When my husband visits a friend who lives in the area, they often go to Avila's El Ranchito, which was recommended to us. Upon arrival, the restaurant was very busy and chaotic. We visited on a Thursday around 7 p.m., during the time when several graduation parties were taking place. The hosts advised us that the wait would be approximately 15 minutes. Interestingly, another couple that arrived after us was seated before my children and me, which was somewhat disappointing. Once seated, I had to get my own menu, as only two had been provided initially. When ordering drinks, I asked for lemons with my water but did not receive them, despite following up. My children shared the carne asada plate, and I ordered the fish tacos. The salsa was delicious and chunky. The carne asada was large enough for both of them to share; the meat was tender and thin. The rice was flavorful, while the refried beans were okay but had a noticeable taste of lard. The fish tacos were mediocre, with a strong fish flavor not typical of white fish, but complemented by a nice slaw. The black beans lacked flavor, so I chose not to eat them. I had forgotten that I ordered their house soup; it was acceptable, although it lacked any particularly bold flavors. I needed to add lime to give it a bit of extra zest. Overall, I was somewhat disappointed with the experience, and given there are many other Mexican restaurant options, I likely would not return.
