Auberge du Paradis

"Two restaurants in one! Dishes to share and a concise menu set the scene at Lucienne (shrimp cooked over hot stones, tataki of tandoori beef, tempura of baby carrots), while Joséphine à Table offers a wine bar with traditional starters and a dish of the day (marbled ham, pork pie, chicken skewers, rice pudding). Brunch on Saturdays. Both establishments boast a pleasant patio and a friendly vibe – all of which washed down with tipples from Mâcon and Beaujolais." - Michelin Inspector

We normally stay in 5* hotels, but in this part of the beaujolais, there was nothing available like that, so we tried Auberge du Paradis. We were very positively surprised. The reception was very friendly, genuine, warm. The room (we had “Sesame”) was very large, and architecturally very interesting. 6 meter high ceiling at the highest point, open connection to the bath room, lots of light, interesting angles, and it was in perfect condition. Also the little details were well done - the toiletry selection was the biggest I have aver seen, reading lights next to the bed had a nice fancy design, the big shower was surprisingly comfortable, etc Finally, the breakfast was very well done. Home made confiture, home made yoghurt, great pastries, high quality selection of teas, and again very friendly service. The hotel is also home to two very nice restaurants (bistro and gastronomic). Certainly worth a stop-over.

Amazing find. A very original, eclectic place. Rooms are beautiful in a very French way. Restaurant Lucienne was fantastic, each course a taste sensation. The pool area is basic but so peaceful and the totally home made breakfast out of this world. Everything from the 3 jams and marmalade all home made and the staff were so lovely we will definitely return to this hidden

What a treat it was to stay here! We stayed in the Jeanne room. It was immaculate and everything you could possibly need or want was provided from toiletries to Damann tea. The breakfast was one of the best breakfast spreads we've had. The restaurants were both fantastic. Everyone we encountered was so kind. We fully recommend this wonderful little spot

Despite its position on the Main Street there is no serious traffic and you can park your car close by. This is a proper auberge with a lovely outside eating and drinking area plus a comfortable dining room. The bedrooms are well proportioned and modernised. Gabriel, the manager seemed to do almost everything including carrying up the suitcases, running the front desk and serving at dinner! An amazing feat as we never had to wait. The food was outstanding and extremely original. The bedroom v comfortable. Perhaps the pool could benefit from some heating but otherwise an exceptional experience. We will return!

My husband and I stayed here for 2 months. It was wonderful. We had lovely breakfast and dinner. The decor was so original and the room was incredibly comfortable- it even had air conditioning. We were some of the only tourists from America that were in town but everyone was so friendly and welcoming. We visited a few wineries and overall enjoyed our time here very much.

This is a beautifully designed auberge with very “coolly” decorated rooms, and fantastic food, all set in a very pretty hill-side village. Dinner involved a sharing menu for two people served on the terrace overlooking the quiet village centre. We enjoyed a spectacular gazpacho, very tenderly cooked lamb and a delicious chocolate fondant. Breakfast the following morning was just as good with a great range of patisserie, home made jam, yogurt and fruit.

We discovered this hotel when we were in the Macon area buying some wine. It rates two stars in the Michelin Guide and I am not sure that I would rate it that high. Our room was large and well set out with the bath and two wash hand basins in the open space of the whole area. The shower and lavatory were neatly closed in. Clean and very well designed though there are never enough places where you can put your sponge bag, electric toothbrush and anything else that you need when using the basins. ||||Our dinner is hard to describe. My partner thought that it was superb and would return tomorrow but, alas for me it was not a success, and I hasten to add that this was because I do not like spicy food. Perfect and highly imaginative cooking, delicious large and modestly priced glasses of champagne and an impressive wine list. ||An impressive choice of fruit, bread and cakes for breakfast. ||Exemplary service and the final bill was not at all unreasonable.

We spent a night here en route to Ales, celebrating our wedding anniversary. This is a fabulous hotel - don't expect to be ridiculously pampered by the staff - yet it is quirky and individual and we loved it. We stayed in Gingembre room, which was spacious, beautifully furnished and extremely comfortable. The degustation menu was a complete treat, albeit lengthy, with first class cuisine throughout. Breakfast was served on the sunny terrace and was delicious. A really good find and we would definitely return.
