Avenida Peru

This was my first time trying Peruvian food and it was delightful. The waitress informed us restaurant recently made changes and significantly reduced its menu. It did not have a lot of options but we did order different plates. Food was very well seasoned and was made fresh. The drink made from fermented corn was delicious and had a subtle taste. The salad was plain only had carrots, lettuce, and tomato.

Avenida Peru shifted gears after opening their second restaurant (Lima Restaurant). They moved the whole menu to the new restaurant and turned this into a polleria with some traditional street food options. The pollo a la brasa is OUTSTANDING! We chose the full chicken with French fries and salad and left stuffed with plenty of leftovers! Delicious chicha morada, too. I’m hoping that they do well because the food is amazing but two groups apparently thought it was still a full menu and they didn’t stay. I hope they either rebrand the restaurant or add a few more items to the menu. Definitely going back!

Every time we come we order the ceviche and the lomo saltado because both are so extraordinary and they balance each other so well with the contrasting flavors. Just really freaking good food. The restaurant doesn’t look like much from the outside but Avenida Peru knocks it out of the park every time.

Good place. No longer a ceviche place. It is now more grilled and fried peruvian street food. Limited menu. Good nice service and warm ambiance. All ceviche etc moved to a restaurant called LIMA few miles away from this one.

Delicious fresh food! We loved this place and the atmosphere. We had the classic ceviche and the jalea 😋 with chicha morada morada and passion fruit. We will definitely go back as this place is a keeper.

Very disappointing experience. We ordered pollo a la brasa, ceviche, and chicha morada. The chicken was undercooked, the ceviche lacked flavor, and I found a piece of metal scouring pad in my food, which almost caused me to choke. This was very dangerous. The only good thing was the chicha morada. Due to the food quality and serious safety concerns, I would not recommend this place

First time trying Peruvian food and this place met my expectations of this amazing cuisine! One of my friend's recommended this place to me. She said that the place reminded here of how food was made at her grandma's home back in Peru, with that description in mind, I definitely had to give it a try! Food was really good, portions are big, and the staff is really nice and open to give any recommendations.

This is the place to get anticuchos in Chicago. You might not find a Cau Cau, pachamanca or un pulpito al olivo on the menu but the anticuchos are exactly what you MUST order if you need the extra protein to grow a baby or want to get over the idea that organ meat is just not for you. Don't tell the kids what it is, I promise these brochettes will melt with a dull butter knife. The aji panca marinade tastes exactly the way it should and you'll never want to spend another $95 on a steakhouse filet. True to the original it's served with papa dorada and choclo. The salsas are spot on, I was pleased they used the true ingredients to replicate the taste I was looking for. I've had a stressful week and this meal absolutely brought me back. I'm so happy I finally found a Peruvian spot up to par with what I grew up exposed to in Miami. Muy buena sazon. 1000/10 Yuca con salsa huancaina 10/10 Alfajores were decent Please consider making picarones or Suspiro Limeño!!!!

Worst Experience ever. That's not the best way to approach your customer and to talk to them the way she did. Plus if you have to stay a little bit later for a table that came last minute. You should be thankful for the last minute customers.

Absolutely great! Loved they ask how spicy you want your cebiche or other entrées. Ambiance is amazing, small place feel yet casually fresh and inviting. Easy street parking or parking garage nearby. Service was quick and phenomenal. That causa Rellena was fabulous.

I will begin, I have gone passed this location on several occasions when I am in the area. I tried this location when I ran into a staff/coach from my high school. We met lunch here. It was worth it. Very friendly staff, greeted immediately. Very comfortable seating, the ambiance is very relaxed. Good for groups or dinner for two. The portions are perfect to share, very well served I wasn't disappointed l. I am glad my friend suggested this location. I will be back soon. I do recommend here is you enjoy authentic Peruvian food.

I've been wanting to come here ever since they opened. This location has seen about 3-4 different restaurants in the past 2 years. I don't really care what's here, as long as they serve good food and sticks around for a while. I will admit, their prices are a little bit on the high side, which is why it took me a while to visit them. What I do regret however, is allowing the prices from preventing me to visit this place sooner. I definitely have been missing out. While their items are still a little pricey, it's definitely worth it. The quality is there, and the customer service is great as well. We started off with their leche de Tigre & and a pitcher of their chicha morada. I made sure the leche de tigre came spicy as well, but then I forgot, Mexico is the only Latin American country that actually serves spicy food. The rest, while the flavor is most definitely there, the spice level well never match Mexicos, and that includes Peru as well haha. The leche de Tigre was delicious though. It's basically the citrus marinade used to cook shrimp in ceviche. It was very sour, but I couldn't get enough of it. I would definitely order this again. My wife ordered their Arroz con Pollo. It was served with rice cooked in cilantro sauce. The the rice was delicious and had a hint of citrus as well. The chicken was cooked perfectly and was served with Papa a la Huancaina. I ordered their Lomo Saltado. This is the dish that earned them their 5 stars. You get beef tenderloin sautéed with onions, tomatoes, fries and a side of white rice. The fries are mixed in the dish, but the beef tenderloin strips were very tender, and so flavorful. The dish itself was also very filling. I would probably blame the fries for that though. They also offered us Aji Amarillo sauce which was quite flavorful as well. I dipped the fries in it and even poured some over the dish. Overall a very delicious meal. I wouldn't hesitate returning.

Another one of my HIDDEN GEMS! As a Peruvian I am willing to say this is the best Peruvian restaurant in Chicago. Food is authentic and delicious! Excellent service and prices are very fair for the generous serving sizes. There's meter parking in the street. I definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone! Lomo saltado is juicy and their ceviche is also amazing!

I went to have breakfast to Avenida Peru with my husband today! It was so delicious, for a lil time I thought I was in my country,Peru . I want to recommend to everyone to try this food by breakfast time, they have only on weekends. We enjoyed it and I am pretty sure I will come back

The food is very good and the portions are big. Regarding tipping, I do not agree with them adding the tip to your bill no matter how many are in your party. Depending on the number of people, they start by adding 15%, and then go to 20% if your party is bigger. Even if your part is only one, expect to see the tip added to your bill.

Nice cozy atmosphere, friendly fast service, and a menu that has all the Peruvian classics. I ordered the Lomo Saltado and it was the BOMB!! Meat was tender and delicious... sauce was spectacular with the perfect amount of fries to soak it up... rice was cooked and seasoned perfectly. This is a pretty traditional dish and they nailed it. Look forward to trying more of the menu.

Si eres peruano y extrañas un bueno plato casero, no puedes fallar con viniendo aquí. Yo he traído amigos, familia, hasta enemigos aquí y a todos les ha gustado. La visita más reciente traje a mi tío directo de Lima y se quedó callado la mayoría de la cena porque le gusto su plato tanto. Aunque es un poco lejos de donde vivo, me esfuerzo pasar cuando puedo y siendo BYOB siempre va la pena. Las porciones son buenas, si piensas ir con un grupo grande llama antes de ir. Algunas veces sus horas varían entonces averiguar bien antes de ir.

Best Peruvian restaurant in the whole state! It's a cozy and small place. Fast service and just delicious. You can actually test the quality of the ingredients. Staff is friendly and polite. If you really want to try authentic Peruvian food , this is the right place!

Saw this restaurant since the Central Gyros restaurant that we wanted to go to is closed Tuesday and this is place was open and I am glad that we went. Delicious food, small restaurant with very good ambiance. Good place for a date night.

NOT kid friendly. We wanted to enjoy a lunch here since we've heard lots of good things about this place but felt very unwelcome. There were two tables "reserved" and the waitress made us move towards the door so that people can run/bump into my child's stroller. I wouldn't of been upset if she would've told us "hey this reservation is for an hour from now " instead just making us move. For such a small place I don't think reservations should be a thing.

Me encantó la comida, alguna más que otra, pero me sentí como si estuviera en un restaurante en Peru, la atención fue rápida y muy buen servicio, mi familia estuvo muy feliz.

1) Best ceviche I've had in the USA. They make real leche de tigre. They also serve it with seaweed garnish. God I miss that... 2) Lomo saltado is also good. Beef is very soft. Sometimes the sauce is a bit strong, but it is no doubt delicious. I hate that it stereotypes Peruvian food by virtue of it's dominance, but I still get it almost every visit. 3) They also serve breakfast on the weekends. The tamales made me nostalgic for Lima. I have not found them in the USA before. It's a bit far from me or I would go more. I really love this restaurant. I can't even branch out and try their other dishes because I can't not get ceviche. It's too good.

Finally we found a great Peruvian restaurant in our neighborhood!! And today was the first time enjoying their food. Very attentive and friendly service, my husband enjoyed a "jalea mixta" super yummy, and I enjoyed "arroz con mariscos" very served and tasty. The toasted canchita and Chicha Morada was delicious! We definitely recommend this place. Thank you Avenida Perú Team we wish you the best!

This spot was recommended by a Peruvian friend. I'm glad I took his advice. The food was great. We ordered 2 Lomo saltados and shrimp ceviche as the appetizer. The steak was tender and the portions were really big. We could've definitely shared 1. The ceviche was fresh. Perfect balance of flavors. The leche de tigre was fucking glorious! I'll be coming back soon. :)

I found this gem by accident. The inside is so thoughtfully decorated. I was craving ceviche and my fiance and I said let's try it. The Leche de Tigre is a MUST. The chicken Cilantro soup is soul warming and it was the perfect fix as I'm getting over a cold. They catered to my gluten issue and Glenda our server was so sweet and genuine. My fiance loved his fish dish their fried calamari is AMAZING! SO FRESH! Thank you Avenida you have yourself some regulars! I cannot wait to try the lamb!

Very welcoming, delicious food with a big portion. I got the Tallarín Verde Con Bistek. So good, I saved some for later.

First time here and I am loving this place. There isn't much Peruvian place I know and my boyfriend love Peruvian food. He was excited to come here and try out the dishes. We order two appetizer and two entree. The food come out with good presentation. The employee is very welcoming. The food is well seasoned. Would come back here again and recommend friend and family members to come here. The menu isn't large but have good food choices for you to choose. Across from the restaurant there is a free parking lot where you can park.

If I could give it 0 stars I would. Really bad customer service. We are visiting Chicago and decided based on the good reviews to stop by this place to eat Peruvian food. When I open the door and ask where my husband could park the lady replies with the worse attitude to close the door because it was cold. We sit she tossed the menus on the table and forgot about us. We weren't asked if we wanted something to drink... she started sweeping the floor you can sense people's vibes and she made us feel very uncomfortable being there. I ended up leaving. I'm leaving tomorrow and i was leaving with a good experience people in Chicago are very nice and welcoming. I regret coming to thi place I really don't know where they get their 4.5 stars and I'm sorry for the owners but this lady is going to make you loose a lot of business. Si pudiera darle 0 estrellas se las daba. Estamos de paseo por Chicago y decidimos venir a este lugar a comer comida peruana. Desde que entramos una mujer con pésima actitud, me acerco a preguntar donde podemos estacionarnos y me responde "cierra la puerta porque hace frío" groserísima. Nos sentamos, llevamos un buen rato sentados no nos ofrecieron nada de tomar nos pone el menú en la mesa y se pone a barrer el piso. Uno siente la vibra y la actitud de esa mujer hizo que me diera media vuelta y me fuera. Me iba con una buena experiencia de la gente en Chicago hasta hoy. Definitivamente que decepción y mas que esta señora atienda un restaurant de 4.5 estrellas. Siento mucho por los dueños pero con ese servicio van a perder todo su rating.

We ordered from here for New Years and the food was top notch! Great service and excellent flavors. We had the lomo saltado con tallarines ala huncaina, seco, ocopo arequipeña, and alfajores. All were excellent! I highly recommend their food. This Peruvian approves! As with all the other restaurants, they are carry-out only.

Ayer estuve alrededor de las 5:30 pm, yo consumi leche de tigre y chupe de camarones. Por la noche estuve con diarrea como agua y vomitando los camarones, me la pase toda la noche en el bano y sintiendome fatal. Tengan cuidado en pedir camarones los cuales pienso estan pasados y la leche de tigre demasiado acida no parece que usaran limon. No lo recomiendo pues los alimentos no son de buena calidad. Vivo en Burbank illinois y maneje una hora para enfermarme y pasarlo muy mal toda la noche.

Stopped in for lunch and literally had no clue what to order. Waitress was very pleasant and informative. We were very happy with the ceviche and the lomo saltado. Will definitely return.

I was looking for a local Peruvian place and stumbled upon Avenida Peru. We decided to check it out and it did not disappoint. Our server was very friendly and helped with our selections. My husband had LOMO SALTADO with hand-cut crispy fries along with beef tenderloin slices, peppers, tomatoes, and onions in a luscious dark gravy. I tried the recommended PESCADO A LO MACHO which had a crispy fried fillet topped with assorted seafood (calamari, octopus, shrimp and mussels) cooked in a divine creamy sauce. Both dishes were delicious! It's a family run business and the passion in the industry shows! Carlos and his wife Glenda are hard working and deliver luscious meals, check them out for a real treat, we will be back soon!

I wanted to kiss the chef, but I''d like to come back to eat his food so I figured I'll wait until we get to know each other a little better before I lay one on him. His magic seduced my taste buds, he had me at ceviche. Food was amazing people, go eat there.

Our friends gave a great review so now so do we... we really enjoyed ourselves! The food was amazing! We literally (almost) ordered everything on the menu and nothing disappointed! The service was great, the restaurant was cute, clean and the food was fire! The restaurant is BYOB which is great because it makes great food affordable. The chef & his family have a great humbling story who was a waiter and lost his job due to covid and they decided to bet on themselves and open up their own business. Great to support local small businesses, who serve great food... if you're open to trying new cultures and flavorful food this is it... Very authentic to true Peruvian cuisine.

Not what expected! Lomo saltado was dry no seasoning rice was soggy, the dish in general had no flavor! The Jalea was pricy $18 for a small portion of fried seafood and no flavor either. Salsa criolla (goes on top or side of jalea) consist of Raw Onions cut julian style with some lemon juice and diced tomatoe and some diced cilantro was completely different of what i got. I recieved some sort of ceviche without the fish and mote ? mote (white hominy) never goes in salsa criolla ! As a peruvian myself i expected to be great and it was just money down the drain this is not the best of peruvian food. Its just so sad becuase we as peruvian have such a flavorful of dishes . I do not recommend.

Wonderful experience. We had ceviche and pasta with beef which was delicious. And it was all washed down by one of the best pisco sours we've ever had. The restaurant is still waiting for it's liquor license at this writing, but if you bring your own bottle of pisco you will end up with a carafe of delicious sours. We are looking forward to returning, and hope to try their weekend brunch. Chris

This place was amazing!! We had a little trouble finding parking and when we got in our server already setup a table for 3 because she saw us outside. All of the food was incredible and the service was top notch! 10/10 would recommend

With Ayi Ayi Picante, Machu Pichu and Tulum closed, I didn't think there'd be another Peruvian restaurant worth the visit until now! Cevich on point and the Lomo Salteado Just pay them a visits and you won't be disappointed or leave hungry! For dessert ask for their arroz con leche!!!

Doesn't taste like Peruvian food at all :(. El lugar es pequeño, cozy, y la comida tiene buena presentación. Pero lamentablemente no sabe para nada a comida peruana, el sabor no estaba ahí y la comida no estaba buena :(. My friend and I ordered leche de tigre, ají de gallina and arroz con mariscos, and the flavor was just not there- it was wrong . Their huancaína sauce was pretty close to what one expects tho.

The chef Carlo is a stand up guy, who also happens to make the best ceviche I have ever had. Cannot recommend this place enough along. The rest of menu is great as well. Anyone I take here, asks to come back when they visit again.

I can't believe we had this restaurant so close to home. I was looking for a Peruvian food stumbled upon Avenida Peru. So, we decided to go and did not disappoint. For starters we had "papa Huancaina" that it was great. I had the "Lomo en jugo", beef was very soft and my husband enjoyed the "arroz con mariscos". For dessert we enjoyed the alfajores it was delicious! We definitely be back with our kids and of course we recommend this place. Thank you for a great service!

I heard about this restaurant a few weeks ago, and I didn't have the opportunity until now. I want to review the 2 dishes that I considered were an A+... the ceviche de corvina and the jalea were exceptional. I ll try to go back for the weekend breakfast. Definitely a place to visit. The service is ok... a very convenient parking in front of the restaurant...

Ordered for pick up three dishes: lomo saltado, arroz con pollo and seco. The arroz con pollo has too much garlic and was paler than what we are used to. The lomo wasn't as saucy and maybe they used too much soy sauce which made the sauce a bit too much. I think it's a good option for the neighborhood but just needs to refine a few things with the meals. Also, I don't think my lomo was worth the $17 or $18 for the portion I received.

My boyfriend and I LOVE this place! Their service is amazing and the food is phenomenal! We bring all our visitors from Cincinnati and Denver and they always want to come back when they visit. If you're looking to try something new and Peruvian food is on your list definitely come here!!

Not too good arroz con mariscos was very muchi, we were 5ppl and food was not like the first time we were there, The server was slow it took about 6 minutes to acknowledge our presence finally she took the apptz. order and dinner order, she has lack of carisma with customer, actually was an order taker than a server, she never asked how was dinner, but the real bad thing was when she drop the bill, the 20% percent gratuity was included and not from the subtotal she did with taxes included, I do not know the reason of adding gratuity when there was no notice posted in the menu or restaurant saying so, and she never mentioned anything about, but when I paid with a credit card still in the voucher were asking for more tip, I understand when is a party of 6ppl gratutity is added but not including taxes, but adding to a party of 5ppl without mentioning is not honest and the service was not worth it , so please look at your bill, and I hope they report the tips to the IRS and pay taxes, I am peruvian living in the states more than 50 years and go to differnt restaurants and cuisines but this is not fair with the customers adding tips, was our last visit to this place....

If you want to eat Peruvian food DON'T COME HERE. Not only is the food dry and tasteless but this is a terrible representation of Peruvian cuisines the owners should be ashamed of themselves for calling this "Peruvian cuisine"

Visited for the first time for lunch. Two of us shared papa a la huancaina and ceviche that were very good, seafood rice that was exceptional, and a pitcher of maracuya juice. Servings were more than we could eat. Service was pretty good and completely bilingual. Enjoyed it very very much, we will be back.

I wish I could give a better review, but I cannot say I enjoyed my meal at all. Didn't taste authentic at all. The Aji de Gallina sauce was too thick and garlicky. The papa a la huancaina tasted like they used the same sauce. Very disappointed. My son said he enjoyed the Arroz con Mariscos. Will not order here again.

1st time going and will definitely return! Chef/owner & wife & staff, were super nice. The group of 4 of us all got different plates and shared...soo good! The ceviche as an appetizer was so delicious that we ordered a 2nd plate. And it's BYOB!
