I rarely chance upon an almond croissant that warrants a solid 5 stars!! Flaky, well baked without a burnt almond taste. Abundance of almonds and good amount of paste, enhanced by a low amount of sugar! You can taste all the flavours ! I usually will only eat half of most almond croissant because they tend to be overdosed with sugar but not this one !

Everything I tried was extremely delicious, especially their pistachio croissants and peach pastry. Buttery, not to sweet but sweet enough, just the right taste to feel the fruit and nuts. If you want to try pistachio croissants visit them before 12PM. They do only 5-7 croissants per day. Otherwise you risk to stay hungry and angry.

I have tried six other croissants on that guide and I agree this is the best! Even without coffee it tastes so good, full of flavor, warm and fresh. We came like early 8:30 on a Saturday morning. When we finished, the line queued up fast. And many customers spoke French. Not over buttery to disgust the stomach flaky just enough to keep the structure The most important thing is they are all made on spot. It is worth of you paying a specific visit. I would love to be a frequent visitor.

Great, just great pastries. Are they the best, I don’t know; are they very, very good, yes. Whatever you do, don’t go anywhere else around here for a croissant; and if Gail’s is the summit of your pastry experience, then stop doing that and come here you fools. The baguettes I’ve seen some people complain about the price of, but they are MASSIVE - you could easily share one between two, and the quality of the filling for the cheese and ham is excellent. Buy something from here, then go find a nearby green space.

If you are looking amazing croissants for breakfast just like in France, or looking for any savory danishes, sandwiches for lunch and even tarts. This is my all time favorite. I am so impressed by the food and service that this has become my every day stop. I really appreciate the friendliness of the staff that makes the ambiance and the food taste even better. For me that is Love that they add and I for one feel that should be the # 1 thing every restaurant or bakery should do to keep us as repeat customers!!!!!!

This place is my new find and now my favourite bakery in London! I’m so impressed, the croissants and pastries do not disappoint! They are absolutely delicious and the best I’ve had. The sandwiches are also super tasty! The service is very friendly which doesn’t go unnoticed and another reason to keep coming back for more.

Came here to try the croissant, after reading about them online. It was as delicious as I hoped - the choc almond croissant had a perfect mix of almond and chocolate, flaky pastry and a soft interior. Lovely friendly team behind the counter, and was tempted into an Apple danish while there. Well worth a visit.

Every time we've been in London, we've made a point to stop here and purchase their delectable treats. The pastries are absolutely divine, with irresistibly flaky layers. The Croque Monsieur is an exquisite delight. If you're in the area, a visit to this charming bakery is an absolute must--you won't regret it.

Fabulous cafe right across from Kings Cross / st. Pancreas station! We stopped by 3 times during our short trip for flat whites, pastries and fresh squeezed orange juice! There are SO many tasty sweet and savory pastry options to choose from. You can't go wrong with anything you order! Super friendly customer service with some outdoor seating available. This spot is so good we came back twice in one day!

Definitely the best croissant in London. This patisserie has everything your heart desires. The croissant is perfect, inside and out, served by friendly staff in a quaint shop. There are only a few seats inside, so be prepared to grab your pain au chocolat or baguette to go, but regardless, you're going to leave satisfied and happy.

The best almond croissant I've had in London..., and maybe the entire world (I may have liked it even better than the one in Paris, which was totally unexpected). Was warm when I still got it, and the almond filling is heavenly with a crunchy exterior. Pastry had a perfect balance of butter and sugar. Every bite was indulgent and the size was just perfect.

We love to try notable spots and really wanted a fresh warm almond croissant so we set out to catch one right when they opened . We were the first customers that day. As we peered in the door a few minutes to 0700 we noticed a basket in the counter with a couple of croissants and 2 or 3 almond croissants. We stepped in and asked for fresh ones-assuming these has been left from the day before (there were telltale crumbs in the other baskets) . They assured us the two were fresh-but alas, as we walked out with our bags, we tasted them and found them to be cold and a little tough. Such a disappointment .

Very nice bakery with kind of home-made pastries. I had a Pain au Chocolat which was huge but very "light and airy" that you could eat several of them!

OMG such great bakeries! I love their almond croissant as well as the tarts. Both were very different from most ones I tried in the US and were really delicious! Just the right almond of butter and sugar, that went well with the floor and dough. Love it so much! Would recommend their croissants and tarts for sure :)

Aux Pains de Papy is an unassuming bakery, but don't let looks fool you. Here's where they bake the best croissants in the entire UK! The chocolate almond croissant is heavenly--though also huge and insanely indulgent, so maybe split it with a friend. A must-stop bake shop next time you're craving a sweet pastry.

On the way from King's Cross to our hotel, I caught the scent of France. Right there on the grey London pavement it smelled like my youth; fresh breads and just-sweet-enough pastries. I called out to my husband to stop so I could find the source and there it was - Aux Pains de Papy. The small shop was so crowded I could just peek, so we decided we should drop off our bags at the hotel and return. Unfortunately we were delayed by an unexpected nap on the hotel bed (these things do happen after lengthy travel) and once back to the bakery I learned that APdP sells out briskly in the mornings! There were still croissants filled with sauced mushrooms available so we each got one and a cup of tea. Crisp, savoury, perfectly filling for a light meal, and vegetarian-friendly a well! The next day I had to indulge in a pistachio eclair for my breakfast while my husband had a croissant (and some of my eclair); both were splendid, with the eclair offering a rich cream filling inside a tender cloud of pastry with more pistachio on top. On the way back to the train station to head off to Spain a few days later, I had to get more pastries for the wait at the airport and I'm so glad I did - if anything can bring tranquility to a hectic day of delayed flights and changing gates, it's their ideal example of an eclair. Anything you get here will be a delight and a comfort!

Excellent selection of sandwiches for both herbivores and carnivores. The bread especially is crunchy and a delight to chomp on on a morning walk. Croissants are freshly made and melt in your mouth.

This place is a wonderful secret, a French bakery that feels like it should be in France, but happens to have gotten lost near Kings Cross, lucky for me. The croissants and other delicate pastries here are flaky, light, and utterly delicious. The Paris-Brest choux pastry blew me away with its incroyable praline filling. Coming here feels like going to an amazing patisserie in France; the desserts here are so well-made and special. It's a tiny place though so I would get takeaway; my freshly squeezed orange juice and Drury tea was delicious. The pain au chocolat and the Paris-Brest are my favourites so far, but I have yet to snag an almond croissant before they are all gone. The strawberry tart is as tasty as it is pretty. The tartine was well-made, although not my favorite and I wasn't a big fan of the chocolat tart either, but the almond tart was amazing. I am definitely coming back for more and can't wait to take home a baguette! Update: I did come back for more and I have to share what I found out. The almond pear tart is heavenly, like the Paris-Brest, both to die for. The almond croissant is great, but I prefer the almond chocolate croissant for people who like rich flavours. In terms of drinks, the orange juice here is freshly squeezes and delicious. The coffee here is super strong, so ask for only one shot if you're like me and you're not used to it. I recommend the tea, which is made by french gourmet tea makers Mariage Frères. Sounds fancy and definitely tastes fancy, loveliest English Breakfast tea by a mile. For takeaway savouries, I've only tried the cold camembert, tomato and honey baguette and the four cheese Croque Monsieur which was comforting after I warmed it up in the oven. The camembert was alright, I wasn't that big a fan because of the brown bread and preferred the extremely cheesy Croque Monsieur.

After traveling for about three weeks in Italy and having a cornetto (kind of like a lighter cousin of the croissant) for breakfast daily, I declared en route to Aux Pains de Papy that I would NOT be having a croissant for breakfast. We entered la très charmante boulangerie and I spied the almond croissant, and I instantly blurted out that I would have one, with a flat white. At least I ordered something other than a cappuccino! The croissant was ABSOLUMENT INCROYABLE! Perfectly flaky, perfectly sweet, and perfectly devoured. I loved the buzz about the place with French flying out of almost everyone's mouths, and the most delicious pastries going inside of them. Very friendly service and so worthy of a repeat visit to try the other goodies, but unfortunately it was closed on Saturday morning (quelle horreur!) so I suppose it's only open during the week. The French definitely have the Italians beat on the breakfast pastry front, and one of these divine croissants filled me up all morning. La Perfection...no need for translation here.

I was immediately drawn to the strawberry tart, I mean look at it! But with a lot of pastries, just because it looks good doesn't always mean it'll taste good. This was well above the exception. Every bite had enough sweet strawberry taste that wasn't overpowered by the buttery crust. I thoroughly enjoyed every single morsel and I would love to go back as many times as I could. I also had the chocolate croissant which was also delectable, but you want to try something truly one of a kind I would go for the strawberry tart.

Cute small bakery with a few seats to have a delicious breakfast or snack of all the wonderful pastries of France. It was so good I forgot to take a picture. Croissants, croquet madam and so many other scrumptious delights.

First time in today, bought a simple loaf, rather large, of Viennoise bread. It's really , really good. I am going to be going back and updating this post but I have a feeling it will be one rave after another. Update: 2/10/ 2017 Second time visiting today. Pain au chocolats are the real deal. So good. So happy this excellent bakery is within walking distance.

This is a fantastic patisserie. The staff are French so this feels like a very authentic place. The aroma alone will sell you their wonderful pastries. If this place was a film it would be Forget Paris as you don't need to travel to France for fine food anymore.

Most delicious butter croissant I've had outside Paris. This is a small bakery with limited indoor and outdoor seating. They had some pain au chocolate, baguettes, lunch food (croquet monsieur) and delicious looking desserts (tarts aux pommes and eclairs.). I will definitely be coming back. note: I had trouble finding this because the map pin in yelp and Apple maps is wrong. It had the location next to 248, when it's down the opposite side of the street. Use google maps- it's generally right. Yelp please fix.

We visited our daughter that lives in the area and went to this bakery based on her suggestion. This place is mainly a place to buy items. Limited variety but Excellent bakery, excellent quality, nice people, you should try it.

The breads and pastries look and smell heavenly but this place was so hot and crowded I couldn't even bear to remain inside. There are two bare tables outside on the street where one might eat, but no atmosphere there to draw anyone in or invite one to linger. Definitely primarily a take away place.

I feel very very strongly about Aux Pains de Papy. Non! I feel...TRES strongly. My Mum is a French (everything, but especially) patisserie fanatic. And good thing, too, because when she visits me in London she seeks out some hidden gems. Like...Aux Pains de Papy. I know, I know, it was terrible timing for her to make this discovery in early January, right after I'd resolved to turn my back on holiday excesses. But...je ne regrette rien! Aux Pains de Papy is a small spot on Gray's Inn Road, just south of the King's Cross hub. If I understand correctly, one brother does the breads and more savouries, and the other brother the patisserie. To date I've had the pain aux raisin, the almond croissant, the standard croissant, and also a delicious (for lack of a better term) "savoury danish" filled with a béchamel-style filling and tiny squares of bacon. There are filled baguettes, and quiches, and eclairs and cakes and tarts, to boot. All look beautiful. My ode - and all 5 stars - goes out to the humble croissant, executed perfectly here. It is buttery and flakey, but with a tender inside. It is PERFECT. Parfait! No, but actually. Go here. You will NOT be disappointed. Fantastic french bakery with delicious, flaky and buttery croissants and pains-au-chocolat. The brioches cremes are also tasty!

Yummmmm.....PASTRIESSSS!! Was looking for a quick brekky and in desperate need for a coffee. Aux Pains de Papy came into sight!! My family and I walked in and enjoyed some croissants, french toast and baguettes.... Really enjoyed it :) Note that there isn't a lot of seating inside.

Great ham and cheese croissant, almond croissant, Paris brest. Baguette sandwich is also great. I didn't have coffee or tea, so can't make any recommendations on that. Highly recommend this place. for their croissant. Thumbs up.

You must go to this bakery. Everything I've had was exemplary. The croissant is light as a feather, delicate crispness, buttery flavour, BUT not at all greasy like some (lesser quality) pastry can be. Also try the pain au chocolate and the cinnamon croissant. The cinnamon has just the right mix of sugar and spice! The shop is quite small, so most people just place their orders and head off on their day, but there is a tiny counter space with a few high stools upon which one may perch. Go mid-morning, have an espresso and croissant and people watch. Note that there is less of a selection of items on Saturdays, so for best selection stop during the week.

Wow, I can't believe there are no reviews yet for Aux Pains de Papy. This place is fabulous! Yesterday morning I found myself stuck in King's Cross with a platform so crowded that I couldn't get on it even after a train came by. I decided to walk to the City instead. And that is how I discovered this fabulous bakery. I normally have breakfast at work, since it's free, but something about this enchanting bakery drew me across the doorstep. I was greeted by rich, yeasty waves of warm air heralding the croissants that were about to change my life. I wanted to empty every last penny from my purse and buy everything inside, but of course I still had a full day of work ahead of me, and walking in with arms full of bread would mean I'd have to share. I settled for a croissant with ham, cheese and bechamel, and a Pain au Raisin which I ate on the go. That croissant saved my day, as I ended up having to work through lunch. I couldn't have wished for a better improvised lunch. Sadly, when I voluntarily walked back to King's Cross instead of taking the Tube, I found the bakery closed for the evening. This morning I made the final decision: I am changing my daily commute. From now on I will leave earlier so I can get off at King's Cross, and walk the 25 minutes to work in the City, just so I can buy bread here. The beautiful, buttery, flaky croissants at Aux Pains de Papy are infinitudes better than the sad, dry, crumbly croissants I used to get as a child on vacations to France. These are fresh, chewy, crunchy and soft, and a beautiful golden brown. I tried one of their rustic looking multigrain loaves as well, handcrafted into a short braid. I ate the whole loaf for lunch, I simply couldn't stop. Such delightful chewy crust with grains and seeds, and the softest interior I've ever seen on a multigrain loaf. Mmm... So I gained a 25 minute walk on my commute, but more importantly, I gained knowledge of the finest French bakery in London. Family owned and run!

Love this place. Very authentic, great food, great atmosphere. The staff is all French and very caring. My only gripe is they are closed on weekends!

Walking past this place in the morning, you get an intense whiff of the deliciousness that is inside. There is a wide assortment of breads, pastries, and more. They seem to be authentically French, and everything is priced quite reasonably. Choose to eat in at the rather limited seating or have it to take away. At my last visit, I ordered a plain croissant and a fresh batch had just happened to come out of the oven, so instead of picking from the pile of croissants that had laid out for a time, the cashier brought me a fresh one from the back - still hot. It was perfectly flaky and delicious, and was an excellent start to my day. Highly recommend if you're anywhere near King's Cross on a weekday morning.

They have the best pain au chocolat I've had in London (so far)! We were just going to pick some up on our way to another place for brunch, but the deliciousness kept us trapped in the small cafe all afternoon, with excellent service and the most heavenly refreshing fresh orange juice! We ended up trying most of the pastries there, the pain au chocolat and paris brest pastries were the highlights, I am definitely coming back soon!!
