Where to Eat at the Austin Airport at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas ABIA | Eater Austin

"An alfresco food-truck area in the completely separate South Terminal (accessible through a different entrance) featuring an on-site food truck, De Nada Tacos, plus concession grab-and-go snacks and drinks; note that getting to the South Terminal and back requires significant extra time (you’ll need at least four hours to get there, eat, and return)." - Nadia Chaudhury

Yelp
If you're flying on Frontier or Allegiant airlines, pleases park at the South Terminal. You will be frustrated and mad at the world if you park at the North Terminal. The South Terminal is small and peaceful. There's one little store to buy snacks and a taco stand outside. The taco stand is gated in so you don't have to go through security again. Parking was easy and $12 per day.

Yelp
I wasn't aware this existed until I told a colleague I was flying Frontier and she told me it's not in the main airport. TSA was rude as always, but the terminal was extremely small and cramped for the slew of people flying out. Two flights were departing at essentially the same time and the staff kept *literally* yelling at people to sit down as they were only calling one flight to board at a time. Makes sense, except there wasn't really anywhere to sit, all seats were taken. People had no choice but to stand around. I hate the feeling of being herded like cattle, as a paying customer The only bright spot was there was a small store that sold drinks, snacks, hot food and books. The margarita helped, and I purchased a book I couldn't put down Arriving back here was a simple experience, departing was a huge headache

Yelp
I like this airport because if your flight is frontier then you can directly access to the gate! Pretty simple! Definitely utilize the daily $12 eco parking which is a walkable distance if you wanna closer then you can utilize $20 daily and you can park right in front of the terminal!

Yelp
I flew into Austin from Atlanta for my connection flight back home to Indy for the Memorial Day weekend, and the terminal was ok. The selection of restaurants and shops was decent, but not that impressive. I was on a tight timeline to get to the next flight, so I did not spend a lot of time at the terminal. From what I had seen, the Austin terminal was Ok, but I have seen better terminals. I really do not have anything else to say about the terminal.

Yelp
This tiny terminal is just... alright. It's quite dark on the road to get to it but if you type it into the GPS it'll send you straight there. There are only 2 gates, and you board your plane directly from the tarmac. They have a very small cafe, I've never bought anything but it's there. They have a pretty decent amount of seating, sometimes it gets pretty full but I've always been able to find a seat. The security line has never been very long for me; they do have a TSA line although if anything, I had to wait longer last time in the TSA line than in the regular line. Overall -- this little terminal is just fine, hence a cool 3/5 stars. I've heard the airport is expanding, hopefully there'll be a larger terminal with more resources/food options after?

Yelp
there were no signs that directed us to this terminal and of course we had to deal with TSA agents who hate their jobs. after what felt like an hour running around the main airport, someone finally directed us to the shuttles. probably the worst terminal ive ever been in. the only vending machine was broken. not enough seats for the amount of people coming in and out of the terminal.

Yelp
Heading out to California for a graduation. South Termjnal is a small airport only for Frontier and Allegiant airlines. The lines for security is never a long line but still get here 2 hrs prior to boarding to prevent any delays. The waiting area is normally pretty packed. They have a small convenient store for cold items. Restrooms inside and outside of the security are available. Some seating area have charging stations but good luck in getting a seat. Bring your portable charger for a piece of mind.

Yelp
Staff is incredibly friendly, we did end up getting a delay which was unfortunate but I believe the margarita and pizza helped. There is no covered parking here but you do have the option to park in a fenced area. If you do choose to park at the main terminal please understand you have to take a shuttle bus, and be sure to be kind to the staff. They try and be fair for all passengers.

Yelp
Tiny terminal, TSA takes forever because there's only one person for Pre Check and one for regular. Poor ventilation so the room (the terminal is literally a room) was like a swamp. There were no empty seats, inside or out, so I had to stand around and at 7 months pregnant it sucked. The shuttle to get to the actual airport is always full and hard to catch. I'll spend the extra money to fly into the real Austin Airport.

Yelp
The South Terminal is by far this airport's best kept secret. I'm shocked it has such low reviews, and honestly I think it's because people are trying to gatekeep it! Security took seconds to get through, friendly workers, and parking is so easy! That alone is enough to make it a good experience, but there's more. They have a nice area outside to wait in and a taco truck! Tacos were delicious! Flights out of this terminal are cheap since it's Allegiant and Frontier. Affordable, comfortable, easy, and fast. (Only thing to be weary of is if you're traveling with a stroller & don't expect WiFi on your flight! I've heard several people have experienced frequent flight delays, but haven't experienced it myself yet. I'll come back to update the review if so!)

Yelp
Very few flights in and out so services are not good. Shuttles only run from rental car drop off at main terminal 2 hours before a flight leaves, and security also does not open until 2 hours before a flight. No point in being early. None of this is mentioned on the website.

Yelp
The South terminal is a small terminal about 5 miles from the large AUS airport. Frontier and Allegiant are the only airlines that regularly fly out of here. On-site park is a breeze and it feels like the days of yesteryear when folks would just show up to the terminal and walk up the ramp to their plane. It can get a little congested since there is only two gates but there is enough seating that I've never had to stand. They have both USB and regular outlets at most seats which is always a plus. There is a small concession area selling snacks, sodas, and basic alcoholic drinks. They also have a taco truck outside in the courtyard so you can get some hot food. The Barbacoa and egg breakfast taco was very tasty and just what I needed before my morning flight to Vegas. I like the ease and convenience of the South terminal and with the cheap fares to Las Vegas on Allegiant and Frontier it's becoming an old familiar friend.

Yelp
This is essentially the punishment terminal. If you have to fly out of this terminal I am sorry. It's nice whenever something is open but if you're the only flight of the day and get there earlier... Prepare to sit in a warm empty pre-security area with a bunch of other irritated people.

Torie D.

Yelp
genuinely the worst most portly designed terminal in america. you will wait 2 hours to get through tsa, miss your flight, and they won't apologize or take any accountability. whoever designed this....runs this.....do better bc you suck.

Yelp
I've never encountered something as stupid as South Terminal and its shuttle in my years of traveling. My family and I got into Austin yesterday after a 3 hour flight only to discover that we would need to take a shuttle to the actual airport where the car rentals are. Except there were about a hundred other passengers who also needed to take the shuttle to the main airport. It takes 10+ plus minutes to get from the South Terminal to the actual airport and it appears there is only 1 shuttle which brings passengers at the South Terminal to the actual airport. When you have a hundred people waiting in line for a shuttle that can only carry like 15 people and is 20 minute round trip - you wait more than an hour to get to the actual airport. Why is there only one shuttle? Any airport that cared about its passengers would have a line of shuttles waiting at the South Terminal. Then when you finally arrive to the actual airport you see a line of 7-8 shuttles sitting and just waiting for 1 person to take to a parking lot while hundreds of people are stranded at the South Terminal. Just embarrassing incompetence.

Yelp
It's gotten Better!! Actually lookin like a real airport terminal. Lots of seating and taco food truck outside with decent prices! Getting thru Checked Bags & Security went fairly Quick!! A lot quicker than the bigger main terminal. Thumbs up.

Yelp
If flying in or out of ABIA via Frontier or Allegiant airlines, you are going to do so through the South Terminal. You would assume it is right next door to the main terminals, so no big deal. And then you'll find out that, with no traffic, it is about a 20 minute shuttle between ABIA and the South terminal. Eek! This is tough if you are anxious to start your vacation, but have to get to the main airport to, say, pick up a rental car. On the other hand, if someone is just picking you up, or dropping you off, this is super convenient, and allows the avoidance of a busy airport. My experience was the former, so it was a bit of a bummer upon arrival to learn our adventure would be a bit delayed. On the other hand, I loved flying out of the South Terminal. We still had to go to ABIA first and take a shuttle, and while I can see this causing possible disaster at busy travel times, or if they are running behind, on this trip, everything worked seamlessly. Security was quick, and the airport is so small, that, when people leave items, even a pack of crackers, they will go over the intercom and announce it so patrons can return and retrieve their forgotten goods. There is a small shop with all the airport basics, along with some made in Texas specialties, like Lammes chocolates, local candles, and goodies from a nearby bakery. Your only restaurant option is a taco truck (there's a cute lil' bar, too!) located on their gorgeous outdoor patio. Again, I can understand why this might not always be great (hello 100+ degree days), but on my visit, it was sunny and 60-something outdoors. We all lounged on a large picnic table and reveled in the fresh air and rays of sunshine warming our faces. The courtyard is small, but I still circled it a few times for exercise, and what a vast improvement over wandering a standard drab terminal! Back to the taco truck, De Nada: We just shared chips and queso + two salsas, but it was fab! They prepared our order in like thirty seconds, the queso was warm, and the salsa verde was MAGIC. What a perfect, generously portioned pre-flight snack! Inside, they have 24 charging stations, standard airport seating, plus some super fun retro chairs and tables. It is a small space, and I can see the possibility for it filling up, but then again, there are only two gates, so I do not know how many flights could really be pending at the same time. If I returned to Austin and did not require a rental car, flying out of the south terminal is a no brainer. That lovely courtyard stole my heart, and was a great improvement over the standard airport experience. If I needed to get to ABIA for a rental car or connecting flight, it would give me pause, but I might still end up choosing a flight that utilizes this terminal.

Yelp
Pros: Car traffic access, no congestion from drivers drop off or pick up. Small terminal with quick food, snack & beverage options. Sit outside and enjoy nice atmosphere and a beer. Loads of phone chargers and seating. Cons: Shuttle from & to main terminal is a time killer. Park or drop off to avoid shuttle. TSA less efficient, inconsistent & One Pass not available. Luggage claim hit or miss. No airline clubs/lounges. After flying through here a couple of times you'll learn the ropes and adjust accordingly, but initial experience can be a nightmare. Overall, I prefer it to the main terminal vibe, but the key to both is experience and figuring out the program. South is more casual & less chaotic once you get the routine down.

Courtney T.

Yelp
It's my first time flying out of the South Terminal, and initially I didn't realize that it was separate from the main airport. Give yourself plenty of time to get to it. I ended up taking the shuttle from the main terminal to it, and I was surprised by how far away the two were. But once I got here, for a mid- morning weekday flight there was no line at TSA and it was easy. The lounge / waiting area has a comfortable and bright set up, with lots of outlets and a small shop. The surprising gem is the outdoor patio, with cold drinks and a taco truck.

Yelp
My experience at South Terminal yesterday was by far the worst thing I have ever experienced while traveling. I have been flying for over 20 years, I am well aware of how things operate in many airports. However, this South Terminal in Austin is awful. We had to wait 40 minutes for a shuttle. Then to finally get to the Terminal, no one was at the desk to check bags. After waiting for 15 minutes, while the Frontier worker literally looked at me multiple times, my plane began to board. Thankfully, another worker from Allegiant informed me that once the plane started boarding, I had to take my bag through TSA to check it at the gate. Being a Clear (TSA Pre Check) member, I jumped into the pre check line. I was called up to scan my ID. The TSA guy was very rude telling me "he should make me go to the back of the line because I am not pre check and was trying to pull something funny." I said no sir, I pay for it every year I literally just used it on Friday. He said "you're not, my system is telling me your not in it." I said we'll I'm sorry but I know for a fact that I pay for it every year. He waved his hand and said "you've got what you wanted just go." Then to get to TSA, the made me empty my bag, and literally scanned it 4 times. I asked the TSA agent if I was going to miss my flight her response was rudely "how am I supposed to know that". I said we'll if this takes longer than 20 minutes I'm going to miss it. She said go back out front with me and empty your bag. So we do it again, and again and again. I asked to go tell the hate (that was maybe 100 feet away) that I was here and not to close the doors but she refused to let me do so even though she could see me go there if needed. 30 minutes later she found a bottle of hand sanitizer and lotion. I had forgot about those because this was supposed to be a "checked bag". At this point, I didn't care, I said just throw it away, I could careless about it. I just needed to get to my flight. Of course, when all was done she slammed the baggage pan down and said you're fine and walked away. So I finally get over to my gate and couldn't get on because of this whole mess. At this point, I am crying out of frustration. I have to get home to get my child, now I have to pay for another flight and I just said goodbye to my husband who is deploying for 10 months. 2 women who work for Allegiant were literally my only saving grace here. The frontier guy was very dismissive until one of them stated "she is a paying customer for Frontier you need to speak with her and try to help her." So he said can I help you, so I explained everything. When it was all said and done he was nice at the end. He helped me find a new flight so I could get home to my children. I had to pay another $400+ for a flight with a possibility of being refunded for that flight. This was hands down the WORST experience I have ever had. I will never fly through South Terminal again. TSA is a nightmare here. There was a guy in front of me having another issue with his bag. It's like they put the TSA employees they don't like down there. Whixh i can understand why after my dealing with them. Main Terminal was a completely different story, they were wonderful.

Seth G.

Yelp
Extremely slow TSA line. Sloppy service. One of the baggage trays was wet and got my brother's suitcase wet. The shuttles can be very slow. One time it took 20 minutes or so to let everyone board the shuttle and fill it up with gas. That took longer than the ride itself.

Kathy B.

Yelp
Small terminal just serving Allegiant and frontier airlines , I believe. Usually shorter lines for TSA. Only drawback is lack of jetways for boarding so passengers are exposed to the weather when walking the ramps for boarding and de-boarding.

Yelp
This was the best terminal I've ever been in and I've flown a lot. When we first arrived we got dropped off in the middle of the parking lot so we had the wrong impression thought it was podunk. Well mostly my friend did I've had this experience before of being dropped off of the airline in the parking lot. But when we left it was the easiest check in through security I have ever had. They were quick and efficient and super friendly, which probably matters the most. Then yes it was small but they had beer and very comfortable seats to sit in the inside. While we thought about where we were going to sit and looking around we realized that they had an outdoor patio with music, a taco truck, and comfortable patio furniture. Honestly, could life get any better? Oh wait it dud there was a gentleman who is walking around with a bar cart that you could order your alcoholic beverage right there on the spot. How can you go wrong? And those tacos were delicious. I got just the carnita tacos because I didn't want the breakfast ones and I just ask for it without the eggs. Those tacos were so juicy and full of flavor man I could go back now. So the south terminal is not really part of the main terminal. You have to make sure that you tell your Uber driver that you're not just going to the airport but the south terminal. other than that this was the best experience flying I've had. I will come back to Austin just because their airport was so easy to get through and then comfortable for the hour wait.

Jamey S.

Yelp
I have never had such a horrible experience traveling! We waited for the shuttle to pick us up for 45 minutes. They had terrible customer service, they were unorganized and it was so crowded!
google avatar

Douglas S.

Yelp
This is an embossment for tech forward thinking city like Austin. The shuttle between South and main is slooooowww. I've waited an hour at the main terminal to transfer. Uber is horrible. I landed today and 3 Uber drivers dropped the request for a ride to Lakeway. Tried Lyft and poof, done no problems. The crossing guard said Uber is a problem at this terminal. When is Austin going to get with it. the main terminal is busting at the seams. Came from New Orleans where I thought things were backward but NO bests this airport hands down. No Uber or shuttle issued there.
google avatar

Josh H.

Yelp
Flying out of the Austin South Terminal is like experiencing a third world country. Getting to it requires driving through what looks like a Soviet era air force base. Inside the terminal itself, people are sitting on top of each other like the train scene from the movie Gandhi. And yet, the terminal is covered with colorful propaganda devoid of any self reflection about whether the city is competent enough to keep the lights on in the winter, provide the basic city services like water or 911, or pull off without incident an event like a marathon. One star. Do not recommend.
google avatar

Joe P.

Yelp
Gate 9 is my Salt Lake City to Seattle area for my am flight. You have a bathroom nearby... fancy handlebar type hand wash station and dryer courtesy of Dyson... pretty cool stuff. You have breakfast pizza...believe it or not. ...a Coffee Nespresso store and a marketplace mall at your finger tips.
google avatar

Al S.

Yelp
OMG, what a terrible Terminal. I'm very surprised that a up and coming city like Austin would have an airport Terminal like this. I mean it kind of reminds me of third world countries airports. Nothing against the staff they are great but the terminal is isolated from the rest of the airport. 30 minutes away with airport shuttle from the main airport.

Yelp
There seem to be a lot of extremely pampered folks losing it over the fact that they have to wait in the same TSA line as peasants, eat alien moon man food at a TACO!!! truck ohmigod!!! and (gasp!) walk *outside* to board the plane? Clutch my pearls, Jeeves, you can't be serious!!! Yet the same folks, I strongly trow, weren't complaining at the roughly $0.39 they spent on tickets to fly twenty-ninth class on Cheapskateola™ Airlines, where you can choose your seat for an extra twenty bucks, for fifty you get to sit on the captain's lap, for $75 the flight attendant sits on your lap, and $500 extra buys you the plane. I have flown extensively all over the world, and this terminal is fine. It's not a nightmare, it's not so crowded that there is nowhere to sit, TSA aren't stormtroopers, it isn't chaos, there's no disorganization, it's just a no-frills airport terminal where Economy airlines pay less for airport space and pass the savings along to us. If the negative reviews are making you anxious about your purchase of a fifteen-cent plane ticket to Atlanta taped to the wing of an origami glider, you can relax. This a perfectly decent terminal. TSA was a breeze, all the staff is friendly and relaxed, the snack bar has plenty of drinks and food, and the outdoor patio and boarding area lends the terminal a nice, breezy openness which will be a welcome change for the claustrophobic or outdoorsman set. While I wouldn't classify any public airport experience as five-star, this wasn't really any worse than bigger terminals, making adjustments of course for the fact that this one caters to cheaper airlines. I've attached numerous photos of the terminal, from the parking lot to the patio, to show that there is nothing to dread.

Yelp
Part of this is my fault: my Lyft dropped me off early. But, as I stood in the line in front of the Frontier counter, waiting for someone to come staff the desk, I realized...someone should at least be able to answer my questions. One airport employee finally told me that the desk would open at 7:00 am (I'd gotten in line at around 6:50 am). As I stood there, willing the hands on my watch to move faster, the line started to grow. And grow. And grow. 7:00 am came. 7:00 am went. 7:10 came. 7:10 went. 7:15 came, and then it, too, went. 7:20 came and...guess what? It went, too! It was after 7:30 am by the time the door to the back opened and desk agents started to filter in. I could hear the people behind me loudly muttering about them taking their sweet time, but my flight wasn't set to leave for another 90 minutes, so I wasn't as angry. Just mildly annoyed. The gate agent that finally waved me over was flat-out rude. Like I'd somehow inconvenienced her by flying out of that terminal, and needing her assistance to get my bag checked. Best I can say is that it was a brief encounter, and I was making my way to security in no time. Security here, after all that, was incredibly easy. I've only ever experienced those kinds of processing times in other countries, so I'd give them 5 stars for that part alone. Unfortunately, once through security, it was more of the same. The lounge was sad and uncomfortable, the one store I saw was barely limping along on the merchandise they had stocked, and the agents working that part of the airport were just as rude and unhelpful.

Yelp
This is best little airport in Texas! (and anywhere!) Loved flying out of and back in this terminal! With 3 gates, it's undoubtedly the most ease-filled airport experience I've ever experienced (in 4 decades of traveling worldwide). Add to that a very cool inside lounge... and the most astounding OUTDOOR patio with a cool food truck(!!!) and this is really just too good to be true... but it is true! Including fair prices on the food truck, and the indoor store. If that wasn't enough... it all feels very old school! You can view the airplanes on the tarmac from the outdoor patio (some very up close and personal like the BA 747 I saw land and taxi while I was there) AND you walk to and from the plane... on the tarmac...! Again, very old school! All this in such a compact foot print and can walk anywhere (including to the parking lot within a minute(!) or so! Fantastic job South Terminal! Thanks for the wonderful flying experience.

K G.

Yelp
Was looking forward to tacos for dinner however the De Nada taco truck was CLOSED on a Monday at 730pm when it says they are open everywhere. There's literally a little overpriced snack shop here and that's it. Other than that there's no food in this South Terminal. Security was literally a breeze and got thru in literally less than 2 mins which is absolutely unheard of.

Yelp
I've never reviewed an airport bar before but this place is AMAZING! I will suffer flying Frontier just to come back to this terminal. The South terminal only feeds Frontier and another airline and is completely separate from the main airport, which is great because it limits the line for TSA and the dopest airport patio bar I've encountered in the lower 48. Full bar inside and beer bar outside---we ordered margaritas outside with the option to have your drink delivered to your table. Reasonably priced huge drinks with the taco truck next door. I have serious airport anxiety because of the crowds, lines, and lack of fresh air and this made my trip not only more enjoyable, but significantly less stressful. Austin, you're doing it right!
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
How is this a new terminal? No actual TSA Precheck. Checking in at a computer just dumps you into the same manual check in as everyone else. The only coffee they sell is that sad stuff you get out of a pump. No place to fill a water bottle after TSA. It feels like they're a little terminal in some old town that never made it out of the 90s. This is brand new? Pave it and start over. This is apparently built and run by a separate company so it has nothing to do with the main terminal. You can only avoid this Terminal by avoiding Frontier and Allegiant departures out of Austin, so it's pretty tricky to avoid. Most customers are gonna be dumped here and unpleasantly surprised. So if you're departing out of Austin, just avoid Frontier and Allegiant. There's probably a website to check on latest airlines in case it changes. I'm definitely never using this terminal again.
google avatar

Hemesh P.

Yelp
If you fly frontier make sure you know ahead of time you're landing at the south terminal If you rented a car you'll need to go to the main terminal to pick it up and take a shuttle The shuttle goes around this long route (even though it looks like the south terminal is right below the main terminal in a map) It takes about 30 minutes!! Getting to the south terminal is a breeze and there's plenty of parking

Yelp
What an odd place. We deplaned ourAirbus A319 with an open ramp wheeled up to the jet. I donno what they do when it's raining. There's nothing to eat other than to devour some vending machines. I don't know about the women's restroom but the men's had an odd odor to it. The restroom was quite cramped and only had 2 hand wash basins for 8 toilets. No advanced technology in this restroom. Tank toilets, no IR faucets, no air hand driers, and manual towel dispensers. Got outside and...hummm...they have 3 metal benches and some canopies. However, the two items don't coincide as the benches aren't under the canopies. I had to pick between standing under the protection of the canopy or sitting on the bench in the drizzle. Not much fun here.

Yelp
I've lived at Austin for two decades, but I never knew that we had a South Terminal. The South Terminal is a new terminal that is located about 20 minutes from the usual terminal that most people fly from. You can get to the South Terminal by taking a shuttle that is located next to the drop-off area outside of the check-in counter. The first thing that went wrong with my experience was that I waited for the shuttle for thirty minutes to take me to the southern terminal since I was flying Allegiant. The shuttle only came when the elderly ladies who have been waiting even longer then me called and asked where the shuttle was. Once we got into the shuttle, we realized that the shuttle didn't have AC. You know, the vital piece of equipment that's a necessity for a Texas summer. The South Terminal is nothing impressive. The exterior looked like a repurposed garage while the interior looked older than the interior of the Northern Terminal. The TSA did not look for trouble, but they were definitely not as friendly as the TSA agents at the Northern Terminal. The food options offered are practically non-existent because the only store indoors just sells elementary schooler snacks like apples and Cheetos. There is a food truck if you want some booze to brace yourself for a flight. I'm disappointed to see that only the low Costa airlines such as Allegiant Air and Frontier Airlines are at the Southern Terminal. I guess people with less disposable income can't ruin the atomosphere of the Northern Terminal, so said people should have to drive further and be packed like sardines inside the small Southern Terminal.

Yelp
Cool spot w craft beer and food truck ! It takes 15 minutes from main terminal. Nice and small place I would like to see big bottles of Austin 'a finest to go only to earn 5 stars and better prices on draft beer 8.00 is pushing it your not at a baseball game. Also throw on a Star Wars movie 24/7 to keep passengers happy

Yelp
This is the best cozy terminal in all of Texas. It has an outdoor space as well as inside. Tasty food truck tacos. I love the interior seating area

Yelp
What the eff. How have I lived here for years and have never heard of a South Terminal. It's probably new, but that doesn't make it less surprising to arrive at the normal airport and have to be shuttled to your gate. We arrived 1.5 hrs before our Allegiant flight and we cut it close. For sure, get there 1.5hrs before and 2hrs before if you're getting dropped off at the regular airport. You need to catch the bus next to the passenger drop off lane to be shuttled 15 minutes away to the "south" terminal. They desperately need a monorail or train to eliminate the bus thing. Allegiant itself had issues, which added stress during checkin. The security here is a lot more strict, too, maybe they have something to prove. Once we were inside though, I fell in love. They have an outdoor area with a food truck, cornhole, and tables for chilling in the sun. The decor is so cool. Retro, but modern. Overall amazing. Come early to enjoy the terminal and you'll be fine. Don't show up even slightly on time, because then you'll be late.

WTF...45 minutes to get the baggage claim started. 30 minutes to "park". It's a great idea but it's horribly mis-managed.

Yelp
Privately own airport terminal that recently opened in April 2017. This place use to be an old military warehouse but was remodeled to become a hip, modern, and cozy airport terminal. Currently hosts 3 airlines with a 4th (Frontier) being added this year. There's plenty of comfy seating and outlets. Available small shop for non-alcoholic beverages and a few snack items inside the terminal. Food truck with outdoor patio right outside and easily access through the terminal. Fast check-in with politely TSA staff. Also, easy and convenient parking. Minimal traffic around terminal. Special note: Terminal is separate from the main airport!!!

Yelp
Super easy to grab bags because the carousel is right inside. Easy drop off from Uber. Loved it!

Yelp
The TSA agents here are absolute mo*ons. They caused me to miss my flight. They kept saying my name showed up as Sanchez in their system and refused to let me through even after the airline agent came and showed them my reservation was correct. They just refused to do anything. I asked them to call their supervisor and when he waddled over he finally figured out the procedure is to enter my name manually but of course my flight had left already. They don't know how to do their own jobs. They also decided to search my luggage after the ordeal. At least I got to tell them how worthless they are to their face. I chewed them out so good security had to ask me to leave. To TSA reading this: you are a pathetic waste of tax payer money and will never amount to sh*t in your life. TSA is the Pinnacle of your existence. Enjoy your obesity

Yelp
If you're flying Allegiant Airlines to Austin, TX Pros: +CHEAP FLIGHTS +Small Terminal, Breeze through Security +Nice Waiting Area, lots of plugs to recharge devices. Modern seating. +Free Wifi +Don't have to worry about your gate number! Cons: -NOT IN MAIN AIRPORT, in fact it's it's own tiny terminal -15 min Shuttle Ride away, plus time waiting on shuttle to arrive. Give yourself AMPLE TIME! -Board planes OUTSIDE. -No shops, souvenirs, etc -LIMITED SNACKS & FEW DRINKS TO PURCHASE Only hot food may be a Food Truck outside. & Don't forget that there are NO FREE DRINKS on Allegiant Flights. Just remember, if you're flying Allegiant, you get what you pay for ! HAPPY TRAVELS!

Yelp
I would love to fly out of here from now on. Easy to park, free WiFi, easy to get through TSA, walk on the plan and go. I have nothing to complain about here. I mean I had to wait a bit for an airline employee at the ticket counter but that was because he was dealing with plane just landing. This is what every airport should be like. Glad I am got to experience the South Terminal for once.

Yelp
This oddball of a place catches your attention with its retro vibe. Allegiant and Frontier only fly out of this terminal - this terminal is in the middle of nowhere. I guess the cheap flights from those two companies make up for it with all the gas you're using to get there lol. My complaint is that we waited in lines FOREVER. You'd think that with only two airlines in this terminal that everything would proceed as quickly as possible, but be sure to arrive 3 hours before your flight departs. Another note: TSA does random checks to everyone - they even did them before we went on the actual plane (where they scan your ticket and you walk onto the plane). Weird. Also this airport is very reminiscent of the Burbank airport in which you have to enter and exit the plane outside so there are a bunch of rails you have to walk through. My calves were on fire and I'm not sure how easily accessible for the handicapped it truly is. Another downside is that there's only one little store that has a bar in it & the lines for it extend out into the seating area. It's a mess and I feel badly for the employees of the little shop in such a tiny area. For food there's a cute little taco truck outside but that's it. Also seating is horrible. I sat on the floor for almost two hours and I had to lie to someone holding 4 seats (for over 30 min) that I was pregnant and needed to sit. smh!!

Yelp
This is an airport within an airport. It is actually on the other side of the runway from Austin main terminal. Since there is no structure that connects the two, you are stuck driving the long way around. That said, it has a nice vibe and all the benefits of being small. The biggest flaw is that you need to take a shuttle bus to the rental car lot-at the main terminal. You WILL need to budget 40 minutes to the process of getting a car at a minimum. The ride is 20 minutes and the buses are not that frequent and very crowded. If you travel with kids and their luggage that can mean a pretty miserable experience. There is also limited waiting room in the terminal. If I was on business it would be really hard to sit and get work done. The tacos and beer outside would make it extra hard. If I had to guess, I would say they will expand the south terminal one more time before connecting both through an underground tram with a common drop off?

Yelp
My fiancé and I recently flew out of here, since we booked Frontier Airlines. Unless we find a stellar deal, we're avoiding this terminal all together. Cons: None of the airport parking shuttles drive here, so you have to take your regular shuttles to the main terminal then a 20-30 minute commute between the main terminal and the south terminal. The entire ride is 8 miles...which frankly makes no sense to me when the south terminal is located right behind the main terminal. Wouldn't it be more efficient to build a walkway between the two?!? The south terminal has a very "makeshift" vibe. I'd seen renderings of the terminal on our monthly Community Impact newsletter, and the end result is nothing like the images. As you pull up after your 20 minute shuttle and a 10 minute wait, you'll see what looks like a painted warehouse. And as other reviews mention, there's limited food options and you also have to walk up to your plane. And lastly, you'd expect the TSA lines to go faster given that the terminal only provides service to two airlines - wrong! We waited in line longer than we usually do at the main terminal. There is only one TSA line and there's no TSA pre-check. If you find yourself here, my best advice is to park in the south terminal parking but we're making every effort to avoid this terminal.
