Avista Restaurant

we wanted an extra special setting with a good menu for eight of us for our last stop before going home following a world cruise. This restaurant had it all…. gorgeous setting, wonderful menu ( we had the tasting menu and wine flight) beautifully presented with staff that excelled in their level of service. we will definitely return

This was a fantastic experience. This restaurant, although not Michelin starred (but the Gallo D’Oro restaurant in Cliff Bay has 2 stars!). The food was a delight with unique flavours and combinations that I had t had before. The staff are incredibly attentive and your wine glass was never empty! We ordered 3 courses, along with a cocktail each and a bottle of red wine during our experience. We had a stunning table overlooking the sea. Sergio, the sommelier was incredible knowledgeable as we had seen some wines and grapes that we had never heard of. Portuguese wines are delicious! We spent around 2 hours in the restaurant, we arrived around 20 mins early for a drink in the bar area as that itself is beautiful but our table was ready. Booking is necessary. Amazing experience. Amazing experience at Avista. We got the 6 course experience menu which was outstanding. To the dish they served the potato bread, which for anyone who has tried it is really good. They had no problems to change the experience menu according to our allergies etc, so you got the dishes perfectly composed for you. The waiters were very friendly and talkative, in a good way. I would recommend this to anyone. They also made sure that the desert had a birthday candle as one in the company had her birthday (was noticed in advance)

This was the best meal by far we had whilst in Madeira. The service was incredible, attentive and funny. We had a delicious meal accompanied with a nice bottle of wine and enjoyed watching the sky colours changes as it set. Absolutely recommend.

The atmosphere was absolutely beautiful – 10/10. Stylish interior with a stunning view of the sea. The food was also excellent – fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. A solid 10/10 for that. Unfortunately, the service significantly affected our experience. Starters arrived fairly quickly, but we had to wait over 30 minutes for our main courses, even though other guests who arrived later were already eating. Throughout the evening, we had the impression that older guests received noticeably more attention than we did. When we wanted to pay, no one came to our table, so we had to go up to the front desk ourselves. The waitress showed us the bill but didn’t even glance at it herself – it felt indifferent and impersonal. We still left a 10% tip, but in hindsight, we would say half of that would have been more appropriate.

Amazing restaurant with a beautiful view on the ocean and Funchal! The food is delicious and the staff is very kind. Especially Rodrigo helped us very good with choosing and serving the food. We had a great time!

This was one of our best dining experiences in Madeira. The food was excellent, the sea cliff view was panoramic and the service was friendly. We tried cocktails as well are we’re not disappointed. Highlights of the meal where the duck magret (my favorite) and the black pork (close second) I highly recommend the croquettes and salmon mojito as well!

Avista was the perfect choice for our last lunch of 2024! From the moment we arrived, the service stood out—our server kindly offered to take my coat, a thoughtful and unique gesture in Madeira. The breathtaking view from the restaurant added an extra layer of magic to the experience, making it truly unforgettable. The food was an absolute delight, with each dish bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. We had a fantastic time and couldn’t have asked for a better way to end the year. Highly recommended!
