Awafi Mediterranean cuisine (Halal)

Ali is not only super kind but he makes the freshest Mediterranean food I've ever had. He was friendly and patient with me when I ordered and didn't mind my special request. Super friendly and again the lamb gyro 🥙 was the best I've ever had! So happy he is just down the street from me! This will be "my spot" to take anyone who's visiting me! Oh also the fries are out of this world. Thick crinkle cut and REAL! MADE FRESH! 5 STARS FOR EVERYTHING!

As an Arab-American with a picky pallet. It's not that often these days to find an eatery that creates truly authentic and scrumptious plates that reflect to me that good old fashioned back home cooking. And the gentleman that runs Awafi is a great, friendly and hospitable host. A must try for sure !

We come here once in a while cause we live close by and have had such a wonderful experience every time. The guy who makes the food is super nice and always puts so much care into making the food perfect. Meat always cooked perfectly, hummus is silly smooth, rice is so flavorful, everything is fresh and delicious and decently priced. Hope it stays in the area a long time!

This is by far the best lamb gyro I've had. The owner is very nice and makes everything fresh himself. Highly recommend. Oh. And try the baklava. It's delicious. I'd eat here every day if I could.

The aroma of the spices immediately drew me in, and I was not disappointed. I tried their falafel wrap, and it was one of the best I've ever had—crispy on the outside and perfectly fluffy inside, loaded with fresh veggies and a delicious tahini sauce. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making the experience even more enjoyable. I also appreciated the variety on the menu, from savory gyros to refreshing tabbouleh. Each dish is made with high-quality ingredients and bursts with authentic Mediterranean flavors. If you're in the area, definitely stop by this food truck! It's a gem for anyone craving delicious Mediterranean cuisine on the go. I can't wait to return and try more of their offerings!

Houston native, visiting Portland for the second time. Last time we came, we passed by Awafi and didn’t get to try it! This time, we got to chat with Ali, who was very kind and shared that he runs the cart alone, and we finally got to try the kofta and chicken saj. Both were delicious and reflected Iraqi cuisine beautifully. We will be back!

Awafi is a great place to get freshly made and delicious Mediterranean / Middle Eastern cuisine on the street in downtown. Menu has lots of choices. Usually I order a falafel wrap and every time it tastes so fresh that it’s a real pleasure to eat. Owner is a great guy and runs a wonderful food cart. Try it … you will be glad that you did!

Awafi is a source of excellent Mediterranean food. All creations are take-out. Their falafel on salad is exquisitely flavored, nourishing, and filling. The falafel medallions have great crunchy outer crusts. There's even white sauce left over for making at-home gyros. Their baklava is not overly soaked. What really shines about the baklava is the 1/2"-thick layer of finely ground, honey-sweetened pistachio, and the Pistachio sprinkles on top. So. delicious.

Best Falafel in town and the owner is great. A must stop if you are downtown and want to visit a great food cart. Jim Richardson

This cart stands alone just north of PSU, it is not part of a larger pod. I was satisfied by the generous portion gyro, which is one of lower priced sandwich items. The is a walk-by location, parking is very tough. The owner is very nice.

Was here a few weeks ago and had the BEST meal. I chatted a little with the owner, I believe his name is Ali. The owner Ali does everything and runs the entire business. As he was cooking, I was looking at his kitchen/cooking setup. The place is kept extremely organized and clean. He had very clean preparation, used gloves, things were kept in the refrigerator until needed, and all the produce was fresh. The tomatoes were ripe and the lettuce was green and crisp. A lot of middle eastern places I go to have the rice as an afterthought where the rice may be dry or overcooked, but Awafi's rice was soft and fluffy and perfect. The Tzatziki was creamy and garlicky and full of flavor. We ordered a lamb plate and a chicken plate. The lamb was spiced well and delicious, but the real standout was the chicken. Some crispy and soft bits and it went so well with the rice and veggies. Ali gave us a baklava when he heard I was from Hawaii and went out of my way to try them out. The baklava was so good! Soft delicate crispy layers and an intense and sweet center. It all was held together with the gooey sticky sweet topping. You can tell the effort that is put into this business with how good the ingredients and food is. I wish Awafi's was close to where I lived, I'd be going there at least once a week haha.

Got the lamb gyro and fries. Was really good and I'll definitely be back to try everything else. A++

In trying to find good lunch spots in Portland, I stumbled on this find cart off 5th Avenue. I've returned a few times now to sample the different menu items and was pleased with each visit. My fav so far is likely the chicken plate with humus. Well prepared for only a short wait.

The best Greek food I've had here in Portland. They service was so amazing, he was kind and knowledgeable about food allergies. I had even called prior to coming to see what item would be best that is GF and DF and he had it waiting for me when I arrived. My new favorite food cart!

Sweet Jesus that was a good meal!! Got the beef gyro and it was !!! Great price too!! Chatted up the shopkeeper he was a really nice friendly guy, seems like all the locals know him and were waving and yelling hi to him from across the street as they walked by, my mother always told me the best way to find good food is to follow construction workers and local college kids. I think this is the go-to falafel stand for this side of Portland.

Awafi Mediterranean Cuisine was a Godsend for me in the few days I was in Portland back in June. The food was delicious, healthy, well-portioned, and reasonably priced. The owner (may God bless him) was intentional about not using too much oil and assured me that everything on the menu was zabihah. He was incredibly kind and would ask me how I was doing and how I'm enjoying my stay. It was like having a friend away from home. I tried the chicken platter, chicken saj, and beef burger. All were delicious!

Loved the chicken saj! It was prepared quickly and Ali was super nice. I am definitely coming back!!

I never leave reviews but this is some of the BEST FOOD i have ever had in my life. Service great, food is good quality, everything tied together makes this place an amazing cart to eat at.

This is the best Mediterranean food I've ever had in the USA. I thought I didn't like falafel, but Awafi's is NOTHING like the brown mush that normally passes for falafel. Everything is made from scratch daily. The owner takes pride in his cooking (which he learned from his mother as a child growing up in Iraq) and obviously has a passion for it. Try the lentil soup if it's available. The hummus and dolmathes are also fresh and tasty. Haven't tried their meat dishes yet, but I'm sure I will soon.

The service provided by Ali is amazing!!! And yes, the food is even better. Ali makes the food fresh everyday so you know it's tasty, plus he creates these amazing dishes in a very short amount of time. The location is perfect for me as I go to the 24 hour gym right across the street. A good healthy meal before or after the gym is very satisfying. I really recommend this stand.

This place is phenomenal! I always get the lamb gyro with hot sauce and it is the highlight of my week. Their food is fresh and the portions are generous...my gyro runs about 8 bucks before tip and is enormous. I discovered them just a few weeks ago and have been coming regularly ever since!
