I love ping pong, and was a bad-ass thirty years ago. Translation, I was a legend in my own mind!
I first went to ATTC about about 2007 or so and was intimidated by the level of play and the fact that I didn't know anyone. I didn't come back until 2009, this time with a friend in tow. He only played once with me, I was again intimidated watching other players and didn't return till Sept 2010.
I went once more with a friend, played with several people, and had lots of fun. The following week we went again, but my friend had to leave early. I watched all these awesome players, felt intimidated, again, and in comes Joel. He encouraged me to play with others, but when I appeared unwilling he asked if I would play with him. It was way fun; I suspect he felt sorry for me and let me win a few games :-). He then introduced me to two other players and I began a match with one. He said he wasn't very good then proceeded to kick my butt, LOL.
I went by myself the the next evening, they have classes on Monday and Wednesday, for a class and played for two hours with Jason, under the guidance of Ken, the ATTC teacher. This was awesome. Long story short, the club is friendly, the facility rocks, and the price is right. I was once a total ping pong wimp :-(, but thanks to Joel, Ken, and Jason I'm coming out!
What's the downside? Most of the players will kick your butt. Get over it, come on out, get better, have fun, and get your pong on!
