Portions are very over priced. There is no grill so everything is packaged food. Fresh items are the cookies and anything with bread like cream cheese bagel, etc. They still have steak wraps from 2 days ago in the refrigerator. So be careful about anything in the fridge area. I wish they offered discounts for hospital staff since it’s in the basement of the hospital and overcharging.

Martin went above and beyond to fulfill my order! I love the Jalapeno Cheddar bagels and there's no more Au Bon Pain stores around so I called the store and asked him to hold 8 for me. He kept in touch and made sure he would have it ready for this day. He gave me hot and fresh ones and a ton of spreads! Thanks again for your service and fulfilling my request!

I am a long time dyalsis patient and get my dyalsis at Elmhurst hospital where in the basement Au bon pain has a cafe .three times a week before going to dyalsis I came here and get two toasted bagels . Today as usual I came ordered the two toasted sasme bagel with jelly and stand waited . I had no idea who fell on me a black guy who had a hospital ID hanging his neck hold me and help me standing holding . I was shivering I was also wondering why I am shivering so bad . He asked are you ok . Can you stand by yourself I was feeling a little pinch in my hip which was unusual .I stand and looked at the guy who feel on me he was a employee here at au bon pain .he said he is sorry he slipped because the floor was wet it's not his fault and he try to hold me so I don't fell face down . As I already paid for the bagels I told the manager ( a Pakistani guy ) that I already paid you I am leaving he was busy as usual and didn't give a dam ( could be checked on cameras all that incident time was 2:00 pm . This is a lopsided review. I've always liked Au Bon Pain so it pains me to have to give a negative review. I was at my dialysis session and had a friend of mine order lunch for me. I text her the following: Green tea (lots of honey), a Caprese with chicken sandwich and a palmier cookie. After she dropped it off, and having a bit of tea I unwrapped the sandwich and took bite. There was no mozzarella, tomato, arugula, or pesto. This is not a Caprese Sandwich (I said to myself). It's those ingredients that actually makes it a Caprese. So I decided to hold off (after one bite) and would take it back for what I asked for. After showing them my text, the cashier and woman behind the counter said the young lady that put in the order asked for a chicken sandwich and would not replace my order. I thought this was a bit rediculous since I'm not the one that made the mistake and thought they should honor my request (after all I've been a loyal customer for all the seven years I've been on dialysis). I was about go, leaving the sandwich right where I placed it on the counter. They decided to redress the sandwich with arugula and tomatoes and wrapped it back up. I was like, that's still not a Caprese without pesto or mozzarella. They just glared at me. I just grabbed it and left. It's going to be a treat for my lovely pet when I get home. Last time I frequent this location of Au Bon Pain, with an emphasis on PAIN here 😔 ‼️

I often buy sandwiches here for lunch, but I had a bad experience here today. I was ordering a caramel macchiato without milk, and the man behind the counter said in a sarcastic way that they don’t make caramel macchiato without milk and addded that macchiato is always made with milk. Is it hard for him not to put milk on it? Like what I ask from Dunkin Donuts and they just put sweetener or vanilla cream? You have to teach this employee of yours some costumer service manners.

I love this bakery! I had to undergo a mental therapy program for a few weeks or so 2 months and I always went here after I ate. The BLT is so good and they always toast it to perfection. The cheddar broccoli soup is to die for and so is the strawberry lemonade! You should definitely go here if you want a afternoon snack or brunch/lunch! This place isnt usually packed and full of delights from pastries to fully loaded sandwiches! Also, when there was a romaine lettuce outbreak, they acted quickly and used other produce like arugula! I love it here and I can’t wait to come back and have a snack!

The annoying moment when they put regular onions instead of pickled onions, and keep doing it every other time and not even tell you. Burned my baguette as well.

Yelp
Located in the basement of Elmhurst Hospital... bit scary going all the way over there when it's late and nobody is around. I really wanted a croissant and I didn't care how weird it was going into a hospital for a pastry. Brought it all the way home to enjoy it and it was pretty good. Thought it would be stale since there wasn't much to select from and it was so late in the evening but it was soft, buttery... Went there earlier in the day, better selection but not by much. Croissant was good but not as good as P's... P uses higher quality chocolate in comparison.

Yelp
I've been coming here ever since my post surgery care began in October 2018. Usually I get just coffee while my mom will get a muffin before my appointment. I'm surprised that there is no regular cafeteria. On top of that there is a sign posted about no outside food or drink. I get the reason but where is the lowly orderly or intern supposed to eat if she brought her meal from home? Yesterday was the first time I got anything but coffee from here. There are no prices posted for the coffee, soups, salads or sandwiches. I got a chicken Caesar salad wrap. The medium coffee and wrap came to a total of $10.20. It was a whole wheat wrap with chicken , mixed greens instead of just romaine lettuce and Caesar salad dressing with anchovies. I didn't really notice cheese.

Yelp
Grabbed a quick lunch here while waiting for chart rounds to start. It's 24/7 and in the basement. I'm used to hospitals having cafeterias, but I've learned that not all hospitals are spoiled. I purused around the shop. A bit on the expensive side, but oh well. The pastries looked delicious, but I was able to restrain myself. I love how they show you the calorie estimates. They had about 8 pots of different soups out. Premade salads and wraps in the fridge section. ORDER - Vegetable medley soup: not salty at all, which was great! It had green beans, carrots, bell pepper, onions, tomato, etc. Definitely warmed me up bc hospitals are always frigid The service was good. Only 1/2 cashier registers open, but the place is pretty small. Seating area is small too, but I was able to find a place to sit by myself. Lots of nurse students reviewing study material and doctors grabbing a quick bit to eat.

Yelp
The baked goods are very good. Try the chocolate croissant and the blueberry muffin which is topped with a nice, crunchy turbinado sugar. The salads kind of skeeve me; the meats taste like processed, government meat you would be served in prison. And the salads are always over saturated with too much dressing. Soups are just ok: if it's cold out and you are desperate for some hot soup, the chicken noodle and pasta fragioli are decent... Coffee is strong and always tastes bitter to me. Stick with tea & honey and one of the bakery items if you must go. and by the way......just because I know how to say "Fermez la bouche" doesn't make me any more French than "Au bon pain" giving itself a French name and trying to market itself as a french cafe.

Yelp
i came in search of a breakfast sandwich and i found one, a really good one. since i hadn't been back in nyc for quite some time, i'd forgotten how good au bon pain is. this au bon pain is in the basement of the elmhurst hospital, so you won't be able to see it walking down on broadway. it was semi-crowded when i went, since it was the morning rush and i'm sure all of the hospital staff wanted to get their breakfast fix before the day got too busy. however, most of them grabbed food and left, so there were many tables & seats available. their newest breakfast offering is an egg white/avocado/swiss cheese bagel sandwich, so i decided to try it (note that i chose the onion dill bagel instead of the plain bagel). this was a powerful protein combo which i appreciated since i had a long day ahead of me. each ingredient was very tasty and i left feeling full and satisfied, and ready to seize the day! $4.43 was a little on the high side for this breakfast sandwich, but it was very good and i would order this again next time.

Yelp
Au Bon Pain replaced what was a McDonald's in the basement of Elmhurst Hospital Center. Originally the space was occupied by a very standard and b-flat cafeteria that made, among other things, the best stewed tomatoes I've ever had prior to the passing of my grandmother. However the cafeteria was a big money loser so then-mayor Giuliani ripped it out and replaced it, with typical profit-making Republican zeal (and I'm a Republican, by the way) with a McDonald's which was definitely more than a few culinary steps backwards compared to the old cafeteria. We then got our current mayor, who a friend of mine calls "Let 'em eat cake Bloomberg" and he gave us the healthier and obviously more expensive Au Bon Pain. Yeah, you won't see many Medicaid patients in here as you did with the McDonald's; I don't know whether this would be an issue of the higher prices or perhaps of the average McDonald's fan shunning Au Bon Pain-type fare; the place is more typically patronized almost exclusively by hospital employees and by those in the neighborhood that know that this place is there; this is one of the few places in the area where you can get unequivocally really healthy food choices but you do, obviously, have to pay for it.

Yelp
In the morning, they have a bagel and coffee special for $2.99. I always enjoyed the au bon pain bagel, but I think I get so much more if I just go outside to Esparks. It just gets so cold in the winter. Everything served at this Au Bon Pain meets every good standard you would expect from the chain. Prices are as usual high but at least there is more seating than I am used to at other hospital ABPs.

Yelp
Dropped by this 24-hour Elmhurst Hospital location for a free Chicken Cobb avocado. Pretty disorganized from when you enter the building until when you pay at one of the random registers they decide to have open (no communication or signage).

Yelp
I cant lie, I try to not buy from here simply because they are over priced and the portions get smaller and smaller. If you look at the cookies, instead of being a full circle like most, they are actually half moon cookies (I mean really now?). The soups are not as good as they used to be and the selections have dropped from 8 to just 4. And most recently, they seem to have become vegetarian only. Not sure if its just the monthly theme or not, but I have been downstairs 3 times this month and nothing peaked my interest in the soup department because of the options. The salads still remain to be the best part of this location. They are pretty fresh and tasty. Still one of the best parts is creating your own salad. The made to order breakfast croissants are a bit blah, small and pricey. for close to 4 dollars, you really dont get much. You can just go across the street or any other location and get a whole breakfast sandwich for the same price or less. I enjoy Au Bon Pain, but this location just doesnt do it for me.

Yelp
Prices are high, portions are small, but taste is good. I am also pleased with their coffee. Very crowded space, order counter is right in the front near the cashiers and near the entranceway- place becomes confusing fast as people topple over one another. they overcharge for everything. Prices at the register don't match price on the sign-I don't want to complain over a dime, but it seems unethical to charge every person ordering a large soup an extra dime every day. Also, I would get the same breakfast or lunch item every day- and pay the same price months on end- and then all of the sudden out of nowhere they charge me extra, in some cases double the price I was paying- for no reason. Prices on the signs have not changed. It just depends on who is working that day. As a customer, I feel taken advantage of. If I try to fight it, it creates a scene, holds up the line, and inconveniences those customers around me.

Yelp
This is an OK place to come for breakfast or lunch. It's located in the basement level of the Elmhurst Hospital Center and is open 24/7. It couldn't be more convenient if you're at the hospital for any reason. We often have breakfast trays for meetings at the hospital which are a good variety of pastries and bagels. And the coffee is pretty good too. My favorite pastries are the chocolate and almond croissants. The chocolate ones are perfect; the almond croissants have a jelly-like almond filling which is too sugary, but if you take out some of the filling they taste very good. Bagels are better than average. I've had their make-your-own salads for lunch, and those are good but not great. Today, I had a mixed greens salad topped with black beans, corn, tomatoes, edamame, and carrots. I had wanted asparagus as well, but they were out. I added yogurt avocado dressing which was decent but not the best. Overall, it was a good salad but not quite worth the $7 price tag. They do accept coupons, though, so if you sign up for their email list, they send them every few weeks. It could save you a few $$.

Yelp
this is in the basement of Elmhurst Hospital. this place replaces McDonalds. they have breakfast sandwiches made to order. they have sandwiches made to order. they have good soup and stew. they have good danishes, cookies and muffins.

Yelp
I came in with my friend for a free coffee and bagel. There was nobody else in here. They took my coupon and went to the back to ask everyone if it was okay. They gave me my free food; I went to go eat with my friend. My friend and I shared my bagel and after we finished, she wanted some coffee for herself. So we got up to go look for the coffee she wanted and the head worker yelled at us for looking. There was nobody else in the restaurant and he said "get out, you've already ate. You're taking up space. What are you trying to do?"
