"Opened in 1947 and well known to Strasbourg locals, this winstub is now run by Alexis Albrecht, chef at Au Vieux Couvent in Rhinau. The menu, more akin to an Alsace bistro than a traditional winstub, showcases classic bistro dishes, seasonal fare and Alsace traditions: terrine with game hunted in the Ried, Alsace white asparagus and morels in puff pastry, pikeperch with beurre noisette, veal kidney with charcutière sauce, or bouchée à la reine (vol au vent). Delicious, generous dishes made with quality ingredients. Friendly atmosphere and good wine recommendations." - Michelin Inspector

A must-visit hidden gem. They stopped serving choucroute two months ago so this is no longer a place for this classic. However, the food was still excellent. Exquisitely prepared dishes with character. The devilled eggs were topped with pike roe with smoked trout buried in the mayonnaise egg yolk. The creamy chicken had just the right amount of flavour; the apple tart was concise and tart. Highly recommend.

Good food and really friendly host. Just outside the tourist area, with no terrasse but a cosy interior. I recommend the jarret de veau.

An OK dinner in nice surroundings. Food was a bit mixed. Munster spaetzle was remarkably tasteless. Chicken fillet in the chicken supreme was poorly cooked. Escargot were tasty. Nice bread and flavoured butter. Quite expensive for the quality of the food.

If you are a liver and snail lover then this place is a must visit. The staff is friendly and they will explain you all the information about the dishes of the day. The restaurant is a bit hidden away from the main street. The atmosphere is friendly and cosy. I hope that you will enjoy your stay. We didn't order any snails or liver dishes.

I arrived in Strasbourg at 23:30. Hungry and scared I couldn't find a place to eat before tomorrow morning... Then I found it. Wouah ! It is the place where you want to eat every day. A bit expensive but all the meals looks great, smell great are taste amazing. These typical French food is rare to find nowadays, it feels good to feel home.

Amazing place with a great Alsace mentality, a very strong sense for quality, a good balance between tradition and innovation. Very good wines also (ask for the ones that are not on the menu)

Yelp
This is an intimate restaurant away from the more touristy areas around the cathedral. The restaurant is open every day except Sunday and Monday. We arrived a bit early on Saturday evening and found it was still closed. We returned after 6:30 PM and found it was open. There are only about 8 tables in the restaurant. It seems to be run by a couple. The man/husband works in the kitchen, and the woman/wife works in the dining area. We are asked if we had a reservation when we arrived. We did not, but we were seated immediately. There was a board with the daily recommendations. The restaurant specializes in Alsacean fare. We began our meal with an apertif: one glass muscat and one glass cremant natural. For our dinners, we selected items from the daily board. We choose a salad that was prepared with grilled sausage and a 2nd meal which was oxtail salad (oxtail served cold with tomato, pickle, and egg). The oxtail also came with roasted potatoes that were prepared fresh. With the dinner, we shared a pitcher of Alsacean pinot noir. For dessert, we had the tarte prepared with local mirabelles, almonds, and a scoop of ice cream. The dessert was almost ruined though as one of the other diners in the restaurant had ordered a cheese dish and the smell of the cheese was overpowering for a short while. I have only nice things to say about the restaurant. The only negative I can point out is that the restaurant is small and when it filled with patrons, it was quite warm. I would love to come back here again when it is cold and enjoy the warmth of this place and the generous hospitality of it's owners. Also, given how small the place is, a reservation does seem like a good idea.
