This small hotel is located right in the heart of Old Quebec City, in a historic building, on a pedestrian cobble-stoned street. This means it has a TON of charm and is very convenient to many sites. It also means the steps are steep, at times you need to fight restaurant patrons to get into the building and there are a lot of quirks to the room. But if your point of view is that this is part of the experience, then this hotel is for you! We stayed in the first room up the stairs, number 10. Despite the restaurant being right downstairs, we did not have any problem with noise, from the restaurant or the street. And....like I said, the big win here is the price. It was quite affordable, given the price! We payed under $800 American for three nights. Tourist information and a place to exchange money are merely steps away and you can't go 10 feet without running into another restaurant. You are also very close to where you can pick up the sight-seeing busses. ||Tip: Know before you go! Parking garages are called "Stationnements" and are mostly underground in this area of Old Quebec. The closest to Auberge Place d'Armes is "Hotel de Ville" located at 29 Cote de la Fabrique, Quebec, QC G1R 5M1. There may be several entrances, it is hard to tell. And the ceilings to the garage are very low, so keep that in mind. Our Jeep Cherokee was fine. The garage seemed safe and they even had public restrooms and classic music playing. Fancy! The cost for three days was about $55 ca and we paid by credit card. Park here and wheel your luggage over to Rue Saint-Anne to the hotel. It is not far...but wheels do not like cobblestones. ||Thoughts for the Hotel: Some small quirks could be fixed to make the stay even more enjoyable. |1.) Places to hang towels. We had to get creative as there were no places to hang towels to dry. |2.) Update the directions for the shower. I found directions in the dresser, but they listed a third knob, which we did not have. I figured out how to turn on the water and how to get the water to come out of the rainshower overhead...but could not figure out how to adjust the temperature. So scolding hot showers is what I got.|3.) You may want to ventilate the closet or armoire that houses the refrigerator. When we kept the doors closed it got quite warm in there and I would hate to see a fire happen in this lovely building. |4.) Plane out the bottom of the door to room 10 so that it does not rub against the floor, making a gouge on the floor and making the door difficult to open. |5.) Make sure that folks who book room #10 know that there is no privacy when using the shower. The shade provided is quite clever, but it only covers one side. |6.) Encourage front desk staff to be a bit more outgoing with guests. Checking in to see if there is anything we needed or if we needed to be pointed in the right direction for our sightseeing needs would have been a nice touch. As someone who has worked in the hospitality business - both inns and restaurants - this can go a long way to making guests feel welcome. |Other than that, wonderful property and excellent value!
