Quaint classic American deli! Well priced, large, delicious sandwiches served out of a picturesque historic deli. Service was fast and staff was polite. Will be back!

I have been going to this place for years. The food quality and service have not been disappointing once. The owners are very understanding and attentive to each and every order no matter how long the line might be. I am currently a freshman in college. During high school, starting from sophomore year, I went here for sandwiches and coffees. It has since then become a nostalgic place for my friends and I with the sheer number of times we have gone here. The owners also recognize us 🥲. My go-to's: - caprese (no panini with OR w/o prosciutto) - minuteman - midnight ride - chicken noodle soup - an iced latte The atmosphere is not 5 stars only because when it is busy, which is most of the time, it can get a bit crowded given the deli's size and furnishings. The vibe itself is cozy and not claustrophobic, but of course, if there's 5 people in line + others sitting at the limited # of tables, it won't exactly be great. Overall, it is a great place. - great tasting food - a variety of sandwiches, drinks, & more - fantastic service The pricing can be lower for sure, but given inflation and covid, it's understandable.

Google
They have yummy sandwiches, salads, and pickles. They're always very nice, customer oriented, and quick. They have a few tables and they're across from a park where you can sit and eat. It's run by a very friendly immigrant family.

Google
This is a wonderful Deli on Massachusetts Avenue in Lexington, Massachusetts. They make wonderful delicious sandwiches at this cute little place. Very conveniently located on Massachusetts Avenue in down Lexington Center. Located amongst all of the places one busy professional needs to run errands to at lunch, The Avenue Delis is a great place to pickup a quick sandwich on the go.

Google
I had a delicious Reuben and a yummy iced coffee. The service was quick and the atmosphere was relaxing. The owners are wonderful and inviting. My new go-to for lunch and to take home some fresh Boars Head deli meat.

Rebekah H

Google
Super fast and affordable! Must try if you are in town. Go for Reuben if you like beef and warm sandwiches.❤️

Dan C

Google
Awesome gluten-free NY style “Sloppy Joe” (roast beef, turkey, Swiss, coleslaw, and Russian dressing). Better than many non-Gluten free I’ve had. The photo does no justice for the sandwich!

Emily Smith

Google
Gluten free bread! I got the “midnight ride,” it was perfectly toasted and just the quick lunch we needed while we waited for the bus out of Lexington. Service was quick and easy. Plus, the sandwiches are wrapped up with care with a couple layers so it made transport very easy. My husband got the “minuteman” sub and he says it was good too!

Bea T.

Yelp
It's fine for deli sandwiches. There's only two people working and it took quite some time for my sandwich. Sandwiches were OK and to the point but nothing special. It seems to be a very practical spot for tourists. The Reuben sandwich is good and chicken sandwich was ok.

Sanyogita R.

Yelp
This place is overpriced for no reason. I have been to this place twice. Their food is barely edible and they charge ridiculous price for that. When I ordered an egg salad(not sandwich, just salad), it had no herbs, no seasoning and they charged $8.75 for that. For a half sandwich, they literally just stacked 3 things together without any condiments, any sauce and charged $5 for that. When we visited the place, it was not crowded at all, so I don't see the reason for such bad food except for the fact that it is their regular mode of working.

James P.

Yelp
Nice local sandwich shop! Tons of options here so difficult to decide. I got the Caprese panini sandwich. Fresh mozzarella, tomato, basil and balsamic vinegar. Nice and toasty. Cheese is perfectly melted. Bread is super fresh. Only $7.75! Tip: beautiful park right across the street to eat in. Would recommend for anyone working in the Lexington area.

Andres D.

Yelp
Great little deli with tons of options. Mostly your standard feo expectations but also a number of specials with fun names recognizing the local history. They also have a lot of smoothie options and the smoothie I had (strawberry) was very good. The size of my chicken salad sandwich was pretty small but it was good quality and a reasonable price so I left happy.

Roy S.

Yelp
Had a hankering for some deli and we came across this place in the center of Lexington. Friendly staff, quick service, and the prices are far lower then I expected. The Italian is good and so is the Napoli. The Buffalo chicken was disappointing because it didn't have any Buffalo sauce and seemed to use deli meat instead of a chicken breast or something equivalent. To me the star is the Pastrami! Piled high and very delicious. I will get this again on my next visit!

Pete F.

Yelp
Turkey club dry and basic. Not worth it. And just to try and post this I have to write more then it's worth.

Tracey M.

Yelp
Stopped for a pastrami sandwich on marble rye. It was fresh and hot. The bread was extremely fresh and delicious. These folks are going a great job!

Sara B.

Yelp
Great sandwich options! I work nearby and normally would just visit Panera but since it's permanently closed I thought I'd try this deli a little further down the street. I got a basic caprese but it was so good! Delicious vinaigrette, a good amount of basil, and lovely soft bread. It's a small deli but they were quick and in my opinion unusually kind (repeated the order to double check it was right, a lot of "thank you's" and pleasant tone of voice). Maybe this is a weird thing to write in a review but I feel like if you run into a deli during the lunch rush you feel a little rushed yourself and this was just a really nice experience. I would like to try some of their other food in the future and see if it's as good as the sandwich I had today. Definitely won a new customer!

Addie M.

Yelp
Second update: they messaged me again to remind me of the gift card and now they have blocked me from responding. I attached a photo. This is crazy! Update: thanks to the owner for reaching out. This is my response to her message. She offered 25$ gift card and said she didn't realize i was pregnant.: Just to clarify, I told you i was pregnant. I was massive and showing. I told you it was an emergency and you still said no. I'm moving into a new home and Lexington is too far. Thank you for your offer. Maybe you can buy the next person in the store a sandwich and pay it forward. This establishment is now having people harass my inbox. Is Vera a customer, neighbor or associate of yours? Tell this person to leave me alone. I've reported the account to yelp and blocked her. It's absurd that someone is trolling my reviews and t

Yelp
A local small business! Great food and costumer service!! I had a Grilled Chicken Caesar wrap... just enough of dressing!

Yelp
Stumbled upon the Avenue Deli when a friend and I were walking my dog in downtown Lexington. We were ready for a mid-afternoon lunch an the advertisement of gluten free sandwich bread on the window front caught our attention so we decided to try a 1/2 sandwich and cup of chili each. Since we had the dog and it was a beautiful day, she went in to order while I waited outside with the dog. I expected a longer wait and before I knew it (less than 10 minutes), she walked out with our lunches in a brown bag. We found a nice stone bench not far from the deli in the shade. She ordered the Napoli and I, the Caprese with prosciutto both on the gluten free oatmeal bread. Both sandwiches were cut in half on two whole pieces of GF bread each ... so what they considered as a 1/2 sandwiches were actually whole sandwiches. Both generously filled with meat, Buffalo mozzarella (on mine) and veggies (mostly on hers). The bread was surprisingly placed on a panini griddle on both sandwiches ...which was a very nice touch. The bread was rich in flavor and not dry like dust like most GF breads. The sandwiches were definitely a 5; however, the chili fell short of expectations. We don't think it was homemade, rather purchased in bulk at a restaurant supply store. We would definitely consider stopping in again for the sandwiches but would skip the soup. They also offer smoothies which seemed like a popular item and looked pretty refreshing and tasty. Sandwiches were very fairly priced!

Abby L.

Yelp
cute little store! food isn't anything special but staff is so great that i can't help but call it a 4 star.

gianna C.

Yelp
Actually between a 2 & 3 ordered a greek salad which had a scant tbs. of feta. Should have gotten a garden salad. Will not get another one here...

Nicki C.

Yelp
Wide variety of made to order sandwiches, salads and soups. Quick service too with a smile. When in the area I would not hesitate to come here for a deli sandwich.

Fred M.

Yelp
First time. I'm vegan. Not many vegan choices, perhaps one of the salads. Then I noticed a vegetable sandwich. He asked what vegetables I wanted and I told him that I like them all. The nice man was making it on a whole wheat wrap. I asked if they had any hummus to put on , and he said yes. And then he asked if I want some avocado and I said yes. It was a yummy sandwich much better than I expected for a vegetable sandwich. And it was heavy, so he really pack a lot of food into the wrap. My brother like his sandwich a lot too. I would like to go back and get another.

Jimmy K.

Yelp
I ordered a NY style pastrami sandwich and was really disappointed. It was really small but still priced like I was in New York City. It tasted decent but the NY title has to go on this one!

Trav M.

Yelp
Just happened to walk by this shop in Phil mode trying a sandwich. The menu has another classic New York style deli items plus a lot of original sandwiches. The struggle between choosing the Caprese or something a little different - A liverwurst sandwich on marble rye bread. After chatting with the owners I decided to give the liverwurst a try and boy oh boy am I glad! I know that liverwurst is not everyone's favorite but I do enjoy it once in a while (maybe it is an acquired taste?). Anyway the sandwich was awesome everything tasted completely fresh and was just right. Ditto for the iced coffee which was super fresh and tasty. I Will definitely make the effort to stop by the shop anytime I'm in the area and mood for a terrific sandwich1

Amanda M.

Yelp
Located in downtown Lexington, plenty of street parking. I got the Italian with everything on it and a side of macaroni salad - meat was really fresh and delicious. I also got an iced coffee, their coffee is strong and good! Not very many options for seating so we took it to go, I'd definitely go back!

Erica V.

Yelp
I got the Rachel and it was very good flavor!! I do wish the sandwich had a little more meat in it. It did seem a little small. But nonetheless, very good.

Margot B.

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches, wraps, and soup - Overall: friendly staff, gluten-free options, convenient location, and fast service I had turkey on gluten-free bread - turkey was in abundance and tasted like it was fresh sliced, all the toppings were crisp and fresh. Tons of sauce options also. Friend had thanksgiving sandwich- Huge! Very tasty, fresh stuffing and yummy cranberry sauce, she loved it! Veggie soup was very flavorful and hot with huge chunks of vegetables and seasonings. Prices were very reasonable for the sizes of the sandwiches- fresh apples and cookies a MAJOR plus for my friend and I. Will return ASAP!

pete k.

Yelp
Its always exciting for me to try a new deli - especially one with a good reputation. Its a small shop with no frills - sandwiches, chips, some bread and some beverages - all that a good deli needs. The small counter with stools to eat at is a great touch. Service was great - speedy and very friendly. The sandwiches are very hefty, and are very reasonably priced. I got the ' NY Double Decker' with hopes that it'd be a NJ style Sloppy Joe.. and it was pretty close. Great size, good meats and toppings.. even had rye bread. Sadly, the rye is what dinged that 5th star here. Opening the sandwich you can see impressions in the rye - not a bad thing, since yeah, you make sammiches with your hands. Its normal. But.. not for rye bread. Rye should not be squishy.. and it had all the consistency of a sponge. Major bummer.. but fortunately everything else shined here, and Avenue Deli pulls the 4 stars easily.

Yelp
Nice people, clean space, yummy sandwiches! Perfect place for a quick lunch. Right near the battle green so perfect for grabbing food for a picnic. Their store brand orange soda was a nice addition.

Yelp
My company moved to Lexington Center late last year and Avenue Deli is one of my goto places for lunch at least once a week. Why, you might ask, especially since my office is right next door to Panera, which is so convenient? It's because the food is so dang good! I mean, where else can you practically any kind of deli sandwich you can think of? The selection is amazing. The meats are really tasty and every sandwich is made with a smile. My favorite is the Paul Revere, which consists of deluxe roast beef, BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomato, all on a yummy onion roll. On top of that, they even make (yes, freshly made) one of my favorite drinks, passion fruit iced tea. One time I went and they had run out of iced tea, and the owner brewed some tea right then and there instead of just saying that they were out. That's quality service right there. If you're in Lexington Center, and you're in for a nice deli sandwich, you can't go wrong by stopping in here. I know I'll be back, many times over.

Christi S.

Yelp
Oh my. Liverwurst. So fresh and yummy. Plenty of drink options. Good prices. Good people.

Steven L.

Yelp
The owners of this family-run hole in the wall are absolute sweethearts! The ingredients are always fresh and the prices are good.

Nancy R.

Yelp
Delish!!! Great Gluten Free bread allows me to enjoy most any sandwich they make!! Staff remembers you and your order!! And the new coffee machine!!!! Best coffee in Lexington center!

Mark M.

Yelp
Great little sandwich shop. Had the midnight ride and it was great! Only complaint is there aren't many places to sit and eat in the shop itself but you could easily get a sandwich and walk a little ways to the battle green and eat it picnic style. Highly recommend this place!

Duyen N.

Yelp
I absolutely love their caramel ice coffee and green tea avocado smoothie! Their Thanksgiving turkey wrap which has turkey breast, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mayo, lettuce and tomato was light and flavorful. It can get busy here especially on Sundays so it's recommended that you go here before or after lunch time. Also, there isn't really any indoor seating since it's a small deli but on nice days, you can grab here and find a place to sit outside. Definitely a spot worth visiting if you've never been.

Amy N.

Yelp
I love this place!!! Good food good service, especially her smoothies are awesome! Thanks yelp for bringing me here and I will definitely come back.

Hannah M.

Yelp
Bought a new bike and took it for a spin. Got hungry as we approached Lexington on the bike path, but weren't dressed for a nice sit-down meal. Happened upon 1806 Ave Deli and were not disappointed. Good solid sandwiches, attentive and good customer service, and people watching window bar seating. Probably not a destination for a trip, but a definite solid stop if you are in Lexington and hungry. Would be a great stop prior to a picnic!

Jack D.

Yelp
Stopped by for a late lunch. I have driven by hundreds of times. Ordered the Reuben sandwich on rye. One of the best sandwiches I have ever had. Perfect mix of the ingredients and everything was fresh. I admit I was really hungry and it's just a sandwich but when I saw the review by the preggo lady, I had to comment. No public bathroom; so what? Plan ahead or go to Starbucks.

Diana L.

Yelp
I feel terrible about the review I am about to write, but I hope the owners will read my feedback and make changes or else their business will not last. On a positive note they serve boars head meat and cheeses which is fantastic, unfortunately they place that fantastic meat between TERRIBLE bread (not deli standard). I got a "baguette" my husband had "onion kaiser roll" my dad and mom had wonder bread. Just awful! This is clearly a family type run business and the husbands job is to make the sandwich while the wife rings up the customers. A backlog quickly happened since she did not help him prepare sandwiches. Cashier needs to multiuser task, she can't just let a line form while waiting to collect money. Another major complaint was the size of the sandwich....very small amount of meat and no toppings. My dad had to stop the man mid way making his a sandwich to ask for mustard since he never asked what we wanted on the sandwich. Seating is extremely limited. Only 4 seats in the whole place we had to take my sandwiches home to eat. To sum it up, this place has good meat. Otherwise there is no redeeming quality. The people were courteous and very nice so I hope they make these necessary changes because it won't survive as is.

Julie S.

Yelp
Holy deliciousness, Batman. My husband and I ate here after a bike ride and I was starving. Avenue Deli did not disappoint. I had some sort of roast beef sandwich on an onion roll. The roast beef was perfectly rare, and it came with a pickle. Not much more you can ask for, except for BBQ sauce. And yes, that was there too. If it's nice out, eat in the park across the street. Great for people watching.

Meghan H.

Yelp
Came here with my co-workers for lunch. (I generally take a later lunch, 1-2p). Parking was easy enough with the public lot around the corner. Service was quick, and pleasant. I honestly don't remember what I ordered for a sandwich, except that I liked it. The smoothie was good too- lots of sugar, but real ingredients... I will definitely go back for lunch sometime. Probably update with some pictures to give them props, because they're really great.

Dale C.

Yelp
The second time I've visited in one weekend. They have a great selection of deli meats, cheeses, and breads. They also accommodate common diets such as vegetarian and gluten-intolerant diets. They have their own custom sodas. Lastly, their shakes ate meticulously crafted. The owner won't serve any new items if they don't meet her standards. I trust their palates. The green tea-avocado shake was well balanced in flavor and sweetness.l; plus, they're always made fresh! Their Vietnamese-style ice coffee is to die for as well. Make sure you stay in touch for their variety of fruit teas as well. This deli is a local favorite and you should definitely check it out.

Carol W.

Yelp
I came here again mainly because I was short on time and needed something quick near the library. This place doesn't disappoint. The chicken salad sandwich and vegetables were all very fresh. The portion generous. I wish they had a better drink selection though. The pickle was just okay. Next time, I'll buy one of the pickles sitting in the jars. I also want to try their signature sandwiches like the Midnight Run and Minutemen. I'll do it next time, when I have more time to savor the experience. Overall, a very solid sandwich shop.

Jessica C.

Yelp
LOVE this place!! Great service and fantastic authentic subs!! One of my favorite lunch spots in the area for sure-- wish I had a picture to post but typically I'm too busy scarfing it down and my sandwich is gone in about 3 minutes

Kristen J.

Yelp
Wow! That sandwich I had there was awesome. I ordered a cracked pepper black turkey sandwich on white bread. Best part is you get Boars Head deli meat! No preservatives AND Gluten free (and they have gluten free bread) You had your standard choice of toppings (mayo, etc) I had a tomato and white cheddar on mine with mayo. The line moved fast, the sandwich was a good size and decently priced at around $8 with tax. Also came with a huge pickle spear (too bad I am not a fan of pickles!) Anyway, highly recommended for lunch in downtown Lexington!

Luke R.

Yelp
Sandwiches are great. They use Boar's Head meat (and tons of it). If you're in the mood for more classic-style deli sandwiches in Lexington (as opposed to Via Lago, Great Harvest, etc.), this is definitely the place to go. There's no real indoor seating to speak of (except for a hightop at the window). On nice days there are plenty of outdoor areas in Lexington Center to eat. Otherwise, you can bring the sandwich into one of the many coffee shops (Peets, RideStudio, Starbucks).

A S.

Yelp
I think I chose poorly. I ordered the Thankgiving Turkey Sub - Turkey, Stuffing, Cranberry Sauce, mayo, lettuce & tomato - that's everything that comes with it and I just ordered it as is. I've had this sub lots of other places and it's one of my favorites... but plain & simple - lettuce & tomato have no need to be on this sandwich... (note to self for future ordering). The stuffing was unfortunately a bit watered down (I noticed through an open door big boxes of Pepperidge Farm Instant Stuffing) and it was lacking flavor/texture. Secondly, they didn't put enough cranberry sauce on and so sometimes I was just getting bites of turkey, lettuce & tomato - meh. My husband got a hot pastrami on rye - big portion and it looked good. I also love the half-sour pickle spear you get with your sandwich - yummy yum yum. We'll go back in we're in the area and I'll try a different sandwich next time.

Jeff D.

Yelp
Pretty nice deli and a good value. Prices are a little expensive but the sandwiches are a meal and a half. I usually get the Reuben or Rachel but the spicy Italian (whose name eludes me) is also very tasty. Salads are cheap but if you get a meat topping it's going to be cold cuts. Just be forewarned. They also have a very quick turnover. You can be in-and-out at their busiest time in about 10 minutes. That's no joke when you're on lunch break.

William F.

Yelp
Pretty standard small town deli. Boar's Head meats and a variety of the standard sandwich options. Service is very fast and the prices are low. I can't see a reason to go out of your way to come here, but its pretty good if you happen to be in Lexington or live here.

Robyn T.

Yelp
Wow this place was good. Thank you Yelpers for leading me here! We went here for lunch after church on a rainy, crummy day. Being new to the area, I am relying on Yelp for every place we try. They have a huge selection of sandwiches, of which are Boar's Head meat. Yum. I ordered the Paul Revere and my hubs ordered the Midnight Ride. Both were delicious! Plus they served us about 2 minutes after we ordered which was a huge bonus. The meat was incredibly tasty and tender, the veggies were fresh, and the bread was super soft. And it's very reasonably priced! We both enjoyed our sandwiches and said it completely hit the spot. My one suggestion is more seating! I'm not sure how to make that happen but for those who don't live in Lexington, but want to experience the goodness right there in the deli, we'd love a place to park for a bit.

Liz E.

Yelp
Cute little place- wish I lived close to it. I had the chicken caesar wrap- it was HUGE. They have whole wheat wraps, hurray! It was a good sandwich- not my favorite CCW ever, but good. I picked up a delicious loaf of cranberry-walnut bread for 99 CENTS. Awesome. When I'm back in the neighborhood I'll definitely go back to try something else. They have the friendliest staff I've encountered in a long time. Even though they were insanely busy, they were very attentive to me and really quite nice.

Todd M.

Yelp
A good deli with some pretty good prices and opitions to choose from. Little small inside with not much seating is the only downfall. But across the street is Lexington Park. So on a nice day can always go sit there and eat. They offer gluten free bread as well. Sandwiches are fresh and the meat is boars head brand.

Jeff D.

Yelp
Nothing special. It's the typical Boars Head deli, similar sandwiches anywhere. I had a bad experience here with a sandwich with red peppers (canned) that seemed spoiled. I was already far away so didn't come back. I would give them another chance perhaps but I was not impressed.

Joe G.

Yelp
A solid, traditional New York style deli. Boars Head products. Nice counter in front along the window;a good place to sit a watch the world go by.

Anna L.

Yelp
Beware the "specials," which are an attempt to unload whatever stale/about to expire stuff they have on hand. I asked the husband if the roast beef was rare. Oh yes, he shows me nicely rare roast beef. That is not what he puts in my $7.50 sandwich however, despite the smiling service. You can't watch them make anything as they are behind the counter, so a little bait and switch, which I discovered after driving back to office. Grey, yucky roast beef that tasted about to go bad. I almost drove back there with it I was so irritated, but who knows what I would have gotten if I'd returned it. So i had to buy another lunch. Really short-sighted on owners' part. I will not be returning.

Kevin T.

Yelp
Next to Nellio's, best sandwich in Lexington! Yes, I compared, and they get a 4 star rating. Drop in and ask them to make you something fresh form the deli.
