"Known across the city for exceptional Montserratian fare, Auntie Vie’s is a family-owned restaurant and bakery in the heart of Dorchester. Violet Francis, known to friends and family by the nickname Auntie Vie, opened the restaurant in 2013 after running her own catering business for years. While the restaurant is known for savory entrees like their goat curry and jerk chicken, Auntie Vie’s also has a selection of house-made meat patties, not to mention an eye-catching lineup of dessert items like the pineapple turnovers, potato pudding, and Black Cake, a popular Caribbean dessert made with dried fruits that have been soaked in rum and red wine. Keep an eye out on their Instagram account for their special bake sales around Easter, Christmas, and Thanksgiving." - Katie Draisen

Yelp
Went and got a jerk chicken w/ Mac and cheese and plantains. Overall pretty good, but jerk wasn't spicy. Portions were reasonable for the price.

Yelp
This gem is located in Dorchester serving some of the best Caribbean food I've had. We went when they just opened so everything was fresh and hot. What we got - Curry Goat with rice and peas + mac and cheese - Jerk chicken with sweet plantains + candied yams - Sorrel - Fruit Punch - Pistachio Cake (recommended by the worker!) - Guava Turnover Each entree comes with two sides, and each side imo was very good- I've honestly had meh mac and cheese but was super pleased with theirs. It's a nice vibrant yellow color and not dry at allll. And the plantains were extra good cause it was soft but not mushy, and slightly salted which I liked cause it helps with the sweetness of it. They didn't skimp on the chicken- the chicken skin was so flavorful and the curry goat was 10/10, tender, and so tasty. If you've never had a sorrel drink, it's quite tart and similar to cranberries or currant flavor. Their fruit punch was also good but pretty concentrated, so you could add a bit more water to help dilute it! Loved the pistachio cake and the turnover pastry reminded me of a graham cracker crust. My only regret is not getting the bread pudding....next time.

Yelp
I dropped by Auntie Vie's this week in search of a Black-owned restaurant as I happened to be driving around the Dorchester area. I was interested to see that the restaurant features Montserratian food, as I honestly didn't know a single thing about Montserrat other than a generally Caribbean location; it was interesting reading about the island's history as I was waiting for my food. I placed my order with Violet herself and got the curry chicken with fried plantains and candied yams. The bomb! It was really a substantial portion that ended up making two meals for me, and at only $12.95, it's a steal. I also got some fruit punch, which reminded me of a fruit punch my aunt used to make as a kid. While I didn't get any of the patties, I remember seeing guava and coconut ones, and I plan to get a guava patty when I come back. This is very much a locally-owned, small restaurant sort of vibe. Do note that there really aren't any tables for inside seating, but there were about four or so chairs in the restaurant that people could use to sit down while they wait. Keep 'em coming, Auntie Vie!

Yelp
Ordered jerk chicken and pistachio cake to go--both were so so good--and while waiting we learned about Monserrat from the regulars.

Yelp
Stumbled across this cute mom/pop restaurant when I happened to be nearby and absolutely love it. Wanted to try some carribean food because it is not something I eat often. Workers were friendly. Prices were reasonable and each dishes comes with 2 slides. We went for goat and jerk chicken. Both dishes were flavorful and portions were generous. Went with rice/plantains and mash/Mac for sides. I liked how the rice and peas have a spicy kick. Glad I was able to try a little bit of everything and no complaints from me. Even had enough leftovers for dinner. Each dish was about $12-14 so was pretty reasonable. Also tried brown sugar lemonade. It was super sweet so I would recommend getting some ice and drinking it on the side. Beef patties seem fresh but were a bit on the smaller side. I would definitely come back if I happened to be in the area. No dine in though!

Yelp
I didn't take any photos because I devoured the food before I thought of it. The food is from Monserrat and it is great, BUT it's only open on the weekend. I ordered via phone and got the jerk chicken with rice and peas, one of each patty (chicken, fish, beef), and a few different desserts including the coconut turnover, the black cake, and bread pudding. First off, there prices are reasonable and servings plentiful. The jerk chicken was so tender and flavorful. I was able to share this between me and another person. The Pattie's were good - my favorite was the beef. The desserts were also good. Overall I recommend this place and for the price point, it's really hard to beat.

Yelp
Went in to collect my food and ngl i wasn't impressed. Small selection of food and I ended up getting rice and mixed vegetables. The rice tasted mediocre and, while the mixed veggies did taste better, it did have a strong buttery taste. It's not bad, but I do hope they didn't put a lot of butter in it since I'm trying to eat healthy, but it is what it is. I also didn't find the person who served me friendly. I don't plan on going back.

Yelp
Hands down the best Jamaican food I've had in the city. It was clean. The person taking the orders was nice. Service was quick. The food was flavorful. They had a good variety. I ordered the jerk pork, rice and Peas, collard greens and plantain. EVERYTHING was good. I was actually surprised at how good the greens were. My 1 year old couldn't get enough of the greens. definitely be back and would recommend everyone try it!

Yelp
Love the sweet taste chicken leg!juicy and delicious.veggies and meat composed a balanced meal.the shop is not very big but the staff are friendly

Yelp
My review is for the seafood dishes as I no longer eat meat. The positives are that this restaurant is very clean, they serve fresh juices, and the portions are generous. I had the snapper once but it was lightly battered which I didn't like. The salt fish combo is my go to. I normally have it with sweet plantains and collard greens. I've had some of their desserts and this is where it falls short for me. I had the pineapple turnover pastry but found the dough very dry. Wasn't able to finish it. And I had the potato pudding, a dessert I love but am typically only able to come by when I'm in Jamaica. The taste is close, but just not quite there. Just a heads up in case it's not reflected in the app, but they have adjusted their hours. They're now open on the weekends starting Friday's.

Yelp
Terrible service. Terrible food ratio. Terrible food quality. I live down the street before the coronavirus started my girlfriend order atleast once a month no issue with her alway filled up here plate. Mind you she's a light skin woman. I used to pick up food my girlfriend so they knew my face so they used to put what I paid for and more on the plate. Ever since the corona I can't even Enter the building even though I have high aggravated asthma so my doctor wrote me a note so I don't have to wear mask. They didn't even allow me in without a mask on even though I had face cover. Which they have over 5 signs saying if you have a face cover you all set. So they denied me with a face cover And then when I did go get my mask and came back. None of the workers had mask on. So I can't Order food without a mask and the people preparing my food don't have to wear a mask? I'm assuming the person who told me who I needed to wear a mask didn't think I can get one so I came back and ordered my food and she gave me minimum amount as possible. Charged full price for ignorance,Hypocrite workers for telling I can't be in the building for not wearing a mask and over charged for a meal that was 85% rice 10% sauce and 5% meat. Thank god I have a job so this won't be my last meal but never again and I hope people see this and don't support that type of business because it was the worst. WHATEVER TRUMP COULD DID Atleast he'll tell you he don't fuck with these type of black business they'll to your face to finesses you

Yelp
The goat was *chefs kiss* and the coconut dessert patty was delicious, would come back just for that. I love that it's a family run business and they bake all their own bread. Sadly I missed out on the Easter specials (cakes of all kinds) but will set my calendar reminder for next year!

Yelp
The food is amazing as usual but the service omg is horrid. Typically this place is sold out but the time I went after work hours. Now with whoever they have working behind the counter is ruining the business. If that person is there I'll go elsewhere to fulfill my West Indian food cravings.

Yelp
Let me start off by saying that the food is NOT JAMAICAN - it's from Montserrat! I feel like I needed to say that given all of the reviews and expectations that the food is Jamaican... Okay, now I can start my review after setting the record straight. This place is a small takeout only business. The menu is simple/straightforward and everything they make is delicious!! The curry goat, oxtail and curry chicken are flavorful and not the least bit greasy. They have really nice chicken and beef patties as well as delicious turnovers (I tried the pineapple and guava ones). The only thing I would say is that the turnovers are too sweet for me but I just ate them with plain black coffee. I bet if you have a sweet tooth you'll love their turnovers. The collard greens were delicious and not salty which is usually my complaint everywhere else that offers collards. The plantains were super sweet and soft but also not greasy. I also appreciate that the portions are pretty good and mostly packed with meat. Lastly, I appreciate the politeness and promptness of the staff that work here. Now, I will admit that it was uncomfortable to see the staff handling food without face masks. But given that the CDC stated that COVID-19 is not spread through contact with/ingestion of food I'm not too hung up on it. Overall, I appreciate this new business in town, will continue to support this business and will certainly refer customers their way.

Yelp
Finally made it across the Charles river to this Caribbean spot and it did not disappoint. The jerk pork melts in your mouth while the sweet plantains and pineapple turnovers satisfy your sweet craving. My daughter was raving about the mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese and refused to share. Entrees were fairly priced and was really quick service. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Super solid Caribbean spot. The curry goat was tasty but wished there was a little more to balance out all the rice. Good portions overall though. And I loved the coconut dessert patty. Have never had one of those before and it was spectacular!

Yelp
Super delicious Caribbean meal. Drove over 30mins from the North and it was totally worth it
