"The soul of a winstub... and all the flavours of the region lovingly presented: blue trout, venison steak with sauce grand veneur, kirsch mousse etc. The same spirit is mirrored in the decor: lots of wood panelling and two ""stuben"": rustic rooms that are typical of the region. Finally, a special mention for the absolutely exemplary service. " - Michelin Inspector

The food was excellent. But if you don't like to order water or wine with your diner and you're not a hotel guest, you will be ignored for the rest of time and wont get any attention. At sometime the personnel was even rude. And on top of that we had to wait for half an hour to get the bill (while ask for it 4 times). We were on the edges of just walking away without paying. The day before we had some drinks on the terrace. The lady that waitered us was very kind and worked very hard. That's why we decided to go for diner the next day. Wrong choice, though the food was great, it was a waste of money. Personnel and surely the hostess should learn from waitress how to treat guests!!!

I stayed for 1 night and had an amazing dinner, the pool was nice and everyone was very friendly. I highly recommend! And the prices are very reasonable.

I stayed at the Au Cheval Blanc with my husband and two boys for two nights in July 2019. We were there for a family event and thirteen other relatives of ours were staying at the hotel, including four other children. ||We had a family room which consisted of two bedrooms and a bathroom. It was not very spacious and equipped with neither coffee/tea maker nor A/C. The latter would have been needed as the weather was quite hot and the room got very stuffy. The bed was very soft and I got the feeling that it was sloping towards the middle, so not terribly comfortable. The only toiletries provided were soap and body wash. In other words the room wasn’t great, but the rest of the hotel was better. The place was very child friendly with a good-sized pool, a newly build playground (which unfortunately couldn’t be used yet, but it must have been a matter of days) and a mini golf course. We had great fun doing a little tournament on the latter and thought the different holes were quite inventive and fun to play. We had to skip one hole, though, as the tube the ball was supposed to go through was broken. This should be fixed. There were a sauna, a spa, and a playroom with a pool table and board games as well.||We all had dinner twice at the hotel’s restaurant. The food was very good. Starters, main courses and deserts were all delicious and of excellent quality. Breakfast was a different matter. Choices were very limited: just bread, cheese, cold cuts, and jams, some fruit, yoghurt, cereals, and boiled eggs. If you wanted to order fried or scrambled eggs it cost extra. ||The service wasn’t that great, either. The servers in the restaurant seemed at bit confused at times. Replenishing of the breakfast buffet was very slow. We ran out of body wash in our room on the second day and it wasn’t replenished. For breakfast the second day we were given a table that was definitely too small for all of us. We would have had to sit on each other’s laps. So four of our group sat down at another table, only to be told by the server that they couldn’t sit there as the table had been set for other guests. They were allowed to take their plates and cups over to another table that hadn’t been set after some arguing with the server. This was definitely not customer friendly!||All in all, we did have a good time at the hotel as we didn’t spend much time in our rooms and weren’t that bothered by the hit-and-miss service. There is room for improvement, though.

This is a gem, hidden off the beaten track. The hotel room was extremely comfortable, offering all that you might need. Set in a lovely valley, it was quiet and offered lovely walks enhanced by the autumn colours. The dinner was delicious, as was the breakfast. The service was friendly. Our only disappointment was that it is so off the beaten track that it took us a lot longer to reach our destination. But that was bad planning on our part. We would gladly visit again, especially to explore the Maginot Line as well as other historic sites in the area.

We visited this restaurant to celebrate my wife’s big birthday with friends.||We enjoyed the gourmet tasting menu and I think I counted 8 courses, each a very simple masterpiece of flavour. Service was down to earth and friendly with French, German and a little English spoken.||Watch out for the “Chariot de Dessert”, very dangerous if you have a propensity to put on a pound or two.||I would rate the meal as one of the top 5 I have ever eaten!||If your are near by you must go

We visited this hotel on a half board basis for two days on our way to Italy and loved it so much that we had to return for an additional night coming back from Italy again. If you do visit this place, make sure to each there as well!!||||Hotel and rooms||The first time we stayed in a two-room apartment which was really nice and new. We would ask for this if we return. On the second stay, we could only get double rooms which were older looking but still satisfactory.||The hotel has a small pool - it is smaller than it looks in the Photos, but very nice. And it was peaceful to lie by the pool with surrounding garden.||||Restaurant||The food they make here is absolutely amazing, and there is plenty of it. Most of it is made from local groceries. And the wines are equally fantastic and the waiters are very good at helping choosing the right one for the food.||||Surroundings||The hotel lies in a very little and charming village in the mountains with forest all around. There are plenty of hiking trails. ||For the ones interested in history, there is the Maginot line and the even older castle ruins.

Reserved 6 nights on demi pension to be told on the first night that we could not eat on the terrace and had to eat between 7-7:30 pm in the breakfast dining area- not as a la carte guests and other diners on the terrace or in the main dining areas ( and dine at any time). Not dealt with well by the hotel. We were not aware until our arrival and it was disappointing. Dined a la carte on the first night so we could eat outside. Excellent food and ambience.Wine is reasonably priced.Other nights tried demi pension inside- no choiuce of menu unlike other hotels experienced but what we had was VERY nice. Our room was not big but adequate and it overlooked the pool. It would have been good to have a fan and tea/coffee making in the room.Furnishings;linen etc of good quality. The bathroom was fine and the walk in shower excellent. All staff very friendly and efficient. The pool was great on the very hot days we were there and could usually get a sun lounger- pool towels provided. There was also a pool table and other activities. They even have a resident boar and chickens.Neidersteinbach is well placed to visit other places such as Wissembourg as well as wine cellars. The village is small and quiet but with walks in the village and in the surrounding area.

Lovely old inn in a very quiet village close to the border with Germany. Very much a family affair. Very friendly. Good rooms. Small but comfortable. Excellent food both dinner and breakfast. Brilliant wine list
