"The newest pick on this list is a barbecue-slash-American-classics spot that aims to serve favorites from around the country, like Reuben sandwiches, Frito pie, and some real deal barbecue. Meaty favorites like St. Louis-style ribs, jerk chicken, pulled pork and brisket are all a good call at this counter-service spot that’s family-friendly." - Tanya Edwards

We had a good experience overall. Wasn't a concert or game night so, slow in the area which let us explore without havoc. It was a bit confusing how they do things here when you order "to stay" but we thoroughly enjoyed the ribs and burnt ends. The BBQ they use is sweet and savory! Soo yummy The potato salad was pretty good if you love pickles. The fried pickles are the best around. Beans and Mac were ok.

I had a great experience! I ordered the pulled chicken platter with Cajun sweet potato fries, corn bread, and Mac and cheese. The portions were huge (I had a lot of leftovers) and the pulled chicken was very high quality, not fatty or greasy. I tried a few of the six BBQ sauces they have, but the chicken already had sauce and flavor how it came. Everything was great... The Cajun spice on the fries was a nice touch and the corn bread was a stand-out as well. Very friendly team. Will be back!!

Great choice before the AC DC concert at Gillette Stadium!! Food was amazing and we were surprised at how quickly we got in and out!!

Google
This is the absolute worst food I have ever had in my entire life. No exaggeration! The baked beans literally look like CHILLI! The Mac & cheese was unexplainable, just disgusting. The brisket had an unbearable taste! I literally almost threw up trying this food. The presentation of the food was horrible, i literally knew I wasn’t going to like it, but I still tried it. It’s like I was served animal food honestly. There’s no way this is considered a bbq restaurant, yuck!

Google
Should have listened to the previous rating but I love to give places a fair shot. Red Robin would've seemed like Michelin Star compared to the gross stuff they served me. Pulled pork, dryer than a nun..... Street corn, nasty. Hot dog, incinerated. Buffalo wings, saw dust with sauce. $65 for garage

Google
This a good BBQ joint. The food is all great. Everything seems fresh. They have a very good varity of food, as well including beef, pork, chicken, chips, fries. We had the pulled pork sandwich and the pulled chicken sandwiches which were very good (Chicken might have been slightly better). Another table had the burnt ends which looked very good and are next on my list to try. Was back again and the chili which was not that impressive. It was southwest style and had a strong cumin. I didn't care very much for it, but I am not a huge cumin fan.

Google
Super tasty burnt ends and sweet potato fries. Mac and cheese left something to be desired. We received our food quickly, and the service was great! Very clean location, and I loved the aesthetic! Would absolutely come back!

Google
HORRIBLE BBQ! We visited Axel and Byrne on a Friday night while visiting Patriot Place on 3/28. My ribs were dried out, crunchy and greasy…just disgusting. Worst ribs I have ever had! I felt as though they were cooked the day before. I was with a group of people and I was responsible for choosing where we ate. I was extremely embarrassed. My son got the burger and threw it away. The pulled pork was dry and salty. The Brisket was dry. EVERYTHING WAS COLD! Please, stay away from this place. I should have known better when we walked into a completely empty restaurant on a Friday night. Let it be known that the staff was extremely polite and welcoming. Poor food quality is a management issue!

Yelp
Food and Drink: I had the brisket and baked beans with fries and cornbread and washed it all down with a margarita. I really enjoyed my food and I didn't need a knife to cut it. A plastic fork was more than adequate to do the job. Truly one of the best margaritas I've ever had. My compliments to the creator! Great flavor, great value, and great quality. ... 8/10 ... Service: I had a chance to talk with the owner! Yes, he was there checking on us and asking for feedback! Admittedly, they are still ironing out some things behind the scenes, but the personal attention we received, pleasent conversation, and a personal family history along with a touching homage to his grandparents (Axel and Byrne, depicted in the really cool wall art as you walk in), was truly inspiring. The servers at the counter were welcoming and kind. ... 10/10 ... Ambiance: This is a true locally owned business with real history depicted in the wall art. They even used a local to do the chalk menu board (yep, my family and I even noticed that nice touch). I felt at home there and spent much of my time noticing the fine details as I was once a manager in the food, customer service, and retail industries. I am a stickler for service. Will we go back? Heck yes!! ... 9/10 ... Sadly, I'm not the type who takes photos of my food, but it was a good looking meal. Overall Score: ... 9/10 ... Recommendations: More BBQ sauce options.

Yelp
I generally enjoyed my visit here but some of the other comments about the meat being tough and lukewarm make sense now. The fries and cornbread were good. Mac and cheese was decent but had a little bit of a strange flavor. Overall this is about the best you get for bbq in the area unfortunately.

Yelp
Nice spot however, Very Disappointing... I Expected more flavor... and not Man n Cheese out of a Kraft Box Spent $27 (not including tip) Ordered a Combo plate w the St Louis Ribs and Jerk Chicken w the Mac n Cheese and potato salad. $23 And a small soda cost $3 Ribs were a bit on the tougher side and could have used some more seasoning or sauce The "Jerk Chicken" was dry and VERY BLAND! No Sauce on it, no flavor. Jerk chicken is suppose to have a spicy kick and usually a little saucy. Didn't taste seasoned or any salt on it, even lacked the bbq taste to it, smh.... This was a waste of chicken. Mac n cheese tasted like it belonged w kids meal, literally tasted like the Kraft box brand. The potato salad however was delicious. Only part of the meal that was worth it. Note they do have a little section w different "sauces" but sauces w really watered down and lacked flavor as well. I really wanted to like this place, I'd strongly suggest making some changes to the flavors and switching that box Mac n cheese to a a real baked Mac n cheese

Jenny C.

Yelp
This place was disappointing. Ribs were super tough to eat, the brisket was mid and they're charging $5 for Kraft mac and cheese

Amanda L.

Yelp
Perfectly crispy meal! We got their onion rings, chili wings, salt & stone spicy chicken sandwich and brisket quesadillas. Couldn't even pick which was our favorite ! Everything was delicious.

Yelp
Axel & Byrne opened at Patriot Place this week, which is a modern casual BBQ restaurant with order at the counter service and pickup. There are tables (self seating), sauces/condiments station, self serve fountain drinks, and flat screen TVs in the dining area. The gameday menu offers several appetizers, salads, BBQ smoked meats (pulled pork, pulled chicken, brisket, baby back ribs) sandwiches & platters, grilled cheese sandwich, and burgers. I ordered the Pulled Pork Platter ($17 plus tax) which includes choice of two sides and cornbread. The food was hot and ready at the pickup counter in under 5 minutes. The portion of food was generous with a big mound of tender smoked pulled pork, cheesy Mac & cheese, and a creamy potato salad with hard boiled egg pieces in the mix. The cornbread was crumbly and not too sweet. I dispensed some St. Louis and House BBQ sauces (sweet & smoky) and they also have a spicy BBQ sauce too. Overall, this is a good place to stop for BBQ before or after the game and concerts.

Yelp
A solid barbecue option in an underwhelming complex for food, Axel & Byrne is a new(ish) barbecue restaurant in Patriot Place, by the Gillette Stadium. A local, I've eaten there three times and it's consistently good, with friendly staff. It's good for takeout or sitdown in a no-frills dining room. Patriot Place is a weird location - because of the football games and concerts that bring in lots of one-time eaters, restaurants there don't really have to try, and most just... don't try. So many food places sound good, with wonderful menus, but turn out to be deeply meh or outright inedible. It's been a nice change that Axel & Byrne is actually good food, every time. I really like their burnt ends platter, and the homemade vinegary Carolina sauce. I ended up stealing fries from my friend's plate and dipping them in the Carolina sauce, and mmmmmmm. So good.

Yelp
First time here. Had a nice street corn salad and got a chili to go. But I couldn't believe what they charged me for a beer. A Whalers Rise beer. $12.00!!!!! I drink this beer on a regular basis and have never paid more than $8 or 9 dollars, Even at a high end restaurant in Boston. I asked the manager why she charged so much. She didn't know. She said that's just what they charge. She said maybe they might sell it cheaper somewhere else. I agreed. It's sold cheaper everywhere else, and that's where I'll go.

Yelp
Not a big fan of, ran out of a lot of things on the menu and do not care for the ordering from the counter and thugs coming in plastic containers when you are sitting in to eat . The food was soso . Just not for me

Ann L.

Yelp
Unusual cocktails but don't be fooled by ingredients. They are good. Lots of gen z,s but service was good. Pricey and no food

George D.

Yelp
This is really a mixed bag. The St. Louis Ribs were nicely done, properly cooked without being overdone. The pulled pork was tasty and moist, but had a fair amount of fat strands mixed in. The Burnt Ends were awful, made from pork belly and nowhere close to being rendered. Literally half of the portion was flabby, partially cooked, inedible fat. Once you threw half the piece away (the fat half), it was good, but that level of fat is unacceptable. Decent corn bread, very good baked beans, good coleslaw, poor potato salad. Overall a mixed bag. Probably what you should expect for mall food, but at least on the barbecue side, there are better options in the region. Might be worth it if you're already there and the other food places in the mall are full. Not worth a special trip, though.

Yelp
They need to shut their doors permanently. The food was not edible. Do not go there!!

Heidi N.

Yelp
We loved our experience. The food was great, the margaritas were excellent (seriously so good), and the staff was helpful and kind. When asked about our critiques/feedback we shared that the cornbread was not our favorite and the feedback was met with grace and acknowledgement that it probably could have been better. We've lived in MA for 6 years and have yet to find the BBQ flavors of the south, Axel & Byrne will be our go to! Not to mention a great conversation with the owner and learning about his local connections and his passion for family. The BBQ itself was moist and flavorful with a solid BBQ sauce. Thanks for the great meal!

Yelp
Went here the week they opened. Left an honest review on their Facebook page only for them to take it down (posted below) I think it's absurd they can't take criticism especially since the brisket they gave me (As attached) was terrible especially for a place that calls itself a BBQ restaurant. I messaged them after and all they did was ignore me. Everyone has their own experiences at restaurants and mine isn't representative of everyones. I just wish they allowed people to speak freely about their experiences and not silence them.

Yelp
Do not order from here!!! I ordered dinner and went to pick it up to find the restaurant closed on a night that it was supposed to be open. I assumed my card would not be charged, but of course it was. I called 3 times to get this cleared up with no return call. I left my name and number for Alexis the manager to call back. A week later with no response.

Jesse H.

Yelp
The service was mediocre with attempts of friendly. It looked to be out of place in the areas but smelled good from outside. Unfortunately, from all the food we, six of us, ordered, the Coleslaw was the best thing as seemed the freshest. We order sausage, ribs, burnt end sandwich and brisket with sides of cole slaw, Mac & cheese, fries and cornbread. We all agreed the meats tasted and felt day old. My brisket was warm on one side test cool on the other which further led me to believe it was not fresh. The sides were nothing special but for the coleslaw which seemed freshly made. Lesson, dorm look for BBQ in New England if you better.

Sara P.

Yelp
Great bbq that is ready in minutes. Drinks are good all around a good place to get a bite

Shauna F.

Yelp
I was looking forward to eating at this restaurant since they opened. Food is ok at best. I had the pulled pork platter. The pulled pork lacked flavor. For my sides I ordered the Mac and cheese and Cole slaw, both were again just average. I ordered the house margarita and it was so sweet and tasted like there was no alcohol in it. Some positives were the BBQ sauce that had great flavor and varieties.

Zack S.

Yelp
The price of food is what you would expect at a good sit down BBQ restaurant but as not nearly the quality the price suggests. Staff was friendly and helpful!

Gary G.

Yelp
The burnt end sandwich was really good with giant chunks and a healthy portion. The ribs were tender and tasty and fell right off the bone. Sides: homemade chips were spot on, corn bread was solid, and coleslaw was typical. The mac n cheese needed a lot of work which is why the store received only 4 stars. The cheese was gritty and it separated. The taste was not good. They need a major improvement on this side dish. Overall, food is good, but stay away from the mac

Dana S.

Yelp
Not great. Not too good, either. The brisket was extremely fatty and the premade salad tasted like it was premade. Prices are high for what you get.

Joe B.

Yelp
Had lunch here yesterday with daughter. We both got salads which were a large portion and were very good. We also got the chicken wings with red chili sauce, they were very tasty. The cashier was very nice as were the other employees there. Would definitely return. A great place to grab something quick for take out or to eat there.
