The 22 Best Bakeries In London - London - The Infatuation

"For: Sourdough loaves and fresh-out-the-oven ginger cookies August Bakery is a warm, friendly Battersea neighbourhood cafe with the smell of freshly baked loaves wafting out the door, and a counter of pastries ranging from gorgeously uniform pain au chocolat, to warm, caramelised ginger cookies. Locals come in, mid-dog walk, for a flat white and a buttery, perfectly salted croissant, and while the bakes change daily, you’re playing it safe with whatever you pick here." - rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, daisy meager, heidi lauth beasley

August Bakery - Review - Battersea - London - The Infatuation

"The first time we stepped into August Bakery, there were complimentary hunks of seeded sourdough slathered with salted butter on the counter—and we’ve been fans of this Battersea spot ever since. It’s a warm, friendly neighbourhood cafe with the smell of freshly baked loaves wafting out the door, and a counter of pastries ranging from gorgeously uniform pain au chocolat, to warm, caramelised ginger cookies. Locals come in, mid-dog walk for a flat white and a buttery, perfectly salted croissant, while laughter can be heard from friends catching up over hefty sausage rolls in the spacious cafe space in the back. The bakes change daily, but you’re playing it safe with whatever you pick here. Just make sure to get one of those excellent seeded sourdough loaves to go. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Pause Unmute" - Rianne Shlebak

London’s New Restaurant Openings

"While we spent lockdown completing all of Netflix's crime documentaries, August Bakery was working hard as a micro-bakery called Robin’s Bakery & Provisions. Fast-forward to today and they’ve got a permanent spot in Battersea Rise. As well as loaves and bakes, there’s coffee from Colonna and a cafe area coming soon. For now you can drop by and hang out in the coffee bar." - team infatuation

This place is absolutely GORGEOUS This coffee shop is a hidden spot in Clapham Junction. I stayed there for quite some time because it was so relaxing. The main room, the lighting, the plants … food and coffee were delicious too. The staff was amazing as well. It really felt like a living place. Welcoming and relaxing. I took so many pics. I have to come back and I definitely recommend ! See you soon I hope.

This review is long overdue, but August bakery is the best thing to happen in SW in recent memory. I usually intermittently fast, but August is my one exception. Inside dining is light filled, airy and open and quiet enough to have actual conversation or eat and enjoy in peace. I have tried most of their baked goods over the course of several visits alone as well as with family and friends. Although I've recently moved about an hour away I still visit periodically as it is worth the trip! Coffees are consistently great. Their pastries and cookies are excellent, but EXCEPTIONAL special mentions go to 1. Kouign-amman (which is not available every day, unfortunately) as it is one of the best I've ever had, offering the perfect balance of flaky crispy goodness and lightly sweetener lamination with a beautifully delicate yet moist and buttery inside. I will get this EVERY time I go if available 2. Ricciarelli - they offer different varieties which are all great. They've definitely nailed this down with rich flavours and the ideal chewiness in every heavenly bite. Again - will get any variety each visit. 3. Sausage roll - it's delicious and generous in size. Amazing puff pastry as you would expect, and quality sausage inside. Great if you're feeling extra hungry for something a little bit more substantial. 4. Spinach and mushroom with sesame savory pastry - rich and delicious and a great option if you don't want something sweet. I suggest you try everything and discover your own favourites

Delightful friendly staff. Good relaxed vibes. Airy with very high ceilings. I appreciated that the music was just at the right volume for people to enjoy a conversation without having to raise their voice. Coffee and Bakery are great. Love the green cups and plates 💚

I live around the corner so I've tried a lot of what they offer. Everything I've had has been delicious : the sesame miso sourdough is amazing and stays fresh for a long time (that's how you now it's a great sourdough), their croissants and pains au chocolat are perfectly laminated and crunchy, and their other pastries (cookies, banana bread etc) are flavourful and not overly sweet. Very happy to have this bakery in SW London It holds a candle to the very popular (and more expensive) ones in central/north east London. Sure, there can be a queue on weekends but it moves fast and is totally worth it !

Such a hidden gem. A little hole in the wall bakery with delicious fresh sourdough, amazing pastries and super helpful staff. The sourdough had great crunchy outside with soft internal. Croissants were flakey and delicious (recommended chocolate). A small line out the front but 10/10 worth waiting - and as good a pastry as anywhere in the city.

There was a long line to get into August Bakery, but it was so worth the wait. Easily the best bakery in town. The selection of sweet and savoury bakes is fantastic – we tried a bit of everything, and it was all excellent. The miso sourdough stood out in particular – really interesting flavour and perfectly baked. What makes it even better is that things keep coming fresh out of the oven – the smell of the bread, croissants, and pastries is honestly irresistible. If you're sitting in, good luck not going back for seconds (or thirds). A brilliant spot that lives up to the hype
