very efficient. I came primarily to try the banh khot because I've haven't seen it elsewhere. I expected it to look a bit different but it was tasty nonetheless. I also got the hu tiu kho, which was a dry noodle dish with broth on the side. There was lots of delicious toppings and the broth was great with the noodles. I took a sip of the bun bo hue broth and it was good too. My friends got the crispy pork and the tofu vegetable caramel bowl. Those dishes looked meh, I would recommend getting their specialty vietnamese items instead.

Yelp
I love the food here. The staff are lovely. Keep it to yourselves, I don't want it to get too busy. LOL

Yelp
Came in with high expectations because of the reviews, but was tragically let down. I'm judging this place as a pho restaurant. The pho broth is really watery and they don't put many noodles. Don't let the price (~$9 before tax and tip) fool you, you're paying for essentially a small at any other pho place. They don't give you deep spoons to drink the broth with, which is terrible for a Vietnamese restaurant that serves pho I also had the spring roll, which was $3.5 for a single roll. The restaurant decor is nice and the service is fine, but the quality of the food was an extreme let down overall I was extremely disappointed and wouldn't recommend you go here if you're looking for authentic pho

Yelp
It's the best Asian style food with reasonable prices I've ever had in Montreal. Friendly service and cozy environment served with delicious and healthy food. Papaya salad was quite yummy. Fortune cookies were interesting.

Yelp
There were only four reviews and all of them were 5 star reviews. Unfortunately, the taste and service of the restaurant were absolutely not a five star. In particular, the taste of the noodle soup is not very good. Not worth. I regret my decisions to visit this place.

Yelp
I've been going to this restaurant for years! Great mom and pop Vietnamese restaurant! Prices are super cheap! Service is great! Food is yummy and comes out quickly! Anytime I'm in the neighbourhood I always pass by for a soup! Definitely a great place for lunch and a quick dinner!

Yelp
Really good, lovely food, it is definitely making Vietnamese food in Montreal great again! One of the better Vietnamese restaurants in Montreal with a great atmosphere, the service was very friendly and welcoming. The value of the food is a 5 out of 5. Since I live very close to this restaurant, would definitely be coming back soon. The quality of food is fantastic, one of the best in town for the price. If y'all been following me with my adventures in trying to find the best Vietnamese food in Montreal, I recommend this one. I'm one of the only qualified Vietnamese cuisine reviewer in town as well as in the world. This one is absolutely wonderful. Good price! Good Food! I'm not joking!

Yelp
We had the best meal at this restaurant last night. For starters we had the dried beef and the Imperial Rolls which were excellent. Then we had Cantonese noodles with chicken beef and vegetables. The taste was divine! We also had a side portion of rice which was also very good. We asked for some caramel chicken sauce on the side to put on our main dish. Delicious! We ordered a few Sapporo beers to wash it all down with. We were very pleased with the whole experience. We've been coming here for 24 years and it's always great.

Yelp
Best vietnamese food in town hands down! Great ambiance and service. Everything on their menu is super delicious, soups, fried rolls, salads, everything! And at a reasonable price.

Yelp
Looks awful, tastes awful, small quantities. I've been taking out from there as a last resort sometimes out of convenience since it was right next to my place but it's the last time and I will never return. The food is Viet which is very simple cuisine from the gecko (Not like some other asian cuisines which require more spices and preparation) but this is Not what Vietnamese cuisine looks or tastes like. I have tried many different things on the menu and here is a list of reasons not to go there: -small portions : the fried chicken plate is basically a galette of fried batter put on top of 3 leaves of salad next to a tea spoon of rice -the "dumplings" have no filling inside (XXXsmall piece of shrimp like if you take a shrimp and cut it in 6 and then put one piece and cover it with dough) -they charge you extra for utensils -they will charge extra for sauce if you order a spring roll if you mind to ask but if you don't ask them they wont even bother putting any sauce. (Like foreal??) -the soup tastes and looks like vegetables in boiled water -the place is ALWAYS empty -the place stinks -my great grand mother has a better taste for interior design -the staff is rude and make you feel unwelcome (looks like your interrupting some meeting every time you walk in since they are always sitting at the table next to the cash) After trying all the menu, I have to admit that there was nothing good there and plus the place is a shit whole

Yelp
Between the name and appearance of this place, one might think it is nothing special. One would be quite surprised: the food is impressively tasty, the prices are fair, the service is friendly and multi-lingual (and not inconvenienced to exercise it), and the place appears to be so unpopular that there is always plenty of seating for groups. It's rather unclear (to me) what style of 'Asian' food is being served, exactly, but it is all quite good and there are plenty of veg options. There is also a large television playing classic cartoons - what a strange but excellent little restaurant! My only complaint is that in four visits, I have had one very long wait.
