Google
I'm satisfied. The food was simple but delicious. The cocktails were very good and creative. Service was great as well. Very cozy place and well lighting. Street parking but free for two hours and pretty easy to find.

Google
One of the best restaurant in the near west suburbs. The food is a multi national Mediterranean vibe with tapas mezze appetizers, bread served in charming Spanish tuna tins and entrees that are tasty and beautifully prepared. The night I dined I had the steak frites and they were not shy about applying salt to those wonderful potatoes. The crispy pork belly is definitely not to be missed along with the desserts. The menus change often so show up often. There was a diverse mix of people that dined that night and is family friendly with a neighborhood feel and is a posh establishment without being pretentious. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable about the restaurant, what it produces and they genuinely seem to enjoy being there.

Google
I must say they is a great restaurant, I would have never found it or just go to it on my own if it wasn't for a friend. After 2yrs of talking about it we finally went. We ordered a lot of food but it was good. Food was great I had the steak but it really just tasted like a bland hamburger with no buns or pre seasoning. Atmosphere was nice and romantic. Our waiter could have been friendlier I let him know twice this was our first time there and just ignored the fact. I then asked for recommendations as a friend referred us and he didn't seem to enthusiastic to share. I really likes the chef or the guy that brought us our food he was more attentive than the waiter we had to tip him separately bc the 1st guys kinda sucked especially since it seemed he didn't care so much or maybe it was his off day idk but overall great place. In house pita and hummus was my favorite!

Google
Delicious food, attentive service and fun cocktails. Environment is a little loud, but all of the other positives outweigh that. I recommend the Duck Sausage Flatbread, Roman Gnocchi, Croquets and Chimmichurri Pork Belly. But really everything we ordered was great. Had an amazing time celebrating my birthday there. What a special gem in Berwyn!

Google
Love this place. Everything we had was great. Make sure you get the Mezze platter to start. Yum!

Google
Great restaurant with friendly service and amazing food. Enjoyed some great cocktails at the bar prior to dinner and the Old fashion was amazing. Enjoyed some great apps and delicious flat bread for dinner. Desert options are limited, but did not disappoint. Highly recommended!

Google
We got the chef’s tasting menu because decisions are hard. Tuna pate, shrimp on delicate little squares of polenta, tender grilled octopus, risotto, duck sausage flatbread, pork belly, salmon, with cannoli and pot du creme for dessert. This joint never disappoints.

Google
enjoyed a wonderful dinner last night, started off with the mezza platter which i highly recommend followed by the most tender octopus ive ever had then thoroughly enjoyed the scallops which were exquisite and also ordered the chicken thighs with a unique taste of its own; i was visiting from out of town but its worth the drive and i highly recommend a visit

Yelp
Autre Monde set-the-bar. I've dined at most decent restaurants in Berwyn and the surrounding suburbs, and they set the bar so high that I'm primarily disappointed when dining out in the area. It got to the point where I'd either go to Autre Monde, downtown Chicago or cook at home. The duck sausage flatbread is the best on the planet. Duck sausage, truffle oil, smoked veggies, and a rock star crust make it the perfect comfort food. If I had to choose my last meal before death, this may be it! Autre Monde is about as close to Michelin-star-type cuisine as you will find in this neighborhood. The octopus is to die for and consistently cooked to perfection every time, just like their meat and fish. I've never had my food overcooked there, and it comes out exactly how I like it each time. The chefs are pros; Dan, Arty, and the crew run a tight kitchen. The staff is well-seasoned and friendly, and you won't have to wait for a drink at the bar or table. Liz, Doug, and the other bartenders are mixologists and make delicious cocktails. The food comes out ready with excellent presentations relatively quickly. They function like an orchestra, playing in the key of spices. The patio is well-put together; between the décor and landscaping, you feel as though you are at a winery. It's nestled in the backyard with walls and large fences, making for a quaint and quiet experience. The wine list and selection will please any pallet, and the well-versed wine experts on staff will aid you in selecting the right pairing with your meal. They have an enjoyable, eclectic art and movie selection that plays ongoing on a screen behind the bar, including movies like Clash of the Titans and Amazon Women on the Moon. The music is consistently good, never annoying, regardless of the year, genre, or artists they play. I challenge other restaurant owners and chefs to dine at Autre Monde in their free time so they can experience how the bar sets and raise their own. Keep rockin' over there, team! Ira

Yelp
Autre Monde is a lovely setting. Set up for a great dining experience. The cocktails were solid. Great flavors. We shared with each other, which meant we all got to try a few. Started with crochets and the octopus. The crochets were nothing special. Mine was not hot when served, kinda cold inside. The octopus was great. Perfectly cooked and great sauce. Our waiter, Paul, let us try a few of the red wines before we committed to a bottle. Thanks Paul!! We ordered the chicken thighs and the ribeye steak special. The chicken was solid. Well cooked and nice sauce. The steak was tender and flavorful. A little thin for a prime ribeye, in my opinion. Overall, a really nice experience. The Autre Monde menu is pretty short, which is fine. But they need to swap out menu items more often. We went about 2 years ago, and many of the menu items were exactly the same.

Yelp
We had so much fun! It was so lovely. If you are coming in the winter I recommend making a reservation the dining area is pretty small. We came at 8:30 on a Friday night and it was packed. We got the tasting menu which is $69 per person. Now that might sound expensive- but it is bang for your buck. Technically 5 courses but they gave us a bonus course and some courses have multiple dishes. We came in about to die of hunger, and struggled to eat all the amazing food. Highlights. The wine list- they were so helpful in offering good pairings. They even gave us a lovely glass of port with dessert. The duck sausage pizza- this has ruined me for all other pizza. Sounds like it would be snooty but it's just an honest amazing pizza. Shrimp cooked in a falafel batter- is an ingenious idea. Finally the octopus- not tough at all they served it with caper berries which was something I've never had before! Perfect for a date night or a special event. These people know what they are doing. Only downside I could possibly think of is the space is loud and lively. We will be coming back for sure.

Yelp
Yummms! Nice atmosphere for a date and great food for brunch, when they offered it . They no longer have brunch pre covid

Eric Y.

Yelp
The tasting menu remains one of the best deals anywhere. So much delicious food! I wish the wine menu was deeper.

Yoriko N.

Yelp
Although this is a cafe, they serve healthy and favorable dishes. Every dishes were made to perfect, from potion, favor, and presentation. Staff was attentive. Price was reasonable for such kind of quality food. Cesar salad was so fresh and asparagus was perfectly cooked. I like the way they made the salad. The environment is cosy and comfortable. Definitely will come back again.

Gene L.

Yelp
Pros: pretty good food and service Cons: somewhat pricey, limited menu, close seating The falafel fried shrimp was good but at $18 a dish, it was really appetizer size and not a dish. Lamb shoulder was good but was again another small plate. Duck sausage flatbread was tasty and good in size. Messa platter was pretty good. Dessert - hazelnut pudding - was only okay (like a hazelnut Nutella). Tables were kinda close to each other but service was pretty good.

Natasha B.

Yelp
Came here for a celebration dinner. The place is super cute and staff was friendly. Only reason I took off a star is because even with a reservation we waited more than 30 min for our table. The mezze platter was delicious and a great starter! Falafel shrimp is a must- I don't like falafel typically but was blown away by the flavor and texture. Chicken thighs were ok- I thought the seasonings were good but, for me, it's hard to make chicken that exciting. For chicken, it was juicy and well spiced. The duck and sausage flatbread was a hit at the table. I personally enjoyed the onion flatbread more only because I don't like sausage. Campfire margarita was absolutely delightful. It absolutely smells like a campfire! Would come back just for this drink The downfall of the meal was the risotto, it was pretty bland and too heavy.

Noel H.

Yelp
We have become regulars here! The food is fresh, delicious, and made with care. The service is attentive and welcoming. The beverage program is thoughtful and offers something for every taste pallet. I can't wait for the spring to see the patio! I'm so glad to have a place like this Berwyn.

Sam R.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday night for my wife's birthday and everything was just perfect - had an incredibly knowledgable waiter, the ambiance was intimate and enjoyable and the food, oh the food. We did the chef's tasting menu, which ended up being perhaps too much food for us (we were warned), but everything from the asparagus to the shrimp to the croquetas was incredible. Dine at this place, you won't be disappointed.

Edward L.

Yelp
Excellent food. Chef Evan made us awesome apps and dinner. The pork chops were fantastic!

Nick E.

Yelp
Great cocktails and delicious food. Great for groups and sharing. One of the best pork chops I ever had.

Charles G.

Yelp
Good dining but it's just not my place anymore so I'm gonna have to take care of my family for the rest of this year

X Y.

Yelp
Alway excellent, though the menu has stayed the same more or less. Flatbread is magnificent.

Jeff E.

Yelp
I've lived in Oak Park for 6 years and didn't discover this place until this past year. This has become our favorite local spot when we are looking for a great meal. We have gone back several times and have yet to find anything on the menu that we didn't like!

David T.

Yelp
City casual dining and unfussy plates with an emphasis on familiar flavors joined with different foods. Want to be a regular here.

Michelle T.

Yelp
Highly disappointed with brunch. The menu was extremely limited. My guest and I both ordered the Shakshuka. It was described on the menu as poached eggs, cazuela, with potatoes, chorizo and tomatoes. It came in a bowl, not a typical cazuela and it was reminiscent of deconstructed sloppy Joe's (without the Manwich flavoring) and two poached eggs on the side. It had more ground beef (that wasn't stated on the menu) than actual chorizo. A little spicy. The potatoes were basically thickly cut French fries. I ate less than half of this entree because it wasn't appetizing and looked like slop. My guest and I shared a side of pancakes from the kids menu because that's where they were listed. The pancakes were served burnt. In order for me to enjoy them I packed on the butter and syrup and was far too famished to ask for a new set. The server inquired if I wanted to take the dish to go because he noticed a lot of food left on my plate and I said, "no thanks." Then he asked why didn't I like it and I was about to have a Gordon Ramsay moment but all I said truthfully was, "it tastes like sloppy joes." I hope I didn't come off rude but I really didn't enjoy eating it let alone pay $12 for it. I took a shot at Autre Monde because of the great reviews on Yelp and used a Groupon but this experience turned out to be a miss. Walking up to the restaurant my Dad said, "what is this place? Looks like another place trying to be hip." For the area, I would have to agree with my Dad's statement. The taste of the food wasn't bad but the combination of the platter was poor. I rather order the Nutella French toast from the kids menu or maybe I should have chosen the lamb burger. $44 total for tea, coffee, slop, and a side of burnt pancakes. Totally not worth it. I most likely won't be returning.

Nicole S.

Yelp
Complex flavors both for the food and for the cocktails! The menu is very small but changes seasonally. The food and drink experience is perfect for date night, but it is a bit loud due to the restaurant size. I'd hang out on the patio in the summer when possible.

Raissa A.

Yelp
The pride of Berwyn! We've been here several times for special occasions throughout the years. Meals never disappointed. Fresh and high quality ingredients, wonderful drinks and great ambience. We went for dinner recently with a group of friends and food and service were on point. Such an awesome restaurant. I wish though they would bring back brunch; they had a to-die-for shakshuka.

Sasha D.

Yelp
Food is always amazing. One of my favorite Berwyn GEMS! Fun drinks, great atmosphere & quality food.

Kristen J.

Yelp
if you are looking for incredible food, and amazing cocktails, you've found it. We arrived early and had a cocktail at the bar, while we waited for our table and that was an amazing start. once we were seated, our hostess was fantastic, and really helped guide our selection. We had the Mezze Plate, Falafel Fried Shrimp, Duck Sausage Flatbread, and the Octopus. We will return and will be talking about this place for a long time. It was one of my favorite places we've eaten in the Chicagoland area.

Gerald B.

Yelp
The quality of the food is amazing. The risotto is the best thing I've eaten in 2021 and the other shared tapas were of the highest quality. But the wait staff always seems rushed and it was difficult to talk to them even for 10 second. I'm marking this as COVID-related staffing issues.

Julie L.

Yelp
Really like this place. Attentive service and I like that they have a variety of food influences. A nicer place but still affordable.

Mark C.

Yelp
Great place BUT...One pet peeve that keeps me from higher rating. We had a group and while it's on the bottom of the menu and it's ultimately up to me to check the bill, I appreciate...and think it should be obligatory... for servers to remind us that 20% was added to the bill already. This did not happen. After good food and wine I didn't check the bill closely enough and reflexly added another 22%....from the choices put in front of me. Sure I get that it's my fault. But the server had plenty of opportunity to either take care of me or himself! I always feels burned by this and can't help feel management should set expectations of their servers appropriately. So I won't recommend or go back.

Mary B.

Yelp
Went for Mother's Day which they had a limited special menu which they did not explain when the reservations were made. The food was ok mediocre at best not worth the price. The place could use some updating seemed old and dirty. Would not go again!

J.P. D.

Yelp
My most favorite restaurant in the near suburbs! Pork belly, the lamb ribs and stuffed peppers are our usual go to small plates. Though we've loved everything!

Marlo M.

Yelp
Came for Sunday Brunch with a great Groupon for 2! Such a cute, cozy restaurant for a date or ladies' brunch/dinner. Loved the posters used to decorate the room, and the fact they were playing a Hitchcock movie behind the bar. We each had a blood orange gimlet which were super tasty!!! The fresh fruit puree and gin definitely helped with my hangover - yay. For entrees we chose to share the Breakfast Flatbread (scrambled eggs, caramelized onions & lardon) and the Pork Belly Hash (2 fried eggs over chopped pork belly and hash browns). Before we ordered, we asked our waiter which entrees he would recommend and thankfully those are the 2 he recommended! Neither was very rich and both dishes got better with each bite. I'm happy we had a Groupon so we could give it a try! I feel the prices are a bit steep for Berwyn, but it's a nice restaurant for a date or special occasion. I don't think it's an every weekend brunch spot.

Susanna K.

Yelp
We came here for Easter once. They had a prix fixe menu, and the choices were meh. Not impressed with anything really, but I ordered a coke thinking that would be the one safe bet. The only cola they had was flavored with Agave and was called Oogave. It tasted like I was drinking Tequila and coke.. at Easter lunch... with some sort of spinach egg dish that had the consistency of scrambled eggs BEFORE you cook them. Ack. Despite this, perhaps we will try again sometime when they have the full menu to choose from. Maybe. (Agave cola? Really?)

Mike V.

Yelp
Honest review: i feel that the food was underseasoned, some dishes were just to simple with only one note my favorite thing was chicken tagine the service was good but their were a couple of issues first we asked for extra pita because there wasnt enough and we were charged an additional 4 dollars like really? why didnt u tell us. Then they ran out of the smoked lamb shank so their was lamb chops instead their was a 4 dollar up charge why didnt u tell us like that was annoying there are better Mediterranean restaurants that are more affordable and taste better the reason i am only rating one sTar is cause the only standouts were the chicken tagine n the hummus was really good Humus: the pita is delicious! Nice and fresh and warm! So much better then bread!! No complaints about the pitta bread. The humus is really good theirs no overbaring raw garlic flavor that most humuses has thats really overpowering. Its nice and fresh theres pine nuts on it for an added crunch. Then theres this tomato thing on top that really makes it supper flavorful! I was really impressed not as good as libertads hummus but a close second/ajvar its like pepper and onions blended its really good!! Like i couldnt stop eating it, i wish there was capers or olives for some acidity but still idk which one i liked better their both good on their own but together they dont taste good (if u ask for extra pita they will charge u an additional 4 dollars) fried oyster salad: i love oysters ik some people hate them because they look n smell gross but when prepared right and its fresh its the best. The actual oyster was lacking their was no seasoning on the breading it was crunchy but bland n the actual oyster was a lil fishy. The best part of this was the salad. The arugula wasnt to bitter which could sometimes be a problem. Then their is i think blood orange segments which added a nice acidic sweet note when u eat everything together it makes for tje perfect bite i would have liked more pickled onions for more acidity but its a good dish just fix the oyster Pork belly pintxos-this was my least favorite n i love pork belly. I feel it was very underseasoned like the pork belly needed salt n it is pork belly it shouldnt need that. The sauce was mostly just oil their was very lil chimichurri their needed to be more of that because it was very disappointed it was only one note pork belly n it was kinda flabby i would have preferred it more crispy i wouldnt order this again Lamb chops: the actual lamb chops were kind of bland they needed to seasoned better n some of the pieces were way to burnt theres a difference between charred and burnt. the polenta texturally was okay i would have liked it more creamy like mashed potatoes. There was a nice cheese flavor but it was very subtle i would have liked more cheese in it. Then theirs like a barbecue lamb shoulder which was really flavorful i would have preferred this over the lamb chops if u eat everything together its a nice bite just this dish has some execution issues if their fixed could be a very successful dish Chicken tagine: this was my favorite dish it was so flavorful order this! The chicken was so crispy like picture fried chicken then it is so tender not dry at all the flavor of the chicken had the perfect flavor of moroccan spices like it was so flavorful im dreaming about this dish. The cous cous was amaizing perfectly cooked and seasoned well i liked the addition of oil and peas for extra sweetness and flavor. The merguez sausage is one of the best sausages i ever had it was so flavorful and was really spicy theres only 2 pieces so put more pieces plz! Their are orange segments that adds a nice acidic sweet tone if u eat everything in one bite u will be amazed about how flavorful this dish is Pot de creme: this is just a chocolate pudding if u did not know. It tastes exactly like nutella just a more smoother softer texture. I like the addition of nuts for texture but it needed more this dish needs crunch! Nothing is better then fresh wipcream! Good dish!

Yelp
Berwyn is becoming a hot spot for restaurants. Who would have thought? A great friend introduced me to Autre Monde Cafe a few weeks ago and when there was a question as to where we should meet for dinner during a recent outing, Autre Monde Cafe was rattled off rather quickly and with no eaters' remorse. Harvest. Hummus and fava bean spreads. Mussels au sette. Moroccan chicken wings. Fontina and wild mushroom flatbread. Spicy duck flatbread. Pot de creme. Clearly, I am a man who enjoys delicious food. And if it's all good, why not turn the meal into a degustation? I don't think I could do justice to describing how much the food blew my mind. The Harvest drink that was nothing short of autumn in a glass: whiskey, cider, cinnamon, spices. The hummus and fava beans spread left me feeling a little Silence of the Gino Mediterranean style. The Moroccan chicken wings that are served with cucumber yogurt and a sweet-and-spicy pepper syrup were worth writing home about. And the flatbreads? If you want really, really, very good flatbread, Autre Monde Cafe is where you will get it. As for dessert, the pot de creme will have you making promises that you'll never keep. The price is high, indeed. The service, while it could be scrambling because the place packs out incredibly quickly, has proven to be outstanding. But Autre Monde really shines with the food. Once I come down from my food high, I will annotate a lovely editorial on my food blog and then make a reservation to return.

Rob W.

Yelp
When I come across a place with a refreshing menu whose food is good and has pleasant attentive service, I'm prone to award five starts. Such is the case with Autre Monde. Went here with my brothers and sister-in-law for the brunch. As brunches go, I typically lean toward the buffet style brunches. Autre Monde's brunch has a somewhat limited menu, but the food is good. I opted for the Spaghetti Carbonara and while it was a small portion, it was good and fairly filling. We also had a couple of appetizers - the hummus is what stood out for me and I'm not really the hummus type. But it was very good. Also had an outstanding bloody Mary - spiced the way I like it. Everyone was satisfied with their food. This is a place I'll return to for more!

Gina V.

Yelp
I think the food is too pricy here for being a cafe place. The food I ordered was substituted by something else it came charcoal burned. My son had been wanting to come here like for ever but it was a total disappointment for me. I think there was only one waitress for our side. No I will not return here.

Celeste K.

Yelp
The food is incredible and the staff are very nice and accommodating. We brought our group here and felt very welcome. Everyone in our group had different tastes and styles (some did vegetarian, some tapas-style, some just a traditional meal) but each of us loved what we ordered. From ricotta flatbread to beef ravioli to octopus, all the dishes were tender, flavorful, and unique. The drinks were really good too! I ordered a reasonably-priced glass of wine that had a phenomenal nose and tasted just perfect. It's a little on the pricey side, but the quality of the food definitely justifies the price tag, and it's well under what a similar-quality restaurant in the city would charge. This is an absolute gem in our neighborhood, and I'm sad I haven't been here before! We will definitely be coming back.

DaBears M.

Yelp
Unfortunately this restaurant was a disappointment from head to toe. Quaint atmosphere and good service but then the food arrived. We ordered a variety of 6 or so dishes and literally not one dish was seasoned or even came close to meeting even an average expectation. The biggest disappointment was the gnocchi, soggy, zero flavor and tasted more like mashed potatoes out of the box. Nothing really more to say. I'll probably stop at DD for a coffee. Au revolr

David C.

Yelp
Oh man I forgot to Yelp this place. Probably because I forgot to take pics too far into the dinner. We had the tasting menu with like 6 courses. Omg you will leave STUFFED. The food is very good and it wasn't too expensive for what you get, but you almost need a 3rd (or 4th) diner with you to help you even come close to finishing it all. They did not allow us to order one tasting course and 1 entree. We had to order 2 tasting course meals.

Fay D.

Yelp
The food was amazing and we cannot wait to come back. This was our first visit but it won't be our last! Following the fluffy, melt in your mouth croquettes, we had the the freshest, most delicious cod, scrumptious chicken with spot on tzatziki , and an amazing sausage flatbread! The chocolate hazelnut dessert was to die for, as was the almond cake.

Rohan D.

Yelp
In terms of the food quality, this could be the best restaurant in the vicinity of Oak Park, which is basically the recommendation we got on our way to a party in Oak Park. The dishes we shared varied from good to excellent but here is the first problem. This is one of those places doing the trendy shared food thing, so a couple is too small a group to get a good sampling, and six is too large a group for this tight little space. Like most of the diners here, we came as a foursome, the menu seems designed for this. However, not all the dishes are readily divisible by four (or two even), a fried chicken order was especially problematic. The one strategy that would really help this tapas-like trend would be to apply a very sharp cleaver to divide every dish into defined quarters. Actually, this is the third problem, the first problem is that the space is tight, very loud, it's just not comfortable. Go for the patio in back, it's a little better than the front part. This brings me to the second problem, (the third problem is the dividing and sharing every dish, though not all dishes are easily divisible), that's the relationship between the price and the presentation. The somewhat more comfortable patio is furnished with cheap outdoor patio furniture. The kind that if your neighbors used on their sundeck, you'd grumble about "there goes the neighborhood" at your block-watch meeting. It's not so much that I was embarrassed sitting in it, it's that I was worried it would break on me. The waitstaff dressed down, this seems to go with the tight space-loud-share dishes trend, but it was a few steps below casual. My college students dress better to fall asleep in class, my wife dresses more formally to watch television, I am more dressed up to take out the trash. Seriously one of the waiters looked like he was homeless. This is not an inexpensive restaurant, I found the back-alley-chic presentation off-putting. All in all, I don't feel like this place is worth the money, the four of us ran up about a $400 tab. Of course you'll do better if you're not drinkers, but the service quality and atmosphere aren't up to the price level. The food is very good, but doesn't warrant the prices considering the three major weaknesses as I see them. On the other hand, I think this might be the best restaurant in the area near Oak Park, so we may return.

Siobhan D.

Yelp
Stopped in for a Sunday evening meal, first time to Autre Monde. I loved that a vegetarian and an adventurous meat-eater could find 5 amazing small plates to share! We especially enjoyed the truffle grilled cheese, vegetarian tagine, porcini risotto and the duck sausage flat bread minus the sausage for me. Cool atmosphere, very attentive and knowledgeable server, unique cocktails and food so delicious, fresh & hearty on a chilly Chicago evening! I will definitely be back.

Allison P.

Yelp
Love this place! This was our first time here and I would definitely recommend trying it! We came with a small group and did small plates to share. Everything was fantastic. Our server Ian was excellent and his recommendations were in point.

DiAndriana D.

Yelp
The food is delicious We had the gyro was so fresh and delicious Had the mussels and the best ever The sauce that comes with it is out of this world

Tuttysan S.

Yelp
Good, not great. We ordered the octopus gallego style and it wasn't fresh. I could tell this was days old and was in the fridge. The dish was served cold. The mushroom flat bread was good, a little bland. The steak and fries were ok. Great service, but at the price point I expected better food.

Carolyn T.

Yelp
After keeping tabs on menu changes for a few years, I finally found myself here for a lovely evening Thursday dinner date! We arrived close to 8 without a reservation and were seated immediately near the door. Atmosphere: Even though there was a little tent outside the door in an effort to keep the cold out, I still got a big blast of cold air every time someone opened the door. The decor is very simple with a few eclectic movie posters adorning a wall and a tribute to classic movie stars on the wall of the women's bathroom. Our table was a little bit small, which would have made it difficult to fit food had we ordered more. The atmosphere might have been considered more on the romantic side, but with an almost full house, acoustics were pretty loud. We were lucky the crowds thinned a lot about halfway through our meal, making conversation much easier. It should also be noted that it's possible you may be seated at a communal table. Service: Service was great! Our waiter was a little bit slow to get to us originally. By the time he appeared, we had already decided everything we wanted to order. Our waiter was really excellent, taking the care to explain the Mediterranean, French, and Spanish influences for many of the dishes. He even explained the meaning of Autre Monde ("other world," in French). He seemed genuinely passionate about the restaurant, which furthered our excitement for our meal. Major props also go out to the hostess, who we noticed opening the door for guests, helping guests with their coats, and stepping outside to the cold tent area to answer phones so as not to contribute further to the noise levels. When she finished her shift for the night, she said goodbye to us as she was leaving. We were very impressed! Our waiter also was sure to ask us how we liked our food after each of the three courses. Food: Pita bread with white bean and pistachio hummus- The pita was exquisite and honestly the best I have ever tasted. They make it in house and it shows! It was hot, flaky, and just gently toasted, but not at all burned. Perfection. As we slathered our pita in hummus, we tried to decide which was better and couldn't decide! Our only complaint was that there wasn't enough pita for the hummus, so we ended up eating it by itself at the end. Highly recommend. Grilled octopus- If you think you hate octopus, you're wrong. Octo-haters (like my boyfriend) can't deny that they cook the octopus to perfection at Autre Monde. This isn't your standard rubbery calamari octopus, but a grilled version that can easily be chewed or even cut with a knife. This was the best grilled octopus I've ever had, easily, and it was also my favorite menu item! Order this. Three cheese gnocchi- I don't eat meat, generally, but I was willing to take a bite of the gnocchi with the shredded meat on top. It was really, really excellent. Vegetarians, if you're not picky, it's pretty easy to eat around the meat on this dish because the gnocchi just has cheese inside. This was hands down my boyfriend's favorite of our savory dishes. The gnocchi was clearly freshly made by hand and was outstanding. Brussels sprouts- This was our least favorite dish of the night. The sprouts were pretty big and were a bit difficult to chew because they seemed a bit hard; I suspect they should have cooked a bit longer. The bits of pancetta were charred a bit more than we liked and there was not much. It still wasn't a bad dish by any means, though, and fulfilled our appetite for veggies. Next time, we will try something else. Skip this. Hazelnut chocolate pot de creme- What a DREAM. This is probably one of the best desserts we have ever tried. It's basically a big cup filled with hazelnut chocolate (like nutella) that's a cross between pudding and fudge with cream on top. I don't like pudding or fudge, but this dessert knocked my socks off. Order this, no questions asked. No need to read any more. Overall, we were really pleased with our meal. For two people, it cost a little over $60, which was pretty good. We felt like we for a good value. This is a place with outstanding food in Berwyn--of all places! I will definitely return in the future. I'm anxious to try the brown butter goat cheese ravioli, which wasn't on the menu when we came!

Yelp
I've been to Autre a couple times. Food is ok, no great. Portions are small. Has a good Oak Park atmosphere. Waiter explained the menu to fast. It seems that he was in a hyper mode (on both visits)... no pleasant at all.

Yelp
This place is incredible. We've been a couple times because it's just a few blocks from our home. It's a stand-out restaurant, and overall, is a wonderful experience. My favorite experience is having gone with my husband for our anniversary dinner. We did the Chefs tasting and loved everything. The food was creative, loaded with flavor, and unique. We were treated with a glass of celebratory champagne, which made this really special. Their patio is hidden away and so cute! Can't wait for warmer months to sit and have a drink there. The price point is accurate for this place. Yes, it is more expensive than a lot of places in Berwyn, but appropriately so because the quality and experience is so good. I'm glad to have this kind of restaurant in our neighborhood.

Yelp
My family was staying in Chicago for the weekend and we were looking for a nice Sunday brunch. We were surprised by Autre Monde's superb reviews, so we decide to give it a shot. Firstly, the place is VERY FAR from downtown Chicago, so keep in mind it'll be no less than a 30 min drive (assuming no traffic) for anyone in Downtown, Loop, Hyde Park or Lincoln Park. For a place 30 min away, I had BIG expectations. And, to be fair, the place is nice, the staff is super friendly and the food is good! But definitely not worth the drive if you live in the downtown area.

Yelp
I thought this would be the perfect place to come for my 30th birthday dinner. ... and I was 3000% accurate. My favorite city in the state: Berwyn + My favorite day: My Birthday + My favorite meal of the day: Any meal I don't have to cook myself + After going to my favorite place: The Zoo + My new favorite restaurant: Autre Monde Cafe Everything about this equation spelled success and once we arrived it only went up hill from there. We came right at 5pm when they opened because now that I'm in my 30s I need to eat dinner before most people are out of work. I think that's a good plan as I'm sure this place gets packed to the gills during prime-er times. Even right at 5 there was a small line out the door waiting for the doors to open and to be sat. Inside is clean and open with tinge of old school pop culture. The menu is set to Mediterranean tapas-style plates, an immaculate cocktail & artisan spirits list, and an enviable wine list featuring a long list of reds and whites from the Balkans, South Africa, and more. If you're a wine aficionado it's worth the trip here alone- they've certainly done their homework. I'd actually been keeping a close watch on Autre Monde since it's opening days and while their menu changes seasonally to accommodate the freshest and finest quality ingredients, I knew exactly what I wanted/needed/simply had to have. *DRINKS* // Med Mule + House-Infused Tangerine Vodka, Ginger Beer, Fresh Lime, Fresno Chili Garnish // Classic Old Fashioned + Whiskey, Demerara Syrup, Anagostura Bitters, Orange Bitters, Citrus Zest, Bandied Cherries // Blood Orange Gimlet + Ford's Gin, Jo Snow Hibiscus Orange Blossom Syrup, Blood Orange Puree, Fresh Lime *BITES* // Piri Piri Mussels + the saffron, the couscous, everything. If I didn't think the cast iron pan was piping hot, I'd have sipped the juices straight outta there. // Wood-Grilled Octopus + Even my boo who normally dislikes octopus couldn't help himself. The veggies, the sauce, the 'pus. It was flavorful and refreshing and a must when you go. // Prawns + Soon to be added to the menu, thankfully. These babies were to die for. I ate the whole thing! I'm talking the eyes, the shell, the butt, I ate the whole prawn and had no regrets. One of the best dishes I've had in a long while. // Goat Cheese Tortellacci + GET THIS. It's unreal. UNREAL. I don't really even dig pasta, but this was in a whole different class. Just trust me on this one. I think it's gotta be their house specialty because it doesn't get much better than these bad boys. // Fontina & Wild Mushroom Flatbread + Light, crisp, buttery, and easy to devour on your own or share with your dining partner. // Chocolate Hazelnut Pot De Creme + Holy lord! It was outstanding. I *somehow* managed to go from beyond stuffed to fighting to get every last bite I could get out of that pot. My guy and I rounded out our meal thrilled with everything and declaring this our new date night spot. We rarely agree on much, especially food and particularly going out to eat (which he hates), but he was quick to note that he could see himself eating like this everyday in a perfect world. Life's short. Why not?

Yelp
When a friend called and said I had to try this new place in Berwyn, I said sure . . .although I wasn't exactly sure just where Berwyn was. And why, if this place was so great, it was in Berwyn? But on a recent Thursday night- we went to check it out. Autre Monde is located on Roosevelt among drugstores, banks and on a road that is under construction (what road isn't these days?) so you might just drive by it's subtle location. But don't. Stop in and check this place out. The server described the food as "Mediterranean influenced" and whatever you want to call it, it was quite good. And they tout their "farm to table" with a greenhouse that they grow fresh vegetables that they use in their dishes. We started with the grilled octopus which was delicious served with roasted tomatoes and capers. We also tried the burrata (ask for more toasted bread you are going to need more than the two pieces provided to scoop up all of this deliciousness), and the pecorino cheese sticks (odd consistency but tasty). For our entrees- we both chose a pasta dish; me the tagliatelle over pured peas with shrimp and my friend the salty pork ravioli. I think my dish was the tastier as when they say "salt" know that they aren't kidding! It was very salty. Know that all the dishes are meant to be shared so what you order may not come up at the same time as your dining companion's so if you want your own entree and appetizer, you may be eating in shifts! As for the downsides? First of all, the place is LOUD! It is really hard to have a conversation so you end up practically yelling at each other which doesn't help the noise level. And while I appreciated the starkness of the interior, the metal chairs are uncomfortable and do not encourage you to linger. And because they are still working out the "new place" issues, drinks didn't come that were ordered, and the bus staff kept grabbing plates that we weren't finished with yet. There is a patio slated to open soon (if not already although I didn't see it) and the plan is for Autre Monde to serve brunch starting in late August or September. Dinner for two was under $100 with a couple of drinks each. The decor is minimal but someone did tell me they were thinking about installing draperies to help with the noise problems. Parking is free on the surrounding streets. Always fun to find the kind of restaurant that I expect to see in the city, in an unexpected place, like Berwyn. But now that I've been here- you can bet I will be back. But this time I'm going to be smarter about those chairs and choose to sit at the banquette along the wall!

Yelp
So my friend raved about brunch at this place so we finally checked it out and I am so glad we did. It's a little on the price side and the portions are on the smaller side but I think it was worth it and at the end, I was actually full. Motown was playing the whole time we were there, so that alone reeled me in. The place is small and has an urban feel. Think breakfast tapas, we shared: Fennel Sausage Gravy, Swiss Chard & Brioche - It was a very tasty twist on sausage and gravy. Great scrambled eggs, Black Truffle - Whoa, make sure to mix this with the sausage gravy. and last but not least, Strawberry crepes filled with marscapone cheese - Oh. Em. Gee. Ecstasy. That's all I have to say about those. I'll have to go back and check out the dinner menu but the brunch menu is a MUST!

Yelp
This is a cute small place with good food and great service. We went in for a small dinner- we shared 3 small plates and had a glass of wine each. It was the perfect amount, plates were served at the right times. It's definitely staying on our list.

Yelp
I was super excited to try this spot as it has been getting good reviews. I visited on a weekend evening and we had a reservation and were quickly seated. It wasn't very busy when we arrived (early), but it did fill up, so I would suggest reservations if you're trying to eat at a certain time. I have to admit, that I was somewhat surprised that the waitress immediately mentioned that the menu had a list of definitions on the back for 'unique' menu items. I'm not sure if I eat out a lot or at unique spots, but I knew most of them and some were quite common (I thought), but obviously they think they need this...so, it must work for them. I tried both some wine (quite good) and the orange vodka drink (vodka made with oranges)...both were quite good (that orange vodka - wow!) and reasonably priced. Then, we tried a flatbread (mushroom - a bit salty, somewhat greasier than I expected and very thin - more of like a pastry bottom). We also had the large ravioli with brown butter and I think it was ricotta and another item in the filling. I thought this was pretty good, but SO SALTY...really really really salty. wow. The two best menu items were the meat and cheese to start - really delicious, the pate was amazing and the portion size was excellent. I could have done with more bread, but that's always how I feel! Dessert was also a standout. It was a cinnamon cake thing and I literally wanted to lick the bowl. Service was ok, but I think our server was the only person for most (all?) of the restaurant, so it was a little slow at times though the spot wasn't very busy. The atmosphere was bright and not really for me...it had some interesting touches, but didn't seem to blend really well together. It was kind of cute, but seemed a little impersonal. I think prices skew a bit pricey for the area and if the middle dishes were better, I perhaps wouldn't have noticed so much, but things were hit or miss for me. Overall an ok spot and a nice touch for the area, but I personally woudl stick to drinks, appetizers and dessert.
