"It can be hard to come by good soul food in the ’burbs, but Aunt Berta’s kitchen has been providing Southern staples for years now. The famous Jenna turkey wings, baked with Cajun spices, are the favorite here, but don’t sleep on the fried fish and grits platters. The sides are plentiful as well: collard greens, macaroni and cheese, candied yams, and much more." - Ernest Owens, Kae Lani Palmisano

Very rude on the phone. I tried explaining I haven’t been there in over 4 yrs and was craving the chicken & greens. I was referred to the website multiple times and asked to get off the phone since I didn’t know my order. The person taking orders was very dry and robotic. This should’ve been my sign to not order. But I hung up and went to the website.. The chicken was not seasoned as I remember and greens were bland. The Mac & cheese & candied yams are great. That’s about it. I wish I would’ve saved my $50 for 2 platters. I think there may have been a change in cooks, ownership or food quality because this is not what I ate before.. the food is barely seasoned & very bland. Last time I ate it, you can taste the love in the food I posted how much I ate, just 2 bites of 1/2 a chicken

The food was delicious 😋! I ordered a Mega Fish platter ($19.99) with collard greens and macaroni and cheese. I also ordered two turkey wings($8). The fish was crispy and freshly prepared. It was seasoned perfectly. It was NOT salty. The sides were also perfectly seasoned and fresh. The wings were moist and delicious. I picked up a banana pudding($5) too! It was so good. The counter staff are polite and efficient. This is a take out only establishment. I will definitely visit again!

The Best soul food spot in the South Jersey area so far that we have found and tried. The staff there are always positive and the atmosphere feels just the same. Parking: You may have to circle the block in order to find parking here. This establishment is located on the corner. Food: We did not see oxtail on their menu here. I did not like the desserts offered... I tried them all, and they were just okay. I would by dessert elsewhere if you ❤️❤️❤️cakes/pies/banana pudding etc. The other food offered is good 👍🏾. Setting: They have an outdoor sitting area and an indoor sitting area. Most customers seem to order food to go inside or call in advance and pick up their order to go.

I haven’t been to Aunt Berta’s in a long time (a few years), but had a taste for a fish sandwich. I arrived 20 minutes after ordering as I was told, expecting a nice hot fish sandwich. The portion size was much smaller than I recall and the fish was luke warm. Then, I decided to try the advertised soul roll, which was EXTREMELY greasy and soggy! Very disappointing.

I’ve been a few times. It’s hit or miss. The great reviews are due to it being one of the only local decent soul food spots on this side of the bridge, but when you’re from an area with a plethora of soul food spots you know good soul food. This unfortunately is not it. The mac n cheese is not bad; however the noodles are overcooked and it lacks the sharpness of extra sharp cheddar. The Cabbage is better than the collard greens. The meats are a bit underwhelming. The fried chicken is dry and the last time I got the smothered pork chop, it was inedible. Lots of fat. Weird texture. Lacked seasoning. Heavy breading and the gravy tasted like it was from the jar. They also only gave you 1 pork chop. It used to be 2 so the majority of the platter is actually sides and not the protein, which is odd. All and all, if you’re in a bind and need something then here is cool. If you have the time and energy, I’d explore else where.

Lady in the front was really nice. Listed all the items they had and told me to take my time. Picked up a church tea, and two mix n matches (2 meats and 2 sides). Got a smothered chicken and smothered pork chop with candied yams and green beans with potato. Smothered chicken and pork chop were delicious, potatoes and green beans too. Candied yams were okay, not my favorite though. Also got a Salisbury steak and fried pork chop with fries and collard greens. Pork chop was great, but they forgot the Salisbury steak so I'm not sure how that is. Got the fries on recommendation from a friend, but I thought they were just fries. A nice surprise, they came with some bread rolls wrapped on the side that I wasn't expecting. Never had church tea before, was interesting, but I thought I was picking up a sweet tea. Little disappointed that I made the mistake. Will have to come back earlier in the day to see if they just ran out of it when I was there.

This review is late, but better late than never. We hired Aunt Berta’s Kitchen to provide offsite, full service catering for my mother’s memorial service/repast in the backyard of my parents’ home in September 2024. I must say that Aunt Berta and her team were consummate and skilled professionals in handling this event. They even accommodated us when the Delaware location was fully booked for catering on our event date, by providing catering from one of their NJ locations. They arrived ahead of the scheduled time, were fully prepared, set up, served the meal and cleaned up afterward. The food was attractively presented on the buffet tables and was delicious and plentiful. We had fried chicken, salmon, turkey wings, black eyed peas, garden rice, cornbread, special cornbread, candied yams, macaroni and cheese and collard greens. The guests raved about the food and many went back for second helpings. For dessert, there were assorted cake slices arranged on a table and individually packaged in clear containers. This was convenient for the guests to select the cake type they desired, and was a hygienic way for the cakes to be served. As a bonus, Aunt Berta herself was present to oversee this event. My family and I appreciated her and her team for making a difficult time in our lives a bit easier to handle. We won’t hesitate to use Aunt Berta’s Kitchen for our future family functions.

Wife’s College graduation celebration was a total success. Thanks Aunt Berta’s and the awesome staff for providing food for 40+ guests. The food was amazing and my guests were pleased with the great taste and portions of food. The turkey wings were delicious. Many of my guests requested the location of the restaurant. Peace and blessings in your future business venture! Tre’
