Yelp
I wish I could review the food at Avicolli's, but unfortunately I can only review the service, or lack there of.
We had an engagement that ran long, and when it finally finished, we were hungry. We found Avicolli's on Yelp, and the food and atmosphere looked terrific. It was 8:20pm when we left for the restaurant, and with both Google, and Yelp stating that the restaurant closes at 10pm, we thought it would be a great choice. Boy were we wrong. We walked in the door to Avicolli's at 8:49 pm. We spoke to the hostess, who condescendingly informed us that they stopped seating tables at 8:45. She apologized that website was confusing regarding this rule (more to come on that later). This was not mentioned anywhere, and being that it was a meager 4 minutes after that time, we asked if they could make an exception. Having driven almost 30 minutes to eat here, we were desperately trying to avoid a wasted trip.
The hostess disappeared to the back of the restaurant for about 3/4 minutes. During that time, I scoured the website looking for some semblance of a notice that they stopped seating tables 1hour and 15 minutes prior to close, finding nothing mentioned to that effect. While standing awkwardly at the hostess stand, we observed several employees peeking around the corner to look at us. Presumably assessing if they would grace us with the privilege of serving us dinner during their business hours. We were dressed in business casual attire, not that it should matter, but apparently we didn't make the cut.
The hostess returned to say they would not seat us because the kitchen had already begun closing (I would love to know how much progress you could make closing a kitchen in 4 minutes, while there were still guests seated at tables). She also mentioned that she was "terribly sorry that the seating cut off wasn't more clear on their website". Well that's a nice platitude, but It's not mentioned on their website at all, actually.
If a restaurant can afford to turn away business during business hours in this economy, I assume they're doing pretty well for themselves and this review won't impact them much. In any case, I wanted to make people aware that this restaurant observes unposted "rules" and doesn't much seem to care for the customer experience.
Hopefully the pizza is good, I wouldn't know.
