18 Restaurants Worth the Trip to Alpharetta and Milton

"Indian dishes like curries, dosas, and a variety of chaat are all served from this welcoming spot on North Main Street in Alpharetta. The owners are often greeting patrons at the door and taking orders, too. Make sure to check out the daily specials board at Aunty’s Kitchen." - Alex Leo-Guerra

Every time I checked Google to check if this spot was open, I was disappointed as they operate on limited hours. So, imagine my excitement when I finally made it here. I was a bit apprehensive about the wait time as mentioned by previous folks, but guess it was my lucky day. Got seated in less than 5 minutes, got my food and ate it all within 45 minutes. This is a restaurant where most of the items are within the $10-$20 price range. I loved the no-frills ambience that reminded me of canteen stalls in Chennai, the sweet uncle (co-owner) Mr. Ramachandran who took my order and the featherlike Appam served with flavorful veg curry. They have many vegetarian options and the service beats everything. If you are in Alpharetta and haven't visited this place, you are really missing out. The spot is located in a mall, so there are plenty of parking spots available and the store is easy to locate. I also think the entrance is wheelchair accessible.

Google
Plain paper dosa was delish and sooo fresh and crispy the Dahl puri was on point with raw mango in season. Clean and device was excellent. It’s a mom pop type spot the food is on spot. That’s why we go here !!!

Google
Visited on Women's Day and had a tasty experience! The parotta, veg kurma, dabeli, masala poori, and paneer dosa were all delicious. Service was a bit slow, but the food was worth the wait. Would definitely recommend!

We were searching for food nearby as we were passing through and found Aunty's Kitchen. After reading the reviews we decided to pass by to grab some food to go. We were met with a very frantic and not very helpful or friendly staff due to the fact that their checkout system was down. Looking through the menu we ended up finding two chaats that we were interested in trying. We ordered both of them with extra tamarind sauce. After waiting a little bit for the food it came out bagged up and ready to go. You can see from the almost see-through bag that one of the dishes must have been put in sideways because the entire bottom of the bag looked as though it was spilled. But nonetheless, we went ahead and picked up the food. Before we left we asked about the extra chutney then was given one very small sauce... We mentioned that we ordered two dishes and that this may not be enough and was told from the staff that it will definitely be enough. Which it was definitely not, FYI. Regardless of the dishes being spilled in the bag, they did taste very good.

Google
Great place for some excellent home food. Great flavors and good portion sizes. The appam was good, the gravy was great but the white chutney was too sweet. The parotta was great with great egg curry complimenting it. The misal pav was great too. Overall a good experience and great taste, when you need to be away from all those masala restaurants. This is a great goto place for good home cooked food.

Google

Google
Authentic Kerala and Marathi dishes. I was told about the place by a friend a few months ago. It was closed since then and I never got a chance to visit. Today, by chance ( a nearby restaurant was closed, so looked for one that is open), I found out it is open. Small place. Nice family like ambience. I ordered appam and stew as suggested by the manager on site. It was really tasty. He explained to me about the food, ingredients and the popularity if the items on the menu patiently. Definitely will go back to try other items.

We came to this place because we saw lots of glowing reviews how ever while the wait time was not as bad as people said and the food was mediocre. We ordered Dabeli and Usal Pav both are good but nothing great.

Yelp
I don't leave reviews often, but this restaurant, Aunties House Kitchen and Bar delivers! I saw this restaurant on Instagram, and decided to give it a try. I sat at the bar where Kayla was the bartender. She was simply amazing!!! She answered all of my annoying questions about the menu and made awesome recommendations. We had the soul rolls, smoke chicken wings, lamb chops and catfish punch-train. Omg! It was all so delicious!!!! All of the food came out in great timing (not too fast nor too slow, just right). The restaurant has a beautiful aesthetic with a very nice vibe. They even have a section of their bar dedicated to Black-Owned Alcohol Brands. The music was at a great volume to where I could still have a conversation. And the restaurant's restroom was very nice and clean! We met AJ, the owner, who is the King of Hospitality! This man is so amazing, and you can tell that he takes a lot of pride in his restaurant. I found my spot for sure! I will be back, and I will be bringing others along to experience the deliciousness of Aunties House Kitchen!

Yelp
I'm not sure I want to share the secret... although maybe the secret is out because the last time we were there this year, there was a hour long wait for our food (we were told it would take an hour ahead of time). I'm embarrassed to say that I'm not an Indian cuisine connoisseur - but my Indian friend has brought me here twice and it is the real deal. I can't list everything I've tried - because he's always in charge of ordering and all I can say is that everything is delicious. But the Pani Puri, dosa and basically anything Idli are all a must. And of course, no matter what time it is, the Aunty's Hot Coffee (filter coffee) is a must. I can't wait to stop in to Aunty's Kitchen again for my next Indian feast!!

Yelp
Tried them for the first time, food is great! Ordered tamarind rice and kerala parotta with egg curry. Tamarind rice was well made, flavored with fresh curry leaves and not too sour, had plenty of ground nuts and cashews. Quantity would feed two people easily. Parotta was soft and egg curry was smooth and delicious! Gulped down everything with hot and sweet masala chai. My only complaint is that tea was served very hot and the cup did not have a sleeve.

Yelp
After being recommended by a friend who lives in Milton, we went to this restaurant for dinner tonite. Unassuming small space with 2 tables outside and small tables inside. Family run - uncle takes orders and serves and aunty cooks/takes care of the kitchen. Uncle outside is talkative and pleasant. Food was delicious - however, at 7 pm on Saturday evening, they were already run out of a few things we wanted to eat. Appam and stew and iddiyappam. We had to find replacement menu items to order. Starches in each dish were enough but we could use a bit more of the curries. We were able to get one order of appam - it comes with 4 of them, but the stew is barely enough for 2. Overall, will go back again soon. They have several street food from other regions of India but most people were ordering the South Indian fare that they specialize in. Would have given it 5 stars if they had not run out of food and given a bit curry especially for the price charged.

Yelp
Very basic ambiance with long wait times but amazing good food. Freshly prepared after you place your order by aunty and real authentic. A must try place.

Yelp
1. Senseless wait time 2. Unclean tables 3. Piled up waste dishes on dining tables Wish there was a negative rating. Had the worst experience today at Aunty's kitchen. Inspite of us calling up the restaurant to check the dine in timings and wait time, they didn't have any courtesy at all to inform us about the wait time beforehand! Took 1.5 HOURS for an order of steamed idlies! I wonder if they just started to make the batter after we ordered! I mean, come on! This is wayyyy UNACCEPTABLE. It's strictly ONE ORDER AT A TIME FOR THE WHOLE RESTAURANT and on a first come, first time basis. I understand this priority, but for a meagre order of idlies (pre prepared hopefully) shouldn't take this much time. Let alone if they're going to steam them fresh, again shouldn't take this LOOOOONNNG ! I used to frequent this place couple months ago and most of the time, it was closed entirely for some reason or the other. This already brewed a bad reputation for this place and today's episode topped it all. Coming to the food, it was hot and alright but in no way justifiable was the quantity of chutney (it was literally the quantity of pickle an average Indian eats - photo attached) Dear Aunty's kitchen, you definitely need to change your ways of working or you might start to lose a customer by customer, just like you did today :)

Heather T.

Yelp
Excellent food and Aunty's is run by really nice family. We usually get panni puri and samosa chaat as a starter. Everything is delicious, you can't go wrong. Check to make sure they are open first, but otherwise get going and have some awesome Indian food.

Tim M.

Yelp
Today is my 4th time returning to Aunty's. I don't leave reviews often, but this place is special. Don't be afraid to try anything on the menu! Everything I've had is beyond amazing. You should be aware the food takes a bit of time to prepare - so don't plan to go here if you don't have time to wait. That isn't a negative because each dish is prepared fresh for you. Amazing quality food and I always feel great after eating here, even if I order too much food! The owner is a really good person and definitely cares about the customer experience. Vada Pav, Cheese Dosa, Pakora Chaat are my favorite dishes but the specials are also worth exploring. Tonight we discovered the Appam with Stew! Pictured below. Only available Saturday or sometimes Sunday. That was delicious

Javani S.

Yelp
Small place and limited menu but Execrlkent food. Dosa was very tasty. Filter coffee was delicious. Good service.

Yelp
Easily the best place in the neighborhood for chat and simple yet "larger than life" quantity of South Indian foods. The Kachori or Samosa chat is always a delight to have where as my recent expedition of Paneer Dosa was top notch. Wasn't expecting it to be this subtle in terms of spice at the same time tasted a whole lot better compared to all the Dosa's I have had in and around Atlanta. The Chikoo shake is just the icing on the cake. Adds more taste to your wholesome food you get there. Worth the price and definitely not expensive at all compared to other places. I even loved trying out their Malabar Parotta with Paneer and it was fabulous. The only downside being it was too much oily, way too much. My Picks: Kachori Chat and Chikoo shake Up to You Picks: Malabar Parotta
google avatar

Arpita S.

Yelp
Inconsistent. The first time I went, the appam was great! Today, i decided to take my parents with me and it was very bad. It wasn't made to order, heated in the microwave -- very evident because the sides were hard and chewy like laminated paper. We also ordered the pav bhaji and masala dosa, both of which were good.

Chitra R.

Yelp
very good fresh and delicious items; each item is prepared with so much love, care and passion. I highly recommend this place to everyone.
google avatar

Sam M.

Yelp
Friendly staff, simple setup, and delicious vegetarian food! We got the samosa chaat, masala puri, Kerala parotta with egg curry, and cheese dosa. Everything was flavorful and not greasy. My wife isn't a big fan of eggs but she still loved the egg curry. Our meal was finished with a delicious chikoo shake (must try!) and gulab jamun. Great experience! Even as meat eaters, we will come again.

Yelp
I had previous experience of eating Aunty's food in Spices Hut groceries while I was in Alpharetta. After I moved out of Alpharetta, did not get a chance to go to her first restaurant location. They closed that and opened a new one in Alpharetta now. I was craving for her panipuris as I was in that area and went in. Aunty is the only chef I believed and she was very busy with online orders. The puris are big but the stuffing and water are very little for that big puris. Also, 11pc is around 10 $ with tax... I will come back for other chat items and update this review
google avatar

Meeta K.

Yelp
Aunty's kitchen is the best Indian snacks place in Atlanta. Their dahi poori and Dabeli are super tasty.

Tal S.

Yelp
Do not go. Wait time is over an hour to get the food after you order. Service is disrespectful. Nothing good to say about the good. Save yourself the time and trouble go somewhere else. A total failure.
google avatar

Avi R.

Yelp
Wanted to see what was all the hype about on google reviews. This place def stands out for Indian chat (street food) and Dosas. The menu options are very limited (check out the pictures). The restaurant is quiet small but very well maintained and quiet clean inside. Its run by owners both inside (chef) and by desk. They are so welcoming, felt like home. The food was very good and was very fresh. The prices seem high but so is the quantity. Would def recommend this place since Alpharetta lacks a good indian street food restuarant.
google avatar

Kelly S.

Yelp
Went at 7:20, they close at 9pm but wouldn't let anyone order. Don't waste your time coming here because they won't serve you.
google avatar

Madhava C.

Yelp
Food tastes very authentic. That can be said of very few places in the US. Not many entree options but the appetizers (chats) are excellent. Must try is the pani puri. Have not had a better tasting pani outside of India. The place seems to be run by a family and the uncle at the register seemed very friendly. Will be trying again and again. Portions are a bit on the lesser side.
google avatar

Kanchan N.

Yelp
Unassuming Aunty's Kitchen is really like that relative or friend's mom who loves cooking good, healthy, yet lip smacking food and that aunty's house you never miss an opportunity to eat at. Limited changing menu that runs out if you're late, with a few beverage options. I have only seen uncle up front at the billing counter and is always sweet, simple, humble, non-salesy, unassuming, brilliant. Just like the place :) packs a punch where it most matters. No drama. The chaat items are great, special shout out to my constant favourite Masala Puri. I got a plate of puttu-kadla curry and idiyappam-stew. And another favourite chikku milkshake. It's like... love.. a warm hug, a kind smile, a deep breath. It's like finding a place that feels like home away from home. I would eat here everyday if I could.. I hope more people support honest and wonderful small businesses like Aunty's Kitchen. Amazing food that never hurts my sensitive stomach, always consistently awesome and satisfying.
google avatar

Yelp
I almost don't want to give a review because the secret would be out! These vegetarian meals are fantastic and I'm definitely now a fan. I had the chickoo shake, samosa chat and masala puri because those were the pictures on Yelp and it was delicious. I couldn't figure out what sauce went with what but who cares! No pics because we devoured everything. Excited to try some other items on their menu.

Archana E.

Yelp
While the food is very tasty, the wait is something i dread. Coffee, also took an hour for them to prepare. The ambience is ok. A small place with a capacity of around 30 people.

J P.

Yelp
Not everyone who can cook should own/run a restaurant and this one is a prime example of that! If dirty dishes piled up on the trash can and on tables is your jam then Aunty's kitchen will not disappoint. The food arrives one dish at a time for the whole restaurant. So one must order, find a seat and wait - in our case the man behind the counter said the wait would be about an hour plus. Thanks but no thanks! I'll pass on the 4 and half stars!

Yelp
Best food. Check out my video review below: https://youtu.be/xuijBcbURDY

John A.

Yelp
Excellent home cooked style food. I am an American, however,I eat a lot of Indian vegetarian food. The food here is as good, if not better than some of the restaurants in Patel plaza.Best Pav Bhaji I have had in Georgia ! MY ONLY HOPE IS THAT THEY GET A BIGGER CHALK BOARD FOR THE SPECIALS-- IT WAS SMALL AND THE WRITING CRAMPED.Otherwise, I will go here often...John

Yelp
It's been on our radar for a while and we are glad we checked Them out last week! We tried the dosa, dabeli , egg curry with Parrota and Putti ( steam rice cake - traditional Kerala breakfast ) .. authentic, healthy and delicious ! The wow factor : for Dosa were the stuffings - beetroot and baby Jackfruit options - took us down the memory lane .. Dabeli was yummy and the splash of pomegranate seeds was a creative fusion - puttu and Parotta were authentic and like out of my moms kitchen .. only open evenings and have patrons for give time for take always etc .. we are going to see more of Aunties ! Very friendly environment !
google avatar

Chandni A.

Yelp
I've visited twice. The first time, I ordered vada pav which thought was average. It was spiced right (not very authentic though). The second time, I couldn't eat beyond a single bite. It was soooo spicy that my tongue and lips were on fire. It was a to-go so I had to throw it. Dosas are very oily and pav Bhaji is a joke. Taste is blah and the quantity of the Bhaji is so less (literally just two spoons.. not kidding!) that you end up eating pav alone. Chickoo milkshake is good. Don't think I will be returning.
google avatar

Sravanthi K.

Yelp
The best homemade food I had in Atlanta! If you're a fan of chikoo shake, you're in luck!! Their menu is not vast, but every dish is home made and delicious! Would definitely go back here and try few of their other dishes :)
google avatar

Ravi R.

Yelp
This is a small family run Indian restaurant close to Windward Pkwy. We ordered dahi puri, vada pav, parotta with methi paneer and a chikoo shake. I thought the dahi puri was unique and tasty with the mango garnish. The vada pav was good and well spiced. The parotta with methi paneer was excellent. However, the parotta was on the oilier side. The chikoo shake was unique but will pass next time. The restaurant itself is a fast food style setup where you order at the counter. The ambiance is basic but it is clean and the owners are friendly. Looking forward to try out other items on their menu.

Lorraine Z.

Yelp
We went for dinner. We ordered at the register and paid there and then waited for them to call our name. Everyone there looked like regulars so we figured the reviews were correct. And they were. We had the usai sev and the mushroom dal (which was on special). Both were super great but the sev was amazing. Also had a masala tea. I felt like I was over at a friends parents for dinner and their mom was cooking their normal home meal. Which I loved.
google avatar

Aashima M.

Yelp
Probably one of the best 'home made feel' food I had in Atlanta. Tried protta, dabeli and their Sunday special appam with stew. Each item was utmost flavorful. Parotta , served with methi paneer, is literally an 'omg!' dish. Must try one if it's there when you visit, since their curries keep on changing each day. Never expected will get chikoo (Naseberry) shake out here. Overall lovely place, service is good too.Surely coming back again to try aunty's other delicacies.

Murali S.

Yelp
The options might seem limited compared to some of the other Indian restaurants in Alpharetta, but they do make up for that with the quality of the food. One of the few authentic South Indian restaurants in the Atlanta area. Everything I had tasted very good (especially the Idly). I would definitely recommend this place.
google avatar

Mehwish K.

Yelp
We have been here 2 times in the last month. So far we have gotten bhelpuri, dahi puri, pau bhaji and tea ofcourse. I loved everything but the pau bhaji. I felt the quantity was very low for the price and it was a little sweet but my husband seemed to enjoy it but then hes not from mumbai so cant really compare. Service here is really good and I love the fact how close it is from my home.
google avatar

Selva S.

Yelp
Wowwwww food.. Happened to try out this place and I would highly recommend this place if you want to taste authentic Indian food made by aunty.. Its truly an Aunty's kitchen.. Not a commercial place but a homemade food served in a hotel.. I feel so great to find out this place and I m sure I will visit this place again and again.. Parota with egg curry is unbelievable... I almost remembered my home back in India.. Aunty's passion for cooking is evident in each bite.. Uncle talks to you like a family member.. Must try place!!! Lots of love
google avatar

Sandeep G.

Yelp
Found this place on Yelp while at Costco. Decided to give it a try. The place is open only for dinner and serves only vegetarian food. They serve Chaat and South Indian food like Dosa etc. They also have a few dishes that are specialties from Kerala. We ordered, Puttu with Kadala Curry and Kerala Parotta with Egg Curry (the only non-vegetarian dish on the menu). Both were great and transported me back home. The food is just like home-cooked food and fresh. The place has a modern decor and is clean. A good addition to the neighborhood!
google avatar

Akash G.

Yelp
Found this place out of the blue, and it was excellent. Everything was fresh and felt home made. We ordered Apam and Stew, Dabeli and Parotha with one of the special dishes for the day which was paneer Methi. Everything was excellent, even the tea, cold coffee and juice was great. Do visit the place because along with the excellent food, you get great service! I will be back.
google avatar

Vikram R.

Yelp
It is not your average Indian restaurant! This is a feel-good, awesome food and homely restaurant in Alpharetta. The menu is limited but the dishes will not disappoint. The only restaurant I've come across that offers Masala Puri and never expected it to be so good! The chikoo milkshake was delicious and the Onion Uthappam just melts in your mouth. The crispness of the Masala Dosa and the ratio of dosa to curry ratio was just perfect! Be it Vada Pav or the Kerala Parotta nothing disappoints here. At the end cap it off with a cup of filter coffee and you'll be smiling for the rest of the day. The uncle who sits at the counter is very friendly and makes you feel welcome. A must visit place and I can't wait to return.
google avatar

Humna S.

Yelp
Yummmyyy! Definitely try the dahi puri and the masala dosa. I've tried other things too but these are the best out of all.
google avatar

Shree M.

Yelp
Authentic food, sparse ambiance. Food: on point chaat! We had the pakora chaat and it tasted just like it was made in India! Huge portion size and had a kick to it also. We had an app of pain puri as well which though not as good as the chaat, was still tasty. Lastly we ordered a masala dosa. Not the largest or crispiest I've had but still very good. The sambar has great flavor. Ambiance: typical of a place you'd find in India, not so much here in the states. The walls are pretty barren and the tables and chairs are standard, without frills. They have a separate area for water and the styrofoam cups are teeny tiny. I didn't even know they come that small. They had Malayali music on in the background which I liked. Anyway, it didn't bother me much (the ambiance in general) since I've seen similar in India but I suspect people unfamiliar will be turned off. Staff: staff was very nice and helpful in figuring out what to order. Overall good food and we will be back!

Aarthi S.

Yelp
Great spot for chaat and some Kerala style food. Idiyappam, stew, kurma, parotta, aapam, vegetables were all good. They give a large quantity of food. Will be coming back for sure to try other food. Live the vegetarian options.
google avatar

Richa S.

Yelp
Delicious food!! Small family run restaurant and they are extremely sweet.. Had the best legit Mango Milkshake! Additionally had Kerala Porota with Methi Paneer, Masala Dosa, Dabeli and amazing Kachori Chaat!! Also the Cold Coffee was perfect! Glad to find this place! Definitely a Must Visit!

Karthikeyan S.

Yelp
Easily Our New South Indian Place for all our favorite food with a such a awesome taste that makes us feel we are back in our home land. Very well deserved and hard earned 5 stars.
google avatar

Kevin Y.

Yelp
I got kerala parotta with methi paneer and a chikoo shake. Kerala parotta was very good. my first time trying it. Chikoo is called zapote in Mexico , shake was really tasty and not something you would try often around here. The owners helped me choose and even sent out a small dish free of charge for my daughter who was with me. Prices are reasonable and the restaurant is clean. I'm excited to go back.
google avatar

Venkat M.

Yelp
The best place around. not just good food but good people too. Aunty and uncle received us well and made sure we are taken care off.

Aishwarya J K.

Yelp
This place blew my mind! I went there with some friends for the first time and returned within two days. The paneer dosa is exceptional - it has a tangy/spicy curry and generous amounts of paneer cubes inside. The orange tomato chutney with it is just the right combination. If you go on a Sunday, you have to try the Appam and Stew. We were so glad we ordered it, it had four pieces of appam and was more than enough for two people. If you're missing the spicy chaat in India, try the pain puri and masala puri. I felt like I was back in India. Lastly, the parotta with egg curry and veg curry is something you cannot get enough of. The owners are wonderful and kind people and give you your money's worth. It's clean, fresh and always piping hot. I cannot wait to go back!
google avatar

Hee T.

Yelp
A great place for Indian street food. The food is super fresh and everything is so good. The family that operates the restaurant is very nice as well. We love the Bhel Puri and the pada dev. The Pav bhaji and pani puri are other favorites. We've never ordered anything that wasn't great. We always love to finish off our meal with two glasses of chai. One of our fave places to get takeout.

Anjali N.

Yelp
Awesome Aunthentic kerala food ... aunty is an amazing cook. The place is very homely so if you want to enjoy some tasty malayali food be sure to drop by. The only slightly negative point would be the wait time ... wish they could do sthg abt it. On the other hand though, definitely worth the wait !

Meenu A.

Yelp
Hi guys, Great dosas and idlis . Freshly made curries .. My favourites are specials .. Just feel to come back again .. Do check this out. !! Meenu

Yelp
We visited first the first time tonight. We didn't realize it was vegetarian, but it was SO SO good! Every dish was packed with flavor-- authentic, lovely, delicious!! The owner is very gracious and it was a delight to find this restaurant. We will go back!
