London’s Best Greek or Greek-Cypriot Restaurants for Mezze and Souvlaki | Eater London

"Avenida is old-school in all the best ways. It’s from an era when going to a restaurant was an event, with a rustic taverna setting and a menu that not only includes mezze, but prawn cocktail and veal Milanese, too. This is the antithesis to the hip Hellenic eateries opening throughout the capital. Part of Avenida’s charm is that it hasn’t moved past the eighties: the souvlaki is still called “Kebab à la Grecque,” a memento of a time when Londoners weren’t sure what kleftiko was yet and Greek restaurateurs had to make a few compromises. There aren’t many places like Avenida left anymore, and even though the exceptional cooking somehow only comes in at two courses at £14.50, customers still dress up as though they’re going to a Michelin-starred establishment in Mayfair. Order that side of prawn cocktail with the “chicken kebab,” and don’t feel bad about it." - Chris Cotonou

This place knows how to serve amazing food, very well cooked and presented! From starters to desserts everything was delicious, and the drinks were also incredible. The portions are huge I brought home leftovers. The service was impeccable, very nice, and polite waiters, we felt very welcome. The prices are also reasonable and even more if we consider the quality, the presentation and the size of the portions. I will certainly be back with the whole family. There’s live music on Saturdays which makes it even better. The vibe of this place is great.

This is an authentic Brazilian restaurant. Not commercialised, which is so good. I literally forgot on the odd time that I was in the UK, as I'm not as used to authentic restaurants as I am the commercial ones. Food was decent, the portions are pretty massive, especially the burgers. I struggled to finish it. There was a live band playing and people were dancing inside the restaurant. It seems really cool, a nice local family friendly restaurant. Prices are decent too. There is a patio area for people who want to eat outside and also have dogs. Definitely worth going for the experience!

I didn't expect a restaurant to have everything perfect, from the kind and fast staff to the perfect food and a totally Latin atmosphere! We were served by a waiter who also spoke Italian, and we need more people like him in the world to make it a better place! It's also great that if you're a group at the same table, they take separate orders so when you pay, everything is more orderly and quicker!

I just wanted to share some feedback from my recent visit. The food was absolutely amazing—we absolutely loved it! But unfortunately, the service was completely opposite. Our waitress didn't come to take our order—I had to go find her. She wasn't friendly, barely made eye contact, didn't look at us once during the meal, and didn't clear the table when we finished. When we approached to pay, she simply said, "Oh, do you want to pay the bill?"—no hello, no apology, nothing. What made matters worse was seeing a service charge added to the bill; in fact, I didn't even see the bill before pay otherwise I would ask to be remove, despite the lack of service. Furthermore, I found her outfit unprofessional for a restaurant setting. Her exposed midriff was truly embarrassing. I just wanted to let you know, because the food truly deserves better service. To be honest all the service charge should go to the kitchen.

Avenida Brasil is a great spot for a lively lunch, especially if you’re with a big group of friends. The atmosphere is vibrant and welcoming, making it a perfect place to enjoy good food and drinks while soaking in the energy of the place. The highlight was definitely the live music—fantastic performances that added to the experience and made the meal even more enjoyable. Service was friendly, and the food was tasty, though a few minor details could be improved. Overall, a great place for a social lunch with amazing entertainment!

I usually come on Sundays with my church group and Nicolas often serves us. He’s always charismatic, alert, and makes sure we’re looked after. He brings a good energy to the atmosphere, it genuinely improves the experience.

Nikolas is truly a master of customer service , always polite, attentive, and ahead of everything. Just like our dear Fernanda, Gustavo, and Pedro, he goes above and beyond every single time. What an amazing team! The service is simply outstanding. Thank you all for the dedication and care!

This restaurant is slightly hidden in the centre of little Portugal, despite its large size and colourful facade that stands in clear contrast with the otherwise gloomy bus station it is facing. Despite all that, the restaurant does it's best to take you out of the grey city vibe, and give you the illusion of a sunshiny, exotic experience. The wooden terrace outside is covered in lush green plants and flowers, and is a great option on warmer days with lovely atmosphere. While we did not sit inside, the interior looked nice too, and live music was playing which is a big big plus, and really boosts the mood. Food lovers, beware! The portions are large and heavy and that is reflected on the price! Do not overorder, like we did, as even a few starters can fill you up, but one main, especially a burger can knock you down with it's sheer size. Also, the mains we tried came with sides and garnish galore, so I'd not advise to get sides unless super necessary. I tried the fish option which was lovely and super filling. Just the right amount. We also ordered chicken hearts, cheese balls, and halloumi fries. Cocktails and drinks are pretty authentic too. Staff was super kind and friendly, and very helpful. Overall lovely experience & highly recommended. 🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴
