"Travelers seeking a peaceful and design-forward retreat in vibrant Provincetown will love this 30-key property located in the West End. With serene views over lush emerald-hued marshes and the ocean in the distance, as well as rooms clad in earthy hues and natural textures, AWOL feels like an upscale retreat." - Travel + Leisure Editors

"A quintessential saltbox Cape bed and breakfast, AWOL Provincetown is not. The modern, Scandinavian–style design here prioritizes minimalist lines, clean finishes, and the occasional natural touch, such as super-soft microfiber bedding and straw light fixtures. All the better to frame P-town’s natural surroundings. First-floor rooms come with outdoor hammocks, and second-floor rooms come with outdoor day beds. You’d never know you were just a short bike ride or walk away from all the (often rowdy) action of Commercial Street."

I cannot say enough good things about the hotel property or the staff. Andrew, the GM, is warm, kind, and works so hard. He gives off an incredible energy. The moment we checked in, he set the tone for a wonderful stay. The hotel itself is fantastic. The view of the dunes and marsh is breathtaking. The pool area is beautiful and comfortable. The rooms are clean, comfortable and chic. There is no dresser (saw a review complaining about that), but they provide a luggage rack, cubbies and there is a place to hang your clothes. The AWOL is close enough to Commercial Street that you can walk (or take the FREE bikes provided by the hotel) but far enough away that it's an escape and tranquil. It's also walking/riding distance to the beautiful Herring Cove Beach and the Province Lands Bike Trail (or you can rent an e-bike nearby the hotel and cruise the bike trail without having to work!). Just book the AWOL. You will not regret it.

Amazing amenities, great views, good location but room set-up just didn't work for a 70 year old couple, #1 the staff are amazing trying (successfully) to make everything wonderful. Fire pits with after hours s'mores, heated pool, location adjacent to great tidal inlet all very lovely. #2 The big BUT for us was the room. 2nd floor suboptimal since the patio was hard to sit on-kind of a platform with pillows overlooking the view-nice but a tiny table so hard to eat, etc. Our bed is literally on a low floor platform so very hard to get DOWN to the bed. No end/side tables and a tiny table with the adjacent couch. Impossible to really have a meal like lunch. Both bed/couch comfortable but I wanted more space to put my computer and no place for my clothes. It reeks "artsy and cute" but not functional. No dresser, just hooks and a tiny not accessible closet. Bathroom so small you need to close door to sit...I should mention breakfast super pleasant but if it rains, which is did for one of three days, the seating is outdoors so WET seating. Maybe if you had a lower room, you would have a larger patio table to sit on but your seats would still be wet. I wanted to love and support them but it didn't work for us.

This hotel offers a tranquil setting with spectacular view yet so close to the action. A short walk and we were at a great restaurant. Walking a little further, we were in the middle of town at the pier and heading by ferry into Boston for the day. The ferry ride was great too, with a whale sighting along the way.

I loved this place! The rooms were very tranquil and super comfortable. The view of the marsh and ocean was really pretty from our balcony. The fire pits were a great way to end each night. Perfect spot if you are looking for quiet and laid back, yet close enough to town to walk for all the excitement P-Town has to offer.

Really a bummer for the price point; thought we were treating ourselves by getting a king room that promised a patio with marsh views, only to have fallen short of luck and got one at ground-level right in front of the parking lot, with lots of foot traffic and little privacy. I can see how this place would be nice and worth the price for one of the balcony rooms, or even a patio closer to the pool, but there’s no way to ensure you get one of those when booking. Tried to swap rooms, they said no-can-do. Sunk cost. At least the pool is nice and Provincetown in general is great, but definitely disappointed by the experience here.

AWOL is an absolutely perfect little P-Town get away! The amenities were fantastic, including nitro brew coffee, and an elaborate breakfast bar. The whole ambiance is beautiful and extremely well thought through. So many wonderful little touches, down to the body wash in the shower which was heavenly. They had bikes to rent, a stunning pool, adorable little patio set ups and fire places. It’s very clear they put a lot of love into this place. The location is perfect because you’re close to everything yet off the beaten path. You walk out your door to beautiful dunes and view of the bag. The service was so helpful and friendly, even gave us a great pizza place recommendation. My only qualm was the bed setups. They’re on a raised floor, without a bed frame. Which is very stylish and chic, just not that easiest to maneuver. My mother joined me on this trip and found it challenging getting in and out of bed. The rooms are fairly small, which is fine if you don’t plan to spend a lot of time indoors, but just something to be aware of. But overall an absolutely fantastic stay and experience and we will certainly be back!

Google
An amazing spot for a weekend getaway. Beautiful view, comfortable beds and cozy fire pits. We used the complementary bikes to visit the nearby beach and for the short ride into town. The staff was so friendly and accommodating and there is a delightful breakfast with delicious coffee! So many cute and thoughtful touches all over the property.

Google
The rooms with the balconies are extremely nice and the beds are so comfortable. Was not expecting the complimentary smores by the fire at night or breakfast bar in the morning. What a nice touch! Had an amazing off season weekend here and looking forward to coming back in season! Awesome views and amazing staff. You have to stay here.

Yelp
We have been to this hotel three times now. Very close to Race Point Beach and relatively close to Downtown Provincetown. The decor is West Coast Surf style. The structure is very modern contemporary. There is a heated outdoor pool which is nice in the late spring and early fall. The television and cable system has the capacity to watch your Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime. The hotel manager that greeted us and signed us in was mannerly and cordial. There was a variety of drinks served from coffee, tea, beer, etc The guests are quite and laid back. The rooms are close together but guests are courteous. I did a lot of writing and reading during my stay. Overall one of my favorite stays in all 6 New England states.

Yelp
Just spent a week here and totally loved it. Ladies and gentlemen, fiends beyond the binary, Provincetown is one of the most expensive places in the whole world in the summer . It just is. You are at the absolute end of the Cape. Don't knock them for the prices because you knew the price going in, and, The Ptown Inn is like 50 yards down the road and it is way cheaper. I loved my time here and my room was gorgeous and there was free sparking water on tap!!!

Yelp
Surpassed expectations on all fronts. The staff were incredible. Highly recommend The AWOL.

Yelp
Love the experience and the view. But not sure I'll be staying here again because there is virtually no lighting inside the unit I stayed in. it's nearly impossible to see. Couldn't see anything inside my luggage or on the shelf provided; without using a flashlight . The dim lighting creates a romantic aesthetic but seriously ridiculous if you need to see at night. I couldn't even shave properly. Frustrating. Hope this helps.

Yelp
Solid offering for the mid week pricing. A dolled up older hotel/motel with. Funky vibe and a different Cape Cod motel experience.....probably more targeted at people younger than say mid 50s with the low platform beds and minimal furniture etc. but the location is outstanding, beautiful view of the salt marshes and the open bay in the distance. 1.5 mile walk to downtown commercial street and only a couple mins from the beach. Breakfast was consistently good, continental, bagels, muffins, yogurt with fresh berries, granola etc. Fire pits are on. Timer each night and before 8pm s'mores fixings are available. I can understand the criticism of the staff being gone at 8pm as that could be challenging depending on the mix of guests and if you have some bad apples, no one is there to keep them in line. Pool area was clean and comfortable. Is it worth $500-700/night.....well the market is the market.....so......

Yelp
My fiancé and I were supposed to get married October 24th, 2020, but due to COVID-19, we had to postpone. We wanted to do something special for the weekend and were playing around with some locations and decided on P-town for a relaxing getaway. We went for the king with the private balcony and loved the space and although small, it was perfect with the private balcony overlooking the moors. If/when we return, we'll get the king deluxe or the Larks Suite. Karen was running the show flawlessly. She is a one woman show, with the exception of two housekeepers, and she absolutely crushes it; she does all the breakfast preparation, front desk protocol, etc. and all of it with a big smile on her face and she's always ready to chat! We love the nitro coffee on tap, the lovely ambience with the fire pits and sultry music playing, and the proximity to Commercial St. We highly recommend AWOL in P-town :)

Yelp
Spent a fall weekend here recently. Good value for Covid and off season schedule. We loved the outside. Great patios, chairs and fire pits, the pool was still open and we actually enjoyed some sun by the pool for an hour one day. Other good amenities included coffee, tea, filtered water In The lobby. The shower and included toiletries were nice. Parking was easy. The views were fantastic. 4 stars for a couple of reasons. 1 ) the AC didn't work because they had switched over the heat for the season so we had to keep our window open to cool off the room. Sounds crazy in October but our room was quite warm, about 76 at night. 2) that meant we could hear everything in the patio at night and in the morning. Including people outside until 2a our first night and the same people somehow up and out in their 2nd floor patio at 630a one of the days. 3) if you have a first floor room, you can hear everything above you. Walking, talking, and even the shower hitting the floor. I would stay here again but not at full price!

Yelp
The good: Clean and well maintained property. Nice outdoor area with pool, firepit in the evening, and chair to sit in and relax during the day, Staff is very friendly and helpful. They offer free bikes to rent for the day. The bad: Rooms are very different than what is pictured on the website. On the website, the rooms look big, bright, luxurious, with a private patio (first floor rooms). In reality the room is tiny, quiet dark, bed is a mattress on a deck. There is a sofa outside the room but its right on the main outdoor area where everyone walks. No privacy what so ever.

Yelp
I love love love this hotel it's adorable! It's by far my fave in PTown. The rooms are so well decorated... especially the suite.... it's gorgeous! It's all very clean too. And the staff here are AMAZING! The housekeepers are wonderful and so friendly. And Ryan at the front desk is the best! I lost my favorite pair of sunglasses and I called. They'd found them and Ryan is sending them to me! Now that's customer service! You're a class act AWOL Hotel... we cant wait to come back!

Yelp
Beautiful getaway in one of the loveliest towns! We had such a wonderful time and I can't rave enough about how friendly the staff was and how clean the rooms were. The beds were so comfortable, the bathrooms are beautiful, we LOVED the beverages on tap- such a nice touch- the bikes were so fun - I could go on and on. We will definitely be back, hopefully every year! Thank you AWOL for everything! 10/10

Yelp
We echo EVERYTHING that the 1-2 Star reviewers have shared on Hotels.com (our booking site). So, there is no need to regurgitate the numerous negatives already stated. We stayed one Friday night in mid-October 2022, in a simple, quite small, first-floor room, which ended up being THE most expensive, and the worst room in which we stayed during our eight-night leaf-peeping tour through NH, VT, ME, and MA! Yikes! Considering all of its failings, the entry-level room was, perhaps, worth $150-$175/night; but most assuredly not the $497 we paid! Sadly, after complaining between ourselves, we decided the joke (or insult) was on us. Hopefully, Lark Hotels will figure it out, as the poorly renovated, old, motel this not-so-much-like-a-phoenix property arose from needs a bit more help with the details to make it anywhere close to worthy of the "price tag". No doubt there will be a retort from management, as with all of the other comments shared. It will be nice if they take comments to heart, however, rather than making snide excuses! We will go out of our way NEVER stay at another Lark Hotels property. Credit where credit is due....and vice-versa! But, know that word-of-mouth travels fast and far.

Yelp
I stayed at AWOL in the first week of June 2021! While beautiful, the room itself is very minimalistic. I get that that's the "vibe" of the inn, but it really was lacking. The room was supposedly "handicapped accessible", but I can tell you that it absolutely is not. I had about 4 feet of space to move around in my wheelchair. I could not fit into the bathroom without scraping against the walls, the lip in the entry door was so high that I couldn't get my chair over it without my friend pushing behind me with full force (you should know, my chair is electric, not manual). I got stuck in the gravel walkway on my way to the lobby and almost couldn't get out. I probably won't be staying here again. It's a really nice hotel, but definitely not accessible in any way, shape or form.

Eric V.

Yelp
AWOL hotel is very cozy. The room is well designed and comfortable. The hotel is closely located to the Herring Cove beach. It is about a 20 minute walk into town. The hotel has 10 bikes that they loan to guests. Herring cove beach is a 5 min bike ride, race Point Beach is a 30 min bike ride and town is about a 5/10 min bike ride. The breakfast is very small so don't count on it filling you up but it will hold you over until you get some food. We were very happy with our stay here.

Carrianne C.

Yelp
Loved my recent stay here. You can read about all the amenities on the website (free nitro coffee, breakfast, bike rentals, etc), but a couple of things really stood out for me: - Fire pits - these get turned on every night, and they offer supplies to make your own s'mores. Do this, at least one night of your stay. There's always interesting people to talk to in PTown, and AWOL is no different. So watch the sunset (AWOL is situated perfectly for sunset and sunrise) while meeting some new people. - Bike rentals - again, take advantage. Herring cove and race point are only 10-20 min bike ride away, and the bike paths are paved and easy to ride on. - They have all the beach amenities you need - backpack beach chairs, a beach bag, beach towels, you name it. - Salt water pool - Free nitro coffee on tap (along with seltzer, hot coffee, and water) The staff are also SO friendly. A housekeeper picked up my towel by mistake (I brought a Turkish towel, and they provide Turkish towels), and the staff were super helpful in trying to figure out how to get it back. I never did get it back... But they were really friendly and accessible throughout the process! It felt a little expensive when I booked the hotel but you really get a lot of amenities here, plus a GREAT view. I would definitely stay here again!

Yelp
I will start by saying that Karen is the absolute best and most helpful hotel employee I have encountered. She is really, really good at her job. This hotel is great! Great amenities, great view. We personally feel they did a great job at COVID-19 precautions and measures to keep everyone safe. The rooms are small but cozy and comfortable. We look forward to returning soon!

Jack W.

Yelp
I've never left a review before, but had to note how wonderful Karen at AWOL Hotel was. She was both accommodating to our requests and always friendly and helpful. Her hotel is beautiful with the highlights definitely sunsets by the fire with the amazingly perfect accompanying music selection. This was our first time to Ptown and we loved it and would absolutely recommend it to anyone considering a visit :)

Bob K.

Yelp
Second year at AWOL. We had a great time and felt completely safe with the COVID19 plan that the AWOL team have implemented. The view, hospitality, nightly fires, and delicious brown bag breakfast will ensure return trips. This experience should not be passed over.

Charlene J.

Yelp
Aside from this property being aesthetically pleasing, it is run by the kindest, most accommodating couple. The breakfasts are inventive and the vibe is nice. The beds are extremely comfortable, and the linens are to die for. Would HIGHLY recommend.

Heather W.

Yelp
Everyone we met, from front desk to housekeeping, were amazing. We felt like a guest in their home instead of a customer. The room was small but very clean, comfortable & nicely decorated. The breakfast was amazing. We were right over the office and could smell the fresh pastries every morning. Free beverages (coffee, tea, water, sparking water, etc) are available at the lobby 24hrs/day which is wonderful on hot beach days. We loved the pool and the fire pits were a nice touch at night. Provincetown is typically so busy & hectic but this hotel is a quiet oasis. Wonderful hotel with wonder staff!

Yelp
If you are thinking about booking a room at AWOL, rule #1 is to ignore their online photos. Most of these photos show the apartment suite on the upper floor. Our room consisted of mattress placed on a barely-off-the-floor platform. No night tables. A small closet to place clothes. If you want to hang clothes, there is a foot-long pole jutting out of the wall with metal hangers for you. A dorm fridge is placed under the mounted big screen TV. Our fridge wasn't dusted during our three day stay. There is a small L-shaped sitting area next to the bed as well as a balcony with no chairs, but a large square padded platform overlooking the grassy marshes. The bathroom is small but decorated in very dark tiles & wallpaper. A weird wood block pendant light to the side of the sink is hung too low. I guess it's sole purpose is to be a night light...? The breakfast in the reception area was very sad. Yogurt, mini-quiches and scorched croissants. There is a tiny pool area and a few fire pits along the front of the property. They also have a "noise curfew" of 10pm which is nice. One of the employees described AWOL as "modern bohemian". I'm guessing that means bohemians now enjoy overpaying for subpar accommodations. This place needs to be more honest about its property and also needs to try harder with its service. This felt like a hostel in every way. Hostels don't charge nearly $300/night. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Scott P.

Yelp
This was my first chance to sample the remake of what had been a tired old Provincetown motel with a great view. AWOL is outstanding. Very careful thought was out into every element: huge beds, wonderful linens, robes for the mornings, rain showers, mini-sitting rooms looking through picture windows at the marsh, little fire pits outside, curated canned adult beverages ranging from bloody marys to sparkling wine to beer and cider, 24-hour hot coffee and iced tea on tap, a great breakfast array with hard boiled eggs, yoghurt, fruits, spreads of every conceivable variety, bikes and helmets yours for the borrowing (after the damage waiver), blankets for chilly nights at the firepit, outdoor showers, a nice pool, quality soap/shampoo/bathroom product, and a sandy "beach" constantly raked smooth. The staff was friendly, patient, and efficient. The location on the far west remains amazing as it has always been: a view over the marsh with its light that varies throughout the day but is most magnificent at dawn and dusk. It is peaceful and quiet, but an easy pedicab, walk, shuttlebus, or bike ride the mile to the town center. Also a bonus: no minimum stay. I was there a single night. Quibbles: not the cheapest lodgings in town; no bike rack for travelers' personal bikes; the clerk wasn't sure of the shuttlebus schedule (and explained it incorrectly to the guest checking in in front of me); the rooms are not huge (though the space is nicely used); a little more lighting in the antechamber to the bathroom would be nice. Overall, however, I would absolutely recommend this spot.

Joseph D.

Yelp
We planned a trip to Provincetown last minute for carnival and we scared of the options of places to stay until we came across AWOL. this newly renovated hotel is clean, well designed and the staff couldn't be nicer. The view just outside our room is breathtaking. I would really recommend anyone to stay here

Cindy B.

Yelp
NOTE: Reviews prior to June 2018 are for "Inn at the Moors", the previous name/owner. Stayed at AWOL in September for our annual trip. The low bed on a raised platform is nearly impossible to get out of especially if you have a bad back. The TV is too low on the wall. The best place to watch it is from the foot of the cruel bed or one corner of the couch. No dresser (shelves in closet), no chairs, no refrigerator in upper balcony rooms (you can request one though). The sofa is merely cushioning on boards that have a tendency to slide. The one table is about the size of a cake plate. Not feasible if you want to dine in or do some work. Forced to do both literally from your lap. Bring a flashlight if you want good lighting after the sun goes down or want to read a book. The oversized cushioned platform on the deck is just as uncomfortable and awkward as the bed. We finally went out and bought some chairs to sit in. Twice we received soiled washcloths. Previous location had one designated parking spot right outside of each room. Almost half of the parking is now gone, so its first come, first serve. They advertise smoke-free property, but one guest was smoking in the fire pit area, another was smoking what smelled like marijuana on an upstairs balcony, two employees enjoyed several smoke breaks in the upper parking area, throwing their butts into the shrubs. Way over-priced. Three days into our trip, we booked next year's stay at a different inn.
