Mobile Bicycle Espresso Bar WAFI Coffee Is Roving LA’s Streets | Eater LA

"Operating as a mobile espresso bar since December 2023, WAFI Coffee was launched by Dennis Garsinii after he moved to Los Angeles; I learned he even rode his 120-pound bicycle outfitted with an espresso machine 15 miles from Santa Monica to East Hollywood — a hard, hour-long, hilly lesson. The roving cart is usually parked in popular pedestrian zones like Westwood Village, Rancho Park, Pan Pacific Park, and Century City (near his home in Beverly Glen), where he pulls espresso shots and pours cold brew. Named for the West African Farmers Initiative that Garsinii co-founded with his college roommate Shane Himmelman in 2020 to train farmers and improve their market access, WAFI sources beans from that West African network and he roasts most of the coffee himself; the current menu features arabica beans from Liberia and Cameroon, with Liberian arabica described as fruit-forward and punchy, almost like eating a mango, while also tasting earthy and woody. After crowdsourcing funding in October 2023 (raising nearly $4,000 of a $7,700 goal), he bought a mobile espresso machine from Espresso Parts and a bike found online, powers the machine with a gas generator for now (planning a battery setup soon), and ensured the mobile setup complies with various municipal rules. Committed to keeping costs down rather than opening a brick-and-mortar so he can pass savings to customers, he plans to start selling beans online in May and emphasizes that WAFI’s business model provides farmers with much greater access to proceeds than the typical 1 percent they receive from a retail cup." - Mona Holmes

Quaint and cozy with excellent service. Very enjoyable sidewalk table experience in the cool of the evening shade. Rich and flavorful cappuccino and a tasty caprese sandwich made for a wonderful first visit. Will be happy to return next time I'm in the area.

I’ve visited Avva Coffee twice now, and I have to say, their coffee has been consistently great both times. I tried their latte on my first visit, and it was smooth and well-balanced—definitely a highlight. This time around, I also grabbed a slice of their blueberry cake. The cake was very good, with a nice flavor, though not the absolute best I’ve ever had. In the immediate area, I’d say Avva Coffee takes the crown for the best coffee, but it doesn’t quite top the best I’ve had elsewhere. Still, it’s a solid spot with a lot to offer, and I’d for sure come back if I’m in the area again!

Google
It’s a charming, cozy café in the middle of Beverly Hills with a well-curated interior. The atmosphere is pleasant, though somewhat impacted by several people sitting alone with laptops for extended periods, occupying tables and taking away from the café’s otherwise lively and welcoming vibe. The matcha lattes were well-prepared, with milk alternatives available. I especially appreciated the thoughtful detail of dried blossoms sprinkled on top. At $8 per matcha, pricing is certainly at the higher end, but somewhat appropriate for the neighborhood. The warm banana bread, featuring a creative twist with melted chocolate, was particularly enjoyable. Service was friendly and professional. A small oversight with the sweetness of the matcha was promptly and courteously corrected after mentioning. One practical drawback is the absence of restrooms. It is a recommendable cafe for a short break, and I would gladly return.

Perfect hidden gem. Amazing coffee and wonderful staff. Definitely a good stop for coffee and pastrie.

I hate that coffee shops have the worst hours. They always close early, but I get it. At least Avva closes at 6 PM instead of 2 PM. The coffee and drinks are good here. It's a nice small coffee shop to stop by while walking around Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. I like that they have a baked goods section. The croissants must have been really popular because there weren't many options left in the afternoon. It's really pretty inside with a giant mirror for a menu. They don't have a large trash can, so you have to toss your trash at the counter.

Google
Their online menu is out of date. The staff is very accommodating. Good espresso, slightly sweet. I had them custom make an espresso con panna. Latte was nice.

Google
Coffee is subpar, could be better. Not a lot of parking options and the outlets do not work in case you want to come and do school work or work in general. Although very clean and ambiance is great no amenities to the guest. Strictly a coffee shop with no added perks

Google
Place is very pretty and the pastries are freaking delicious! Just opposite to beverly hills sign and so close to Rodeo drive this is a perfect coffee place for wonderful ambience and tasty pastries and coffee! Must try! Friendly staff and surprisingly the bill was cheaper than i thought

Yelp
What a charming little cafe! I came in looking for a cozy spot to get some work done and was pleasantly surprised to find outlets at every seat--major win. Sadly, no WiFi (why do you tease me like this, Cafe Gods?), so I had to rely on my hotspot. I ordered the shakerato--super solid. Smooth, strong, and just the right amount of froth. I'd give it a solid 8/10. It started to fill up around 10am, but not in a chaotic way--just enough background hum to keep me focused. Overall, it's a great little hideaway if you're cool going offline for a bit. Would I come back? Yes. Would I bring my WiFi next time? Also yes.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this coffee, shop and it ended up being my go to now. Great coffee, lovely workers, and it's such a cute coffee shop!

Yelp
Love this cute cafe. They do a great job with their iced cappuccino's. They have some seating and the service is great. Nice place to check out if you're in the area.

Yelp
I was looking for a new coffee place to try and noticed AVVA across the street from my office. The place exudes a chic European vibe with marbled floors, a lovely chandelier, & grandiose mirrors on the walls. The menu is a bit simplistic, offering pastries, coffee, tea, and light snacks. You won't find overly fancy lattes, but they do make their lemonade fresh daily. The baristas were friendly and greeted me when I came in. My Cortado with oat milk was perfect. The espresso was bold & rich and the oat milk provided a touch of creaminess. The blueberry coffee cake was moist and loaded with blueberries. I could taste a hint of cinnamon, which was a nice touch. I'll be adding this place to my weekly rotating list.

Yelp
I came here today after a while and got an iced cappuccino, and it was very good! Their coffee is strong. It was very busy around 3pm on a Sunday. They do have seating inside and two tables outside.
google avatar

Yelp
Still great coffee but quick update - they no longer have free WiFi :( Worth stopping by for a coffee and snack but not to get some work done.
google avatar

Yelp
Avva is in my top 3 places for croissants in LA for sure. The ham and cheese is my fave! Their shakerato is pretty good too. The location is perfect and close to Rodeo Drive. The ambiance is cute for Sunday brunch or a day date.
google avatar

Yelp
Loved this little cozy coffee shop with a good selection of coffee and tea beverages and pastries. Having my cappuccino with a creative design felt so special! Warm and friendly service.

Yelp
After walking around in the hot sun, I wanted somewhere to sit, grab a cold drink, and just people watch/rest for a bit Luckily got a table here - it's relatively small place, but really nicely decorated/clean The staff is friendly and the drinks are good. Nothing out of this world, but a great place for a pick me up mid day

Yelp
what I ordered | iced matcha latte with oat milk taste | matcha was decent! service | server was nice and the drink came out fast parking | street notes | for some reason none of the outlets worked for me. so that made it tough for me to stay long and do some work there. ambiance was nice here. reminded me a bit of Paris.
google avatar

Yelp
One of the worst matchas I have had and way too overpriced. They also messed up on my order twice (gave me a coffee and then didn't give me oat milk which I paid extra for ). Nice seating though.
google avatar

Amanda N.

Yelp
This is my favorite coffee shop! I come from an hour away so every time I'm in the area I make sure to stop by. In my opinion I would say they have the best and most creamy lattes. Their food items are always great as well. The place itself is so cute and pretty too.

Yelp
This was a random long shot for me while in the area with friends who wanted to drop by another place in the area and it was the most wonderfully pleasant surprise. First off, I needed coffee early in the morning and the double espresso was as perfect as it gets - rich and full flavor and aroma with no sourness or bitterness. The interior is delightfully old-school with tons of warm wood and natural light. Intelligent use of mirrors and windows to make the small space feel open and bigger than it actually is. The pastries were just fantastic. I wasn't even there for food but they had a croissant with strawberry jam that was flaky, buttery, and sweet in such a nice way. All of this was topped by pleasant and prompt service that got me caffeinated, fed, and on my way super quick and efficiently. All around this was a great experience and I plan to make plenty of return visits whenever I'm in the neighborhood.

Yelp
I was craving a delicious coffee with beautiful latte art and I got it here! Such warm, friendly inviting service and probably the best coffee I've ever had in my life! My kids really enjoyed the chocolate croissant too!
google avatar

Yelp
Located close to the world famous Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, this quaint café is great for getting quality coffee and tea drinks, and the pastries also look inviting. We stopped through on a Sunday, which has the added benefit of free parking in the area, assuming you can find a spot. Inside is a very, very high ceiling that allows for lots of natural light, but I couldn't help wonder if they could have stuck in a loft with a spiral staircase for use of space and seating. Nonetheless, the short time we were there, the employees were friendly and professional. Additionally, the vibe was inviting, and the seating was comfortable. We enjoyed our lattes, and I thought their espresso beans had the perfect balance of flavor and taste. Presentations were also excellent. Bravi!

Yelp
I tried their Shakerato & chia seed pudding both were amazing!! The Shakerato is a double shot of espresso shaken with vanilla and topped with an orange peel, it's delicious Highly recommended. The chia seed pudding was fresh and topped with delicious granola and fresh berries! They have plenty of sweet pastry options as well as savory sandwiches. Definitely need to come back for more.

Yelp
Nah, this has to be some of the worst matcha I've ever tasted. Over $8 for a drink and it's a regular portion with barely any flavor at all. I shouldn't have gotten tricked by the way this place looked. Maybe their coffee is good and it's my fault for trying the matcha first. Do yourself a favor and don't get the matcha here, it's literally so bad. Inexcusable for the price. The workers were nice at least and the place is nice and clean.

Yelp
Ordered: Iced Caramel Latte with Oat Milk Pros: Service: The service was great and the employees are kind. 10/10 Location: I love the location and the 3 hour parking structure so close by, 2 minute walk from the entrance. Interior: Very cute interior. I love the aesthetics, very cohesive. Comfortable seating, outlets behind the seating for convenience, the temperature inside is perfect, and I love the music. Cons: Location: I don't recommend sitting outside. I moved from outside to inside, very different experience. Taste/Quality: The coffee is not the best. I had high expectations considering the ratings and because it was the number one coffee spot suggested in the area. It tastes like watered down coffee with a splash of sweetener. I wish there was a bit more flavor, either from the coffee or the caramel. I did drink it all considering I am an hour away with traffic, the $6 for parking, and $8 for the drink. Also, get a straw when you drink from the plastic cups. I drank from the cup and regret doing so. Every time I drank from the cup, the drink would spill from the lid. I am glad I did not stain my clothes and noticed it immediately. *I also didn't order a to go order* I expected to receive a glass Overall: Honestly, I didn't love my drink, which is the main reason why I came to the establishment. However, everything else was great. Not sure if I would come back. - Maybe if I ordered a different drink and drank from a straw, I would have had a different experience.

Yelp
Nice ambiance with a beautiful chandelier. However, overpriced coffee and pastries but it is Beverly Hills we're talking about. My latte with oat milk was a bit dark to my liking. Almond croissant was decent. Chia pudding--don't bother. Not sure what milk they used but little to no flavor, granola did not taste fresh; lacked sweetness. Parking available on the street right in front. Server was nice. Would I go again, probably not.

Yelp
I came here to study with a friend on Veterans Day. When we first got there, the tables were all full, there are about 6 inside and a few outside, but we were lucky and someone left right after we ordered. The service was super friendly and fit the cute vibes of this smaller cafe in Beverly Hills. I got an iced hazelnut latte and a spinach artichoke croissant. They warmed up the croissant for me and it was delicious! I would definitely get the croissant again. Both the latte and the croissant were around $7, I believe. The ice latte was good, but it didn't stand out as much as the croissant had. My friend got an Americano and said it was good. The tables are a bit small, if you have a laptop, ipad, coffee, and food, so my friend and I ended up sitting next to each other at two tables. We did have to pay for parking in a garage that had a rate per hour, so keep that in mind if you stop by and plan on staying for a while. I will be coming back again and have recommended it to many of my friends!

Yelp
I have loved Ava since the first time I saw it. That tiny slice of Europe to which I wanted to bring my friends and family. Imagine my surprise when I had to tell my parents that we need to walk to another establishment to use a bathroom. I doubt that either one of them would want to come back just because of this. Am disappointed.
google avatar

Kamryn G.

Yelp
Staff was really sweet; food is decent but dense, we went later in the day so the food was slightly stale. What I did love was the ambiance; I felt like it's a very upscale environment and reminded me of Europe.

Yelp
Seen this place on social media... What caught my eye?! Was compared to a coffee shop like Milan Italy... Aaaand.... NOPE... lol... If you have been to Italy you will agree that this place doesn't compare to Italy... yes, it has those old antique looking chairs, counters, mirrors, and a chandelier... BUT doesn't not resemble an Italian coffee shop!!... Now, the coffee was TASTY.... (I'm a coffee lover, and I know when I have a good cup)... I can say, whenever I'm around the area, I'm stopping by for a cup and a treat... Everything done right, great tasting coffee and not overwhelming sweet of a crosoint... Parking can be tricky... street parking if you are lucky... park on the red only if getting something to go (don't recommend it, but an option)... or parking structure block away... Service was cool, no real interaction nice ambiance, sit outside, and people watch Definitely coming back,... when you go.... Enjoy!!

Yelp
Such a beautiful spot to sit and sip. Avva is warm and inviting from the start. I did not know what to order, so the barista asked me three questions. Based on my answers, he recommended a Breve Honey Macchiato. I knew it would be amazing but instead it was perfection. The mixture of marble and wood is divine, adding a bit of elegance to my cafe experience. The neo-soul music adds a modern touch to an otherwise traditional atmosphere. Can you tell I love this place? The new owners are planning ways to revamp. I cannot wait to see how they improve this lovely gem.
google avatar

Gor S.

Yelp
This is one of my go-to spots in Beverly Hills. I actually found it by accident. The barista, Nolan makes this coffee shop what it is. I'm a regular at this point and only because of him. He always accommodates my specific orders even when other workers can't or don't know how to, he comes in and says "I got you" to the point where you wanna do something back. I always feel welcomed at the coffee shop as I go eat there as well and he has taken care of me with a smile on his face every time. Little things like this are so much appreciated and make an establishment what it is. Would not be the same without him. He manages the place flawlessly and the Shakerato he makes is perfection. I remember he made me a specific one way back and I still have a picture of it because it was so good. Love this coffee shop, love Nolan. You can't replace genuine care for customers, the coffee just hits different.

Anna G.

Yelp
Dear Yelp Community, First time visiting this month. Friendly staff, and beautiful, but small (no restroom), coffee shop with great Shakerato drink. Enjoy! Continued well wishes. Sincerely, Anna
google avatar

EZE F.

Yelp
First time and was visiting for a couple of days. Service was very friendly, had the Shakerato and it was exceptional. Would definitely recommend to coffee lovers.
google avatar

Lucine C.

Yelp
My favorite quick-stop coffee shop. The coffee is always fresh, the service is quick, and the ambiance is is so aesthetically pleasing. Love it
google avatar

Lucas D.

Yelp
Had the hot chocolate and it was very good with a nice fluffiness to it. There was a heart-shaped design with the cream on top which was a nice detail. Packaging of cup was good with an insulation layer. Open into the evening which is nice as well.
google avatar

Ali K.

Yelp
First time i tried their coffee. Iiked it and the barista Huseyin was very friendly. He informed us everything about their coffees. It was kind of educational. Very nice!

Andrea R.

Yelp
The coffee tasted subpar and so did the matcha. I got a cold foam cold brew and the cold foam has no flavor there was no point in having it on top. There was also a really musty smell. I didn't get the coffee bean smell that you usually get when you enter a coffee shop. I will not be coming back unfortunately because it's a nice spot.

Stefany C.

Yelp
I though they had internet or a bathroom, unfortunately not a place to study , the coffee is alright , the infrastructure is nice though
google avatar

Gonzalo H.

Yelp
Polite. Delicious. Cute & Quaint. This is the way a coffee shop is run properly. Loves it will be back and recommend to all.
google avatar

Amanda T.

Yelp
Avva is my little hidden gem of Beverly. The interior is absolutely gorgeous, every time I sit inside I feel like I'm in a coffee shop in Milan. Their matcha latte is my go-to and their ricotta cake is an absolute must - it is the best cake I've ever had. It's incredibly buttery, somewhat tangy, and when it's warmed, it pairs perfectly with matcha or any coffee. It's a small coffee shop, but I love sitting in the corner to get some work done. This place is my own little coffee shop heaven, I would come here every day if I could.
google avatar

Yelp
DANGEROUS Peruvian seeds waft into my lungs from 10 feet away... There's some strong stuff Nolan will open the Matrix with this next one... His Barista energy is channeling the God Viracocha himself! Pleadians roam here Machiatto w Cream and Honey Heaven baby
google avatar

Briana M.

Yelp
Was looking for a cafe while I was in the area for a client and came across Avva Coffee I ordered their Matcha Latte and Nutella Croissant. Wow when I tell you the Nutella Croissant was so delicious it was one of the best croissant's I've had in my life!! The Matcha Latte was amazing especially the cute little design they do. The service was so great I would definitely come back.
google avatar

Leslie T.

Yelp
Such a cute little coffee shop to grab a cup, meet a friend (or first tinder/hinge/bumble date), or do some work (for a reasonable amount of time). The staff is incredibly friendly, the coffee good, and the pastries are delicious (we had the coffee cake and croissant). Additionally, while we were there, they gave us free samples of the soft serve ice cream, pistachio and mocha -- and it was absolutely delicious and a nice little treat to accompany a hot coffee. I wonder if you could request an affogato with the mocha ice cream (not sure if they rotate flavors) with the mocha ice cream.
google avatar

Anto B.

Yelp
Surprisingly down to earth for a BH coffeehouse. And the coffee is great with a friendly staff.
google avatar

Yelp
They have delicious coffee, really good taste . Pastries and ice cream . They are always friendly and I love stopping by in the morning before work, that gives me extra energy and good vibes

Yelp
Don't know how I'm so LATTE to discovering this cute little European-core cafe in Beverly Hills. @avvacoffee just opened a few months ago at @rodeodrive , and this is definitely MY spot for high quality European-style coffee and studying. They have plenty of comfy indoor seats, tables and outlets, complimentary wi-fi, a super clean bathroom, as well as outdoor tables too! The cherry on the top is definitely their high quality and beautifully crafted traditional coffee drinks (although tbh I'm not a big fan of their matcha), and they also serve freshly baked pastries, which are perfect if you're craving a light breakfast.

Zee J.

Yelp
Stopped by to grab coffee after walking round. Just wanted something to warm me up. The service was great. It was end of the day so they were sold out of pastries. The coffee was ok and the ambiance inside was really cozy and nice.
google avatar

Giselle G.

Yelp
Okay this place is super super cute and cozy!! Very small however, they only have about 5 tables inside and a few outside but honestly if you go a during a not so busy time you'll get a seat! Many people come and go but I decided to study there and was able to do so! Thankfully they have outlets near the tables and super comfy seating!! I loved their matcha!! I will definitely be back!

LAURENCE M.

Yelp
Been hoping to try this for the last few months. Coincidentally was a few doors down today. Tried and loved the cortado. Expertly prepared. Rich coffee. Best I've had in a long time.
google avatar

Tally S.

Yelp
Cute cafe located in Beverly Hills near rodeo drive. I got the vanilla latte it was good, my friend really enjoyed her matcha. It's a cute spot, it's also open until 6 so it could be a good spot to work remotely!

Anne C.

Yelp
I love their customer service and their drinks are amazing. Their latte arts are just wow every time I go there. It could be a bit pricy but I think everywhere in LA is about the same.
google avatar

Kelly N.

Yelp
I thought I might be the first to review this little gem, but no luck! It is a perfect little coffee shop with a French bistro feel. The coffee is excellently prepared (including flat whites) and the chai was delightful. They have some pastries to complete a breakfast that also look good. It's a quiet little spot (or at least early in the morning on holiday) and the baristas are in the know.
