We spent a very pleasant 2 days at Le Poutre.||||The room was a little spartan, retro-70s, perfectly clean and entirely sufficient for our needs. A warm welcome and perfect, charming service from start to finish.||||I can understand why one previous reviewer described the restaurant menu as a "wonderbox" - indeed the harmony of the whole was not greater than the sum of the parts. But the parts themselves were excellent - a perfect plump fillet of veal, very convincing crayfish (Bonlieu is a long way from the sea, but we forgot this instantly...), a good if not outstanding salmon fillet. No it isn't quite "haute cuisine" (as suggested by some local publications), but an honest, carefully prepared, slightly rustic menu, offering good value for its high quality. Don't expect virtuosic amuses bouches, this isn't that kind of place. The wine list is ecclectic, with some fantasy wines (Mouton Rothschild 1982, Petrus etc) at fantasy prices, but also a good Jura selection and some solid values from elsewhere if you choose carefully. The open wines we tried suffered, alas, from having been open perhaps a day or two too long... All in all a clear recommendation, well above "Jurassic" standard, if not quite at the quality achieved by the best restaurants in Arbois.||||The clear bonus is the unbelievably uncramped, friendly, totally open and unsnobbish service, a true pleasure and a reason to return!
