Highlights

From the creators and curators of Urban Light Studios comes a second venture into a multi-use creative space, preserving the former Elliott Bay Book Co. and turning the 128-year-old, 10,000-square-foot space into an "axis" point for history, art, culture, photography, and events. Opening July 2013 in the heart of Pioneer Square, owners and Northwest natives Kevin and Julie Law introduce AXIS Pioneer Square. Special Event Venue, Art Gallery & Photo Studio. this 10,000 sqft space, in the heart of Pioneer Square, once inhabited the former home of Elliott Bay Book Co, pre-fire home of Doc Maynard, Seattle's first hospital & library. The 16-foot brick arches lead from 1st Ave to Nord Alley and add the best kind of character to this already beautiful space.

A wonderful venue. I've photographed weddings, parties, corporate gatherings and non-profit events here (anything from 50-200 people). No matter the need, it's open, big, but also intimate and easy to use. I love the space and the way that the two rooms feel connected, but also provide various areas to gather. Plus, you can't go wrong with the classic look of the bricks. And of course, the location is great for extra photo opportunities!

AXIS Pioneer Square is hands down the best venue in the Greater Seattle Area! My husband and I had our July 2022 wedding at AXIS and it was simply the best decision we could have ever made. After we toured the venue, which was the first venue we toured, we knew immediately that AXIS was the place for us. The unique thing about this venue is not only its beautiful brick walls, large archways, and industrial-modern vibes - its the amazing people that work at the venue including Erin, Melissa, and Jamie. These three people are the heart and soul of this gorgeous, historical venue and they will go above and beyond to ensure you have the best experience possible on your event day. Over the course of our wedding planning process, we worked with Melissa and Erin who provided countless recommendations, offered brilliant ideas on how to best utilize the space, and were always so genuinely invested in us. They brought so much energy and enthusiasm to the planning process, and we really got to know them through regular email communications, monthly art walks, open houses, and walkthroughs with our vendors. Simply put, they are professionals and won’t let you down. On the actual day of our wedding, Jamie was our Venue Manager and she facilitated set-up at the venue and was so attentive to our needs. She truly makes sure your day is special. In terms of the venue, it requires minimal design and decor as it’s already so breathtaking! Therefore, anything you bring in only elevates the space to a whole new level. AXIS also has partnerships with local caterers, florists, rental companies, lighting specialists, planners, etc. which provides for an easy selection of the best vendors to accompany your venue rental. We also had the option to rent out the alley behind the venue, which we did, and it provided the perfect environment for our friends and family to enjoy cocktails, chat, and catch a breath of fresh air after dancing the night away. Ultimately, AXIS and its staff are the best in the industry. We may have started off as strangers, but AXIS soon became part of our family! We highly recommend AXIS for your wedding or event, you truly won’t be disappointed!

Google
A beautiful art gallery in Pioneer Square. From what I've seen I think this might be the biggest space in the area. Tons of beautiful art, and they put on a nice presentation for the art walks with refreshments and performances. Highly recommended!

We had our wedding at Axis and had an amazing experience working with their staff! Erin is absolutely wonderful. We booked way ahead of time, and Erin remained diligent in responding to all of our questions throughout the entire process. We felt like she really cared and took the time to make our day special. After our initial meeting, we ran into her at the Seattle Bridal Show and she recognized us immediately and came over to chat and ask us how we were. We thought that was really nice considering she had only met us in person once. Our guests loved the venue, everyone commented on how cozy and warm it felt. The brick walls, arches, antique floors, and the up-lighting are gorgeous. We felt like we really didn't even need to decorate. I also loved that we could nail things directly into the wall. I did several DIY pieces, so that was really helpful! Right before our wedding they opened the second venue space. In case you are worried about noise, don't be. We didn't even notice that there was another event going on. We also had an eight piece jazz band, and to my knowledge no one complained about noise! [All photos credit Tonie Christine Photography]

Google
Great venue, especially for ones who are looking for a historical Seattle feel. At the Google Local event that I attended, they had two main gathering halls and a loft, perfect for any type of medium-sized event. The location was extremely convenient for those local commuters as well - just a short 6 minute walk from the Pioneer Station Link Light Rail.

I performed music for a wedding at this beautiful venue and loved the architecture and vibe of this event space. Great exposed bricks, vintage hardware and beautiful artwork on the wall. It's also very spacious but feels inviting! My name is Brian James and I was here. Brianjameswashere.com

Really nice venue for different occasions. I went to the Google Local Guide event. I want to personally thank Google for the beautifully organized event, from valet parking, amazing food and atmosphere. Venue was perfect size, clean and well-maintained.

Yelp
Made the Axis the venue for our daughter's wedding. The space worked very well for our 130 guests. Reception area, Ceremony, dinner, dancing. This area of Seattle has been cleaned up ( thanks to the new mayor) but still not like a winery wedding. Some homeless yelling at people walking past. The ally was rented but not used. The lighting and tables were not inviting out there. All in all, a good setting for our family to celebrate!

Yelp
We had our wedding for ~150 people at AXIS in August of 2023 and had a wonderful experience with the venue and with the team. The venue is beautiful with it's old-industrial vibes, constantly changing art, and cool architectural features (built in bar!). The venue is located in an easy-to-reach part of Seattle with a lot to see and do for those traveling from outside the city. There are great afterparty bars nearby (I recommend Underbelly). And the team was a joy to work with throughout the whole process. I highly recommend them for your wedding or event.

Yelp
It is a nice place to have a wedding. Because of the derelicts around the area, it is kind of rough to tell people to walk there!

Yelp
This event space is amazing! We just had our sons wedding here last weekend and it was so wonderful in every way. It is such a unique and special space, they were so helpful and fantastic. Book your next event here, you will be so happy you did!!

Yelp
What a lovely place for our wedding! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The guests all commented on the lovely space and how everything looked and felt. A big thing I wanted for our wedding was a place to have real candles, and we had about a million and it was gorgeous! Loved it! Perfect.

Yelp
Nice multi use center. It is an art studio that can host small events. I spoke at an event here. They have a small stage and space for around 50 people in the main room. It is located downtown Seattle. It seems like a nice neighborhood.

Yelp
We were so happy we chose AXIS as our wedding venue! It's a gorgeous space with plenty of room to spread out and use different parts of the space for the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner and dancing. The brick is gorgeous and the AXIS team is really flexible when it comes to decor - minimal restrictions compared to a lot of venues! Melissa and Erin are also so lovely to work with. They're super friendly, responsive to questions, and easy to communicate with. No complaints about AXIS and would definitely recommend it to others!

Yelp
I coordinated a non-profit fundraiser at AXIS on September 19 and it was perfect. Working with Melissa and Erin was incredibly easy: they were both very responsive and helped with troubleshooting any challenge I was facing leading up to the event as well as letting me change my final number a few times and ensuring that I had the proper rentals to correspond to those changes. They let me hold numerous walkthrough meetings with different stakeholders to ensure that everyone felt comfortable with the venue and the flow of the event. They spent a couple of hours the day of the event working to ensure that our AV connection worked and looked/sounded amazing while also answering the many questions I had regarding furniture movement, wifi access, etc. We used Duo's Catering and Melissa and Erin had a great relationship with our lead catering contact, so I felt extremely comfortable that they would work together well no matter what challenges might arise. Overall, this was a fantastic experience.....so much so that I booked my wedding reception there for next year! Can't wait to work with them again!

Yelp
We can't say enough wonderful things about Erin, Melissa, and the people at AXIS Pioneer Square. They came highly recommended (from another venue, no less!) and it was easy to see why. The venue itself is gorgeous - exposed brick, tall arches, and antique floors. We loved that it the history of the building (it was previously a hospital and the old Elliott Bay bookstore), and the space was perfect for both ceremony and reception. Erin and Melissa responded promptly to all of our inquiries. More importantly, they were gracious, thoughtful, and incredibly accommodating to help work around my crazy work schedule. From the beginning, we felt like they really cared about helping us throw our perfect wedding. Unfortunately we had to change our wedding plans due to COVID, and Erin and Melissa truly went way above and beyond to try to help us come up with special ways to celebrate despite this. They came up with creative ways for us to use the space, take wedding photographs, and create some unique memories. We were so touched by how much they truly cared and wanted to help us make our wedding day special. Even though we weren't able to ultimately have our wedding at Axis, there is no doubt that we'd choose them again as our venue in a heartbeat!

Yelp
While doing research online for local event spaces I came across Axis. Realizing it was the old Elliot Bay Bookstore location, I was already intrigued. I contacted the business owners via their website and they were fast to respond via email. We agreed on a meet up date to take a walk-through tour and when I showed up they greeted me warmly at the door. During our tour I learned so much more about the history of the space and just fell absolutely in love. Formerly the home of a hospital (even before it was Elliot Bay Books), they've taken great care to make sure that features like the original brick walls and the arches in the ceiling are exposed. They also pay homage to the history of the space with simple and elegant decorations along the walls and up the length of the tall (20 ft?) ceilings. Large enough for a few hundred people, I was more blown away when I learned about the access to closing off the alley out back. Adding hundreds more in square footage, the alley is picturesque, it screams of Seattle, and there are romantic lights strung up to allow for lighting when entertaining out back. And not only is this space used for art shows, it's also used as a photo studio. It's perfect for a variety of events because of how clean and modern the layout is. There's even a lofted area upstairs that can work as a VIP section for large events, or as a changing area for weddings. I hope to not just plan and execute a lovely holiday work event here, but to also attend many other events here. In fact, I fully intend to come to Pioneer Square's famous Art Walks more often because Axis participates and displays local art. So I'll be here as soon as the first Thursday of next month!

Yelp
We ended up not choosing AXIS for our wedding, just because it was a tad out of budget. However, I wanted to give a 5-star review for Erin's wonderful customer service. Wedding planning during Covid has been super frustrating and AXIS was the first venue we were able to tour in person. Erin made it such a positive experience. She was super helpful, warm, informative, and sure to be Covid-safe! She threw out a ton of creative ideas about how we could use the space that wouldn't have crossed our minds otherwise. She was incredibly communicative via email both before and after our tour, and never pushy. Erin is a true professional! The space at AXIS is also absolutely gorgeous and anyone who is able to hold their wedding there is truly lucky. Even though it didn't work out for us, I would highly recommend looking into AXIS for your event.

B N.

Yelp
The venue was gorgeous. Axis was one of the first vendors we secured and it helped create the perfect back drop for our wedding. Erin and her team accommodated multiple visits and were very flexible considering we were coming in from out of town. The place was clean and ready for our vendors right on time. Thank you Axis! I would highly recommend hosting your next event here.

Yelp
We got married at Axis in May 2019 and had an incredible experience. The staff, Melissa and Erin, were super attentive and very helpful in navigating everything. We booked the Ridiculous Package which included full photography, a photo booth and our tables/chairs. It made planning very easy. The space is absolutely beautiful on its own and doesn't require expensive decorations. We loved the exposed brick and hard wood floors. We also rented out the alley behind Axis for the evening and got amazing photos! We hired Melissa Juergens to be our day-of coordinator. I cannot day enough wonderful things about Melissa. She thought through every detail, was extremely organized and took all the heavy lifting off our plates. She learned all of our family members' names and was extremely fun/professional. We were able to relax and enjoy our big day knowing Melissa was taking care of things.

Jillian B.

Yelp
We ultimately chose not to go with Axis for our wedding, as we could not make it work with any of their caterers (one of the "affordable" options gave me a 14k estimate and I almost shit). But I do want to say that Melissa went above and beyond to try to work with us. She was very gracious and understanding, and I couldn't recommend someone more highly.

Chelsea Laine H.

Yelp
Came here for a Yelp event and it was a Super cute event space in Pioneer Square. The exposed brick is gorgeous and the antique touches make it special (globes, old books etc). Everyone working the event was nice and friendly and helped explain everything that was happening! I haven't seen a wedding done here but I imagine its stunning. Good for corporate events too. It seems like it can really be made to customize any style you are going for.

Elisabeth K.

Yelp
I recently coordinated a wedding at AXIS and found the team to be professional, reliable, and all around solid. Melissa did a great job of finalizing details up to the wedding day while Jamie was a terrific day-of support throughout the actual event. I really enjoyed working with their team and hope to again soon!

Kirstie C.

Yelp
Love the open space, brick walls, high ceilings, and globes/encyclopedias used as decoration in this place. Definitely would recommend it for people looking to host mingle type of events!

Annadean F.

Yelp
We recently held a company event at AXIS Pioneer, I was impressed with the help from AXIS Pioneer, Melissa was amazing to work with. She took direction really well and she did her best to fulfill my needs. On the day of the event Jamie was such amazing help! I would highly recommend holding an event at AXIS Pioneer.

Rachel H.

Yelp
I don't even know where to begin this review because every time I start thinking about our wedding at AXIS, I get starry eyed. Everything was perfect and so much of it was the result of the amazing team at AXIS. We knew we wanted to book AXIS from the very beginning (which we did, before even getting engaged). When we went to tour the venue, the deal was sealed when my husband (then boyfriend) walked out of the bathroom and exclaimed, "Even the bathrooms are cool!" Melissa and Erin were a delight to work with and made the entire process stress free and seamless. Our venue coordinator they day of (I was too distracted to remember her name- sorry!) was so helpful and made sure everything went off without a hitch. We went with the Ridiculous Package, which includes photography from Urban Light Studios, and it was a great value compared to other places we looked. I couldn't be more thrilled with the AXIS team and space.

Diana M.

Yelp
It was amazing! Our daughter and new son-in-law held their reception at Axis. The venue is really stunning and the team really worked hard to make the day perfect. Even without decorations the place exudes warmth. It's not just the old brick walls and big random plank floors, but the extra touches like the bride's balcony and the globe wall make it one of a kind. We were able to customize the spaces to create an intimate seating for 120 and a large dance floor and bar area for before and after fun. The beautifully lit alley way in back adds an indoor/outdoor feel. Thanks to Erin and Melissa for making the day perfect and above all easy. It really is a special place.

Samantha L.

Yelp
AXIS is honestly a beautiful location for any large event, gathering, or cocktail party. I adored the exposed brick walls, the arched doorways, the tall ceilings, the modern and minimalist bar area, not to mention the floor to sky-high ceiling windows. It is in a really nice, industrial-area part of town, which lend itself to the space as well. I attended a Yelp Event here earlier this year, and if I have an event to host, AXIS will definitely be at the top of my list.

Tanya D.

Yelp
What a great space! I was here for a Yelp Elite event, and this was just the right size and atmosphere. Axis has a great location in the beautiful part of SODO =P Axis has a large entrance area, small upstairs area, and an even larger back area. This would be a great spot to set up catering, dancing, or anything else.

Kendra H.

Yelp
This is a very nice event space. We had a private party here (300 capacity) and the space was lovely with no added decor. I believe we provided catering and bar staff, but everything went off without a hitch. There were three bars set up, one in the main area, one upstairs and one in the back. For a party of this size, it might be a good idea to have a second ladies restroom, but that's not a huge problem. Conveniently located and well set up for most parties, I'd say.

Allison P.

Yelp
This is a beautiful event space! Loved the exposed brick walls, high ceilings, arched walk ways, wood floors and how open the area was! Also can use the alley! You could have a very large party/event/wedding here! Gorgeous antique decorations/books through out the space including awesome mirrors in the bathroom. The bar was nice and added to the space while being large it fit perfectly with the brick and antiques. Has a balcony area which was perfect for a dj. As a guest to an event here I was in awe and loved the space. Talked to a lady who worked there, she was super nice and loved to talk about the history of the place!

Chelsea K.

Yelp
We were searching for a wedding venue that would reflect our artistic backgrounds, so AXIS Pioneer Square was the perfect match for us! I had walked under the tall ceilings and beautiful brick arches of this space on numerous occasions while exploring the First Thursday art walks, so when I found out that it was a wedding venue as well as an art gallery, I knew it was the one. The location in the historic heart of Seattle would be the ideal place to gather our families visiting from California and Ohio to give them an authentic experience of the city where we fell in love. Melissa and Erin were wonderful! They encouraged us to embrace the versatility of the venue and helped us envision the possibilities for customizing the layout to make our event express our creative personal styles. I planned to hang up my own paintings as well as paintings from the artists on both sides of our families. They were flexible and open-minded when helping us brainstorm locations that would work for installing a tension spinning pole so that we could make our first dance performance memorable. As an electronic musician, John loved that music didn't have to stop until 2am and we could wrap up the night with an amazing dance party! Having access to the quaint alley abutting the venue as an outdoor space for guests to take in the night air when they needed a break from the dance floor was also a great perk. We both have large families that love to celebrate, so the venue's capacity was a key selling point, and so was the ability to purchase our own alcohol to supply for the event! If you're looking for an iconic wedding venue with a professional team and an artistic flair, I highly recommend AXIS!

Jen O.

Yelp
Love Erin and the gang at AXIS! I planned a 250+ party here in August and it was fantastic. Guests enjoyed the brick architecture, high ceilings and unique location (who knew there was a large event space in Pioneer Square!). We hired Gourmondo to cater and their food was delicious. We also worked with Blue Danube to provide a screen, projector, mic and speakers. This space works great for a wedding, cocktail reception or sit down dinner. We set-up 200+ chairs theater style for half of our event, and had the other half set-up for a cocktail reception. I'll be honest, it was a little tight, so I would recommend using the entire space for one thing or the other (theater style vs. cocktail reception), and double checking your numbers. I would definitely recommend this venue and can't wait to go back soon! Jen Owens

Yelp
Beautiful event space! We had reserved the Cellar (another one of Kevin's spaces), but due to some unexpected construction he kindly offered up AXIS Pioneer Square instead. It was a great space and Kevin and his team were wonderful to work with. My favorite part of the space is it's very customizable/modular. We were able to make a cozy little nook for our meeting of 12 people even though the space could easily hold hundreds. The space has a lot of charm with wood floors and accents, brick arches and a beautiful chandelier at the entrance.

Patty L.

Yelp
My daughter and fiancé (A+S) wanted a special Seattle space in which to hold their wedding and reception. When they found AXIS, we all fell in love with the size and versatility of the space, the exposed brick and wonderful floors, the art and the amenities. The location is stellar and makes for many memorable and walkable side trips and photography sites. Most of all, we all fell in love with the wonderful people who make AXIS run so well. Erin, Melissa and event rep Jamie were professional, helpful, thoughtful and caught our sense of humor and immediately understood the vibe A+S wanted. Their combined experience and the package they put together ensured that not one single thing went wrong on the day. I really wish I could work with them more often. The wedding packages at AXIS are thoughtfully set up and allow for lots of creative add ins - the Ridiculous Package is ridiculously easy and made our planning a snap. The package includes the services of a day of wedding site coordinator. Ours was Maddie Dubray, who met with us and was very clear about how she thought we should proceed, which was more than helpful at that point when we were all feeling just a tad frantic. She was responsive and easy to work with. Maddie ran the rehearsal and wedding with tact, confidence, calm and expertise. We all loved working with her. I can't wait to go to the next events at AXIS - maybe I'll be lucky enough to be a guest at another wedding there.

Becca R.

Yelp
I stumbled upon Axis while I was in search of a wedding venue. It was the first venue we saw and we were 100% sold. We had out reception in September and it was an absolute dream. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the Axis team and and about this space. All of our guests were blown away with this unique and gorgeous space. I hope to come to many more events at Axis and I will be eternally grateful to Erin and her team for creating our dream wedding!!

Amber R.

Yelp
cute space, terrible staff, completely unprofessional. I scheduled an appointment to view the space for my own wedding, and when I got there, I was ignored and it took me forever to find the woman I was supposed to meet with. When I finally found her, she first looked at me like she had no idea we had an appointment and said, "oh... are you here for a tour??" and then she asked me to wait and just started talking to other people for quite some time. As amazing as the space is, I would not trust them with my event. They are rude, they don't care about their customers and again, completely unprofessional.

Pat D.

Yelp
This is a flexible, and beautiful, venue - well situated, with a great mixture of classic brick and contemporary touches. What sets this venue apart is the level of service they provide. Our company has used them for large group meetings, as well as company events & parties, and every member of the staff is extremely customer focused. They are flexible, creative, and willing to pitch in with vendor referrals and management. Melissa and the staff go above and beyond to ensure our events are glitch-free and enjoyable for everyone. We love working with them and will continue to do so. Have an event at Axis and you will be glad you did.

ISAAC J.

Yelp
Nice place to hold an event. Very spacious and can hold a lot of people. Looks like they do weddings to company functions at this place. A cool place to hangout with the Seattle crowd.

Crystal D.

Yelp
An abundance of room with a few modern accents and old world charm, this venue is surprisingly large! The layout is perfect for events and weddings. The mirrors in the bathroom were so cool that for the first time, I took a mirror selfie and I swore to never in my lifetime do that! The loft above is great for a DJ or band. I can imagine that having a large wedding here would be very fun. I really enjoyed the event that I attended here and hope to come back soon!

Bob H.

Yelp
WOW! For all you couples wanting to get married in Seattle, this GEM located in the heart of Pioneer Square boasting wall to wall brick arches, lofted bridal room, string lit brick alley way and a "book company" bar is a dream come true! Owners of Urban Light Studios team up with Shooby Doo Catering to create what might be this years best new venue in Seattle. You wont be disappointed!

Jennifer H.

Yelp
A year and a half ago, I was tasked with finding a venue for our company's All Hands Meetings. We had outgrown our in house space, and needed a place where we could hold our quarterly meetings that was also walking distance from our building. I looked at several locations in the area and then discovered Axis. I made an appointment with Erin to tour the space, and was instantly impressed with her level of professionalism and how informative she was. The venue is gorgeous, very well appointed, and is easily transformed to suit your vision. We have not only held several of our All Hands Meetings here, but we've also hosted a company Art Show and a product launch party. Erin and Melissa go out of their way each time, to make sure all of our needs are met and that our events are seamless. We have developed a wonderful rapport with these ladies and continually look for opportunities to host company events and highly recommend the space.

Jay V.

Yelp
Our daughter's wedding and reception was at Axis and what a perfect place. The staff was so great to work with, the space was gorgeous. The brick and high ceilings made for great ambiance. We hardly had to decorate. Plenty of room for ceremony and reception, with the great bar and fun dance floor. The upstairs room was perfect for the bride and bridesmaids to hangout before the ceremony and seeing our daughter enter by walking down the staircase was a special touch. It was such a fun night.
