Au Jus is located on Lexington Ave between 100st and 101st in East Harlem.. It is small, yet cozy, and has been there several years. With that being said, I have tried their food twice, and I will never try again. Unfortunately, the food is tasteless and overpriced, and the portion sizes are very small. I ordered their flounder platter my second time ordering from them, and the back of my fish was soggy and tasted like frozen fish. I had their gouda smoked Mac & Cheese, which was cold and tasteless. And I had roasted red potatoes which had a little flavor but looked and tasted as if they sat around all day. Also, I noticed a 15% gratuity charge on my receipt for takeout.. Which is fine, but I think customers should know that they have to pay gratuity on takeout orders as well as dine-in. The food is too expensive!! Especially for the portion size and quality, I won't be eating here again!!

Had the BBQ Brisket Platter. It was a far cry from being called a platter. Small portions. For costing as much as it did. The brisket look and tasted as if it was reheated within an inch of its life left. Dry. Only good bit was the coleslaw. Got the potato. Zero seasoning. Order a pecan pie. It was just a sliver of a pie for $4. Tasted good but didn’t appreciate the portion. Only had one try for me. I won’t be returning.

This food is cold and nasty. They really do their door dash orders bad. Half a rack of ribs and only a dipping cup on bbq sauce? I guess you pay for the ribs and they skimp you EVERYWHERE ELSE. Don’t get the stuffing.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Au Jus Harlem, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, with a chic yet comfortable decor that makes you feel right at home. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the hot dog. I have tasted hot dogs all over New York City, and without a doubt, Au Jus Harlem serves the best hot dog in NYC. The bun was perfectly toasted, the sausage had an impeccable snap, and the toppings were fresh and flavorful. Each bite was a perfect blend of textures and tastes, elevating the humble hot dog to a gourmet delight. But it's not just the hot dogs that stand out. The entire menu is thoughtfully curated, offering a variety of delicious options that cater to different tastes and preferences. The staff is friendly and attentive, ensuring that every guest feels valued and well taken care of. If you're looking for a place that combines great food, excellent service, and a cozy atmosphere, look no further than Au Jus Harlem . It's a must-visit spot in NYC, especially if you're a hot dog enthusiast!

Cute restaurant, seats about 3 parties or 10 people. A bit more seating outside. I have ordered to go food a few times now, meat is always tender, smoked and flavorful, delicious baked beans and tasty kale sautée. Friendly staff who know and like the menu. Nice portions. You are gonna love the food! Sauces are ok, could be better. The ribs and the brisket are the stars here, plus they let you add on ribs one by one to your order! Sorry for my picture I was tearin my plate up! EDIT: Ate there again and their to go boxes are strong, everything is always well packaged, lots of sauces and I love the horseradish sauce it cools down the spicy sauces. Great food nice staff.

I found this little gem of a restaurant by accident and boy was I happy. The food and customer service from Shelia was great! The staff was attentive and I felt welcomed. I had the Oklahoma onion burger, BBQ shrimp salad and the banana pudding....Everything was excellent and the food was fresh! According to Shelia this restaurant has been opened for 3 months now- I will definitely go back. All food sold here is made on the premises...

Just amazing bbq food and service. The ribs especially were so moist and flavorful! A great neighborhood spot

Came for happy hour and it was amazing. The margaritas was 5 dollars and the smoky salmon was delicious with the creamy Gouda Mac

Yelp
The perfect balance of savory and sweet makes every bite a delight. The service is courteous, and the ambiance feels truly authentic--almost like stepping into a classic BBQ spot in Oklahoma (and yes, I've never even been there!). The photos and atmosphere really capture that outback BBQ vibe. I highly recommend visiting this place. It's affordable, offers a unique experience, and the Happy Hour menu is packed with plenty of choices. It's a spot you won't want to miss!

Yelp
This place has a feel that makes you want to bring friends. The taste quality stands out. Their menu excellence is complemented by service quality. Also, love the interior decor, really well done & tasteful! The workers provide attentive service.

Yelp
The best BBQ for the price point! While us Yankees don't specialize in BBQ like the durty south, we have some things to be proud of. One of those above average bbq joints is Au jus, an Oklahoma style bbq spot. The one on the east side (Lexington ave) is tucked away in a cramped store front area, with some occasional vermin on the sidewalk, but the vibe is cozy and clean. Once inside, you will be struck by the smell of brisket and pork. Good smells too! We had the brisket platter with cornbread, it did not disappoint. Alittle on the dry side, but still delicious. The sides were also great, not an after thought. The Mac and cheese is worth trying, as is the cole slaw; They take it easy on the Mayo! Overall, the meat was not over salty and paired well with the Oklahoma Gold bbq sauce. Worth the price and effort to get here!

Yelp
We ordered from Ubereats but they never delivered the items (this location does its own delivery vs use an Ubereats courier). I called and the manager basically told me "too bad" despite the fact that the doorman even confirmed that there was no one who dropped off an order. The response from this location was abysmal and unacceptable. We will be filing a complaint with Ubereats.

Yelp
Still one of the best bbq joints in NYC . Plain and simple - excellent! The Oklahoma pork rack and the beef pull ribs were Pure Joy & done right . Excellent dirty rice and thick steak fries are great addition. Highly recommended!!!! Definitely a destination!!!!!

Yelp
Bomb ass chicken wings, malbec red wine, and excellent friendly service. This place and ambiance is top tier. They were so friendly I came back twice! I loved the hot BBQ sauce. Wings so amazing it fell of the bone!!! Excellent BBQ in East Harlem

Yelp
I've ordered many things on the menu both in person and for takeout. My favorite is the short ribs with baked beans and Mac and cheese. The other ribs they have are very dry. I do like the variety of different BBQ sauces they offer and the service is great with a very casual vibe if you're dining in. Overall a great staple I go here once a month!

Yelp
Decided to try a place in my neighborhood and walked right into to Au Jus for a solo date, as some bbq food is exactly what I could use for a lunch. The place is very cute with penalty of pictures surrounding it, throwback music and a homey vibe to it. The place is small itself and can only fit a certain amount. The service was attentive and friendly, I just wish they told me coleslaw came with my meal already instead of ordering an extra side because the coleslaw was not all that great. I ordered off their brunch menu and have the Oklahoma play which gave me different meats and sides and all were delicious with the Hold Sauce they provided. I even loved it with the bread! With my meal I tried their sangria and it was really good, that I had another one before leaving. Overall a quiet and chill place to enjoy oneself.

Yelp
Best BBQ in NYC. The sauces are an absolute game changer, the service is quick and reliable and overall the vibes with the history + photos make it so enjoyable

Yelp
Ordered Take outa few times. Excellent food, loved all their shredded pork's & chicken, especially with the sweet bb'cue sauce. The crab cakes very tasty, I usually take most of condiments on -- OFF , LOVE THE CAKES & sauce alone. Eespecially TASTY IS THEIR FAMOUS ' Pineapple Up side Down cake

Yelp
FOOD IS TERRIBLE. DO !!!!NOT!!!COME HERE PLEASE. Absolutely the worst restaurant. Manager is a complete a-hole to his own customers and even his employees. Found cockroaches roaming around. Price is way too high for the portions they give you and they just microwave their food. No cooking is done. Worst place ever.

Yelp
Hubs isn't a BBQ connoisseur neither am I. But he had gotten the urge for sliders and figured this would be a good spot after wrapping up with a pitiful breakfast in the Lenox Hill area. He noticed this place on Lex. between 100th-101st Streets in E. Harlem the last time I got Chocolate Mousse around the corner and mentally saved it. I wanted to turn around and leave, but hubs saw an Eggplant Sandwich and a Roasted Eggplant Salad of some kind listed on their menu that I might enjoy, but when I asked about either one, they had none. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. So sliders for hubs it was. Au Jus has a decked out brick wall and the clear partitions between tables, were nice to see. Plus outdoor seating, looks quaint. Hubs enjoyed the Cuban and Brisket sliders and said the meats in both, were seasoned and tender. His only issue was the type of bread used and the sweetness in it. But I'll be honest though- if I was a meat eater, I think I'd appreciate and enjoy that sweet+savory combo. But anyhow. There's something for every type of eating lifestyle here. I would just call ahead of time to find out if a particular item I want to eat is available.

Yelp
Au Jus is a restaurant that serves sliders and sandwiches of BBQ or roasted meats. They also sell the meats by the pound. Prices are reasonable and affordable. I had a pound of pork rib tips, an Oklahoma onion burger, and an Oklahoma "Not So Hot" Link slider with a sweet tea. Sweet tea was ok, not a favorite though. It's my first time having a sweet tea so I don't know how it is supposed to taste. It was a tad bitter and not too sweet. Two or three sliders are enough to make a full meal. They were good but not the best quality. You can customize how well done or rare you want the burger. The Oklahoma onion burger is like a cheeseburger but with onions and two small beef patties. I liked the Oklahoma link slider better, which consists of sausage, arugula, cheese, and chipotle mayo. The pork rib tips is a great deal. It's $6 per pound and is a lot of meat. It has a dry rub, but the flavor is a bit lacking. Nothing the BBQ sauce that comes with it can't fix.

Yelp
Horrible food. It's always empty when I go in and when there are a few customers, it's usually a senior age crowd. I ordered Mac and cheese, soup, and cornbread. The only eatable food was the cornbread. I took two bites and left everything else behind. Even the lemonade was bad.

Yelp
WARNING ! FOOD POISONING !! Yesterday was the first time I came in to this restaurant, I was craving brisket and saw that the restaurant had high reviews. I stepped in, the place was clean and the cashier was polite. I ordered a brisket sandwich, fries and both brownies. A few hours later after eating my the sandwich and fries I started feeling nauseous and that's when I started feeling worse. I definitely got food poisoning from eating the sandwich . I know for a fact I got food poisoning for this establishment because the only thing I ate prior was coffee and bread. Extremely disappointed that the food got me sick

Yelp
Decided to order in some sliders and fries. Very quick delivery and traveled well. I would like to dine in!

Yelp
The ribs and unique barbecue sauce are amazing, as well as there sweet baked beans. The coleslaw wasn't up to par with the rest of the meal, but Kevin (who was working one leg!) allowed me to replace it which I thought was amazing service. If I hadn't switched the cole slaw, i would have given 4/5. But the beans, ribs, and service all deserve 5/5. If you're getting the lunch special, do yourself a favor and add one more rib for $2.50 ... you'll save yourself a trip back to the counter!

Yelp
Amazing food made like mom would make, Oklahoma style! A large selection of homey delicious barbecue foods, platters, sides, plus healthy options and desserts. Delivery, a few tables inside with fun oklahoma nostalgia throughout, or a cozy outside dining area adorned with plants and hanging lights. * This is one of the amazing places on one of our favorite unassuming blocks on Lexington Avenue with about 12 fabulous food finds within a couple blocks. The great Oklahoma story. This charming spot is all things Oklahoma. The owner was raised there, and had a love for the foods he had growing up. After moving to NYC, then years later semi retiring from a career in biotech, he brought his amazing Oklahoma foodie visions to fruition with all his favorite foods from Oklahoma, with this Au Jus location the third of four in NYC. All the nostalgia and photos inside have ties to Oklahoma: Carrie Underwood, Mickey Mantle, who the owners' father knew personally, and many other photos of celebrities and musicians adorning the wall - all with some connection or roots from Oklahoma. Food. We have had food from Au Jus countless times over the past year and a half. While we originally loved this homey gem for the meat and potatoes meals and comfort food my mom would make, we continued ordering their food again ... and again... for their amazing selection with so many options of meats and healthy foods / salads appealing to all our tastes. The meats are tender and flavorful, the healthy salad and side options are delicious and well presented, soups are fantastic, and the platters (with a main and choice of two sides) are a hearty meal (and then some). And all very reasonably priced. A few of our favorites: Mains/ platters- Corned beef, beef brisket, and the incredible portobello mushrooms with fontina cheese Salads- amazing Ritz Cobb salad, bbq shrimp salad. kale side salad with walnuts and blue cheese, burrata with greens and cherry tomatoes Soups- Clam chowder, Oklahoma red chili, lentil Sides- Mac and cheese. Bbq baked beans, roasted potatoes, stuffing Desserts- Apple pie, brownie, creme brûlée, and red velvet cake Service. Service is always above and beyond friendly. Nancy in particular is often working the phone, and serving; and she is the sweetest. If she is your server, you will know who I am talking about. While not from Oklahoma, she has Oklahoma sweet personality and makes you feel at home. Definitely recommend for weekend brunches and early dinner for everyone: families, kids, friends and couples

Yelp
Went when they had special price! It was $2 for for sliders $1 for the ribs Got asian salad wit ginger sauce SO GOOD Ribs were one of the best I've had!! I got the crab slider it was ok bit dry with bacon. UES, near a frenchy cafe and church. Interior brings me to the south and retro era. Not that spacious but yes seating! Service was nice

Yelp
I am currently in Miami Beach for over a month. Miami is the home of the Cuban Sandwich. I love the Cuban Sandwich and spent numerous hours on YouTube and Google looking for the best Cuban sandwich in Miami. I have had some great ones, but not as good as I get from the Harlem branch of AuJus. It comes down to the pork. In Miami, the sandwiches seem very heavy on the cheese and light on the (not so flavorful) pork. Au Jus has such delicious pork in their sandwiches! I can not wait for my return to NYC to get a taste of an authentic Cuban sandwich that is flavorful. OK, the food is great, but also, the staff at this location are 5-star. When you order online, they call you immediately and make recommendations if something is unavailable. Also, to-go orders are packaged with care. I can not say enough great things about this location's food and staff.

Yelp
Wow!! For a neighborhood bbq spot that's right around the corner from me, I can't complain. What a fantastic little shop. The beef brisket was juicy and full of flavor, while the box of tips is SO tasty and has a good bite to the meat (all while being such a good deal! $6 for 1lb and $11 for 2lbs!). Platters come with 2 sides and the tips don't come with any. Sides are reasonably priced and come in big servings tho. BUT the baked beans were OMG my favorite - sweet and smoky and chewy and everything you could ever ask for in baked beans! The Mac and Cheese is quite special too. Can't wait to go back to try some sandwiches for a quick weekday lunch. Only thing is that the outdoor seating, while super cute, gets really cold bc there's no shield from the wind. But the wait staff was really nice and despite it being an over-the-counter spot, they brought out our food and drink to our table outside.

Elijah-Jihaad D.

Yelp
So... the food was curious. Meats were decent yet no flavor. (Poorly seasoned). Sauces, average at best. Taste like watered down table condiments. Gouda mac n' cheese comes served with 2 slices of melted American cheese on top . Corn bread was dry. Pina coladas taste like frozen cough medicine. Beans were okay, yet cooked in pork with no disclaimer. Did I mention the butter was cold, although they were able to warm up some when I asked. Service was good and the food came out quick. For what its worth I would've waited patiently for a better meal.

Yelp
I am not a huge bbq fan but we loved Au Jus. I have been craving it since our visit. We had the brisket, pastrami and pulled pork sliders with Mac and cheese side.

Dawn H.

Yelp
I'm here on 10/9/23. Waiting over 30 minutes for sliders and French fries. The cashier clocked out about 20 minutes ago and apparently the system crashed. She failed to write down the orders resulting in a bunch of us here with a stressed kitchen.

Genora B.

Yelp
The quality of food at restaurant on the upper West side has dropped tremendously. Oh my God you should see the prices of the pie.Beef Rib Tips, pork ribs. I can't get over insulting slices of sweet potato pie.
google avatar

Marc B.

Yelp
Very Small portion of brisket for a platter. The brisket didn't have much flavor and was dry rather moist, didn't taste as good as expected. The mac and cheese was the highlight of the meal to say the least.
google avatar

Jing K.

Yelp
Very good neighborhood bbq. Not the traditional wood pit smoked but still a good neighborhood standby. Very friendly service and large portions. Ribs are Oklahoma style and you can get by the platter or by the rib. The standouts are their sliders. Basically the size of a regular burger. The Oklahoma hot (sausage, cheese, onions, pork rinds), beef brisket, Ruben are all excellent. Get the burrata salad.

Yelp
Live this place. The food is always excellent. The staff is very kind and knowledgeable. I always get take out and it arrives quickly and packaged so nIcely. Very reasonably priced. One time the delivery person forgot something and the my were so apologetic and were going to send someone else but i said don't worry. I owned a restaurant before and things happen. This place will not disappoint. I can't say I had anything that didn't taste excellent!!!

Yelp
Au Jus in this location, satisfies the cravings for BBQ . I would not rank this above many of the other BBQ spots throughout the boroughs however . In fact , I'd say it's middle of the pack or just below based off what I ordered . First off ,service and cleanliness here is outstanding ! There is decent indoor seating for about 15 people and there is sheltered outside seating as well for your social distancing desires . As for my order , I went with a brisket sandwich and some of their wings . The brisket was cooked well but it was missing that juicy fatty and slightly salty pieces that gives brisket that signature taste . The buns tasted like it was buttered which I didn't like and the fermented toppings just was abit off . The way they treat the toppings( sow was not the culprit) needs to be checked because it wasn't helping the decent brisket at all . Overall the sandwich is decent but definitely easily improve-able . The wings , were another story . The wings are large sized wings and are baked instead of fried ! Large style wings usually have issues absorbing flavor when cooking and this was the case . The wings first of all looked extremely unappealing with its pale ish color and the flavor from seasonings etc wasn't there .I got several sauces but it was beyond resurrection . Easily some of the worse wings I've ever had . Sorry I don't have pics to illustrate but if you're not a super healthy person with a easy to please pallet id recommend avoiding this option. I'd say this place has potential , I'm sure other things on their menu might be great but personally id head to mighty Quinn's or John Browns etc for my bbq fix .

Yelp
Ordered the brisket dinner with a side or sauteed kale and smoked gouda mac n cheese, the pork ribs, and grilled hotdog. I'll start with the good- the kale had a great flavor and the brisket was very tender. The not so good-time meat had very little flavor and even with the bbq sauce (which is clearly vinegar based) it didn't give the flavor I was looking for. The mac n cheese was dry and not "cheesy"- I ended up adding cheese to it when I got home to doctor it up. The ribs were slightly tough and without the sauce there was a heavy pepper flavor to the bark. The hotdogs must have briefly touched the grill. I prefer my grilled hotdogs to have a snap to the skin when when you bite into it and this one was lacking .

Ms.Melo G.

Yelp
most disgusting bbq ive ever eaten in my life ! my ribs and coleslaw tasted like it was soaked in vinegar, had no flavor , no seasoning and definitely isnt worth the price tag! i threw my food in the garbage . as for me i have to deal with a upset bubbling stomach smh. by the way the rib portions are a mockery of the price .

Yelp
Came in on a rainy Sunday afternoon for brunch with some friends. We arrived after the listed time on the brunch menu but the staff was able to accommodate our brunch orders! Have also got take out for dinner from this location and I feel like the brunch portions were actually heartier than the dinner portions. Most of us got the Oklahoma BBQ Plate which gives you a good sample of a few items! Another got the challah French toast and another the crab cake sandwich. Everything tasty! Only issue was one entree arrived about five minutes after the others, so most of our meals had cooled off a bit. Beer/ wine available. Friendly server, Kevin, thank you and keep up the good work! Clean restrooms. Wish they sold the BBQ sauces, would definitely get some as gifts!!!

Yelp
My wife and I were going to be in the area and we wanted to have bbq for lunch so we decided to give this place a try after looking it up on Yelp. We came for lunch and sat down right away, inside there are a few seats as it is a very small place, the ambiance is nice and you could smell the smoky bbq smell, we ordered the beef rib tips 1 pound portion which was a good size to split, my wife decided to get the onion burger slider which was just enough for her, I ordered the brisket platter which came with 2 sides, I chose Mac and cheese and coleslaw. The brisket was very tender and really good, the coleslaw was just ok and the Mac and cheese was really good, really the serving didn't look big but really was filling and was good quality, the meat was tender and flavorful, I had some of the Oklahoma gold bbq sauce along with the sweet bbq sauce, both were really good and were a good compliment to the meat, the service was very good and prices were reasonable, I would return

Yi L.

Yelp
Lunch specials are cheap and nice. All sauces on table are worth to try. AC in the house are too cold

Yelp
Ordered takeout, and was told they would deliver between a certain time. Nothing was delivered, and no communication from the restaurant.

Yelp
So here's the deal I've ordered for pick and enjoyed a delicious meal, which at time would have gotten 4 stars ( I didn't fancy the mac n cheese I have standards ) but today my family and I sat at their outdoor seating began enjoying a $66.00 meal to find not 1 but 2 (TWO) human hairs in my rib combo box. Then to be courteous and not cause conflict in front of other patrons I go in side to address the issue and pay my bill and although the waitress/cashier was nice and offered an apology, I wasn't even offered a discount or even a free damn drink and still Paid my $66.00 !!!! And that is the reason for this review!!! Good food but with a side of employee DNA? nah im out

Yelp
I was thrilled to find a local barbecue restaurant in the neighborhood and decided to give it a try. It was Covid-19 takeout, so I can't really rate the service or ambience other than that it seemed down home and warm. The restaurant specializes in Oaklahoma BBQ and I ordered the pulled pork, beef ribs, coleslaw and gouda mac & cheese. The pulled pork and beef ribs were phenomenal; tender, juicy and bursting with flavor. The gouda added an extra layer of richness to the mac & cheese and coleslaw was fresh and crunchy but otherwise unremarkable. The cornbread was also not a favorite and at $4 for what is essentially a single piece cut in half was overpriced. But since meat is the heart and soul of barbecue, I will definitely return.

Yelp
Great new place on Lexington. Fantastic BBQ offerings. We had the brisket sliders which are incredibly delicious, the chili is fantastic, the ribs are tender, smokey and you can tell a lot of love went into the menu here. The lemonade, cole slaw, stuffing and cornbread just add to an already all star menu. The service was very friendly and courteous and a fun place to eat.
google avatar

Yelp
Little bit of a hidden gem in Harlem for dope, meaty sandwiches. I guess it's Oklahoma style BBQ but the vast menu has plenty of options. Came for lunch ordered the brisket sandwich and pulled chicken. Both massive and delicious. Don't skip on the spicy vinegar and Oklahoma BBQ sauce!!
google avatar

Martina V.

Yelp
I don't like their food ..... I love it .. haha. my husband went to work late just to have their food thank goodness he's his own boss. My picky husband loves their smoked chicken sandwich . I love their beef brisket and others stuff . I make it a habit of coming on the weekends I look forward to their brownies and sweet tea .

Elaine S.

Yelp
Amazing food and service! Will definitely be back! Such cute decor as well and the location is perfect!

Yelp
Some of the best pork BBQ ribs I've had in a long time. Good price point especially if you go for the $8 lunch specials that include a side and drink. Even the small salad was fresh and delicious. Extensive menu of succulent meats, classic sides, and presumably delectable desserts. If you're ever in the mood for BBQ, you can't go wrong with this place.

Lois H.

Yelp
Awesome food and service. Best ribs in Manhattan, bar none. Also loved loved the dirty rice and baked beans. This is how restaurant food should always be.
google avatar

Jay K.

Yelp
I know the food's cheap but the flavor is really mediocre. The only thing good was the burger that was delicious. I got the portobello mushrooms and the smoked chicken and they were both totally uninteresting
google avatar

Elissa R.

Yelp
Shout out to the short ribs. However I also enjoyed everything else I ordered for takeout.
google avatar

Kelly L.

Yelp
Best ever, most mouthwateringly luscious moist delicious brisket we've had!! Enjoyed the ribs, Gouda mac n cheese, yummy stuffing, and bbq sauce as well. I only wish we had tried this place sooner! Will definitely be back and can't wait to try the lamb when they have it available.

Nicole G.

Yelp
We walked by Au Jus about month before the Covid-19 shutdown occurred and made plans to stop in "sometime." Day 70 of the shutdown, and we ordered takeout (since we're a bit west of their delivery zone). It was almost 3.5 miles roundtrip for me and worth every step! The Frito pie is delicious- spicy, loaded with cheese, and the Fritos travelled pretty well considering how long the trip back was. The Reuben slider was fantastic; loaded with meat and just the right amount of seasoning. My husband, born and raised in OKC, says the hot links taste like childhood. Fantastic food; friendly staff when I came in to pick up; just a great mood lift on a rainy Friday during shutdown. We'll definitely be ordering again.

Tabatha K.

Yelp
I have to go with the crowd....delicious....and I'm not a meat eater. I had the portobello wrap, Asian chicken salad and a large cookie. My husband had the brisket slider, shrimp salad and pecan pie. I asked for "regular water" and they put a large bottle of tap water on the table. We plan on going back to try the ribs and/or some other stuff on the menu. Right now it's cash only. The regular menu is posted on the window. It looks like the prices will stay in the very reasonable range.
