Google
First time at Augie’s Mussels and we were so excited! The food was great — we had the Nduja Mussels (recommended by our server), frites, and wings with both Augie’s sauce and green curry. Everything was full of flavor — 8/10 for the food. The service was excellent, 10/10. Our server was friendly, helpful, and made great suggestions. The only disappointment was the restroom cleanliness. We arrived right at opening (11 a.m.), and they were already in rough shape — they looked like they hadn’t been cleaned the night before (or possibly even longer). It was a surprising contrast to the rest of the experience. We’d still come back for the food and service, but hope management pays a little more attention to the restroom upkeep.

Went in on Monday night and got sat right away. Service was friendly and attentive. Food was tasty, came out quick and good portions. Cute spot with great little patio area. The reason for only 3 stars for atmosphere was the live music was SO loud we were literally shouting to try to talk. The live music is nice, but you need to be able to have a conversation as well.

Google
I had a free weekend, so hubby and I traveled to Alexandria Va for a date night. Angie's did not disappoint on any level! There was a bit of a wait, but the staff saw us trying to decide on what to do and quickly found us a seat upstairs. The upstairs bar had two exceptional service specialists, Mike and Denzel. They made sure we were well taken care of and answered all of our questions while we decided on our meal. The food was delicious and made us want to come back and try other selections! We appreciate the excellent service and look forward to our next visit!

Google
Fanatic outdoor patio, also some tables out front. Multiple tv’s on the patio, so it’s great for sports. Awesome beer list. Great food. Tough to get a spot outside on a nice day, so try to make reservations if you can.

Lizelle Kopinski

Google
This place is consistently amazing. We have been many times before, always on the patio… most recently we went for Mother’s Day and they gave moms carnations. Order the green curry mussels and ask to get them extra hot (if you can handle spice). Good food and good service.

Christian Hoehner

Google
A reliable place to grab a drink and watch some sports, especially if it’s a nice day and you want to enjoy the sunshine. The outside patio really can be lovely and the tables can accommodate a large group. The service can be slow as the bar staff can easily get overwhelmed on a busy day. So know what you want and be assertive in getting a waiter’s attention. The food is filling with good variety, but certainly not fine dining…just fun bar fair.

Google
Augie's is Amazing. Our waiter was super friendly. I had the blackened salmon sandwich with homemade chips and my husband had the cheesesteak sandwich with fries. Hands down one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. The chips, well, let's just say I could have made a meal on those alone. We'll done folks.

Jasmine Beasley

Google
Mussels were delicious. Service and ambience is nice too. A great beer garden. I will come again. Only reason i didn’t give 5 stars is because I think they could update their menu or add a little more variety.

Yelp
food was great, found my new favourite drink and Mario was THE BEST. will be back asap

Yelp
Mussels! That's what Augie's is about! Augie's Mussel House and Beer Garden in Old Town Alexandria! Are we glad we visited! And with that kind of name... what do we order? hmmmm.... of course, Mussels and Beer!!!! Shout out to Valentina who recommended the sumptuous dishes! Nduja Mussels and Eastern Shore Mussels! Checkmout the Mussel Menu! Nduja is described to have pepperoni. Garlic, shallot, Thai chili, white white & cream! Mouth-watering! Eastern Shore is described to have corn, sausage, seafood broth, old bay, potato AND Augie's Lager! This was the BEST meal of our trip! A definite must try! Highly Recommended! p.s. Valentina.... thank you for recommending Gooey Butter Cake Ice Cream at Jeni's! We went there too! Yelp
I do like this restaurant. Busy place with outdoor seating as well. Food is good but had a very bad experience with a waiter. $700 in cash was lost...possibly there, falling out of my partners pocket. (Yes I saw the cash.) We were short $1.50 after ordering a big meal. It was late, we were on our bikes and did not take the cards but had withdrawn money. We had also been there multiple times, we were living in the area. As we were frantically looking for the lost cash, the waiter stated "I've heard this story before and it doesn't end well. I have to call the police." He was rude, condescending and least of all couldn't care less seeing we were so upset. He finally let us go after what I would call "harassment" and causing us even more distress. I went back the next day and gave him more than what was owed. I reminded him..."This can happen to any one, and one day you will be in this position." He tried to dismiss me but again told him it was not right to carry on and embarrass someone to that degree. Especially since we were there frequently. He was nasty. One of the other waitresses confirmed this the next day. You need to assess every situation on its circumstances. The actions were demeaning and unnecessary for $1.50. (We do believe the money was dropped sitting at the outside bar, with people and staff behind us and talking with us. It was dark. We cannot state that for sure, but the cash was lost only a few minutes before entering or right there sitting at that outside area on hightop chairs.) It was terrible behavior. Unwarranted, demeaning, threatening and far from normal behavior. Wow! Kat (Educated as an R.N.)

Yelp
I've given this place a benefit of a doubt for so long, but, now, it's time to call a spade a spade: this place sucks. The renovation that the was done prior to opening is great. It looks comfortable and welcoming, but it isn't. They have great live music to sucker you in, but after that, prepare to be treated like crap. It's not that the customer is always right, the customer is NEVER right. Period. Tonight was just the icing on the cake. As they just want massive customer turnover to increase their bottom line, you are insignificant to them. I got up from the bar to go to the bathroom, and when I returned, my seat was given away. I hadn't even paid yet. "You can stand." is what I got in reply. The bartenders will lavish attention on you if you are a pretty girl. If you are a guy or an unattractive woman, good luck on getting a drink. Even if you get a drink or food, is it what you ordered? Probably not. The bartenders are unfriendly, unhelpful, and should be unemployed. This place looks great from the street, but don't be fooled. There are much, MUCH, better places up and down King Street. Let the pretentious fools hang here.

Yelp
Came for the finals. Beautiful beer garden. The set up was beautiful you could sit inside and still get a cool breeze coming through the bar which was connected to the outside. We sat at the bar. The bartenders were extra nice. One gave me some orange slices to snack on. We just ordered fries as we had ate earlier. I'm not a big fry fan but in house fries and multiple sauces is always a win. They were fresh and hot. The drinks were strong and nice. Summer time fine was fruity and light. The uncle Rey tasted like strong chocolate drink. Would totally come back. There are TVs everywhere, great for game nights. Can't wait to come back and try the mussels
google avatar

Yelp
Went on a weeknight and the beer garden was packed, but regular outdoor seating was open against the street. Great, friendly service and food came out piping hot. The muscles are a good shareable portion but definitely need something else for substance. Fries look dense but they are crispy and had good sturdiness for all the flavorful sauces. Definitely need to go back and try the different types of muscles

Yelp
Visiting from Texas and we were in search of some stellar seafood with solid kid options- look no further. We did the Mediterranean mussels to start (even the kids loved them), had an amazing bowl of pasta (a spicy pasta dish with prawns) to die for, and the kids burgers were phenomenal (per the two who ate the meals). Will absolutely go back again (maybe even this trip!)
google avatar

Diana L.

Yelp
My friends and I got outdoor seating; unfortunately, the only available was along the street. Not ideal, but we got the afternoon sun so it built the ambiance of the dinner for us. The outdoor seating closer to the restaurant seemed like a fun place to sit too. I ordered the Eastern Shore Mussels. It was a little salty and too oily for my taste. I thought it was weird that the beer menu differ from the upstairs and downstairs. Our waiter was nice and quick with the drinks, but once he disappeared, we didn't see him for a while. Then, he got the check all messed up with missing drinks, wrong entrees on tabs. I've heard some of the other stuff is good, but I wouldn't go out of my way to try this place out.
google avatar

Brigette K.

Yelp
Whenever I come here I usually get the mussels because they are so good. They have so many options and you really can't go wrong. I usually sit at the bar and have had good service. The outside is also great during warmer weather and you can bring your dog! One thing to note is the cost has definitely gone up. A draft beer is now either $10 or $14 depending on the size. The mussels are $21 and fries are an extra $9 if you want them. So for a single dinner for one person be prepared to spend $40+ which is a bit ridiculous when you think about it. This makes me come here less. The food is enjoyable but cost is high - keep that in mind.
google avatar

Laura S.

Yelp
I love the scallops here. The outside area is a great place to chill with the dog. There's a wide variety of wine and beer on draft. We've come a bunch of times, brought guests, and have held events here. But why does the management half the time have to be annoyed you're there? Yesterday my partner went in to tell the host/front staff that we'd like to be seated outside with the dog. When he came back with the staff, I got told, please do not come directly in to sit from the outside. I said oh, I didn't think you wanted me to walk my dog through the inside which is why I sent my partner in to ask to be seated. No response. Note that there's other people who walked up after us with dogs, and didn't go inside and ask to be seated, and no one had a rude word to say to them. In addition to the attitude, the lack of help from the manager is not welcoming (he couldn't recommend certain beer types, says the menu is long and changing so take a look at it ourselves). It's not a cheap place either so I except better service. (Or at least not be scolded for something illogical.) Sadly we will be finding a better go-to in the future.

Yelp
My husband and I have been coming here regularly now for the past ~9 months. We have been through almost every item on the menu by now, intentionally, and have gotten to know the bar staff. We cannot say enough positive things about Augie's; it is our go to date night in the neighborhood and the food is absolutely phenomenal!!! Our favorites are the pasta dishes, the green curry mussels, the steak frites, and the French dip . The service at the outside bar is excellent. The atmosphere in the courtyard is hard to beat. We will be coming here at least once a month forever!!!
google avatar

Marc S.

Yelp
First time here. Small place with outdoor dining, just too cold to be outside for me! Had Tennessee Hot Chicken appetizer, very tasty with a good sauce. Not a lot of experience with Tennessee hot chicken, but this was tasty, and I enjoyed it. Had mussels recommended by our server, Mike A., his recommendation was spot on! His first question, "is this your first time here?" GREAT WORK MIKE! When I replied it was he quickly highlighted the menu after asking what we liked. His recommendations were spot on! My wife had "Josh's Banging Burger" made perfect to order, and the mussels I had were fantastic! When we return to the area, our son lives nearby, we will be back to Augie's Mussel House $ Patio. Next time will be in the Spring or Summer, so we will sit on the patio. Had to add on, just went to the Men's Room and found a lot of humor. Rarely said, if ever, love the urinals! Just had to say!!

Yelp
Came here looking early friday evening. Had no reservations but was able to be seated promptly. The outdoor patio is a good vibe, also dog friendly. We started off with some beers which were fantastic. the sweet potato beer was light and hoppy, my friend described it as a warm seasonal beer, it also didn't taste like sweet potato which was good for him. the euphoric dream is a really good ipa also. it was also light and hoppy. We were short on time so only ordered apps. the dry wings were perfectly cooked and seasoned. the nashville hot tenders were actually spicy and so juicy. came with four tenders. everything in the menu looked great. i would like to return here maybe during the week M-T when they do happy hour.
google avatar

Chandler D.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing service while here! DJ was very attentive and did an amazing job waiting on us as well as bar tending at the same time! We came here during restaurant week and wanted to try a different spot that we hadn't been too before. The food here is DELICIOUS HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I can't wait to come back here and try something different!
google avatar

Fred B.

Yelp
I have a hard time not order Nduja Mussels which are my favorite. So I went down steak and frites path as a change of pace. Excellent hanger steak and they have several dipping sauces for fires and steak. Live music, great service and great food again.
google avatar

Sophia N.

Yelp
I came here after finding that the Alexandria Oktoberfest had neither beer nor bratwurst. It had exactly what I was craving and really hit the spot during a time of need and utter despair. They have a wide draft beer selection and typical bar food. We sat by the road, but they also have a small gated outdoor space as well. We were pretty cold with the wind, but their staff informed us that the outdoor heaters were broken, so bring warm clothes in case.
google avatar

Beck E.

Yelp
Loved the evening I spent here in the beer garden. The nduja mussels were fantastic with an nice spicy kick, and the assortment of dips with the frites complemented them well. There is also a kids' menu, and my toddler enjoyed the pasta. It was a busy night, so service was spotty at times, but always friendly. I can't remember his name (Terry? Terrence?), but he was really charming, funny, and on the ball.
google avatar

Briar R.

Yelp
I had a reservation for 14 people elsewhere that fell through the day of our dinner, so I called Augie's on a recommendation from a co-worker. The guy I spoke to said "we really want to help you out; we're going to make this work for you." And they did! I personally cannot have mussels but most everyone in the party tried them and raved about them. The drinks were really good! I didn't see a kids menu but I didn't ask for one because my son wanted the steak frites. Delicious and a bit of a hidden gem. Recommend!
google avatar

Sebrina B.

Yelp
This is really a 4.5 but I am feeling generous. I am so in love with the mussels from this place. The toppings made a broth that was definitely sop your crusty bread worthy. My friends did not have the mussels they had steak and a chicken dinner that I don't recall. But they were pleased with their order. In true only child fashion I did not taste theirs since I didn't want to share mine. The main area of improvement would be the long wait there was to order once my full table arrived. Arguably I took this risk when I arrived early and chose to sit so I could get to drinking after a long week, but in my view still an area that could be improved.
google avatar

Angela B.

Yelp
My husband is a HUGE craft beer lover, and Augie's was a verified venue on the Untappd app. They also had a full bar for me, so to Augie's we went! Everyone was so welcoming. The bartenders each introduced themselves and were great at checking in to see if we needed anything. The regulars were so friendly too! There were a lot of good food options to choose from, but if you're at a restaurant named after mussels, you have to go with the mussels. I ordered the Eastern Shore mussels and they were delicious. I loved the corn, sausage and potatoes mixed in and THAT BROTH! So good. I slurped that up. My husband ordered the Jalapeno Popper Grilled Cheese. He ate it so fast, I didn't get a bite! If you are in Old Town Alexandria, you have to stop in. Go for the mussels!
google avatar

Megan M.

Yelp
Had a birthday here and love the atmosphere! Would stick to wine or beer, the Halloween margarita was not great but the cheese fries are perfection!

Sadie A.

Yelp
I moved here from Kansas this past August and the first restaurant and overall experience that convinced me to move here was Augies. The beer selection is amazing. The service is always great. Their mussels are delicious. I've tried almost all of the options but can't wait to go back and try more. The love music they have there is always great. Best place on King street.
google avatar

Sara L.

Yelp
Great atmosphere staff was friendly and helpful and tons of little pups that make you smile! Lots of gluten free options! All the food was yummy and came out so fast!
google avatar

Arielle H.

Yelp
Gem in old town Alexandria that has 2 indoor bars and outdoor seating. Originally came for dinner options but arrived too early so tried lunch pairings. Flavors nor service was disappointing. Nashville chicken tenders could have been spicier. I expected heat and was slightly disappointed with size/presentation of tenders. Will be returning when it's warm out to experience the outdoor seating
google avatar

Sydney C.

Yelp
Great place! Came in off the street for lunch on a Friday and asked to sit outside. Seated immediately. Really nice and inviting patio atmosphere. We ordered the chicken sandwich, a Caesar salad and 2 house margs. Everything was fantastic. Our server was super nice. Definitely coming back!
google avatar

Abigail C.

Yelp
Discovered this place as a happy accident during a search for N/A Spirits for sober spouse. Not only do they offer two real mocktails (not just juice concoctions) but their regular cocktails are generous pours and on point. Since mussels are their specialty, that's what was for lunch. They have a long list of preparations which made it hard to choose. We ended up going with a grilled peach one that was so refreshing on this hot summer day. The pound of mussels are served with crostini which is perfect for soaking up the saucy goodness. The service was attentive and quick and there is an outdoor patio that would be lovely once the weather cools down. Even if mussels aren't your thing, the rest of the menu looked delicious as well. Go see the people at Augies!
google avatar

Jamaris B.

Yelp
The service was good. We sat at the top floor. I got this seafood pasta with extra shrimp. The bread was kinda hard but no complaints. They had outdoor seating and was dog friendly.
google avatar

Elvin M.

Yelp
Really enjoyed this spot. We stopped by for an early lunch and they didn't disappoint. The mussels were excellent and the service was exceptional. We sat outside and it was a great outside space. We ordered other tood items from the menu and they were prepared really well. Definitely will be returning soon.
google avatar

Thomas G.

Yelp
Not a good experience on a Friday night. Bartender was more interested in her friend sitting at the bar than serving customers. Not friendly and snootie! I can see why they weren't busy on a Friday!

Ericka F.

Yelp
Amazing Staff, great service and hospitality. Trey is the absolute best. The food and drinks are great. Good spot in old town. Open late too

J. J.

Yelp
Burger came in raw. Not undercooked, but raw. Couldn't eat because of food safety concerns. French dip tasted like it was cooked in sodium. It was not good at all. The dog got a full French dip sandwich when we got home.
google avatar

MichiganMan M.

Yelp
Second visit, same experience. We come here to grab a beer and think maybe we'll grab some food. Then we have to deal with the snotty bartender. Ok, guess we'll finish the beers and leave. Sad. This place has potential, but hiring poor bartenders doesn't help. There won't be a third time.
google avatar

Susan E.

Yelp
Oh my....the mussels are exceptional! My husband and I have dined at Leon's, the premier mussel restaurant, in Brussels and Paris, and in our opinions, Augie's were better. We ordered the Rosé and Mediterranean mussels, which were quite reasonable at $21.00. They were so delicious, we had a second Mediterranean order to split between the two of us. Our server, Shawn, provided outstanding service. He was very professional and attentive without being intrusive. The beer selections were also quite impressive. Augie's is our "go to" place whenever we come to Old Town. You absolutely will not be disappointed!
google avatar

Eric M.

Yelp
Tollie is the best. He is the best. He gave the greatest advice on beer and let me stay late.

Mary Annn J.

Yelp
Service and atmosphere was delightful! Went on a Sunday early afternoon on a beautiful day- sat outside , which was awesome with tree, lights, fans. Sports on all the TVs... My plan was to get an Augie's burger... really in mood to try one... but we ordered mussels and fries as a precursor-- took a recommendation from our very nice server Emily on which type of mussels to order... I forget the name of mussels... they have like a dozen different kinds.... But they were AMAZING!!!! As was were the fries!!!! Coupled with a glass of wine - I was stuffed! Sadly no room for my Augie's burger... I WILL BE BACK TO TRY THAT! But I Do NOT regret the mussels and fries--- it was so worth it!

Shel S.

Yelp
Nice bar/restaurant with indoor and outdoor spaces. Even some music on some nights. We had the oysters and a few beers/cocktails in our group. All were great and amazing recommendations from our bartender Trey. He was super helpful. We will be back.
google avatar

Mei T.

Yelp
This restaurant is known for its mussels, so of course we had to try it out! We ordered the spicy grapefruit mussels. It was good, but nothing particularly special about it. The order came with 2 tiny pieces of toast that might be enough for a toddler. The spicy broth was good, so it would've been nice if we had more toast for dipping. The fresh fried mozzarella were really great, very cheesy! It was nicely breaded and flavorful. The French onion soup was terrible! Consume a bowl and that will be your sodium intake for the month! It was so incredibly salty that it was not edible. They had a very nice selection of beer. Service was average, ambiance was nice. Would I come here again? No. Well, maybe for the fried mozzarella....
google avatar

Mary R.

Yelp
The service was phenomenal! Everything we ordered was from his recommendation! Great craft beer selection! It's fall so we ordered the pumpkin latte blonde from Sycamore brewery. I know...we're "basic" lol They have an awesome outdoor area! Love music, lots of TV's for game days and dog friendly. They'll bring you a cup of water as well as a bowl for your fur baby!

Danielle B.

Yelp
This was a hidden gem for me!!! The patio is absolutely dreamy. The food was so yummy - elevated bar food. I got the ribs and the sauce was nothing i had ever had before. the drinks were average to me. I am not a beer gal so i got a cocktail and it wasn't spectacular but the beers looked fresh and chilled!
google avatar

Janelle P.

Yelp
I ordered the hummus dip.. it was pretty tasty, I liked how they sprinkled goat cheese on top on the dip. The presentation was nice however the pita bread was kind of cold. The staff was friendly, if the weather is nice I recommend sitting outside. My daughter ordered the blackened thigh with dirty rice and cajun cream sauce. She said it was cooked perfectly!!
google avatar

Nia S.

Yelp
Great patio. Ordered 1/2 Cobb salad and it looks great. Nice beer list. Lots of choices
google avatar

Laci G.

Yelp
Was a great experience. I'm not a beer person but they have a cider beer this time of year that was yummy. The apps were good and the live music very lively.. nice eating outside on the patio!
google avatar

Gene K.

Yelp
Looks like a cool place. Didn't eat there so can't speak to the food but the drinks are ridiculously overpriced compared to other places we visited around old town and on King St. I can handle an overpriced drink on occasion but when I order a bourbon for $20 it should never be severed in a plastic cup. All cocktails and beer were served in plastic. Enough said!
google avatar

Alex P.

Yelp
I'll start with the positives! The food here was pretty good! I had the burger, we also ordered some mussels and the cheese steak rolls. We had a larger group of 6, so we reserved online without issue. The downside to this restaurant was the lack of AC on a 90+ degree evening. They also had all of the windows shut up so there was no air. I was so hot that I only ate two bites of my burger.i felt almost sick it was so hot. My friends were using menus to fan themselves. The wait staff was not attentive so we kept trying to get refills for drinks or water without service. We did ask to wait initially for the last member of our party to arrive before ordering. But it took almost 3 hours to receive our food, eat and pay. I had to flag down the waitress just to get a bill. I would love to try this place again, but something has to be done about the lack of AC or maybe open the windows to let ventilation in. Otherwise I would wait until fall when it's cooler.

Yelp
I ducked in to Augie's for some World Cup soccer and came back later for their world-class mussels. The restaurant's moules menu features more than a half-dozen varieties, with frites and dipping sauce as a worthy side option. I got the Nduja mussels and nearly licked the bottom of the bowl, after already having sensually slurped the spicy broth. The scallops also are supposedly unrivaled in the area. I tried a beer and a cocktail. Both were solid. I highly recommend this place!

Yelp
Was in town visiting- came for lunch. The outdoor space looked nice and would come back for summer. Casual environment, friendly and attentive service. Plenty of beer selections, and the food was good. We ordered to share. The Beets Salad was fresh and light. The Wings (not sure what flavors were ordered), but they were flavorful. The Mussels were perfectly cooked and juicy- The broth was light but tasty. Food came out quick and timed well.

Yelp
Myself and two friends went to Augie's yesterday evening for some food and drinks. We frequent Old Town and one of the friends I was with actually owns one of the local bars. It takes a lot for me to write a review...good or bad. But especially a bad one. I understand a bad day, but every single time I've ever been to Augies, I have had nothing but terrible service. Yesterday had to be the worst service I ever had. We were seated directly at the bar. We waited sometimes 10-15 minutes for a drink after we had asked for one, and a few times had to ask more than once because they kept forgetting. The bartender rolled his eyes at us many times. None of them were friendly but one younger bartender was extremely rude. It was almost unbelievable. In the end, we told him that it was extremely poor service and that he rolled his eyes at us many times and he said to us "Is that not ok?" No, sir...that's not okay. You work in the service industry and we were nothing but kind to you. After we left and my friend took care of the check for all 3 of us...we thanked her and told her we hoped she didn't tip him, and she said "I actually tipped him 70%, because I believe in teaching a lesson with kindness...but he will remember me and I will never be back there." I will also never return. It's such a shame though, because sitting outside in the garden is so beautiful when the weather is nice, especially with live music and I love the food there, but they literally have the worst servers and bartenders in all of Old Town, so it's completely written off for myself and my friends, going forward. Save your money and support other local bars & restaurants in Old Town where you have some of the best service industry staff out there. Don't waste your money on Augie's.

Yelp
The mussels are OUT OF THIS WORLD! The service was phenomenal!! The drinks were very tasty and strong but in a good way. The outdoor patio was cozy, I loved that it's heated when it's cold out.

Yelp
Our favorite place in Alexandria! Great outdoor patio, not as busy as the restaurants closer to the water and often time the have live music. If you're looking for a chill bar vibe would definitely recommend!
