Mobile Bicycle Espresso Bar WAFI Coffee Is Roving LA’s Streets | Eater LA

"Operating as a mobile espresso bar since December 2023, WAFI Coffee was launched by Dennis Garsinii after he moved to Los Angeles; I learned he even rode his 120-pound bicycle outfitted with an espresso machine 15 miles from Santa Monica to East Hollywood — a hard, hour-long, hilly lesson. The roving cart is usually parked in popular pedestrian zones like Westwood Village, Rancho Park, Pan Pacific Park, and Century City (near his home in Beverly Glen), where he pulls espresso shots and pours cold brew. Named for the West African Farmers Initiative that Garsinii co-founded with his college roommate Shane Himmelman in 2020 to train farmers and improve their market access, WAFI sources beans from that West African network and he roasts most of the coffee himself; the current menu features arabica beans from Liberia and Cameroon, with Liberian arabica described as fruit-forward and punchy, almost like eating a mango, while also tasting earthy and woody. After crowdsourcing funding in October 2023 (raising nearly $4,000 of a $7,700 goal), he bought a mobile espresso machine from Espresso Parts and a bike found online, powers the machine with a gas generator for now (planning a battery setup soon), and ensured the mobile setup complies with various municipal rules. Committed to keeping costs down rather than opening a brick-and-mortar so he can pass savings to customers, he plans to start selling beans online in May and emphasizes that WAFI’s business model provides farmers with much greater access to proceeds than the typical 1 percent they receive from a retail cup." - Mona Holmes

Quaint and cozy with excellent service. Very enjoyable sidewalk table experience in the cool of the evening shade. Rich and flavorful cappuccino and a tasty caprese sandwich made for a wonderful first visit. Will be happy to return next time I'm in the area.

I’ve visited Avva Coffee twice now, and I have to say, their coffee has been consistently great both times. I tried their latte on my first visit, and it was smooth and well-balanced—definitely a highlight. This time around, I also grabbed a slice of their blueberry cake. The cake was very good, with a nice flavor, though not the absolute best I’ve ever had. In the immediate area, I’d say Avva Coffee takes the crown for the best coffee, but it doesn’t quite top the best I’ve had elsewhere. Still, it’s a solid spot with a lot to offer, and I’d for sure come back if I’m in the area again!

It’s a charming, cozy café in the middle of Beverly Hills with a well-curated interior. The atmosphere is pleasant, though somewhat impacted by several people sitting alone with laptops for extended periods, occupying tables and taking away from the café’s otherwise lively and welcoming vibe. The matcha lattes were well-prepared, with milk alternatives available. I especially appreciated the thoughtful detail of dried blossoms sprinkled on top. At $8 per matcha, pricing is certainly at the higher end, but somewhat appropriate for the neighborhood. The warm banana bread, featuring a creative twist with melted chocolate, was particularly enjoyable. Service was friendly and professional. A small oversight with the sweetness of the matcha was promptly and courteously corrected after mentioning. One practical drawback is the absence of restrooms. It is a recommendable cafe for a short break, and I would gladly return.

Their online menu is out of date. The staff is very accommodating. Good espresso, slightly sweet. I had them custom make an espresso con panna. Latte was nice.

I hate that coffee shops have the worst hours. They always close early, but I get it. At least Avva closes at 6 PM instead of 2 PM. The coffee and drinks are good here. It's a nice small coffee shop to stop by while walking around Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. I like that they have a baked goods section. The croissants must have been really popular because there weren't many options left in the afternoon. It's really pretty inside with a giant mirror for a menu. They don't have a large trash can, so you have to toss your trash at the counter.

Service is great and the place is super cute. I came here a year ago and the drinks/food were good but lately the coffee tastes burnt and just not big fan but cute if you’re looking for a little place to meet with someone.

Top notch service with great coffee & matcha! They bake all their breads in house as well. A wonderful cafe to visit in Beverly Hills
