I stayed at the Au Cheval Blanc with my husband and two boys for two nights in July 2019. We were there for a family event and thirteen other relatives of ours were staying at the hotel, including four other children. ||We had a family room which consisted of two bedrooms and a bathroom. It was not very spacious and equipped with neither coffee/tea maker nor A/C. The latter would have been needed as the weather was quite hot and the room got very stuffy. The bed was very soft and I got the feeling that it was sloping towards the middle, so not terribly comfortable. The only toiletries provided were soap and body wash. In other words the room wasn’t great, but the rest of the hotel was better. The place was very child friendly with a good-sized pool, a newly build playground (which unfortunately couldn’t be used yet, but it must have been a matter of days) and a mini golf course. We had great fun doing a little tournament on the latter and thought the different holes were quite inventive and fun to play. We had to skip one hole, though, as the tube the ball was supposed to go through was broken. This should be fixed. There were a sauna, a spa, and a playroom with a pool table and board games as well.||We all had dinner twice at the hotel’s restaurant. The food was very good. Starters, main courses and deserts were all delicious and of excellent quality. Breakfast was a different matter. Choices were very limited: just bread, cheese, cold cuts, and jams, some fruit, yoghurt, cereals, and boiled eggs. If you wanted to order fried or scrambled eggs it cost extra. ||The service wasn’t that great, either. The servers in the restaurant seemed at bit confused at times. Replenishing of the breakfast buffet was very slow. We ran out of body wash in our room on the second day and it wasn’t replenished. For breakfast the second day we were given a table that was definitely too small for all of us. We would have had to sit on each other’s laps. So four of our group sat down at another table, only to be told by the server that they couldn’t sit there as the table had been set for other guests. They were allowed to take their plates and cups over to another table that hadn’t been set after some arguing with the server. This was definitely not customer friendly!||All in all, we did have a good time at the hotel as we didn’t spend much time in our rooms and weren’t that bothered by the hit-and-miss service. There is room for improvement, though.
