Your Apartment - Review - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Sometimes it’s just too hot to leave the house, period. When this is the case, just stay home. Crank up the air, turn off the lights, and eat a gallon of ice cream that’s been in your freezer since last summer. Or order something from our Delivery Greatest Hits. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Nothing wrong with the apartments here, this applies to the over overnight 12/21/25 Love H has the worst attitude on her phone not ensuring the tenants are safe. I delivered an order to her I was following instructions via uber and she then yells worst attitude as someone who works in Hospitality Management I would follow up on her as that is not appropriate nor appreciated

My daughter lives in this lovely apartment complex and I have visited her often over the past 18 months. This last time I had the pleasure of staying in the one bedroom rental unit for a night which was wonderful! Lauren, one of the business managers, was also so helpful in ensuring we had everything we needed in the party room to celebrate my daughter's birthday. Honestly, every staff member I have encountered (mostly at the front entrance) has been so welcoming and cheery. They also ensure that the building is secure and safe which makes feel at ease for my daughter. This is a beautiful residence with top tier amenities! Looking forward to my next visit.

I loved living here and already miss it. When I moved in my apartment was in perfect condition, and any very small issues I ever had in 2 years living there were quickly resolved (e.g. needing a new smoke detector). The front desk staff were always very helpful, and Tia in particular was so great. She got to know my family members from visiting and my parents felt very safe with me living there.

Google
This is a very popular building with a spectacular view from its pool rooftop. A new building with young renters that must be doing very well to afford it. The staff at the front desk are a bit overwhelmed but barely show it and are always courteous and helpful. I've included photos of their first floor lounge. The lounge is often frequented by young professionals willing to work from home but not in their rental unit. As you can see the lounge is a lovely place to work and these young professionals come equipped with their laptops and webcams. I've even seen one of Chicago's best known eyebrow artists, sculpting beautiful, gracefully, arched eyebrows for a client. Completed with his tiny shears and tweezers , this masterful artist, subtly enhances the character and expression of a lovely young woman with quick, gentle precision. All seem at ease working together respectfully and quietly.

Recently toured Aurelien and was thoroughly impressed with the building and all the amenities. Everyone I interreacted with was friendly and the leasing team was very knowledgeable and helped answer all my questions. Can't wait to move here!

Google
I enjoyed living here. Everything was amazing - service, style, location, amenities, stylish furniture and design.A very big thanks to Lauren for all the assistance and support. I would recommend Aurelien apartments for sure and will definitely stay here if come back to Chicago!

Google
Absolutely loved my two years living at Aurelien! Wonderful building with beautiful apartments and amenities. The building staff is also WONDERFUL. Andre and Tia deserve a very special shout out because they are truly the best. They are so both so friendly and helpful and always go out of their way for the residents. Lauren in the management office is also fantastic. She is super responsive and it's clear she wants to ensure you have a great living experience. I recently bought a place which is the only reason I moved out, but I will miss living here and it is by far the best Chicago rental building I've lived in!

Google
I recently worked with Lauren in the leasing office because I am planning on subletting at this building before moving into my new place. Lauren was incredibly patient, responsive, and helpful. Since I wasn’t able to use my own application from a different company, she offered to waive the fee for me to apply through Aurelian’s own system. She took the time to ease any concerns I had as well as answer all of my questions and went out of her way to assist me with any issues that came up during the application process. I can tell that the leasing office at Aurelian cares about their tenants. If I was not already committed to moving into my next place, I would have strongly considered being a longer-term tenant in this building based on this experience.

Yelp
The front desk personnel was extremely rude to me. I dropped a friend off and was waiting for a ride before being loudly thrown out.. I had the app up on my phone, simply waiting (while being on a guest list) and was being neither rude nor disrespectful before being treated with such hostility. If you want your guests to be treated with kindness or hospitality, I'd recommend elsewhere:

Yelp
Just a quick update since people have been messaging me asking if they should consider moving into the building. The answer remains no. The construction is still happening. The building offered a tiny concession. My personal offer was $766 off of my $3300/month rent for a one bedroom apartment. The project has spanned 5-6 months at this point during a pandemic where we're all locked inside AND if you pay for an apartment for a balcony, you can't use your balcony at all. In exchange for the concession, you have to sign a full release of liability and you have to say that you will not sue, will not encourage anyone else to sue and will not make negative comments about Aurelien on social media. I am obviously refusing to sign the concession agreement and would rather have people know that if you see the negative comments stop pouring in, it's because people are signing these NDAs. Don't live here. Even if you pay slightly more for one of the surrounding buildings, you'll be saving yourself so much sanity (not to mention the expense of hiring an attorney, having to move, etc.)

Yelp
I visited my daughter at Aurelien and stayed in the guest suite for a few days. The property is beautiful and very well kept. I used the rooftop pool which was wonderful, and I also used the quite large and well equipped gym. All the staff I met were so friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed my stay there.

Yelp
Please see attached photo to get an idea of how bad things are in this building. As other reviews have mentioned, ongoing construction for half of the 12 months (August - October 2020, March - July 2021) of our lease has absolutely ruined our experience in this building. Most tenants are working from home, and there is nonstop drilling from 8am to 5pm every single weekday making such a task impossible. It is so loud that our apartments are unusable. After the conclusion of the first bout of construction in the fall, management did not communicate to tenants that it planned on doing a far more extensive and intrusive phase two of work until the construction started back up in March. They could have given many months notice instead of a few days, but must have been too concerned that tenants would leave. To make matters worse, we found out today that management has been selectively giving rent credits for the noise to some tenants on the condition that they sign NDAs. It is unclear how it was determined which tenants got a credit for the noise. Management has utterly refused to work with tenants with respect to notifying us of where in the building construction is going on so that we can schedule our meetings in a way that allows us to participate. Whenever there is an issue they say their hands are tied because the building's owners are out of Japan. I am not exaggerating when I say that the noise is so loud that, even when wearing noise cancelling headphones, I still cannot hear people on phone calls. Nor can they hear me. Prospective tenants should note that the handling of this construction has been so egregious that even when it is complete, I would never recommend that anyone live in this building so long as it is under the current management. Our needs as tenants have been completely neglected, and the communication from management thus far is essentially "deal with it, not our problem". I am not sure why management replies to each of these reviews as though they are willing to offer a solution because that simply is not the case. This problem has gotten so bad that one tenant started a petition demanding that the building make significant changes and accommodations in light of this construction. So far, we have not heard a response from the building, but the petition garnered 15 pages of signatures from tenants (photo of letter attached) within 12 hours of its distribution.

Yelp
Despite advertising this building as luxury, the management does not understand what "luxury"is. An example of this lack of proactivity is the loud, grinding noise coming from the elevator motor all day and all night that is never fixed until after it fully breaks down and is out of order. Even if we notify the management of issues occurring in the building, such as the perpetual elevator noise, you are only given deflective excuses or snotty attitude by the staff at front desk, never even so much as an apology for the nuisance, much less information on when the issue will be resolved. Most prior reviews have canned, patronizing reply's from the management posted below them, so I unfortunately expect the same to this review, but it would be nice to be able to enjoy our apartment over the holidays without incessant elevator motor grinding louder than our tv. Update: Management's response is about what we expected - not providing any resolution nor has elevator the issue been fixed. So we've contacted the City of Chicago's Building Code Department for AIC compliance to step and resolve the issue. Also: The elevator noise is above the acceptable decibel level and is being recorded on a Ring cam. Deleting my review (as you did on Google) in order to hide the issue will only result in you accumulating more daily fines because of the noise. Why not just fix it?

Yelp
Do not live here. Construction noise inside the building is extremely loud and happens for multiple hours everyday.

Yelp
I work for cleaning company ( Sweeping Dimensions ) that many of Aurélien residents use as their cleaning service and my company also does unit turns for the building and I have to say that everybody working in this building is extremely nice and sweet, from doorman to property engineers. I love coming here and I'm sure this would be a fabulous place to live. The location is great and not too busy on the street in front of the building but it's still close to all good restaurants etc. The common areas are beautiful and the best thing about the property is that is super new! They just had first tenants move in May so if you are considering this spot as your new home, I would strongly recommend it as you are going to be the first one to live in the apartment. :-)

Yelp
Aurelien is a luxury apartment in all the superficial aspects you'd want in an apartment. The lobby, apartments, and facilities are beautiful. But in developing a luxury appearance they've neglected to maintain a luxury management. We lived here for about a year and a half and had constant issues with the corners they cut in that aspect. Every decision they made and apology they extended was reactionary and hollow. For the first several months of living here the mail situation was a disaster. There was no organization and the mail room was just a giant stack of packages that you had to weed through to find the one addressed to you. The processing of packages took several days so if you needed something quick you were out of luck. It took months of issues and complaints for the building to finally hire someone to manage the package room. Then we have the pool situation. They had trouble enforcing any sort of pool rules so it was packed and chaotic. It got so bad that they threatened to shut the pool down rather than address the root causes. They quickly backtracked on that after receiving negative feedback. Last summer we had guests visiting and our AC stopped working. It would turn off then after a few minutes would malfunction. We put in an emergency request and were told that in order for them to replace it they needed to witness it malfunctioning, even though the thermostat clearly said "malfunction". This led us to having a hot apartment in the dead of summer, for the weekend and our guests sweating It out. In October 2018 the building was made aware that we would be without hot water for several days because something needed to be replaced. So for nearly a week we had no hot water while the building waited for parts to fix it. During our time at Aurelien hot water went out three times for over a day. We've also experienced rude and unhelpful door people throughout our time. When we moved in there was a wonderful worker named Dustin. He was friendly and helpful. He disappeared after a while and we were left with the current staff. We've had several bad experiences with them a couple where they were obviously not informed of building protocol that was sent out to all residents days before. It's really unclear who manages the staff at this point. Avoid Lola at all costs. Now we have the rent situation. This is the one that most exemplifies their attitude towards their renters. When we signed our lease we were told by leasing agent that if rent were to rise it would be a small amount. $25-50 at most. When the rent increase came it was a non-negotiable $110 a month. We were also told that our rent would likely rise by 3-5% the following year because demand for their apartments is so high. We've both lived in several apartments throughout Chicago over the last 7 years, including high rises much like this. Never have we dealt with such poor building management. So don't be blinded by the glitz and glamor of the building itself. They've certainly not cut corners there. But behind the scenes you get a much better idea of the concessions they've made.

Yelp
The Aurelien is a high-end high-value very friendly building. We've lived here since it recently opened, and the staff is always available and responsive. In addition to the incredible amenities, the building has great package handling, advanced technology and beautiful decor. One of the best parts of living here is the great energy and community. Not an elevator ride goes by without a smile and a "have a great day." Make sure you put the Aurelien on your list.

Yelp
I moved in to Aurélien 1.5 months ago and have had an amazing experience so far. Our corner apartment is beautiful with floor to ceiling windows and top notch furnishings. The size is perfect for needs. Our Black Russian Terrier loves hanging out in our balcony observing the sights (we rented the apartment just for her!). The staff is very attentive and welcoming. Becky was very patient with all my inquiries. Dustin, Pam, and Dave in the front desk always welcomes us with a smile. Maintenance requests have been right on time. Couldn't ask for better service! Amenities are quite amazing with a rooftop pool, big gym, separate women's and men's meditation rooms, in house dry cleaning, huge bike storage, and many party rooms. We're also a block away from Washington Square Park, which is practically a dog park and awesome for socializing our big Black Russian Terrier baby girl. Nothing to complain and very happy with our life here so far. Please keep up the great work!

Yelp
I just moved into the Aurelien and so far it has been a decent experience. The building and amenities (pool, common area) are very nice and it is in a good location (more quiet but close to many restaurants and bars). However, there are a few important things to note for improvement. The dog run is small and smells like pee and chemicals and it does not feel like it's cleaned often. It would be very helpful if there was a place for people to walk around the dog run so that they would not be stepping on the same grass that the dogs are going on. The situation is not great considering the incredibly expensive rent. Also, the doorman is polite but often there is no one at the door. This causes a lot of traffic with waiting guests and also raises a question of security. These are two of the biggest issues in the building and if they were to fix this, then it would significantly improve the experience.

Yelp
Lived here for 2 months and LOVE it! The property is managed very well. If you have any issue they address it and actually follow up with you. The doors are solid and that makes it quiet for residents. The amenities are wonderful and everyone we have met is nice. Dog friendly and they clean up "accidents " quickly. Will update review if needed in the coming months.

Yelp
I have lived at the Aurelien for almost 2 years now and have absolutely loved my experience. I recently toured a few other luxury apartment complexs in Chicago out of sheer curiosity & quickly realized there is no where that compares to the Aurelien when it comes to staff, amenities, size/price of unit & overall experience.

Michael N.

Yelp
The Aurelien is a great building. It has fantastic amenities and by far the best, most responsive management and staff I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I have lived at several condo buildings in the city including the Waldorf, 2 W Delaware, 500 W Superior and 4 E Elm; none of which had as responsive, kind, or accommodating management - and the amenities in those buildings are almost non existent compared to the Aurélien. And given those were condo buildings as opposed to rental buildings (we are currently leasing while we build a home), we would have expected the service to be better at the condo buildings, as opposed to the other way around. And it's important to point out the kindness and level of service we've experienced the past 7 months is despite a current unfortunate construction renovation on the balconies and Covid, which every resident has their own take on what should be done. It is sad and unfortunate to see all the negative reviews on this building. I completely understand that government / other restrictions with Covid have had a significant impact on our lives, and that the repair of the balconies is not something any of us want to experience, but management was not responsible for the virus, or for building the balconies and the errors that were made in construction, but they are responsible to get them fixed as quickly as possible to keep residents safe. And they are doing just that. The alternative would be to not fix them, and possibly have someone severely injured or worse. I understand conference calls are important; we all have them, but I will bet you'd feel better about thanking management for keeping people safe than you would about venting on Yelp because there is unavoidable noise from construction, which will be over in the next few months. So in short, my wife and I would recommend the building to anyone looking for a great building, location and best in class amenities and management team. And happy to talk with any fellow residents about the construction situation, as we renovate houses and have experience in the underlying issue. Mike #3002

Yelp
I recently moved out of Aurelien, lived there since the building opened in 2017 and I really did enjoy my few years living there. The building is beautiful, the amenities are top notch, the actual apartment units are very nice, it's truly the meaning of luxury - all aspects, especially the staff (management included) who are so on point with everything that they do! I honestly think that the person(s) who created and joined/signed the petition against the balcony project and team are absurd. The poor reviews on this building are ridiculous, the construction noise has been loud for the past few months no doubt BUT, I personally feel it's better to have a landlord/management company who fixes issues as soon as they present themselves rather than wait it out and risk an even bigger issue later down the line. To my understanding, a couple of balconies were deemed unsafe therefore Aurelien decided to replace every balcony in the building for safety measures, which I appreciate, AS EVERYONE SHOULD. It's a situation where you're darned if you do and darned if you don't. If Aurelien chose not to replace everyone's balcony and an accident happened I'm sure someone would say "if there was an issue with a few of the balconies they should've replaced all of the balconies to avoid accidents" which is what they're doing yet it's still an issue. I was given (along with other residents - I'm friends with other tenants in the building and we've all received the same offer) the option to get a discount on rent and sign an NDA or be let out of lease (no penalties) with 30 days notice. I decided to give notice and move elsewhere because the noise levels didn't work for me as I need a quiet space since I work from home and I have several conference calls a day but, if I didn't work from home I definitely would have stayed. The hours of construction are normal business hours, no earlier or later so if you leave for work you wouldn't be effected much. The issue isn't Aurelien's fault nor the team members, they didn't build the building themselves. Aside from the noise caused by the balcony construction, this is a great place to live. As you can see, management is really on top of fixing any/every issue, that's truly the luxury - amazing service, that on top of the buildings beauty and amazing amenities, choosing to live here is a no brainer. There's a big chance that I may be back once the construction is finished, If I don't move out of state for work. Thank you for the past few years, Aurelien, and most importantly thank you for always making the safety of your residents a priority!

Yelp
I have been living here for two months and thus far really love it! Lauren was such a wonderful guide through the pre-move and post-move process! Thanks for making my move super seamless. Also, Andre always has a smile on his face and exemplifies five-star service each and every day. Moving from New York City, the value for this place with size, staff, and amenities can't be beat for the area! Looking forward to enjoying more of the outdoor amenities in spring ;-)

Yelp
The Aurelien is a beautiful property with best-in-class amenities and a location that you can't beat. The door staff & management team are awesome and always happy to help out. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Great location, everything is under 20 minutes away. Residents are friendly. Gym can be packed if you're doing weight training, but plenty of cardio options. Walls are rather sound-proof. Appliances and amenities are top notch.

Yelp
I just wanted to write about Pamela who works at the front desk! I'm not a resident, but we had a couple of questions about where to find the nearest bank and she was more than happy to help. She showed us directions, she called the branch for us, she made sure we were looked after, etc. She is a very very kind lady!!

Lauren H.

Yelp
This is a dream building. The Aurelien and its staff make you feel like you are at home. I could not recommend this place any more than I already have. I absolutely love it and wish we could purchase our apartment. I had a minor issue with the water in my master bath not heating above 104 degrees Fahrenheit. William, the assistant manager, took care of this first hand until it was solved. He had multiple different maintenance men working on it and when it was decided they couldn't do anymore, he brought in a professional plumber to fix the issue. William and his team at the Aurelien are world class. Big thanks to them. As stated before, I would highly recommend anyone to move here. Our bills were set and have not varied since day one and the Aurelien team has gone above and beyond to make this place spectacular.

Yelp
Love my new home! I moved in a week ago. The staff is amazing... William (leasing office), David & Marquita (front desk) have been so accommodating and helpful! The amenities are superior to anywhere else I looked at in the Gold Coast. My 1BR has gorgeous finishes, huge bathroom, and tons of storage/closet space. The pool has beautiful finishes, cabanas with televisions inside, spacious daybeds, and the views are veeeery instagrammable! The only downside...the gym hasn't opened yet and for someone who works out daily, it's a little bit of an bummer! I hear it should open soon though!

Yelp
I recently went for a tour of the Aurelien and was pleasantly surprised with how friendly and engaging the staff and management company were. I've looked at several buildings in and near downtown and Aurelien seems to be a bit more sophisticated than others I have seen. I especially enjoyed meeting the leasing manager, Lola. She was incredibly helpful and responsive leading up to and during the tour.

Maggie F.

Yelp
Having moved in to the Aurelien a month ago, I just sent in my feedback to their management team as it warrants recognition! The property is lovely, offers much in the way of amenities, is well maintained and very well managed overall! The management, staff and team have been responsive, professional and genuinely care about the resident's comfort! Keep up the great work Team Aurelien, this is a terrific place to live!

Yelp
I toured Aurelien last week and I was very impressed. It is absolute luxury. From the moment you walk in the door you can tell that the company thought out every aspect of the building. I toured with Becky, who was absolutely fabulous and kept me laughing and comfortable the entire tour. She showed me the one bedroom apartment of my choice since the building is brand new (a plus)! She kept everything seamless and did not have the annoying car sales pitch to throw at me. She made me excited about living here! The apartment interiors blew my mind and were like no other community I've seen in River North. You can tell that they this apartment building is NOT your typical cookie cutter build. The amenities were gorgeous and the best seller for me. Personally, I am obsessed with the meditation room as meditation, finding a time to quiet down, is a big part of my life. There are plenty of spaces throughout all of the amenities where you can connect and work from home. I also love the idea of not having to leave the building to entertain friends when they come over to visit. The apartments are obviously not far from public transit and you can walk to many restaurants, bars, and lounges. It was also a pleasure to meet the entire team, Ivy, Lola, Steve, Bill (or Will I honestly forgot which name he goes by), which I find to be an uncommon thing in most apartments I have looked at in Chicago. They were incredibly enthusiastic which made me excited about living here.

Anonymous N.

Yelp
The building is very nice, but has the vibe of living in a dorm much more so than a luxury apartment building. I was really excited to move here and expected to be surrounded by mostly professionals who behave like adults, and that has not been my experience. My neighbors are excessively loud well into the night, even in the middle of the week, and it's not just a case of bad luck with one set of neighbors. It's unfortunate because the building is beautiful and the door staff are really great, but I pay way too much money to feel like I live in a college dorm. I have also met some really nice neighbors in the building who have become friends, and they share the same sentiment. The office has been responsive to a friend in the building who has had to complain about the noise on her floor on multiple occasions, but from what I am told it hasn't really deterred the behavior and she has given up on it. I honestly can't wait to get out of here and will not be renewing my lease. If you want to live in a gorgeous building with great amenities and don't mind a party vibe, you would probably enjoy living here.

Kirsten M.

Yelp
Aurelien's management is top notch. A couple weeks ago, our in-unit washer became unhooked from the water line and flooded our front hallway. Maintenance was there within minutes, and William and the rest of management took care of everything - from replacing the floorboards to removing the moisture from the walls and floor. William was available to answer any of our questions, and the entire process took a painless two days. This is the kind of management you want in a building - five stars.

Tom Z.

Yelp
Nothing but good things to say about my current place. The definition of Luxury. Not to mention this is probably the best management property I have been with in the last say 10-15 years, which goes along way when any issues arise.

Sydney J.

Yelp
The property while still under development looks amazing from what I've seen. The apartment units offer the highest level of finishings. Awesome sales team they are really interested in making sure you find the right unit and fit.

Yelp
On April 10th, I stopped by and toured the Aurelien apartments. I must say that the property is beautiful, the management is professional and the staff is friendly. One of the reasons I am updated my original review is because, at the Aurelien, they truly care and value people - even the ones who haven't moved in yet! I had a great conversation with the GM Steve B. and he was kind, professional and listened while I talked. I can see why he is the GM of this new community residential apartment. He went above and beyond to take care of an unpleasant encounter I had with one of the leasing agents. It takes integrity to admit and change a situation from a negative to a positive. Although I will not have the privilege of living at Aurelien I have no doubt that the rest of the management team and the Lincoln Properties will take good care of their residents. At the Aurelien, you are not just a resident but a human being that is worthy of respect.
