Things to Do This Weekend: Eat Musubi at Avenues and Walk the Great Highway - Eater SF

"Avenues, a cafe and surf shop located a few blocks from the beach, opened in 2018 and quickly became a favorite for locals. Known for its loaded avocado toast and Verve Coffee, it offers a variety of musubi options including Spam, salmon, and veggie. The horchata latte is a highlight, creamy and not-too-sweet, priced at $6. It's a perfect starting point for a walk along the Great Highway, which is closed to cars on weekends." - Paolo Bicchieri

Damn, what a gem! Lots of outdoor seating, great for chowing down in the sun. We got breakfast sandwiches and Musubis, all of which were very tasty. The Musubis are also mostly gluten free (with I think 2 flavours being the exception to that!) I had the salmon and tofu Musubis, both of which were delicious — and gluten free!

Google
Breakfast banh mi was DELICIOUS. Fusion flavours, but still has the essence of a traditional banh mi. There was also a great outdoor area to eat and chill with the pup!

i got the breakfast bahn mi with egg, spam, jalapeño and chilli garlic sauce - it was TO DIE FOR. also the matcha latte with espresso. wow: 10/10!

Stopped by this charming coffee shop near Ocean Beach in San Francisco and was thoroughly impressed. The coffee art was a delightful touch, and the flavors were robust—exactly what you need on a foggy city morning. Plus, the Curry Bowl was a heartwarming surprise, so flavorful and comforting. A perfect spot for a casual bite. Definitely a gem in the Avenues!

Nice location and outside sitting area. However I can't quite understand what's up with one of the baristas. When I first visited a few weeks ago, I ordered an oatmilk latte and have been 'suggested' to get single shot instead of double, because according to that one barista, their double it stronger than double and that he/they "can't deal with it". Well, okay. Appreciated the suggestion and got single. But single was too mellow actually; I mean tasted like single. So maybe don't give suggestions if you are the one who is a little peculiar with your coffee choice? And then visited another time a couple weeks later. The same barista attended. I order 2 quad shot oat milk lattes. I had to say "quad shot" 4 times. The other barista got it, and said it back to him from the back of the bar, yet that one couldn't get it. And instead orderer 2 matchas for me. LMAO. I said I did not say matcha. He told me it's my accent and that he's American; doesn't get it. I did not take it as insult. But yeah, I have an accent but hopefully not that heavy to turn 'Quad Shot' into 'Matcha'. Anyway. I said it was not match, it was QUAD SHOT OAT MILK LATTE. And 2! He still did not get it. HAHA! Then the other one came from the back side and thankfully said it again. Then guess what happened? We got 1 latte with oat milk, 1 latte with REGULAR MILK. And both had completely different amounts of coffee. Go figure. I literally saw him bringing a non-plant based milk box. I know the plant based milk brands in the market; that was not a plant based milk box. But did not want to accuse him just because of the shape of the milk box as I haven't seen the label. I noticed it once I had sipped my coffee once I was far away, at the beach level. I was too lazy to go back. Also was a little frustrated that probably I will have to deal with the same thing again. And it will end up being my fault cause I had an accent, haha. I just think maybe this guy can make an effort to remain sober/awake during work hours or something. I was not allergic to regular milk. But this could have been fatal for someone else. Gonna go again this week. I am just curious what's gonna happen this time.

Google
Great little spot in the sunset with incredible and unique food and drinks! Came here with my mom and grandma and they also enjoyed it. We got drip coffee, an horchata cold brew, the breakfast banh mi with spam, and the salmon spam musibi and the tamago and spam musibi. All so delicious, highly recommend!

So good! So fresh! The sandwiches here are to die for! We had avo toast and PB and honey with my 4 year old daughter. The words she used after her first bite: oh my goodness!! :)

Google
The place has nice decor and they offer some merch and random items. The coffee and matcha were disappointing but the spam musubi was good and all of the food looked great. There isn't much space in the place and there are no seats so this place is to grab and go.

Yelp
This is exactly the type of place and vibe you want when you're close to the beach in the Outer Sunset. The staff is friendly and it's typical for them to sell a homemade special item. I tried the breakfast banh mi, iced matcha latte, and spam musubi. Despite being a musubi and spam connoisseur, I'd never tried a spam musubi with egg. And WOW, it was incredible. They have a few spots inside to sit, but you're more likely to find seating out front on their cute patio or nearby / at the beach. Highly recommend this spot!

Yelp
I found this cozy little spot a long time ago called Avenues on Taraval in the Outer Sunset but I never stepped foot inside personally. The wifey usually made the pickup runs for me. But today I decided to finally go myself to grab their Breakfast Banh Mi (I think that's what it's called) and a couple of their musubi options namely the Spam Musubi and the Salmon Musubi. The food here is priced pretty reasonably, and the staff was super friendly. The Breakfast Banh Mi was packed with veggies, pickled goodness, and just hit the spot. The bread was fresh and had that perfect crunch on the outside, I love the generous amount of sesame on top. This was more unique and definitely caught my attention both on the menu and in my hands. The Spam Musubi and Salmon Musubi were great too... solid portions, and the flavor was on point. I opted for the tamago styled egg this time. Forgot to mention that the sauces for each were good pairings as well. Next time, I'm definitely trying the curry add-on for the musubi, which is only $3 more. The place itself is small, with a couple of spots outside to sit and enjoy your meal. Overall, a nice find, and I'll definitely be back for more! Just beware parking can get a bit tight now that there is Galinette, Underdogs, and Andytown near it.

Yelp
Stopped by for late breakfast and really enjoyed the musubi coffee combo. The line was a little long but moved quickly. The inside of the store was super small and there are no seats inside but there are a few seating options right outside. The musubis were in a little hot box by the register so you could just grab them. But the selection was pretty limited compared to what's offered on the menu. Not the best musubi I've ever had but it hit the spot in the moment. The breakfast bahn mi was good! I've never had banh mi with spam and egg which was an interesting and surprisingly tasty combo. Overall I enjoyed my experience and especially loved how close the restaurant is to the beach! Makes it easy to go for a nice beach stroll after.

Yelp
The beverage was not good. I could definitely make this at home and it would taste way better. The girl recommended I tried the pretzel cookie as it's one of her favorites and it was also a miss. Don't think I'll be back for their drinks or pastries, but I am intrigued to try their musubi sandwiches. It's a busy place so maybe I just ordered the wrong things.

Yelp
My 20th stop on the quest to find the perfect Avocado Toast. It's currently a thing in San Francisco. (Sorry bacon, you're so last year.) So the verdict? A solid 5 stars. That means Avenues made it into the top 3, definitely earning a spot on the championship podium. Qualifications: The toast is actually toasted. Great flavor profile. Aesthetically pleasing. Friendly staff. Generous layer of mashed avocado, not blender runny. Topped by pickled radishes & onions, dusting of chili powder. Perfection. Good to know: Avenues is takeout only. No laptop village here. It's a tiny space, order at the counter. There's a 3 person bench inside opposite the counter where you order. The line at 8:30 extended outside the door, but shortened quickly. Being a couple blocks from the ocean it tends to be cold & foggy, so you might want to forgo the parklet. I ate in the car, then enjoyed a long walk on the beach. Will definitely return.

Yelp
Coffee, vegan musubi, and Japanese curry? Sign me up. I need to come back and try more items. Our group wanted a bunch of things and this hit all the categories. I had the tofu musubi and I am kicking myself for not ordering the mushroom one. Delicious and I need to step up my game at home. The SO wanted a croissant and iced coffee so we were able to pick up that as well as Japanese curry and some other bowls. Did not take a picture because I was hungry AF and it was a hand to mouth moment and gone in a flash.

Yelp
Can't go wrong with Avenues' iced lattes! Love that they have house made brown sugar and vanilla syrups and use Verve coffee beans, making the coffee significantly better. Service is relatively quick, and baristas are super friendly. Not pictured here, but the avocado toast and musubis are also delish (love that there vegetarian options for the musubis too)! Not too much indoor seating except for a waiting area for your coffee, but there's a cute parklet for seating.

Yelp
I finally made it back to Avenues after almost 3 years, and I am happy to report that it's just as good (if not better) as it was when I reviewed it back in 2021. Their breakfasts are some of the best in SF; they have simply awesome masubis, especially the spam and tamago egg version with gochujang dip, which does happen to be dairy free (it's hard to find tamago egg that's dairy free!). Their avacado toast is still amazing too, and they have a wonderful selection of coffee drinks as well. I had the horchata cold brew, which is (you guessed it) dairy free with oat milk, it's a super refreshing coffee beverage even on foggier SF days. I wanted to try some of their newer breakfast dishes, but they will have to wait for next time. Service is fast, and they have a bit of seating outside. Worth the 45 minute trip from central SF for sure!

Yelp
TLDR: Awesome grab 'n go style breakfast and lunch place. Healthy choices abound here. Great also for just coffee/lattes/cold brews too.. Friendly service with solid choices to satisfy your tummy or for that kick start in the AM. I N T R O . . To the locals here, the Sunset District on the Western end of SF is also known as "The Avenues". Enter now this cozy little grab n go eatery of the same name.. I love the small town beachside vibe here.. and the food and service make this place a slam dunk whenever I feel the need for a relaxed breakfast. Enjoy your meal on the benches just outside of their store! I N S I D E . . . ..you'll find that familiar reclaimed wood aesthetic embellished with surfboards, surfing magazines and actual surfboard wax for sale. This look may seem played out to some, but here just a block from the beach, it really is appropriate given the locals like me who have made this place a regular morning haunt. To get here, there's a decent amount of perpendicular parking on the block outside, or additional parking around the block. Transit? The Muni's L-Taraval light rail brings you right here. F O O D . . . Offerings here span from imaginative upscale takes on Euro pastries, beautifully executed sandwiches that include Viet Bahn Mi and Italian-inspired Paninis, Salads and much more. Check out the menu photos! They are also well known for their Hawaiian-style Musubis with various breakfast fillings. I'm not much into Spam, and felt like I needed a few greens in my lunch, so I chose to have their Turkey, Bacon and Pesto Club Sandwich instead. That Turkey Club was awesome! Served on sourdough pressed and toasted, it's really a Panini sandwich though the menu makes no mention of that. The sourdough served as the perfect vehicle for the yumminess inside, beginning with a perfect amount of deli turkey, finished with bell peppers, fresh arugula for greens, a touch of onion, a delicious dijon cheese spread and a dash of fresh lemon vinaigrette. I ordered without the bacon to try to make this a reasonably healthier choice. I'll definitely get this again, but maybe substitute chicken breast instead of the turkey just for kicks. I have to say, this was one of my most memorable totally yummy sandwiches in a long time! F O R N E X T T I M E . . . Yep.. I'll be back again for many more visits. Salmon & Egg Musubi next time, or maybe a Korean Glass Noodle Salad and that Horchata Cold Brew I wanna also try.. So many choices..

Yelp
Avenues is the gem of the neighborhood! The matcha lattes are great (I love that they use real matcha powder instead of a concentrate), and the house-made horchata cold brew is the best in the city! The food is almost too good for a coffee shop. I swing by for a musubi multiple times a week, and I recommend trying the Japanese curry. The breakfast banh mi or club sandwiches are also my favorite post-surf lunch! There's casual seating (benches and rocks) in front, and I often run into friends and neighbors hanging out. Avenues is a special spot and definitely worth a visit!

Yelp
Nice little coffee spot located in Outer Sunset. Outdoor seating available. Very friendly staff and quick service. Originally came here to grab a coffee, but NEEDED to try one of their Musubis. 5 different Musubis to choose from, I went with the Baked Tamago Egg & Spam Musubi. YUM! 5/5. Comes with a delicious gochujang sauce. Honestly, I didn't love my coffee, but maybe I chose the wrong item. I ordered a dirty chai latte and boy was it spicy. Would definitely come back for another Musubi, but order a different coffee next time.

Yelp
Ok I have been here twice and this is a very good cafe right few blocks from the beach with a few other sit down restaurants nearby. This is my motivation to keep exercising by the beach because their food items are quite tasty with the crossiant, veggie puff and Spam Musubi are all quite excellent items. I plan to come back again and try everything! LoL well I came back again a week later and tried more healthy items the coconut chia parfait had coconut milk chia pudding with berries and house made granola which was something I was not used to, so I really didn't care for this one; however, the Overnight oats was quite tasty! It had oats, chia, cinnamon mixed with whole milk with honey, banana and their homemade granola. That veggie puff is quite unique and I got another one. Yummy as it is hard to describe,m for its flavorful and moist. This a very good and quick pick up cafe for things to go. Only two people were running this place on Saturday. And this time the cafe was busy with customers. I like this place and I can see why it is so popular with locals. Good quality food and drinks.

Yelp
Surprised with the quality of their sandwich and matcha was pretty good too. This cafe is close by to my sister's old apartment and we took a break for lunch and headed to the beach to enjoy the food. Definitely not an authentic chicken banh mi but it was packed well with a variety of ingredients that left me satisfied. We tried the salmon musubi and it came with egg which was nice. Only drawback is that they're pretty slow and we went when it wasn't busy. Overall pretty good.

Yelp
Yelpers, you know those moments when you realize you need to write a review so you don't forget how much you love a place? My partner and I are absolutely obsessed with exploring cafes in San Francisco. We chose this cafe because it was relatively close to our home church--TFH SF. We were pleasantly surprised by this one, and it has easily become one of our favorite places to grab a coffee and a quick bite. The spam musubis are top-tier. The coffee is great. The service is quick. There is no indoor seating; however, the outdoor patio is cute with plenty of space to enjoy your bite. I couldn't recommend this place enough!
google avatar

Larry L.

Yelp
Went in around noon time for a Horchata cold brew, and it's always delicious. While checking out the menu for the musubi, was offered kimchi soup also. Did come back around 2:30 and was able to grab one of the last cups and a muffin. Was not disappointed and it tasted amazing. Just a few blocks from the beach so was able to hang out and get some sun. Coffee great Musubi fantastic Kimchi soup tasty Muffin yummy
google avatar

Emily S.

Yelp
Not that many people in there, which was nice. The staff was nice. I ordered 2 different musubi, the baked tamago and kimchi and egg musubi. Was not expecting to pay $6.00 each for the size I got. I thought the musubi would be a bit bigger... quite disappointed. No sauce in them but they have sauce on the side, which didn't really taste well... there was no sauce in the tamago musubi.. kimchi in the kimchi musubi wasn't flavorful and barely any in there. Couldnt even tell I was eating kimchi... basically looked like cooked cabbage instead of fermented cabbage.. the rice and seaweed was getting stuck to the paper that it was wrapped in.. I ordered strawberry matcha latte which is new. Not much strawberry and matcha flavor... not sure what the hype is about or maybe I ordered the wrong thing..
google avatar

Keith W.

Yelp
Quick and yummy breakfast. The spam which I assume is not spam as it not as salty and smother. My guess is homemade? But I enjoyed it! These are stored in a small oven in the coffee shop. I was there at around 9:30 and they had plenty of stock. It's quick and easy to grab.. and take electronic payment.
google avatar

Yelp
Coffees & Musubis!! Can't go wrong with this combo and coffee shop. There's also a parklet outside with tables to enjoy your food and drink. In the mornings the sun shines on this side of the block to keep you warm. I tried their musubi & egg spam with their gochujang sauce. Egg on anything is always yum. The matcha latte and oatmilk lattes are also great. Parking is residential and this spot is also close to Ocean Beach.
google avatar

Travis H.

Yelp
I had the kimchi masubi, cold brew coffee and my girlfriend had the turkey pesto sandwich (made on a delicious sourdough) the strawberry horchata. Everything we had hit the spot! The beach is very close by so it's convenient to go for a walk with your coffee after you eat.

Lily X.

Yelp
Delicious and wholesome. Great place for a fancy treat of breakfast for myself after a morning stroll near the beach. Will surely come back to try other items on the menu!
google avatar

Bryan L.

Yelp
I always choose Avenues over Andytown. Good coffee , things ready to go for the beach. Great breakfast sandwhich (add bacon) on some of the best sourdough bread I've ever had. Chicken bahn mi sandwhich is colorful both visually and on flavor. Musubis are on deck for quick grab n go convenience (salmon sells out first so get it if you can). Owner and employees are all laid back and friendly. All items a good value I'd say
google avatar

Monica M.

Yelp
A sunny Saturday day after all that rain was worth a visit to the beach! The sunset experience has turned into lines out the door and sold out options. If you want specific musubi you better hope it's in the hot case by the time you get to the front because it's first come first serve and whatever is left is all there is. I wanted different musubi but settled for what was available because, no choice. I wish the rice was seasoned and they could add more kimchi to their kimchi spam one... the over easy egg and spam is just that. The drinks were much tastier in comparison... matcha lemonade was refreshing and had the matcha presence without chalkiness or bitterness and the horchata cold brew was a nice easy drink that gave equally coffee and equally horchata. It was busy... not even lunch time yet and line was 15 people deep with not much room for sitting to wait for food. The made to order menu looks yummy and I wanted the beet salad but they didn't have it. A bit of a pet peeve to wait in a long line and they don't even have what you planned to order and are out of the musubi varieties. It's a nice neighborhood spot but I wouldn't make a trip out of the spot. Just a nice drink spot mainly if you're not looking for a meal...

Yelp
As a long distance cyclist, one of the most important parts of success is NUTRITION. After a 100 mile ride my friend pulled out a VEGAN musubi from his bag and it was the most delicious and energy packed food. Long story short, he told me about Avenues and I made the 40 minute bike ride before work trek (they open at 8) and I was not disappointed! As a vegetarian it's difficult to find veg musubis in the city, super grateful for this gem! It's mouth watering, complex and packs a super flavor. Ambiance wise: they don't have a bathroom for customers which ain't cute and the staff could be nicer - but I mean, couldn't we all? Not much space to kick it inside, but they have a pretty spacious parklet outside!
google avatar

Dan D.

Yelp
Fantastic haircuts and ambience Have taken my son there twice and considering he's a 15 year old who barely sings the praises if any thing - his smile said it all. Loved the care and attention Joey, Andy and the crew take with their craft. The music and convo alone is enough to come here. Great addition to the neighborhood!

Yelp
Decent breakfast club sandwich and spam musubi in the outer sunset of SF. This place served kimchee musubi and they gave gochujang sauces to pour on top of the musubi... definitely Korean-influenced. My husband and I came on a Saturday around 1130am. The spam musubi were self-served inside the heater and whatever they had left was it for the day. Luckily, we were able to get the last kimchee musubi since my husband wanted to try that one and a runny egg with spam musubi. We also ordered the breakfast club sandwich that everyone raved about on Yelp. They used good sour dough bread, but man, it took forever to get the order. Decent prices for a good snack though. We also ordered an Iced Americano and the Horchata Cold Brew. The coffee drinks were only okay. Apparently, they used or just sell Verve coffee beans too. Overall, it was a cute place for a great snack! The Bacon Shitake Pastry tasted like caramelized candy on a pastry puff. Not bad!

Yelp
Delicious find for grab-and-go breakfast musubi + yummy Asian/American fusion sandwiches + Verve coffee! Also with few good vegan options. Open 8am-3pm daily :) Parking/Location: Few blocks from Ocean Beach on Taraval, next to Underdog. Street parking. Seating: No chairs or tables, but a little outdoor bench area outside and a few low box seats in the parklet area. Can always grab and go to the beach or Golden Gate Park! Drinks: I had a mocha ($5.50) with oat milk and enjoyed it. Friend had the Matcha lemonade ($5.25), which was subtle in matcha flavor but really grew on her with its balance (not my pref since I like matcha with milk, but worth a try if you like matcha). Food: -Breakfast Banh Mi ($11): Get this one with spam (+$1!) It was delicious with its egg with jelly-yolk consistency. Packed with tart shredded pickled veggies and a crunchy toasted bread with sesame. A bit messy, but not crazy if you have the box under you ;) Also got bacon on it (+$1), but we agreed spam was enough. They can also make vegan! -Three Cheese Grilled Cheese ($9) and bowl of Vegan Tomato Soup ($5.50): Would get again to split with a friend. Cannot go wrong with 3 types of cheese (gruyere, cheddar, fromage blanc), generously melted on warm sourdough. Could have been just a tad crunchier, but a real heartwarmer when dipped in their Tomato Soup. I was blown away how creamy it was for it being vegan! Tricking my body to think that the lactose-bomb that is the grilled cheese is completely offset by this lactose-free and comforting soup. -Kimchi Musubi ($5): You can pick up all the musubi at their warmer. Rice is warm with a good slice of spam and egg. Could have a little more kimchi flavor, but a great snack option nonetheless. Overall, would come again! Plenty of options for grab and go, coffee, and more filling lunch options. Would 100% grab a sandwich, musubi, and coffee again :)

Yelp
So happy I stumbled upon Avenues! I love coming here on weekend mornings, it's never really too too busy. It's the perfect place to stop before heading to the beach which is right across the street. It has such a cute beach vibe to it! They serve Verve coffee here which I love, my usual is an iced oat latte! If you stop by in early enough you might also be able to snag one of their delicious spam musubis! Whenever I make it in by 9am they typically have a few spam musubi options to choose from. So definitely plan an early visit if that's what you're coming for!

Yelp
Nice selection of masubi. My kid loves this place and constantly asking to visit it. Very chill staffs.

Yelp
3.5 STARS Egg P*rn There's nothing more satisfying then cutting into an egg and seeing liquid gold ooze out like lava with its rich creamy goodness. So spam musubi with an oozy custardy yolk? Ph*ck yea, bring on the cholesterol! Avenues is a cute little café and surf shop less than two blocks from Ocean Beach. I've had this bookmarked for several years so I was excited to finally try their musubi. They're open for takeout with there's parklet seating outside. M E N U * Pastries, Toast, Musubi, Soup, Salad, and Sandwiches. * Coffee (Verve), Tea, and Bottles Drinks. Dairy alternatives: almond and oat milk. I read reviews that the musubis sell out early, before noontime so I got there about 45 minutes after they opened. The musubis weren't ready yet and it was about a 40 minute wait. Since I trekked across the city, I waited and the anticipation built. A regular told me the best time to go is 10 am when they have all the musubis available so you have a short window to get them. S P A M M U S U B I ($5): https://bit.ly/3bEt4Mc Maybe I visited on an off day but the spam musubi was underwhelming. You can't go wrong with salty spam and a runny egg...but the rice was really dry and the musubi didn't seem to have the tamari glaze. The spicy gochujang dipping (+45 cents) had to do the heavy lifting. Also, when looking back at older yelp pics, I noticed that the slice of spam seems to be half the thickness now. Blame it on inflation. S E R V I C E Cordial. A M B I A N C E Cute, modern surf shop. P A R K I N G Street parking only. Can be difficult at times but since we got there early, we found parking in several minutes. Overall, I wished the hype was real with Avenues' spam musubi but it was a let-down. Again, you can't go wrong with spam and a runny egg so 3.5 stars rounded up for a local small business.

Yelp
Service - Nice. Coffee - Good. Musubis - Got here after 10AM, and was surprised that none of the musubis had been made yet. Had to also wait for about 20 minutes, and found out later at Fort Funston that they had given me 2 tofu musubis when I ordered the a kimchi musubi also. And it was not good. There was no flavor. I thought I ordered this with a runny egg but there was no runny egg. They mentioned a tamari glaze but couldn't taste any glaze. Overall, the musubis were drier than the sands of Fort Funston beach. Looking back at older Yelp pictures, their musubis looked very different.
google avatar

Dominic A.

Yelp
This is a favorite for me as they have wonderful Gluten and Lactose free + healthy breakfast options. All of the musubis are really good, as are the other food options I've tried (avocado toast pictured below). Baristas are always very friendly and chill. I like the different drinks, but sometimes not huge on the black coffee (I usually drink black coffee). They serve Verve coffee, and it's an intense roast. The vibe is solid, but unfortunately not much space to sit and hangout (only reason for 4 stars).
google avatar

Cheri L.

Yelp
Came by to try the over easy egg musubi here. When I went, they were already prepared and placed in a food warmer. Since it is already prepared, the egg is only a little bit runny so there is not as much of a runny yolk as you would expect. The flavor was fine alone but I think the gochujang sauce was definitely a must. The sauce is not very spicy so don't worry if you don't have a spice tolerance.

Yelp
Spot is so good, I had to write a review! Compared to other coffee shops that sometimes feel pretentious, Avenues has a cool but welcoming vibe. Let me preface by saying I am by no means a coffee connoisseur, the staff was more than willing to explain their coffee options to me. Aside from the friendly staff, their drinks are worth the trip back. I tried their matcha lemonade and horchata cold brew, both are yummy.

Yelp
I like their spam musubi although they're pricey. Their online order said all the musubis were unavailable but I went to the store and saw that the had a lot in stock. The staff didn't thank me for letting them know that their website was showing that the spam musubi wasn't available and just said I can order it now. I got the tofu musubi which was good but I forgot to ask for the gochujang which I saw them ask the person in front of me if he wanted one. I liked the tofu musubi and went back to get the baked tamago egg musubi and asked for the gochujang this time. A different staff person was friendlier this time and said they ran out but are making more, so I waited 10-15 min for them to blend it. The gochujang dip was very good and i recommend you ask for it. Next time I'll try the runny egg musubi and a latte.

Yelp
Feeling nostalgic, try a Hawaiian timeless staple. Thick plank of spam with baked tamari-glazed egg lightly dusted furikaki sandwiched between sticky short-grain rice then rolled in nori seaweed sheets. Love that savory goodness in every handheld bite. The Breakfast Club on lightly grilled toasted thick sourdough slices with a perfect oozing over easy egg and quarter creamy avocado slivers. Would have liked a tad more peppery arugula and another slice of bacon to offset the cost. Delicious and heavenly nonetheless. Selected menu options made fresh to order with minimum wait 10+ minutes. Prices on par wherever you go.

Yelp
Really good breakfast musubi! I really enjoy the soft boiled egg with spam, it has the perfect ratio of ingredients. I would recommend coming before 11am on the weekends - they tend to run out quick!

Yelp
Great food and coffee. Food choices are Korean/japanese fushion takes on breakfast classics...a nice alternative to the standard bfast fare. Lots of regulars which shows the spot knows what they're doing service and food wise. Musubis are great grab and go option. Recommended!

Yelp
Avenues is a nice little space just a block from the Beach, with freshly made Musubi , I had a tasty spam and egg , plus a nice buttery croissant, and banana muffin. There is some seating outside, but it's nice to know there is a breakfast / lunch options so close to Ocean Beach. They also make a killer Avo Toast, and a healthy mix of salads. Plus they serve Verve Coffee a toaster out of Santa Cruz. more about Verve here vervecoffee.com Parking was easy, and the person who helped me was very pleasant. FYI : This is also surf shop.

Yelp
If you want to try their spam musubi make sure you get there before 11AM! I still never made it on time to try. Love their cold brew and it's just two blocks from the beach!

Yelp
Love their breakfast sandos! It's all made to order so it takes a bit of time. Make sure you have lots of napkins because the yolk is oozy! It's definitely my fav breakfast place in the area and you can take your food to the beach!

Yelp
Had a chance to stop by and grab a quick musubi to enjoy over breakfast at the beach. I rarely buy spam musubi at restaurants, but Avenues was definitely worth the shot. They make every musubi with a nice thick layer of teriyaki glazed spam and egg of your choice (tamago or over easy), sandwiched between two layers of seasoned rice. To my surprise, they also provided a side of gochujang that brought slightly spicy and sweet notes to this delicious snack. If I was in the area and looking for a quick snack, I would definitely buy it again!

Yelp
Tried the spam musabi, pretty good . The size was fair, but for $5 I can make it at home myself.

Yelp
It's a nice little place in the neighborhood. Parking wasn't too hard on a Sunday morning. We just ordered the spam musubi with eggs, and the online ordering system was easy to use and on time. Staff was very friendly and welcoming as well. The only thing was that the spam musubi was sort of blend. It felt like everything was just cooked as it is and unseasoned. I didn't get the sauce because it was spicy, so maybe it would have been better that way.

Yelp
What's better than a cute coffee shop that serves spam musubi? They do both excellently, and it's really a tasty treat when you're coming from a (likely) windy walk on the beach. The portion size of the musubi is plentiful for one, and they add an egg to it! there's a lot of competition for coffee on the street, and avenues is definitely worth checking out.

Yelp
Cute tiny place on 46th Ave and Taraval. this area has become surprisingly hipster during the pandemic. & I'm not mad at it. Only open for 7:30am -1:30pm on the weekdays, you will need to come early before they run out of their popular spam musubis! I am still amazed how they manage to fit a soft boiled egg in the tightly packed sandwich, but it might just be the best thing ever. served with a side of gochujang sauce! Their Horchata cold brew is also a popular item! Nothing wrong with a little sweet cinnamon-y rice milk added to cold brew. I'm for it.

Tasty decaf latte. Friendly service. Nice place to sit outside on some rocks (no tables).

Yelp
Quick, delicious, and affordable! The tofu mutsubi curry bowl cured my hangover, and the chai was spectacular. I'd also recommend the breakfast bahn mi. The space is cute and has outdoor seating. I'll be back for sure.

Yelp
This place is a gem. The musubis and breakfast bahn mi sandwiches always get us excited for breakfast here. Great coffee and friendly staff. There's this really cool area to read a book, drink a coffee and meet the neighbors, it feels like a special garden just for this place. The icing on the cake here though is the proximity to the beach. Getting a delicious latte to go and take a walk on the beach can sometimes be exactly what the doctor ordered at Avenues.

Yelp
Cute little place!!! Love the area with Underdogs, Too reopened right next door and Tunnel Records a few shops away. My oat milk mocha was delicious! They also sell my favorite - homemade musabis! I got the kimchi + overeasy egg + spam. You can get the homemade sauce to go with it. The musabi was good but a bit bland without the sauce. Also, it might be better in a smaller size because it was really messy to eat. Might just get coffee and a pastry next time but I will definitely be back. There is outdoor seating right in front and my coffee was even better enjoyed in the warm sun.
