The Best North African Restaurants in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"This cosy Algerian eatery on the Plateau is great for groups, with plates that are easily shared and best enjoyed with friends. Ingredients from Quebec are combine with recipes from the Maghreb region, to great effect (the rabbit couscous comes highly recommended). Youth, take note: The three-course table d’hôte menu is available to students for a reduced rate on Thursdays." - Karin Murray-Bergquist

What a hidden gem in the Plateau! Fully recommended! I was impressed by the quality and quantity of the dishes served in this restaurant. The service was great and the atmosphere is calm and nice. The decoration of the restaurant is so cozy. Dishes are definitely to be shared, portions are just perfect for two or more people, plus the freshness of the ingredients is remarkable. Don't miss the chance to try this restaurant!

We got the salade poivrons, brick à l’œuf, couscous le kahina, and tea and algerien cakes for dessert. Everything was delicious, our server was amazing, and the tea and desserts are a perfect way to end a meal… I wish I got a photo of the tea pot- it was huge!

Excellent !!! I give this restaurant 5 stars ! We have just had dinner at “Au Coin Berbère” in Montreal and had an exceptional experience. I ordered the lamb tagine, and it was a delightful journey to the Maghreb with every bite. The flavors were rich and authentic, truly transporting me to North Africa. My daughter had the chicken couscous, and she absolutely loved it! The dish was full of taste, generous and bursting with flavors. We paired our meal with some refreshing mint tea (see photos), which was the perfect complement to our dishes. I highly recommend this restaurant! You’ll feel welcomed ! What a fantastic discovery ! And I love that little street / plaza where it is located. If you’re looking for a taste of authentic Berber cuisine, Au Coin Berbère is a must-visit. I suggest to make a reservation, bon appétit 😊

Au Coin Berbere primarly serves couscous in hearty portions. We tried the lamb shank, chicken, and merguez sausages which were all tender and well cooked. Be aware: the service is pretty slow, so dont be in a rush to get somewhere. They dont serve alcohol, but bring your own wine is fun. I wasnt wowed by the flavors, but the portion sizes are large and I enjoyed finding a restaurant with an emphasis on couscous. The food tasted authentic and had a homemade feel. The salade berbere was nice with the figs. For vegetarians: be sure to order the one that is vegetables with a fully vegetarian broth. The maghrebi tea was delicious, served very hot and poured with skill. The interior is well decorated, though there were some precariously places pots near the window side. The restaurant is close enough to Place des Arts that its very walkable.

The restaurant was amazing, and the service was exceptional. These guys do a great job representing their Berber traditions and food. The lamb couscous was fantastic, and the portion size was generous. It was my first experience at Au Coin Berber, and it won't be the last, I will certainly come back.

Couscous was the only menu option. While I found it 'ok', I have had much better ones. The service was very efficient and the atmosphere was nice.
