Where to Savor the Best Pasta in New Orleans

"Chef Nick Lama’s sophisticated Uptown restaurant, with its gorgeous dining courtyard, pays homage to his Sicilian roots in many artful ways. Avo serves handmade pasta, beautifully composed plates of lasagna rich with short rib ragu, black squid ink mafalda, and bucatini cacio e pepe with jump lump crab. All of the food is special here, but the pasta is beyond dreamy." - Beth D'Addono, Clair Lorell

The Best Italian Restaurants in New Orleans

"There’s nothing Creole Italian about chef Nick Lama’s upscale Avo, which means “grandfather” or “ancestor,” in Italian. The third-generation Sicilian spotlights regional Italian cuisine and ingredients like figs, gorgonzola, Calabrian chilies, and every manner of homemade pasta. The food is gorgeous and informed by passion and allegiance to pristine ingredients. Get the meatballs, get the charred octopus, get yourself to Avo." - Beth D'Addono, Clair Lorell

We may have ordered too many tacos, but they were all devoured. The Green Chile Queso was pleasant in flavor. The El Jefe was my favorite taco, but the Buffalo chicken is a must try. All of the tacos were fantastic.

I was looking online and came across Avo Taco and the menu looked interesting so decided to check it out. It’s part of Port of Orleans brewing so it’s their bar and this restaurant connected together. You sit at your table and you order and pay from your phone and they deliver the food to your table we ordered the dip sampler, the quesadilla and two tacos / one chicken and one brussel sprout. the sampler was just guacamole with different small toppings on top - i thought it was going to be guacamole, pico and corn separately. the guacamole was decent but the chips could’ve been better. the steak quesadilla was big in size and had good flavor. the brussel sprout taco was really excellent with lots of flavor; the chicken taco was decent with lots of chicken overall great bar food to go along having a good time at Port of Orleans

Google
$5 tacos were mighty tasty washed down with a couple Kennerbrau's bra! Taco Tuesday is a little cheaper. Love the panned avocado tacos and the nachos!

Google
Brews and taco what else can you ask for! Love how this little place is inside the port Orleans brewery! The guacamole was a generous amount and fresh to death

Mattlan Ladner

Google
Tacos were decent and interesting flavors and options. Really enjoyed the dole whip beer!

Google
Delicious menu, many different kinds of well done tacos, and their service is quick!

Lack of seasoning.. size portion way too tiny(only one small taco for $8). First time ate a frozen taco too, feels like they just take it out from freezer and forget to microwave it

Google
Overpriced, especially if you order online. This tiny thing of queso is $5 and same size guac is $6. They're both decent, but the last 2 times I've had the queso, it's been watery and not really cheesy. The most shocking thing, though, was this cheese quesadilla. This plain, boring cheese quesadilla is the stuff that you cooked when you were 21 at 3am. Plain tortilla, 1 cheap cheese, NO sides/sauces like salsa or sour cream, and somehow this costs $10. I can't get over this, especially when Barracuda is a <5 min walk away and they have fantastic cheese quesadillas for $4. Don't get me wrong -- I'm not expecting groundbreaking stuff from a cheese quesadilla, but if you charge me $10 for it, it should have some kind of quality. About the tacos: I've had pretty good experiences with Avo Taco's fun and relatively creative tacos. However, the corn tortilla they use is way too thick and plain, which takes from the flavor and quality of the tacos.

Yelp
YALL. NEED. TO. COME. HERE. I LOVE craft beer and this place hits on all notes. The food is phenomenal, the staff is amazing and the beers are all clean, delicious and taste like what they're advertised as. So good that we bought a case to go home. Check out Port Orleans when you can. And come hungry. Avo Taco is the kitchen and they serve a variety of delicious foods that will definitely fill you up!

Yelp
Love that I can bring big groups here and you pay at the table so you dont have to worry about check splitting. The food tasted great and they have a 3 for $12 taco Tuesday.

Yelp
Tacos, beer and trivia! Ordering food is a breeze with the QR code at the table. Food came out fast & servers & bartenders were polite per usual. Arcade games and a spacious taproom/patio equal great vibes.

Yelp
Avo Taco, Tchoupitoulas Street. The family ordered a mess of tacos, street corn, guacamole and chips for delivery. The food came fast, fresh and hot -- Thank You UberEats -- and our favorite tacos were The Carny and The Cowboy. Not life changing, but good, solid Mexican food. Four Stars.

Yelp
Went to Port Orleans Brewing, where Avo Taco is the food option. We're from SoCal and can easily get tacos at home, so we debated between a burger and the chicken sandwich to share. We decided on the chicken sandwich and weren't disappointed. The chicken was very well cooked and crispy with every bite. The fries weren't bad either. They use electronic ordering, which was not as simple as what we'd have liked but overall it was a good experience.

Yelp
Food was wonderful staff and environment were also amazing. Roasted pineapple guacamole and Brussels were top notch

Yelp
I didn't realize AvoTaco was in the same place as Port Orleans Brewing Co. I think it's very smart to combine the 2. Food, drinks, and TVs? It's a win win. The queso was pretty good. It was creamy and thick. The tacos were pretty standard. It wasn't out of this world. The chicken in the El Jefe was dry. The shrimp in the Coco Loco was flavorful. The customer service was nice. People were helpful. I didn't try the beer. However, I tried their peach seltzer. It wasn't the best. It had a weird after taste. The environment was cozy. It's a great place to come with some friends and hang out to watch the game. I would come back, maybe on a Sunday with some friends to hang out.

Yelp
Pulled Pork Taco, Chicken Taco and Steakhouse Beef taco were super fire and their sauces and quantity is amazing. I've came here twice already in less than 3 months and usually I do t do repeats very often unless the food is to die for. I love the flavors and juices on these tacos, if you are a small person or don't eat that much, 2 tacos is great but if you are normal or above then for with 3 tacos and a appetizer or just straight 4 tacos. Everything is delicious and their sauces are very good too. I recommend this place and since inside a brewery, even better to come down with a beer.

Yelp
Neat little place for a quick meal prior to a show at Tipitina's. Order from your table -- quick to serve.
google avatar

Yelp
We met up with friends here and it was our first time. Drinks were fun as they had a lot of neat mixes and flavors. You get your drinks at the counter. Food is ordered by scanning the code at your table of choice. This was ok but we definitely prefer face to face. We had the shrimp taco, quesadilla, kids chicken tacos and fries. Everything was decent tasting. Pet and kid friendly. Ice cream flavors were fresh and unique. The customers made the whole atmosphere here. We had a nice time together in the open outdoor area. The staff could be friendlier in my opinion but maybe they were all having a bad day
google avatar

Troy K.

Yelp
Located inside Port Orleans Brewing. Order using QR code that is exclusive to your table and pay online. They bring it to you. The green chili queso looks ok but it was pretty bland. No spice just tasted like cheese. I had the Juanita taco and the Shrimp Remoulade taco. They had a lot of fancy toppings but mostly all you can taste is the crema or Remoulade. The meat was lost in the toppings and def was not the star. Looked great but just really did not have flavors that lived up to the description and toppings. Simpler would have been better. Not bad but not up to my taco standards. That said. It much close by to eat at. I was going to Tipitina's for a concert and this is in walking distance

Yelp
Great options, including many different tacos and fixings plus queso and guac was delish! Highly suggest anything that included the caramelized pineapple! Great heat on the buffalo soldier and buffalo shrimp as well. Not to mention it's located inside a brewery with wide selection and great atmosphere. Games, music, tv, patio and indoor seating. Service was promoted and friendly.

Yelp
My family and I stumbled upon this place by chance (or was it ). We were going to try out a different restaurant that had great reviews but when we got there, it's out of business but still active on Yelp. Needless to say we were not happy and we were hungry. We saw this establishment and decided to give it a try. The menu was interesting because it had different and unique combinations on tacos. Definitely will come back again for the food and the beer offerings were plentiful.

Yelp
Great wings! Friendly staff, beer has gotten better for Port Orleans. Always a reliable choice. Tacos are fine as well but I usually stick to my tried and true
google avatar

Yelp
Tacos were cold Af as if they had been sitting out for a minute. Chicken taco was flavorless except for the jalapeno. Fish taco with Mahi was good, if only it was warm. Chips & queso were good! And after reading some of the other reviews it seems that this is a normal thing?? That they serve the food cold? Very weird. 2 stars for the brewery atmosphere, pass on the food.
google avatar

Nandi A.

Yelp
Pretty good food, the blackened mahi taco and guacamole were the highlight of the meal. The guacamole and pico de gallo were fresh and tasty. The tortillas aren't charred like they usually are at other places, but they still tasted good. My biggest problem was that the tacos are entirely too small to be $5. The guacamole and pico was moderately priced but you really need 3-4 tacos to get you full because they are so small. Not to mention when we were eating we saw a roach crawling across the floor, I do understand that there is a brewery attached to the building but it's not the most appetizing thing to see while in the midst of eating.

Yelp
As the virus has staged a resurgence of late, I have been on the hunt for more outdoor seating joints. This place had been recommended to me as a better version of the very good barracuda, and I was definitely in the mood for some crazy fusion tacos. I was able to order my food from the table by scanning the QR code, pay for it, and have it delivered to my table all while sitting safely outside. WHATS NOT TO LIKE? You have to order your beer inside (mask required don't be a jerk just wear it) because if you could order from the table the place would be overrun with underage drinkers and then I couldn't sit outside. Tuesday they do a 3 tacos for $11 deal and hell these things are worth their full price (about $4.50). While none of these are traditional street tacos, you'll be glad to know that these innovative combinations are incredibly flavorful and they come on house made corn tortillas that don't get sopping wet. I highly recommend trying several different tacos. I had the Carny, the coconut shrimp, and the beef with shrooms. The coconut shrimp was the most "un taco" taco ever, but it turned out to be my favorite of the terrific selection. I'll be back, repeatedly, the service was great, the food great, the beer great.

Yelp
My husband and I decided to stop in at Port Orleans Brewing Co in Saturday afternoon to try a couple new beers and decided to get some snacks from Avo Taco. This is our second time having Avo and it did not disappoint. We ordered the guacamole and chips and the John Wayne Quesadilla. The guac is super fresh and the chips are perfect... not too thick or thin and perfect for scooping guac. The quesadilla was delish. The pork was moist, BBQ sauce was good and it was on nice thin, toasted tortilla. Super yummy!

Yelp
Was really in the area to check out the attached brewery and was starving. I was starving so I ordered via the mobile ordering that was at each table. Its the quickest Ive ever gotten such delicious food! I was shocked at how good the nachos were since it seemed like it took no time at all to make them but it was a great stop, great nachos and great scene!

Yelp
This place is nestled inside Port Orleans Brewery and not do they pair well together. You can order from your table using QR code and they bring your food over to you when it's ready. Food was ready pretty quickly-I'd say less than 10 minutes and we ordered a lot!! We got the loaded guacamole trio-you get to choose your toppings: we tried the sugared bacon and cotija cheese (yum, salty sweet), shrimp remoulade & corn salsa (super fresh), and carnitas and cotija (nice little serving of meat, tasty)-all were delicious and the guacamole tasted super fresh and homemade. Good portion of fresh tortilla chips. We did the street corn (holy moly this is so freaking good-I could eat lk 6!) and the Brussel sprouts (yummy roasted red pepper coulis, nice and flavorful, savory). For tacos, we got: Buffalo shrimp (only one without a whole lot of meat, there were only 2 shrimp, but they were tasty and lightly fried), Buffalo soldier chicken (yummy, loved the blue cheese sauce), breaded mahi and also blackened mahi (both delicious, not yucky fishy aftertaste), steakhouse beef (lots of beef pieces, and loved the texture of the fried onions on top), and the Juanita steak (lots of beef and truffle-y mushrooms). Overall we had a wonderful experience and will absolutely be back!!

Yelp
To lead - our tacos came out cold. Like the steak was cold. The tortilla was cold. Just bizzare. We asked if this was how they are supposed to come out? Lmao . Negative. Money back at least...Cheese dip tasted like it had italian seasoning in it. The way of ordering - qr code on phone. But you go in to get drinks? It doesnt make sense. The whole place seems like the manager / owner is MIA and doesnt care about their establishment. As a business owner i'd be embarassed about it... The staff was accomodating and friendly. It could be cleaner, but hey its a beer hall. There are way better places in tchop ...skip this one.

Andrew B.

Yelp
Tacos are never served piping hot, but flavors are good. Restaurant atmosphere is good too and kid friendly
google avatar

Gabriel N.

Yelp
They bring the tacos and looks fantastic, after first bite Tortilla was cold. I talk to the guys at the front and explain that Tortilla was cold, they just told me that is the way that tacos come. Are you serious, if you sell tacos the first rule is Tortilla needs to be pretty hot. I feel that just don't have an idea of what they are selling and what's worst the ignorance to have an answer that the way we preserve tortillas. I will never come back again!!!
google avatar

Clint K.

Yelp
Come for the beer & stay for the food! We came for the beer @PortOrleans and we not disappointed, soo many varieties to taste! We stayed for the scrumptious @AvoTaco food!
google avatar

Noe S.

Yelp
Well I learned something new today, apparently they don't heat tortillas up in NOLA but just serve the taco "guts" on a cold tortilla. That's a first for me, I asked my server if this was normal in NOLA and he assured me it was. So here I am educating you all. Cold tortillas are the norm. Other the getting used to the coldness the stuff inside is good so two stars for you.

Yelp
If you're in search of the perfect Taco Tuesday spot, look no further than this hidden gem. This taco joint serves up mouthwatering tacos that will have you coming back week after week. With a variety of fillings, fresh ingredients, and a welcoming atmosphere, it's the ultimate destination for taco lovers. Don't be like me and miss out on the sauces either they have great selection! AVO TACO is located inside of Port Orleans so you get to kill two birds with one stone and check out some local beers.

Yelp
We usually order Avo Taco most times that we're at Port Orleans Brewing. I've had a handful of their tacos and most of their apps. You're able to scan the QR code at the table and place your order through your phone- makes for an easy way to keep tabs separate. Overall, I'd say they're a fairly consistent and are good at what they do. They only qualm I have is that they serve the tortillas cold and they're very thick. Inside the tacos, the flavors are good and the meat is cooked well. They have a good balance of meat/vegetarian options, as well. They have a menu that can appeal to a wide variety of folks. The best way I can describe this place is that I don't seek out because I'm craving it but am satisfied when I get it!
google avatar

Yelp
I'm always happy to see a new taco place. Nice location inside port orleans brewery. I'm a traditional street taco fan. Simple tacos with delicious meat. These are far from traditional. The menu is more modern with bbq sauce on tacos. I enjoyed my tacos at Avo but they aren't better than the competition. Let's start with the shell. I appreciate the use or corn tortillas instead of flour but these seemed manufactured/packaged variety. Thicker texture almost flour tortillas but cracked easily. One taco split down the seem before my first bite. I know not everyone can spend the time hand making tortillas but it does make a difference. The fish taco was probably the best. Fish tacos are not always available at taco places. I appreciate that they have them and they aren't tilapia-they use mahi. The batter was light and the crisp toppings just enough. The carni taco was second best. Pork was not dry like pulled pork can sometimes be. Lastly I got the breakfast taco. Pork, cheesy eggs, and potato. Not a fan of this one. The egg had a consistency of powder eggs at the holiday inn buffet. Same pork as before-not dry- actually kinda greasy. By Potatoes they mean thin fried strings which are just a garnish. $4.50 each taco is a bit steep but that seems the going rate these days outside of more traditional hole in the wall taco joints. 3 tacos comes to $14 without any sides. I'd eat here again, especially if I'm hanging out at port Orleans but it won't be my go to taco spot.
google avatar

Kimberly J.

Yelp
I ordered the steak quesadillas. Not a fan. Lots of Mayo like sauce. Little steak. Some mushrooms and onions. Just overall not my favorite. Wouldn't work again.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food good service. Inside a brewery in Nola thus us a must stop Dog friendly. And a great staff
google avatar

Haley H.

Yelp
The worst part about this place is that it is in Port Orleans, which I will try not to bring into this review!!! (Edited) This review is about the tacos!!!! So. I got the Brussels sprout taco and found it to be .....a lot. It was trying to do too much! In addition to the charred Brussels, there was a huge amount of goopy red pepper sauce and silvered macadamia nuts. My group also got a chicken taco that tasted like fish and it wasn't clear if it was supposed to be cold. That being said, another friend got the Buffalo Soldier taco & loved it. The tortillas were solid and I do like the street style tacos. They are on the pricier end and took longer to come out than other taco places.
google avatar

Sheldon W.

Yelp
This was less than traditional, but good. We like that the app(toast tab) gives you the option to not have toppings or put them on the side. We had the fish and shrimp tacos, chips and queso and French fries. I would recommend this place but clearly not above traditional Tex mex that New Orleans has to offer.

robert s.

Yelp
Last night I ordered 4 tacos and two Brussels sprouts at 5:50pm. I picked them up at 6:05pm. That's pretty quick right? But they were cold. The shrimp, meat and fish. None warm. I called today and their explanation, "maybe they got cold because it took a while to pick up or take home." That doesn't make sense in any crime time line. Ordered 15 min before pick up with a 5 min ride home. Should be warm at worst, but based on the facts, they were prepared cold! When I spoke to the gentleman who answered the phone, he offered to remake them, but then I remembered my last pick up order was also cold (though in all fairness it did take longer to pick them up). Then I thought, "what if, for take out only, they make them cold from existing precooked meats, chicken and fish assuming you won't know, because no one thinks they'll be ready in 10min?" Anyone else have this experience? Everything tasted good but 4 cold tacos for $16 + tax and tip make $21.
google avatar

Chase G.

Yelp
So many choices and nothing disappoints. 6 guacs to choose from, amazing queso, street corn, and like 12 different tacos. They even have wings and burgers! Plus it's inside an amazing brewery. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
Is it Taco Tuesday!? Man today I was so excited to dine in at @avo.taco but it was not one of my favs. They have awesome options here at Avo taco. Today I started with greens chili queso and chips. Fresh chips, pretty good queso. For tacos I had: shrimp remoulade (which had more of a coleslaw taste), the bandito ( pineapple marinated steak) and El Jefe (honey chipotle chicken) You were to seat yourself and order yourself at the table by an app. Which I personally didn't care for, because if I had any questions I would have to go back up to the bar. While ordering off the app, you put in everything at once so your starters and entree come out together. It is located in one of NOLA's beer brewing company's. Downfall is though they do sell margaritas on Mondays but not on Taco Tuesday ‍ what's tacos without a little tequila? And if you do order a beer it's separate. Overall I would rate

Jenelle D.

Yelp
Have ordered takeout here a few times. Tacos are always yummy. Will deff be back just for the rastaman tacos.

Antrielle W.

Yelp
I found this place yesterday on a Yelp search for quesadillas. I ordered the Hawaiian chicken quesadilla to go & I was very impressed! Chicken was tender, flavors was awesome! I do wish that there was a way to keep the food from sweating in the box, maybe adding paper or napkins to the bottom of it... but it was still delicious! I am looking forward to trying a few other things on the menu today

Mimi J.

Yelp
Ordered delivery fish tacos and Brussel sprouts for Cinco deMayo. Excellent food. Would like to go to restaurant to have their food again.
google avatar

Rob B.

Yelp
Stopped by again, still as amazing of an experience. The staff at the brewery was sweet and the food came out fresh and delicious.

Robert M.

Yelp
Food was outstanding. My wife and I shared the chicken quesadilla and steak quesadilla. Our friends had a tray of four different kinds of tacos. None of us could stop talking about how good the food was.
google avatar

Sandra B.

Yelp
So the truffle steak quesadilla blew my mind and I can't stop thinking about it!! Located inside Port Orleans (uh brilliant!), you can get their filling tacos or this amazing quesadilla plus your beers (CHEERS). The other items are just as delish.. I highly recommend them for your beer/taco craving. THeir menu is expansive!

Lowbeam S.

Yelp
I love the tacos, in theory. The selections/combinations are really unique and my favorites are the Californian, The Carny and The Bandito. I've only ever order using uber eats and continued to order but not anymore as I can no longer accept that I am paying for cold food literally every time. Which is tragic because otherwise the food is good, but like I said in theory. I checked the reviews because I thought maybe because I was ordering take out that's the reason the food is always cold but I see others have complained as well. Like how can y'all as a business accept that? I rarely ever leave reviews but after this last order I can no longer support this business if they are openly ok with charging people for cold food.
google avatar

Niloy T.

Yelp
Best tacos in town and I've tried them all here. Try the unique tacos like the buffalo soldier and the coco loco , nice break from the usual. I also tried the john Wayne quesadilla and that was no hyperbole - the best quesadilla I've ever had . Sat on the Port Orleans patio and had some really amazing tacos . This place is going to really get popular soon

Brittany C.

Yelp
Order the Aloha Quesadilla, Green Chili Queso, and chips. The Quesadilla and queso were great!

Thaise A.

Yelp
Place is cool if beer is your thing. Not my first or second choice for tacos. Won't be back.
google avatar

Bella B.

Yelp
Great service and tacos. Love the Wednesday healthcare workers deal! My nurse friends and I approved
google avatar

Brianne S.

Yelp
Food is not good at all. Everyone's food came out cold. Both shrimp tacos were nasty. Steak taco taste like the meat was sitting in gravy. Don't waste your time.
google avatar

Jack M.

Yelp
A lil pricey, the tacos are amazing.Plenty on selection on the menu. Happy that I visited.
