Auberge du Sombral - Les Bonnes Choses

"In this house at the foot of the Château des Lapopie, you can be sure that good things – Les Bonnes Choses – are to come! Enjoy the pleasant cuisine du terroir, in which local ingredients are the star (lamb, foie gras, cheese... ). There are a handful of pretty guestrooms, if you wish to stay on in this village overlooking the Lot." - Michelin Inspector

I recently had the pleasure of esting at Auberge du Sombral, and I was thoroughly impressed. The ambiance was inviting, the service impeccable, and the food surpassed all expectations. From perfectly seared scallops to a culinary masterpiece as the main course, every dish showcased creativity and flavor expertise. The staff's attention to detail and genuine hospitality made the experience truly memorable. I highly recommend it for an exceptional dining adventure.

We tried the restaurant only. Everything was good, food from fresh products, nice service. Service was slow but they acknowledged and offered us the coffees.

SUPERB luncheon. Fantastic meal, beautiful dining rooms, very warm welcome. I started with one of the specialities, mushrooms in a puff-pastry ramekin. Very pretty, very delicious. Then lamb and potatoes, excellent. The dessert, a walnut cake with a layer of mousse, was so-so, slightly dry cake. Excellent wine. The whole experience was wonderful, memorable. Overall, the most enjoyable dejeuner I had during my 3 months in France. The setting and service are extraordinarily charming.

This little family owned inn sits in a lovely location in a charming hilltop town. It’s a place to relax and enjoy walking the hilly streets with its quaint buildings. Rooms are small with newly remodeled modern bathrooms. There is not much to do here which is part of its charm. The hotel offers free parking up the hill in the village parking lot. Breakfast is basic but good. WiFi does not work in the rooms, only on the main floor and the patio. There are several dining options in town. We have stayed here 3 different times over the past 20 years and continue to return for the peace and quiet during a busy trip.

Yes I agree the approach is not easy and best to get there in the daylight but try for late afternoon so the tour buses have gone. Yes unbelievably they manage to get coaches up there. The auberege is perfect given the setting and the rooms in keeping with the charming old village. It was a hot day and and air conditioning would be welcome but possibly it is felt not to be in keeping. Breakfast was simple but good quality ingredients. I would certainly recommend for anyone wanting to sample a night at St Cirq Lapopie. A wonderful experience

The hotel is in the heart of Sait-Cirq-Lapopie, which is car free, other than dropping off your luggage. Parking is in a city lot that is an easy walk away. The hotel was charming, with a very attentive owner and staff. Our room had a garden view, which was lovely.||||It's location provides easy walking to a number of great hotels - some of the best food we enjoyed in France.
