On the Grid : Away Hostel

"Are you looking for a place to sleep? Check the Away Hostel. Opened in June 2016, this place is already well known by travelers and locals. The wilder ones that are on a budget would go for the beautiful dorms. Otherwise, you can pick the intimacy option. All rooms and dorms are spacious, comfy and designed on a unique way. You also can go there just for a coffee or enjoy a good lunch." - Ghislain Mirat

Definitely one of the best hostels I've stayed at! Love the decor and vibe. Lots of communal space to relax if you feel like staying in. Great location in Lyon, for trendy shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. Close to several metro. The staff were lovely and helpful and I think this friendly vibe encourages the guest to do the same. My 10-bed shared room was clean and spacious, as were the bathrooms. Not a lot to complain about really! The only negative for me was the airflow in the bedroom. You basically have to choose between windows open with airflow but LOTS of noise, or windows closed with disgustingly hot but quiet room. I had ear plugs so noise wasn't an issue for me but others in the room without them literally demanded to have the windows shut! Disappointing that some people aren't up with the play and don't bring ear plugs to a hostel!! Maybe a fan in the room or complimentary ear plugs could help solve the issue. Otherwise, many thanks!

Great location and modern common areas, easy to work or hang out with coffee. Bathrooms are good for a hostel. Only downside: it gets really hot without AC, and opening the windows means it can get noisy at night. Overall, a solid choice if you don’t mind the peak summer heat.

One of the nicest hostel experiences I've had! It is a lovely set up that doesn't feel too crowded and the common area is cozy enough that you can set up shop with a book and be completely comfortable.

If you are looking for an hostal the structure is fine. If , as i did , you are paying for a single room then be aware you will not get value for money. I room itself was quite fine. Services however are very very poor compared to the price paid cause you get the same service you would get in the hostel. Said so, just little would make the place much better ( 2 glasses in the bathroom together with real soap and shampoo; better cleaning; nicer check in). Finally the location (very nice closeby Hotel de Ville) also means that the spot is quite noisy in the night because of the mayy bars and restaurants nearby.

One of the best hostel i have been. The rooms are very big and clean. There is a good vibe and people is really respectful. Totally recommend it.

A mid hostel that offers standard services. Towels are rentable and rooms are designed for maximum person capacity. Our room had nothing except a ceiling fan and 3 bunk beds. Breakfast was decent and staff was friendly.

This hostel is super cute and comfy, I love how large the rooms are so the bunks are all very far apart. Everything was constantly being cleaned! My only issue was even though everything seemed super clean, I was getting unbearable allergies to the amount of dust in the dorm. Everything else was really great. Fast and good washer/dryer. Great workspaces. Loved the security!!

Met a lot of lovely folks. Unfortunately, my experience lacked pleasantness and comfort. I’ve been to over 10+ hostels and this one has surprised me with its dirt and lack of hygiene. There were fruit flies in the bathroom and showers, which were extremely dirty. The kitchen smelled bad. Besides from the location, this place sold short.
