Au Violon

I recently stayed here with 3 other travelling friends. This hotel was the perfect place to stay in Old Town Basel. We loved our rooms, the views were beautiful, the breakfast was excellent. The beds were so comfortable and the entire hotel is a visual feast. Top it all off with excellent staff at the front desk and in the restaurant and you could not get a better stay. I highly recommend this for your safe and comfortable visit in Basel.

We had one of our group dinners here last month. This restaurant did not disappoint us. The food and atmosphere were great! Good for large outdoor groups where a casual environment is desired. The wine was good too!

We had lunch at Au Violon - the restaurant is elegant, refined and steeped in history; the service attentive and professional; the menu inventive & featuring seasonal ingredients (great vegetarian options); the dishes were delicious and beautifully presented. Loved it: thank you, Au Violon!

Well-regarded restaurant in downtown Basel, but a little hard to find on foot. Take a taxi even if you think it’s just a 20-minute walk. Good food at somewhat reasonable prices (for Switzerland). Well-chosen list of moderately-priced wines.

This review is about the restaurant of the hotel. It is pretty good, but please note that the menu, of which photos are posted in other reviews, is a lunch menu. The lunch menu is great value, but dinner is served à la carte and will be much more expensive, we're talking about > 40 CHF for just a mains.

Had lunch. Great food, great tartar. Other french dishes looked amazing. Great setting. Need to come back.

Service is excellent, and the food - in all respects, is superb. The dinner menu presents a collection of french classics. The wine list is good, and the "open bottle" list (wines by the glass) has some very interesting and non-typical choices. Full bar as well. Everything is well prepared. Kristin came out from behind the bar to seat me, and made sure I was well started, and Julian was the waiter who was so attentive without cloying to my table. I made some special requests, and the only reaction was to serve those quickly. This was a full room of locals and visitors alike - reserve when you want to dine there.

A charming hotel, in the centre of the old town, with bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. The staff were very friendly and helpful, they recommended a really great restaurant to us as the hotel restaurant is closed on Sunday. The room was comfortable and clean, and very quiet, however there was a sliding door to the bathroom which was very heavy and difficult to close but this was the only negative point
