I actually found this place on Instagram and dragged my friend to check it out. This is honestly the first time I went out of my way to buy an avotoast, since I usually make my own, but I was allured by the aesthetics.
PARKING
Allow me to give you this warning: Parking is a pain in the butt around Pacific Heights! We drove around for 25 minutes looking for free street parking, but ended up paying for metered parking. Pacific Heights is where all the rich techies with high-end lifestyles live, so you'll see a bunch of hipsters and yogis walking to their favorite brunch, craft coffee, or boutique spots during lunch or post workout.
INTERIOR
Within this enclave lies Avotoasty-a simply designed health-conscious brunch spot targeted towards Millennials, as inferred by a definition of avocados ("Avocado, a fruit, commonly eaten by Millennials") painted on one of the walls in their shop. I honestly don't understand when Millennials are targeted this way when avocados are available to and eaten by all generations, lol.
Inside the shop were a few tables, a huge bench, and stool seating by the shop window. There is a bathroom available to customers. However, inside the bathroom, there is a door that connects to their storage/meeting room that isn't able to lock from the bathroom side. Thus, there is a chance of getting bombarded while you're on the porcelain throne. I do think the staff knocks to make sure no one is occupying it though. Nevertheless, it gave us anxiety while we did our business.
FOOD
My friend and I both ordered the acai bowl and we shared a veggie toasty. I also ordered a beet latte, attracted to the vibrant magenta color in the pictures I saw. They also have a water dispenser or bottled water for purchase, if you're not in the mood for a latte.
The food comes out on a wooden tray for easy transport.
We tried the acai bowls first, which were topped with granola, coconut flakes, bananas, and strawberries. The granola and coconut flakes definitely slow you down because it requires more chewing, but this is also what makes it filling. Flavor-wise, it tasted great! You really can't go wrong with an acai bowl.
Moving onto the veggie toast, I'm an enthusiast about stacking my pizzas, toast, rice bowls, etc. with different veggies because each vegetable contributes a different element that enhances the dish. While I was distracted with all of the veggies, my friend said she enjoyed the sourdough bread they used. I would say their prices are competitive to other places that sell toast, with some items having a lower or higher price point than others, depending on the ingredients they use. My only complaint would be that their bread is sliced too thin!
Lastly, I tried the beetroot latte, and I personally liked it until I got to the bottom of the cup, where all of the beet sediment laid. Note that their lattes aren't sweetened, and lattes like turmeric or beetroot require an acquired taste. Beetroot is more earthy and deep, but the milk helps to lighten the flavor.
Overall, cute brunch spot! Definitely a gram-worthy establishment. I wouldn't come back to buy more toast (which is a pity because their whole concept is built around avotoast) but for their acai bowls!
