Au Pied D Cheval

Very nice offer with a seafood plate with a big crab, many oysters, langustines, snails and shrimps. The chardonnay was also good. For a very popular location like Cancale, this restaurant is very good.

Au Pied D'Cheval in Cancale, located along the boulevard, offers an inviting experience with its terrace adorned with large baskets of oysters that beckon you to take a seat. The restaurant gets its name from the impressive "au pied d'cheval" oyster variety, adding a unique touch to the ambiance. We had the pleasure of savoring some delicious creuses alongside a ½ bottle of Menetou Salon wine. The service was friendly and welcoming, and the sunny terrace provided a delightful setting for enjoying a glass of wine and oysters. A minor drawback was the small wine glasses, which didn't quite do justice to the wine. Nonetheless, Au Pied D'Cheval is a lovely place to relish fresh oysters and a glass of wine while taking in the coastal atmosphere.

A classic in cancale, from mother to son. Service is great, serves non-stop from noon till eve. Sea food is fresh and deliciously made. Fries are the best. Dessert is good as well. Staff friendly.

Enjoying fresh oysters & crustaceans facing to the sea is must-do in Cancale. It is not so easy to order and communicate in English with not-over-friendly staffs here. Food and wine were fine but not special. May be, my expectation was bit too high. 3.5 star

We knew about this place from a random blog when researching for our Normandy and Bretagne road trip. Tried it and came back every time we visited the close by area (Saint Malo, Mont Saint Michel, Dinan…). Fresh, various ranges of oyster. They proposed also seafood platter. Some warm food like fish soup or mussel frites to end the meal with comfort. A great oyster bar next to the sea to enjoy with a glass of wine and some ocean breeze 😊

Really nice place to eat oysters and seafood for a cheap price! They opened the oyster right in front of us, and since we knew nothing about them, the waiter happily explained us a bit about them. They have also a table of cheeses, omelette and fries, suitable for vegetarians. Thank you!

Bought the largest size average oysters and it turned out to be so thin and disappointing. Bought the same grade oyster from another shop to compare and I can see the difference.

But mostly by the taste. I have never tasted oysters quite as delicious as these Brittany oysters. Most in our party agreed. Our party of 6 must have eaten about 10 dozen. A few of us tried the fish soup based on recommendations. I found that pretty tasty too. Not a lot of English spoken here, but we either spoke enough bad French or they understood enough English for us to make our way through the evening.

A friend tells me Cancale has the best oysters in the world. And that seems to be true, as we had oysters in two places here and in both, they were extremely fresh and perfect. This is a small place. Don't expect much English but do expect great oysters. (Sorry, that's all we had here, but I am pretty sure anything on the menu would be excellent).

Coming from London, where Wright Brothers doesn't hesitate to mark up oysters to painfully unaffordable levels, this place seemed like a Poundstore. At a bargain price of €11-15/dzn oysters, the friendly oyster mistress seemed like the angel that flew you across the channel to Brittany. Working an oyster is hard; very hard indeed, but when you see oysters trucked from the neighbouring pier to the restaurant loading dock, and the oyster mistress subsequently and professionally shucking the live oysters full of sea water and adorning your plate with the shells and piece of lemon - you know that God exists. And then when you find yourself only €12 poorer, you know that he meant for you to enjoy life on earth. Full marks to Au Pied d'Cheval for quality and service.

Excellent seafood restaurant located in the cosy village of Cancale. Very fresh products to unexpensive prices (specially for French level). The place looks like an old tavern with two floors + small terrace and they are even selling fresh oysters on street. I would recommend the fish soup (honemade) and seafood platter (large portion) - simple delicious. Service is very friendly, making you feel like home.

Love this restaurant! We go back every chance we get. Tried the restaurant's namesake, the Pied d'Cheval, a huge oyster the size of my hand! See how big it is compared to the regular size oyster next to the piece of lemon? Delicious raw!

Wonderful! Lots of delicious oysters to try and other seafood. Run by 4 amazing ladies, however no English. We were able to get along just fine. Highly recommend for a couple dozen oysters with wine or cider.
