"Dining is an experience at Top Chef alum Katsuji Tanabe’s Mexico City-inspired restaurant with LM Restaurants. Performances include a tequila cocktail on fire or a spray bottle of orange juice for a mimosa. Follow up your cocktail with Tanabe’s grandmother’s cornbread recipe, topped with honey truffle butter, and don’t miss the octopus and chorizo tacos." - Sarah Day Owen Wiskirchen

"After too many hours stuck in Los Angeles traffic, Top Chef alum Katsuji Tanabe switched up California for North Carolina with the promise of more space for his young family in the Triangle. Unfortunately his timing coincided with the pandemic, and it forced his first Raleigh restaurant High Horse to close in the summer of 2020. But now he’s ready to go again with Mexican restaurant A’Verde Cocina and Tequila Library in Cary. Why Mexican? Tanabe was born in Mexico City to Mexican and Japanese parents, so he grew up eating many of the dishes that will be on the menu at A’Verde. The food will be a combination of modern Mexican cooking with Japanese techniques. “I’m not trying to make a fusion, but I was raised with soy sauce, fish sauce, and togarashi in the kitchen,” he says, “So this is Mexican food through the lens of a Mexican-Japanese chef.” Tanabe is pushing the flavors, like his corn esquites comes together with chilies, nori, sesame seeds, and orange peel. “I’m not trying to do carne asada sushi rolls,” he says, “I’m building layers of flavor with Japanese umami and balancing it with Mexican limes and chilis and spices.” “All the dishes have a story,” he says. 90% of what customers order will be plates inspired by his father, mother, and grandmother. Tanabe even predicts that his grandmother’s cornbread will be a runaway hit at A’Verde. “It’s like cornbread gone wrong,” he laughs, “It has tons of sugar, tons of butter, cheese, and fresh corn.” Other dishes mentioned on the menu include octopus tacos, enchiladas, and plenty of local vegetables from okra to butternut squash. In addition to Tanabe’s fare, A’Verde will also feature a massive tequila selection that the restaurant’s team thinks might be the biggest collection in the Triangle, if not the state. While an opening date isn’t set just yet, A’Verde will most likely open at 2300 Walnut Street in Cary before spring 2022. The 5,500 square foot space will be able to accommodate 250-300 seats. Tanabe says he’s excited to open a family-oriented place in the area." - Erin Perkins

Overall was good. Food and drinks are delicious. Went with coworkers for team building and celebrate birthdays. I give 4 stars because we were extremely disappointed that our server was privately told 2 of the guests were celebrating birthdays and we would like to celebrate them. She completely agreed and recognized the 2 I was referring to. 20 minutes before leaving we made a comment that we had to leave in 20 minutes due to other reservations….hoping this would remind her of the birthdays. She never did anything but bring the bill and stayed at the back. I should have spoken with her but it was already too late and we had to leave. It was a very special day for our coworkers , hopefully the servers pay more attention to their guests and understand the importance and excitement for these occasions. I am posting some of the delicious food we had…

We checked out Averde in Cary and had an awesome time! Super family-friendly place — kids eat for just 99 cents, which is amazing. Our kiddos were happy with their meals, and so were we. They also had free face painting, which was such a hit. The kids loved it and it kept them busy while we enjoyed our food. The vibe is fun, the staff is super nice, and the food was delicious — definitely recommend the tacos and chips & salsa. If you’re looking for a fun spot to take the family without breaking the bank, Averde’s the place to go!

Google
New favorite spot! A family member has celiac and we are able to eat here safely - gluten free and safe from cross contamination! Aside from that, the food is absolutely incredible. Unassuming exterior but the vibe inside is great. Service was also top notch.

Google
Update: SO GOOD we went back the next day. One of the absolute best meals of my life. From start to finish, the attention to detail—especially with gluten-free options—was phenomenal. As someone who typically has to be cautious when dining out, I felt completely at ease and truly indulged in the experience. The gluten-free cornbread? Unreal. Warm, rich, perfectly textured—truly to die for. The birria tacos were bursting with flavor, tender and juicy with the perfect balance of spice and savor. And the margarita? Smooth, bold, and soo good. Every bite was memorable. The service, the atmosphere, the thoughtful presentation—it all made for an unforgettable dining experience. I can’t wait to go back!

Google
Wonderful first visit. The waitress and chef were super nice and helpful. Food was presented really nicely and it’s great to see the passion for food in this place. You gotta love what you do and that is expressed in every dish they provide. My daughter enjoyed watching the dancing

Google
This was a cute Monday night date! We had a delicious spread of food (as you can see). The tacos were phenomenal but it was something about the okra and Brussel sprouts that kept me coming back for more!

James Johnson

Google
The decor and atmosphere is very nice, the service is good. The food is nowhere near the quality of what they have priced the menu at. I got the carne asada plate (not the tacos) and it cost $26.00, the steak was literally the size of two pieces of bacon, the rice was ok, the beans tasted like they were leftovers, the chilaquiles was soggy and not very flavorful. $26 for soggy chips, 2 slices of beef, and leftover sides.

On 12/26/25 dined here for my birthday celebration and I absolutely enjoyed myself. My waitress (Kat) was absolutely amazing, she was patient and so helpful with suggesting items as this was my first visit. The environment/atmosphere was so relaxing, the lighting was just perfect and the sitting arrangements were just right no matter how large your crowd and/or party is! I ordered the Baja taco fish and boy oh boy was it delicious! I would highly recommend this restaurant to friends and family!

Yelp
The service was great!! I got their new Avocado lime Salmon and it was delicious. The ambience was nice although I personally would like to see more options for non-alcoholic beverages other than fountain drinks. A kids menu would be a great addition to the place. But the overall experience was 9/10. I 100% recommend it!

Maximillian E.

Yelp
Maddie was fantastic! Her service was superb and I will definitely be coming back to this establishment.

Teri V.

Yelp
The service was awesome! Caleb was very attentive and friendly. The place is well decorated, very cute. The food is hot and spicy, a bit much for me. Cornbread is great but get a dessert, as well as the plantains.

Rebecca L.

Yelp
Great restaurant. Good service. Thursday is kids night after 5pm. $0.99 kids meals. Free face painting too. The steak fajitas they light up on front of you. Very tasty. 3 tortillas included. Fish tacos were so delicious when eaten right away. Pork belly was meh. Parking available in lot.

Yelp
Home to "The World's Smallest Burrito!" Disappointing to say the least. Our family ordered burritos and tacos during lunch and while the flavors were good the portions were microscopic. Bummer. I should have taken a photo ... the burrito was slightly larger than an egg roll I recently had : ( Service was perfect. Ambiance was typical Tex mex cantina motif. Modelos draft beers were borderline .... kind of flat and probably time to change the keg. Margarita was fine. Salsa was tasty but crazy watery in consistency. Hardly any chunks of tomato, onion, veg....Chips were fine. This was our first time here. Too many good options in Raleigh. We cannot recommend A'Verde Cocina. They earned 2 stars for over priced food. PS: I avoid Chipotle but prefer Chipotle to A'Verde.

Maggie L.

Yelp
Alaina was awesome! The tequila was really great. The lights in the restaurant were just the right amount of brightness. Alaina was so speedy and really helped us understand the menu. Next time we'll get the bell shot!

Chris C.

Yelp
Great service - thanks, Alaina! Drinks fantastic. Food was great. All a great evening.

Yelp
Came here based on reviews. This was number 1 in the list. We were not impressed. I had Carne Assada and wife had a chicken dish. Both were so tough that we couldn't chew them. The best thing were the chips and salsa they bring out when you first sit down. Ok that being said, our server was over the top sweet and efficient. If I had a restaurant I would want her on my staff. I would not recommend this restaurant based on our experience. And we don't take that lightly.

Danielle O.

Yelp
I have heard a lot of great things about this place that made me excited to come but was left disappointed without the expectation returning. The service wasn't that great overall, she wasn't rude but wasn't a very good server. While we were actively eating, she comes by and asks we want boxes to which I replied confused and stated I was still eating. It was also not close to closing as it was probably 830pm and they closed at 11pm. After that interaction she never came back and we had to ask another server for some water and she wasn't that friendly about it either. (Edit: I feel I should add that the whole time I could see my waitress just standing in the corner of the server alley either talking, eating or on her phone or something, so she wasn't busy) After our waitress finally came around we got a box and still had to ask for more water and she immediately brings the bill, and again, I mention I wanted dessert. I don't understand her rush to get us out and after we finally finished dessert, we had to stop her for the check ironically because she didn't come to bring it. The Mexican street corn was also not very good and just tasted, felt and looked extremely greasy and oily. The other food was okay, not amazing, but our tortillas seemed a bit old as the other edges were very hard. The place looked nice and clean though and the host was friendly. Also, when we made the reservation we noted it was our anniversary but it was not acknowledged at all, not sure if they don't do anything for it or not but that's not a big deal, just noting for others.

Glenn G.

Yelp
We wanted to like this place but frankly, it did not meet our expectations. We know it's from a famous chef and when you see "Tequila Library," you expect a more adult establishment. When we stopped in mid-week there were a lot of families there (maybe even a birthday party?) and it just didn't fit what we were hoping for. It was noisy and distracting. If they want to be a family restaurant, that's fine. I just wouldn't highlight the adult beverages. The food was okay but not necessarily better than some other restaurants in the area. There was one interesting dish we tried and that was the ube flan. At least that was unique.

Yelp
Finally got to try this Mexican restaurant Sunday before a show at Koka Booth. Hadn't realized it's in the Crossroads part of Cary. Plenty of parking. Big building. Had no problem scoring a booth in the bar half. Service with a smile right away. Started us off with ice water while our Smoky Pineapple Mezcal drinks were being made. Both of us loved them. Not cheap. They are $15 each, but they don't skimp on the booze. Refreshing, and they went well with the chips and salsa they brought us, along with the rest of our meals. Husband really liked the chips, but not my fave as they are really thick. Just personal preference. I prefer thin chips. We were told they had some new things on the menu, but it was all new to us. I ordered Camarones A La Crema with beans and rice. Husband got the Shrimp Tacos Platter which comes with beans and rice. Favorite thing for me is they put the beans and rice next to each other! In the case of the taco platter, they're even in a bowl together. Most Mexican restaurants separate them, and I'm of the theory that they should be eaten together. They were seasoned nicely with some spices I couldn't quite put my finger on. Maybe a touch of cinnamon? As for my Shrimp dish, it was perfectly cooked, but my first reaction was where were the sauteed peppers and onions? There were a few miniscule pieces that I could barely spot. Would have loved detectable ones. But it was all tasty and I certainly polished it all off. Husband enjoyed his shrimp tacos but would have liked one more. (They serve two). Will definitely go back as there are lots of great sounding things to try!

Meta V.

Yelp
I could never say no to warm chips and salsa! This was my second time here and this time we came to party. A 'Verde came out with the jam box, a Celebration song and bubbles! Then when the birthday boy (man) wanted to take his birthday shot -- well that was cool too! Let's not forget my son got his octopus tacos, someone had the grouper fish tacos and I had the shrimp tacos. All came with a reasonable portion of beans and rice. No crumbs left behind. We all enjoyed our food. Service was on point. We ordered the margarita tower for the party. Huge and definitely enough for more than 6. If you like tequila, you'll be happy. Did I mention the never ending warm tortilla chips and salsa? In the words of the terminator: I'll be back!

Yelp
We went to this restaurant last night, and our server was Lauren. The only standout of the evening was the drinks. We ordered fresh guac and fajitas. . It's pretty standard and hard to get wrong. The food wasn't necessarily bland, but it just didn't have a lot of flavor. The fajitas were very greasy and the tortillas didn't have any flavor and broke after the first bite so it was not a pleasant experience trying to eat them. The guacamole was actually some of the worst I've had. It was flavorless except for the parmesan cheese on top... Never heard of anyone doing that and it did not add to it at all. My friend actually had to return her dish after taking a couple bites due to it being flavorless so she sat there while the rest of us ate. Lauren did not have any personality and was actually rude a couple times. She literally pushed my arm out of the way while I was talking to my friend while she was putting the guac on the table and also did it with my drink... didn't say a word and just walked away. The only time she was actually nice was at the very end when she gave us our checks and then she had a totally different personality (of course). Overall this was not a great experience for anyone in our party. I've had better food and service at a lot cheaper and lesser establishments. We will not be returning and I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone based on our experience last night. I try not to post many negative reviews but when you are paying $100+ to eat basic Hispanic food, you expect better.

Joe M.

Yelp
Fresh, delicious Mexican food. I tried a tequila old fashioned - amazing. The shrimp quesadillas were phenomenal. Our server, Savannah, was friendly and helpful.

Sarah M.

Yelp
We watched Chef Katsuji on Top Chef a few years back, so we had to try his restaurant A'Verde once we moved to Raleigh. What a fun place to celebrate 9 years of being a couple! We sat outside on the porch and they were playing some music, which we had a good time jamming to. This is such a fun place with good vibes! They started us out with (on the house) chips and salsa - I loved how the chips were warm & cut in long strips. The salsa tasted fresh, acidic, and a little spicy. The waitress recommended the cornbread with honey truffle butter, which I normally wouldn't think to order at a Mexican restaurant, but it was DELICIOUS. It was sweet and crispy with a very strong corn flavor. The honey truffle butter added moisture to the crisp cornbread - I could taste the truffle flavor when I ate the butter on its own, but not so much in a bite with the cornbread. For entrees, I got the braised pork shank and my husband got 3 tacos. The braised pork shank fell right off the bone, cooked to perfection. The sauce/pork marinade was acidic and spicy, though I wish it could have been thickened up on the plate so I could sop the pork in it. The black bean refried beans were okay - lacking a bit of salt and nothing to write home about. The shrimp taco was the best of the 3 tacos - spicy and creamy. The carne asada taco was a solid, basic steak taco. The chicken tinga taco was a bit too wet and fell apart. We love blue corn tortillas, but I wish these had more blue corn flavor and were toasted more. The service is insanely fast here, so if you want a longer meal, I recommend holding off on ordering until you want the food. The cornbread came out almost immediately after we ordered it, and the entrees took less than 10 minutes. I do love fast service though, so no complaints here

William T.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our dinner here! First, the restaurant had a dedicated parking lot, and it was super easy to find parking. We were seated immediately and our server was present throughout, which was great. The restaurant was dimly lit and just generally felt kind of chill. The meal began with some tasty free chips and salsa, which is always a great way to start! For my entree, I ordered the Baja fish tacos (recommended by the server) and they were super delicious. I also ordered a margarita for myself, and it wasn't bad at all. Overall, we would definitely come back!

Debbie B.

Yelp
Excellent service from Alana! The food was awesome. Will definitely be back. Highly recommend the cornbread too

Dylan C.

Yelp
The service was excellent! Thanks Savannah! The new brunch items and speciality cocktails were impressive. Great value and excellent flavors. Very good!!

Sam V.

Yelp
Absolutely worse experience. My wife, vegetarian, simply wanted to replace potatoes with black beans on one of their vegetarian dishes and they were not able to accommodate the request, not helped further by cold shoulder from the server. Would not recommend if you're vegetarian.

Brilynn C.

Yelp
Food was very flavorful and fresh. The guacamole and salsa hit all the flavonoids! The chips were super crispy and salted. I ordered 3 tacos and was really happy with the serving size on proteins. I love that I can mix and match the tacos offered. Service really lacked here, from having to ask for silverware to long waits for requests. No drink refills. Ambience is beautiful, inside and outside. Plenty of seating for large groups and intimate corners. Face painter (for kids night) offered on Thursday's. I would highly recommend this restaurant to enjoy the authentic flavors. Would I return again because of service? Yes. I wanna try more of the menu!

Janet C.

Yelp
The food and ambiance here is incredible. They have really good taco Tues and it's a really family friendly place with free face painting on Thursdays! Highly recommend! Kids night every Thurs night and kids eat for 99cents. Apparently every 5th of the month, starting on November 5th, they've got games like plinko, face painting, $5 Margaritas, special giveaways, a live DJ set, and dancing! "This event is FREE and open to the public. And don't forget, KID FRIENDLY." The food is really tasty and the restaurant is fun and pretty with funky decor like a phone booth full of artificial plants and a disco ball. They have a bunch of Christmas decorations around too for the holidays which includes ornaments, hanging felt llamas and cacti, as well as a Christmas tree to name a few things. Def coming back here. You gotta order the cochinita pibil and the squid ink risotto thing. Both were delicious!

Brooke F.

Yelp
The last few times we've eaten here over the past year or so, the service and food has really taken a nosedive. Today was our last visit. The food is mediocre at best and the service is slow and sloppy. Their street corn used to be amazing. We've tried the new version twice now and it's just blah. It was so good before they changed it. Tonight our order was put in incorrectly so instead of a taco dinner one in our party was served a single taco with no side. We told the food runner immediately and he said they'd fix it. Even came back out and said it would be out soon. It never came. When we asked the waitress about it she knew nothing but went to check. Another lengthy wait and she brought out a single taco on a plate again. We pointed out the issue (again) and she said she'd get the rice and beans. By the time they came out, the second single taco had been eaten and the waitress took the plate and fork away leaving no way for the diner to eat their very late rice and beans. It was a ridiculous experience. And the tacos, rice, and beans all sucked - even mine which was served together as ordered. We won't be back.

Adam B.

Yelp
As we walked in on an early Monday afternoon , we noticed some construction people scoping around inside there, it looks they are renovating the bar inside. They had a $5 margarita special, which was more than fine for me. A lot of salt was on the rim, I had to wipe a little off. The warm, crisp chips were excellent, just a hint of salt, enough to give a little flavor. The salsa was a little thin, but still very fresh and flavorful. I got 3 tacos ala carte, they all came in warm blue corn tortillas, something you don't find at every taqueria. They also included a small segment of lime segment as well. I opted for a octopus and chorizo, Carne asada, and fried fish. I would say the fish was my favorite, it was topped with slaw, some sliced hot peppers, and chipotle aioli. Really good crunch on the fish too. Pretty good spot, it would be worth coming back.

Laura M.

Yelp
Great food atmosphere and service. Always a fun time with friends. Birthdays are extra special here. Love it! Francisco was great!!

Lynn R.

Yelp
The outside is super cute when you arrive and they have a nice set up under cover for those who enjoy sitting outside. The location is easy to find and there is ample parking. I was seated quickly and the server was very nice and friendly. My friend and I ordered the guacamole and chips to share. This was very good and fresh with just the right amount of onion and tomato and pepitas. The chips were homemade and very crispy and tasty. We also ordered fajitas with chicken. This had peppers and bacon with it and for me it was just a little too salty, but it was still very good. I don't care for spice or a lot of salt so I might not be the best judge of this. This came with several little side items such as sour cream and cheese, and some salsa. All in all our meal was good and the ambience is very nice at this location.

Natalie W.

Yelp
We had a party of 12 and we were quickly seated. Our server, Madison, was great! She was attentive and refilled our beverages without us having to ask. The food was authentic and flavorful! I ordered the pork tacos and it had the right amount of spice. Will definitely come back. Overall a nice atmosphere.

MK W.

Yelp
We arrived about 4 on a Saturday and place was mostly empty. We were seated and brought waters promptly. Very friendly server. The food was fine but I was expecting better. I liked the chips as they were thicker than normal but the queso was akin to velvetta. The Al Pastor Gringa had very little filling and the churros were very hard - almost inedible.

Amy B.

Yelp
Great, fresh, and reasonably priced. Our server, Maddie, was friendly and attentive. We will be back and will bring friends with us!!

Connie R.

Yelp
Food was excellent as always!!! Even Chef Jorge came out to meet us & share a few culinary secrets!! He also shared they will start a seasonal menu soon! Thanks to our server Susan as well! She was so kind & friendly! It felt as if we were dining with long time friends!

Kellie D.

Yelp
Had a reservation on a Thursday night and didn't need it. The place was not full at all. Nice atmosphere but a lot of open tables in the middle. Took a little while for a waiter to come over and he seemed distracted by another table but we ordered waters and cocktails. I just ordered the too basic cocktail but it was far from basic. It came out on fire! But more importantly it was delicious-- perfect mix of tequila and sour. Five stars on the drink, for sure. I ordered the chicken tings and octopus and chorizo tacos. Both were fabulous but I really love that they have an octopus taco. Husband ordered the Carnita taco and mojo chicken taco. He was just as pleased as I was. I definitely want to come back to this place and try other drinks and dishes. Fun place!

Fatima A.

Yelp
I visited A'Verde with some coworkers. It was on a weekday at around 1:00pm so there was plenty of seating. We were seated immediately and the waitress was friendly and attentive. We ordered and food came out quickly. They served warm chips and salsa while you wait. My group enjoyed their food and all said it was tasty. I tried something new - the passion fruit chicken bowl with guacamole. It was way too sweet and hard to finish. But I wanted to try something new. These are the things we loved - the Mexican street corn, okra, plantains, and the fish taco was delicious. My group also had burritos and quesadillas. They enjoyed their food. I would go again, but it's probably not my go to Mexican restaurant. It was a bit pricy for Mexican food in my opt. One fish taco was $8 and my passion fruit dish was $17 or so and it wasn't a big portion. Overall it was a good meal. Beautiful artwork adorned the walls and they place great music. I have to do better with taking pictures of my food. So yeah. Good experience overall.

Lori D.

Yelp
Love the ambiance. I am very glad we chose to eat outside as when we walked in we were greeted by friendly hosts and loud music. Our waitress was a tad scared but friendly. I started with the ghosted cocktail and chips and salsa. Yum. I didn't like the avocado but my husband did. The chips were thick and tasty. We followed with the oysters. They were tiny and ok. Not worth the price. I had the tuna tostada and shared Brussels. Yum. Too much food to finish. Husband had the mole. Overall good. Loved exploring the bathroom. Had to check it out after all the mentions in Yelp!

Danielle B.

Yelp
Great food, great atmosphere and great service from Susan! We loved our experience and would absolutely come back the next time we are in the area.

Amber N.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my meal, the service, and the atmosphere. It is beautifully decorated in the restaurant and seems like a great celebration spot. The ladies bathroom is hilariously decorated with shirtless male celebrities and also thoughtfully stocked with free toiletries like floss, feminine care, & hair ties. We went on a Saturday afternoon for brunch. It wasn't too busy so we received fast and kind service for a table of two. We both enjoyed our food. The corn bread is fluffy and buttery. Adobo fried rice might be my new favorite food. The rice was cooked well, the pork was tender, and everything was so flavorful. It comes with a fried egg & I asked for it to be fried hard. The egg can add more flavor, but it tasted great without the egg too.

Nicole C.

Yelp
Yum! Cider margarita- wow. Otherwise... not a fan. Go for the specialty cocktail, but you're missing nothing with the food. Thick Burnt layer on top of the queso, super greasy taco special, the Baja fish taco was alight- but probably ruined given all the other negatives. Service ok- charged my card an additional $50 then I sat waiting for 20mins for someone to come tell me they charged my card wrong but I will see the correct charge later.. nothing special. Surprised it had so many positive reviews.

Zoe S.

Yelp
Susan was an awesome server! She totally pointed us in the right direction with the flan! It was delicious!!

Valerie L.

Yelp
Great ambiance and great food! I was not disappointed! I had the fish tacos and steak tacos and one of the best I ever had in a long time! Would love to come back again and try the other dishes. Had to take the ube flan to go and cannot wait to try it!

Kara B.

Yelp
I couldn't get enough of this place!! Was visiting from out of town and had to stop in. This place is the vision of Bravo's Top Chef Katsuji Tanabe. I came in during lunch hours. Not busy. Sat at the bar but tables were available without a wait. The bartender was super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Gave amazing drink and food recommendations. The lunch menu is smaller than the dinner menu. I ordered the ceviche tostada. It was messy to eat but very delicious. I also got the mojo chicken tacos. The chicken was tender. The tortillas tasted freshly made- soooo mouthwatering! One of the best I've ever had. The names of the kids food items are super cute and playful. Drink wise I got the So Basic, which is served with a flame lit lime on the top. And the Like, Literally. Both were delicious! My only complaint was that I wanted to order the Hot Mess but they were all out. The vibe of this place is super rad. They have awesome decorations and an awesome mural of a woman on their wall of fancy tequila. Their woman's bathroom is hilarious! They have half naked men and a disco ball. They also offer free feminine products in the bathroom. I can't wait to come back and visit so I can return!

Ali Q.

Yelp
Food and drinks are delicious and service is great! We love the quesadillas and salsa flight!

Courtlyn C.

Yelp
Omg. Try this place and you will not be disappointed. Great atmosphere and the food may be the best we have had in a long time. Quick service, great food. We go out to eat a lot and it will be hard to match the taste of A'Verde. We will be back asap.

Neil S.

Yelp
As fans of Top Chef, my wife and I had Averde in Cary on our radar since it opened. Chef Katsuji Tanabe helms this suburban restaurant, which offers Mexican fare with Japanese touches reflecting his personal background. We arrived to a surprisingly half full dining room on Saturday evening. The ambiance of the place struck us with its high ceilings, pops of green and blue, and funky touches including colorful murals and a red phone booth in the middle of the dining room. Our waitress remained available through the meal and was helpful with selecting both food and drinks. We put in two cocktails which, while strong, represented the nadir of our meal. We found both the Palo-Me A Kiss and Hot Mess cocktails slightly too sweet and syrupy for our liking, but the drinks had decent quality ingredients and ultimately complimented the food well. For our food, we started with the tuna tostada. This dish offered fresh chunks of tuna on a crispy corn tortilla topped with a soy sauce, spicy salsa macha, and fresh radishes. That dish compared favorably to one of the better tuna tostadas we had at a famous Mexico City restaurant and made for a fresh yet savory bite. Chef Katsuji actually came to our table when our main course arrived and chatted with us briefly. He explained how best to enjoy the food and answered any questions we had. This gesture added to the hospitality and warmth of the experience and we appreciated the personal attention. For our entree, we opted to share the pork shank. This dish comprised a huge, bone in piece of pork marinated in a zesty miso-achiote sauce and served with black beans, pickled red onions, and corn tortillas. Chef advised us to make tacos out of the meat, beans, and onions and dip them in the super flavorful, tangy sauce, which made for a delicious, rich, and complex bite. Despite how good the pork shank was, the star of the meal for us was, surprisingly, our side of crispy potatoes. These spuds (both sweet and regular potatoes) arrived crispy yet fluffy and were topped with a surprisingly spicy and addictive creamy, tangy habanero pumpkin seed sauce. We've never had those flavors before and are still craving that dish. We also ordered an enjoyable and comforting side of the plantains which had a subtle kick from spicy honey and were paired smartly with Mexican cream and cheese. Our meal ran us $100 pre tip and this included two strong cocktails and more than enough food for two diners. We really enjoyed our meal here and consider Averde a hidden gem in Cary. We loved meeting the chef and dining on updated yet authentic Mexican flavors in vibey surrounds. Both the food and service here left a memorable impression and we would recommend this restaurant for any fan of Mexican food or something different in the Triangle.

Yelp
Very vegetarian friendly! Both the brunch and lunch/dinner food was excellent. Sorry for the lack of pic, I ate it too quick :D Also, drinks and ambiance are great. The design/vibe was cool, you can tell someone put a lot of effort and taste into it!

Yelp
Food was pretty good. Tacos need less mayo. Susan the server was excellent. Also the basic marg has feugo in the description and it's not lying, it's literal.

Yelp
I mean any place that prints Feliz Effing Cumpleanos Holly on your menu for your birthday is pretty amazing. Love what a fun touch that is, they literally personalize it if you tell them ahead of time you are celebrating a birthday. And those sparkle candles don't hurt either. It literally makes celebrating just a little extra fun. I've been in three times now and each time I've really enjoyed my meal. My favorite thing is those refried beans, they are so dang flavorful. The Cohinita Pibil is also not to be missed, it's insanely tender and I would seriously eat that sauce as a soup. The chicken enchiladas were also a surprising stand out favorite for me. Oh and the Cesar salad is literally enough for five people! The cocktails are beautiful and super gram worthy. Of course if you order the shots you literally get to throw the glass at the gong while they blast music and have the bubble machine going. If that would annoy you, just don't sit on their patio. I thought it was pretty fun to watch. I appreciate how this place just always takes it a little bit extra. Not just a little happy birthday message on the menu, but literally across the entire menu, not just one candle in a dessert, literally a Vegas style sparkler candle with a bubble machine on. Just so fun, it's a very thoughtful experience!

Yelp
Was in the mood for some delicious eats so decided to trek out to a'Verde Cocina + Tequila Library... Place was packed but there were some empty seats at the bar .. Place has a lively vibe to it.. so if you're looking for a quiet place for dinner this isnt the place... but if you're looking for an upbeat place than this is the place! So more about atmosphere later.. onto the eats !!!! Grandma's Cornbread served with Honey truffle butter .. very good and moist cornbread and the honey truffle butter adds another sweet yet savory depth to it. Cochinita Pibil is a braised pork shank in miso, achiote, sour orange & aromatic spices. Served with pickled onions on top, and a side of black beans & corn tortillas... sCome hungry or share this dish with someone, the pork shanks offer alot of tender meat and this dish can definitely serve two .. the sauce gives this dish a tangy and savory flavor to the already flavorful pork shank .. the black bean cake is also packed with flavor.. the blue corn tortillas are soft and pretty good on it's own or turned into a taco shell for the pork. Enmoladas is Mole enchiladas made with traditional sauce of dry chiles, peanuts, and chocolate, sweet plantains, roasted potatoes.... this is a traditional smokey chocolatey mole made like its supposed to be.. the enchiladas are filled with roasted potatoes.. next time I'm gonna see if they can use the chicken enchiladas and top it with the mole .. overall an amazing dish. All the food that was orders was pretty damn good .. bartenders were nice and fun .. Btw if you want some tequila .. this place has a bar filled with different tequilas for you to choose from .. Order the ring my bell shots :-) go ahead dont be scared ... do it ! You will know when someone orders it.. trust me ... so go ahead and order it :-) Overall great place for a good fun dinner

Yelp
First time here. Food was great! Very cool atmosphere. Will definitely visit again. Our server was Maddie. She was awesome! Provided a lot of help with gluten free and dairy free options for me. Things she didn't know the answer to, she ran back and forth to ask due to my allergies. Ask for Maddie!!

Yelp
I did takeout, so I can't judge the mechanics of the place, but the chicken enchiladas in a verde sauce that I got were *excellent*. Among the best I've ever had.
