5 Best Day Trips from Paris | Condé Nast Traveler

"It is an oasis in an already blissfully relaxing locale. With such close proximity to the Château de Chantilly , the stables, and the gardens, it is the perfect component to a countryside escape. Beyond the spacious and tasteful rooms, there's the Michelin-starred restaurant La Table du Connétable and the Valmont Spa, which includes a pool, sauna, and hammam. Guests will also find a billiard room, bar, and valet parking. Since the hotel is part of the Domaine de Chantilly, they have the keys to the château. As the most luxurious property in the area and given its relationship with the Domaine, you can't beat the location, calm, services, and dining experience." - Mary Winston Nicklin, Lindsey Tramuta

Auberge du Jeu de Paume

"How did it strike you on arrival?Located just beyond the stone archway that leads Château de Chantilly and its estate, the hotel strikes as the region's answer to Paris's Le Bristol: there is a refined, sophisticated aesthetic and Louis XV style. Access to the property's various rooms, dining areas, sitting rooms, and bars is simple: they surround the central garden courtyard. What’s the crowd like?Travelers tend to be over 40 and often traveling to the region for the horse races or, in the spring, for the Journées des Plantes garden festival, the largest in Europe. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. Each of the 92 rooms are set up and designed in a similar fashion, with of the Château, park, or the hotel's courtyard. They have cream-colored walls offset by a statement headboard or wall, and/or curtains in navy or burgundy colored toile de Jouy (bed cushions are in a matching color). Rounding it out are Louis XV armchairs, a few paintings and equestrian touches, like wooden horse figurines or plush horse stuffed animals for children. The rooms are spacious, comfortable, immaculately pressed and cleaned, and blissfully quiet. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.Michelin-starred restaurant La Table du Connétable is excellent and worth booking for lunch or dinner. The Valmont Spa has two signature treatments created for the property (including one involving whipped cream body wraps), along with a pool, sauna, and hammam. Guests will also find a billiard room, bar, and valet parking. Since the hotel is part of the Domaine, they have the keys to the Château. For weddings, big celebrations, or private dinners for couples willing to pay the price, events and meals can be organized by the hotel inside the Château. What was most memorable about your stay?It is an oasis in an already blissfully relaxing locale. With such close proximity to the Château, the stables, and the gardens, it is the perfect component to a countryside escape. Bottom line: worth it, and why?As the most luxurious property in the area and in close proximity to the Domaine, you can't beat the location, calm, services, and dining experience." - Lindsey Tramuta

We thoroughly enjoyed our two-night break at the five-star Auberge du Jeu de Paume Hotel in Chantilly, which was a birthday present. The hotel is ideally located for visiting the beautiful Château de Chantilly and its extensive gardens, as well as other local attractions. Our ‘Double Deluxe’ room on the second floor looked out over an inner courtyard and was very quiet. We felt lucky it wasn’t facing the busy cobbled street at the front of the hotel. Our room was spacious and had everything we wanted. It was decorated in a cosy ‘vie de château’ style, perfectly in keeping with the glorious surroundings. The bedding was very comfortable. The spotless bathroom was equipped with a bathtub, bathrobes, and slippers. We appreciated the separate toilet. We enjoyed the extensive breakfast buffet laid out in the stylish breakfast room. Service was friendly but a little slow. The hotel bar has outdoor patio seating, but the prices are on the high side (€10 for a beer). Since one of us has respiratory allergies, the only real downside of the hotel was the presence of reed fragrance diffusers in the lobby and the corridors.

A good hotel very near the stables of the chateau of Chantilly. They have valet parking to their own underground garage. Our room was good but rather hot but the windows were sealed shut so it depended on the air conditioning - I do like to get fresh air in on a hot day. Dinner in the restaurant was fairly good but not exceptional; breakfast with a buffet was good. I might have given it 5 stars but on check-out they tried to over-charge us - fortunately my wife had kept a hard copy of our online reservation at a discounted room rate, so they fixed it, slightly grudgingly I thought.

We stayed for a family visit, as a nice experience before flying out to home. As this hotel is only 30 min. from CDG, on the less busy side, we avoided traffic jams for an early morning flight. We asked the concierge to reserve a driver for a 5:30 am flight. They kindly had pastries, coffee and juice ready for us and as such made the most stressful part of our travel actually enjoyable! The hotel and hotel staff were excellent. If you are a fan of horses, or James Bond, you will find Chantilly and the Chateau so much fun. The hotel is in the best possible location, with stables out the door, and the chateau a short walk away. Room and amenities are a huge plus. Very comfortable. Highly recommend!

Review: Auberge du Jeu de Paume, Chantilly ⭐️(3/5) Despite being marketed as a five-star Relais & Châteaux property, Auberge du Jeu de Paume unfortunately falls short in several key areas. The hotel’s setting is undeniably beautiful, with a privileged location next to the Château de Chantilly. However, the experience inside does not live up to its luxury billing. The room, while tastefully decorated, could not be cooled below 19°C — an issue during warmer months and unacceptable for a hotel in this category. There is no meaningful solution, and comfort was compromised throughout the stay. Breakfast was another disappointment. The selection was extremely limited, and what was offered felt more aligned with a basic two-star hotel rather than a luxury property. No fresh à la carte options were offered besides a really bad omelette. Auberge du Jeu de Paume may appeal to those visiting for its location and historical charm, but as it stands, it does not deliver a true luxury experience. For the price, better value and service can be found elsewhere. 5 stars to the housekeeping maintaining the room impecable!!!! Thanks

⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4.5 stars) We would have gladly given a full 5 stars, as everything went smoothly in the end and the team was very friendly and attentive on the day of the assignment. Unfortunately, we had to deduct a point upon arrival: during the briefing, the process was initially made more difficult for us, and it seemed that the motto "clothes make the man" played too big a role. (Note to the reception manager: Clothing does not determine the quality of a person or their work. After a 10-hour journey, a tight schedule, and considerable time pressure, casual clothing should not be an issue.) On the actual day of the assignment, however, the service was excellent – which is why we would have preferred to give 4.5 stars, but unfortunately this isn’t possible here.

Staff were all very well trained and property was spotless. As I turned out I did have problem with my card (discovered subsequently as to why this was) communication as to what amount of deposit had been taken on checkin all got resolved (in between my call to the US to check what pre-payment etc had been taken Brenda explained all such information was held directly with the property). It was good to get everything resolved before I left. Thank you all for your understanding and patience given it was my first time and was not aware of practices. I would love to visit with CR in the future it would be really good to be able to pay when you book online as I did think payment had initially gone through - perhaps US office could feedback / propose flexible payment options going forward to enable guests to pay up front at booking stage prior to visit to avoid simple things getting lost in translation. Everyone was kind and we all worked together to trace steps back as I had a feeling either payment or pre payment had been taken but could not work out which given it was my first visit. I loved the fact the property was very well maintained and staff took pride in the property, themselves and were lovey to talk to. Thank you again everyone for making my visit enjoyable/relaxing and memorable and especially thanks to spa staff/IT tech guy and bar/morning breakfast and cleaning staff who offered their time/kindness and devotion. Special thank you to dos team in first visit who prepared bespoke first special treatment (thank you x) and thereafter special bespoke facial - a wonderful experience - thank you x

Fantastic visit. We had to leave the last hotel review impending..... of the cavalier b&b. On arrival, all of the staff were very attentive they took our bags and the car was dealt with safely and securely. There is access to a spa and fitness room included. Thanks for taking us at short notice.

Immediately upon entry I felt calm and peaceful. The hotel lobby felt more intimate as opposed to grandiose, with a serenity that comes with elegant interior design. Our room was spacious and very comfortable with a view to the garden. The service was excellent and friendly. The location was close to the chateau and across the road from the horse stables (two of the main tourist sites you’ll be seeing). They have bicycles for use on property that we used to explore the area and take to dinner. The bar and restaurant were excellent. Our couple of days there provided a welcomed respite from the hectic pace of our time in Paris.

Yelp
I stayed at this hotel with my husband about a year ago, for just 1 night for a quick weekend excursion from Paris. The hotel is really very beautiful, with elegant décor throughout the building and in the rooms. When we arrived, we had drinks at the bar, which had a very cozy seating area. We also spent a good amount of time at the pool (there were bathrobes offered in the rooms), which was beautiful and a calm place to lounge around in between dips in the water. Our room was beautiful but a bit small and given the high price tag, we found it wasn't really special compared to some other similarly ranked/priced establishments we've stayed at. The staff were all very polite and helpful as expected at such a fancy hotel. Overall we had a nice weekend here.

Yelp
A decent, perhaps the only, option adjacent to the Château. I expected a bit more given the five-star status. We were greeted warmly and the concierge, Dimitri, was quite helpful. He was able to arrange a pickup for us at the airport (worth it) and our taxi back to CDG. They responded immediately to all our requests over email and were quite helpful. He also arranged a reservation for us at a local restaurant. The only misstep occurred the night before our departure. We asked for a time change for our taxi pickup which did not happen. The staff said they would call our room to confirm but they never did and the change was not made. The room was small but clean and the bed comfortable. The stand up shower head did not have good pressure. We used the shower head for the tub instead. We were on the first floor and could easily hear our neighbors above as they walked around so you might choose a second floor room for your trip. The guest WiFi did not work at all when we were there. The staff attempted to help us by providing the staff WiFi password but that didn't work as it constantly dropped the connection. In today's world, consistent and reliable WiFi is equivalent to running water. I was quite surprised the WiFi didn't work given the quality of this hotel. The breakfast bar was average to below average. I was surprised at the lack of options and the overall quality of the food offered. It was disappointing. Overall, our experience was quite mixed but overall positive. It is not a place we'd stay again but nothing we regretted for a short stop in between other destinations.

Yelp
I stayed at this hotel for the 2nd time for one night in April. We ate at the hotel, not in the gastronomic restaurant (which was closed) but in the main restaurant. They served an amuse bouche of butter smeared on a radish. This set the tone for the entire meal, which was overpriced and very underwhelming. We were sad that it was our last meal in France, but then the food on the United Business Class flight home was so much better, we decided to call that our last meal in France. When we got home, I discovered someone at the hotel had gone through our bags, stealing a brand new in-the-box pair of Louis Vuitton sunglasses and rifling through a Cartier box that was luckily empty as the bracelet was on my wrist. The hotel had held our luggage for a few hours while we waited for our room to be ready - and we carried on our luggage so it had to have happened at the hotel. So disappointing! And when I contacted the hotel to let them know of the theft (asking nothing of them - I claimed it through my insurance), it took them a week to respond and the response was essentially nothing - but they hoped I'd leave them a good review! So here's my review. Save yourself. Stay elsewhere.

Yelp
A great escape from Paris, this hotel sits within eyesight of the Chateau de Chantilly and is equipped with a beautiful spa, modest gym, 2 star Michelin restaurant and a second restaurant worthy of praise. Rooms are spacious and fresh. Staff is wonderfully helpful. It's also 25-30 minutes from CDG airport (take a taxi, not a hotel private at 2x the cost), so it makes for a great and restful "last stop" after a busy Paris trip.

Yelp
Excellent service and location!!! We really enjoyed being here despite the time and effort of finding this gem. When we arrived we thought we were in some kind of medieval time because of the castle and architecture there. The city is full of nice people and everything is within walking distance. Chantilly is famous for its horse races and showcase. Very delightful hotel as well. Spacious, clean, and friendly. A+!

Yelp
Lovely location across from the great stables of the Duke D'Aumale and a short walk to the Chateau de Chantilly. The Auberge, which was just opened, is ideally located to explore one of the unheralded jewels around Paris. Although it boasts one of the great art collections of the world and a number of other great sites, the Chateau de Chantilly has largely been overlooked, but with a number of restoration projects underway, and the addition of the Auberge de Jeu de Paume and the Jeu de Paume exhibition space next door, the area is enjoying a revitalisation. Wonderful walks around the hippodrome and down to the Chateau. Excellent food at the Auberge; nice rooms with period French details -- but not too much. I highly recommend a weekend to explore Chantilly, which is little more than a half hour from Paris.
